The Challenges of Introducing New Technology
Comment lines: The challenges of introducing new technology
Skill Level: Introductory Andre Tost (andretost@us.ibm.com) Senior Technical Staff Member IBM
06 Oct 2010 Technologies that are new to an organization present a number of issues simply because
they are new. Such issues are rarely addressed properly or sufficiently, if at all. The lack of a formal
process for introducing new technology into an IT environment is one of the biggest challenges
faced by companies looking to leverage new products. Here is a look at how you can plan for
introducing new technologies –including new software, new systems, new versions of existing
software and systems, and more –– to ensure the proper technical teams and governance

these goals. A possible future trend that might lead to equally large numbers of new technologies
and products is the concept of cloud computing, just to name one last example. Another trigger for
new technology can come from the lines of business in an enterprise. New business requirements
might arise that result in the need for technology that an IT organization currently does not support.
Examples for the technologies that have to be introduced to the IT landscape in those cases are
portals, multi–channel architectures, or business rule systems.
A lifecycle for new technology
Despite the wide variety of new technologies (as defined above) and just as many possible triggers
for these technologies, you can still define a common lifecycle that all technologies share. The
lifecycle described in Table 1 is such an example; there are many variations but all would include
these same major aspects: Table 1. Sample technology lifecyle
Stage Introduced Description A technology or product is brought into an organization for the first
time. This is when various groups get to take a first look at the technology, often testing its use in
the form of a proof of concept. Initial planning has been conducted for the technology to go into
production in support of a business solution, which will act as a pilot. The planning

Communication in Global Business
Communication in Global Business. The use of computers and the Internet in workplaces are
becoming more pervasive and the functions performed using computers are dramatically increasing.
The influence of technology will go beyond new equipment and faster communications, as work and
skills will be redefined and reorganized. This will lead to paperless and people less offices.
Companies understand the need to respond and adapt to the evolving use of technology by their
customers, stakeholders and suppliers. Technology adoption typically occurs in an S–curve with
exponential growth of technology adoption from 'early adopters'. Not only is the diffusion of
individual technologies exponential, but the rate of diffusion is accelerating and with each new
technology release the 'early adopters' and 'early majority' move further to the left. It took more than
70 years for telephones to reach 50% household penetration, compared with 28 years for radio, and
10 for internet access. Following this trend, the rate of technology adoption should continue to
accelerate so that each new technology outpaces the adoption of its predecessor. This is going to
directly affect current type of office. The changing office is strongly influenced by the young new
workforce (Generation Y). Generation Y's expectations are being formed by the technologies they
surround themselves with. They adapt their lifestyles to each new technological invention and they
won't accept that the brands they interact

A Case Management System For Cultivated Vital Planning And...
Abstract
The business issue to be solved is how to better advance operational productivities, lower costs, and
increase insight into the interface of the document management system with a more technological
improved case management system for cultivated vital planning and performance controls.
Organizational Background
The organization that will be the topic of discussion in my final project paper is the Dallas County
Clerk Criminal Section and its current mainframe/document management systems. The county clerk
serves as the clerk of both the county court and the commissioners court ("District and County
Clerk", 2014, pg.1). It maintains the official records of the same courts, as well as receives monetary
assets in fines and fees ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I will be focusing on two of these systems, Mainframe and the DMS. The Mainframe system is an
antiquated system that can no longer support the current needs of the division. Mainframe has much
involved with its use, an aging workforce, and high mainframe costs, lack of innovation and
flexibility and technological security risks. As the society and current Texas standards require
electronic filing and business process via e–machines, kiosks and among other items. Not only is the
current two systems substantially ineffective operation of technology, the need of non–standardized
systems pounds the ability of management to access, manage and illustrate analytical data
components for strategic planning purposes and routine performance inspection.
High level Solution
In order to better effectively manage of converting dual case management systems and interfacing
the documents into the cases, I will propose that the Criminal Division purchase an existing criminal
justice case management system that will allow the interface of the currently used document
management system, On Base (Hyland Product). This will meet the broadest needs of all of our end
users and will streamline the IT functionalities of manipulating the antiquated mainframe system as
well as combine the current On

Error Handling Of An Activity Diagram
Abstract
This paper will give a closer look into error handling in an activity diagram as well as it will provide
an overview of other possible error–handling elements that are not in the activity diagram. I will
also provide a narrative, which describes the added error–handling pathways. This paper will also
include a description of the reasons checking for errors. Lastly, I will include and overview of other
possible errors.
Introduction

The importance of checking if the item is in a store because if the item is not in stock it cannot be
shipped out. Those ordering the item need to be able to plan how long it will take since the item go
to the back order status. There should be also an address check confirmation matched against the
USPS national address label database to make sure the address is correct before shipping items,
because if the items are shipped to the wrong address, then it will cost the company assets and time.
Main Reasons Why Checking for Errors is Important
The main reason of checking for errors in an activity diagram is to recognize any errors and to make
sure that the requirements are fully met. Another important motive checking for errors is to check
for error that might cause problems when there is an issue during a life cycle transaction. Having a
working method to check for errors could possibly prompt to massive cost savings as well as better
and efficient products. According to Cebollero, M., Natarajan, J., & Coles, M. (2015), checking for
errors in the system design will eventually protect both the business and the customer. It is also
important to have a cancellation error–handling message in place. Without including a cancellation
condition, it may lead to constant changes and will necessitate re–design of some mechanisms of
error handling considerations at a later point of time.

Business Process Description Is A Map
V. APPROACH TO BPMN Business process description is a map that helps us to navigate through
our business activities. Using a map for navigation is quite normal in many activities, e.g., it is a
must when we need to move something or be moved ourselves from one place to another. We have
different maps for navigating in the physical space, marine maps, road maps, hiking maps, etc. The
choice of a map depends on what we want to move, where and by what means. If we travel by car
we need a road map, if we travel on foot in a mountain area, we need a hiking map. What is more,
we may need several different types of maps, in case of emergency. For example, a simplified road
map that shows how to get from one point to another will not help if we make a wrong turn
somewhere on the way. We will need a detailed road map to get back to our initial course. Identify
applicable sponsor/s here. If no sponsors, delete this text box (sponsors). VI. APPROACH TO
CHOOSE BPMN If an organization is functionally structured and processes are not identified, it is
suitable to use input/output view (for example, IDEF0), or agent–related view (for example, RAD).
Input/output view suit mostly organizations that have formal ways of internal communications via
some objects, like documents, files, etc. Then the processes can be discovered by following the
movement of these objects inside the organization. Agent–related view suit mostly organizations
that strictly define responsibilities for each

Business Process Reengineering
Q. Describe each of the four kinds of organizational change that can be promoted with information
technology. What is business process reengineering? What steps are required to make it effective?
How does it differ from business process management? Explain with example.
In an organization, there are major risks and uncertainties in systems development that need to be
addressed by the management. Determining when new systems and business processes can have the
greatest impact is involved in these challenges. This may be the reasons why organizational change
and development is becoming a common scenario to talk about involving management,
organizations, business, and leadership. With the fast–changing environment, business conditions ...

Retailers and recording stars were rebelling––it took the company as much as 20 days to deliver a
big order for a hit CD, and then nearly 20% of the order would be missing. Small, incremental
improvements would not have been adequate, so the company reengineered its entire distribution
process with dramatic effects on on–time delivery and order fill rates. In business process
reengineering, the organization can develop the business vision and process objective. It can identify
the processes to be redesigned (core and highest payback) and understand and measure the
performance of existing processes. It can also identify the opportunities for applying information
technology and build a prototype of the new process.

(Carton, Frederic Adam, & David Sammon, 2008) In such scenario, the interdependency between
people, process and systems becomes very important and if the staff are not updating the system
effectively or retrieving data from one system and uploading it to the other systems is very much
reliant on the people, and the process if not adapted effectively could lead to so many confusions
with the data prevailing in the systems. Also when so many processes are people oriented rather than
process and system oriented, the chances of human errors are very high. (ICMR, 2002) People
oriented issues are pretty high in terms of using the different systems for various functions. Until the
people who are engaged in the job is committed and has structured coordination between them, it
might be very difficult for the organization to have a synchronized system. (ICMR, 2002) When we
look in to the process oriented issues, there are challenges like, the process of implementation has to
be very effective and if the companies do not have strong process or if the processes are not
implemented effectively, then it doubles the issues for the organization in having productive
outcome. (Lee & Jinyoul Lee, 2000) The other complex issue of using multiple systems is the data

The Internet Of Things And List Three Iot Devices
1. Knowledge: Explain the Internet of Things and list three IoT devices. Internet of Things (IoT) are
devices that can collect and share data with no human interactions. IoT are machines that connect to
other machines. Examples of IoT's are fitness trackers that report to a smart phone, smart vacuum
cleaners that are self– propelled, and Apps for your smart phone that can adjust lighting, temperature
or security features at your house when you are away. 2. Comprehension: Explain why it is
important for business managers to understand that data collection rates from loT devices is
increasing exponentially. As a business manager it is important to understand the growth of IoT's,
because utilizing an IoT in your business can provide you with information to carry what products
customers are looking to purchase. This would enable a manager to stay ahead of the competition
and make more sales, by only ordering what your customers are going to buy. The IoT could help a
manager make more successful business decisions. 3. Application: Demonstrate how data from an
IoT device can be transformed into information and business intelligence. The IoT's could help to
reduce waste, cost, and loss of profit, as you would be able to order only the amount required by
your customers. The IoT can assist a business to be better prepared for what their customers are
looking for or need. IoT can also help people track their health, which would allow for a longer

Southern Pulp & Paper
Southern Pulp and Paper
Introduction
In this work I am going to identify the Southern Pulp and Paper's Toccoa mill problems and issues
that are available to mill's manager Curtis Shelton.
Part 1 In considering the overall process on the pulp and bleached products industry it is always
good to start with the main performance objectives and measures. One of the first important issues is
the process design and layout. How the process architecture looks like and how well it is designed to
fulfill all the required operations would be the most important questions to be asked. As stated in the
case study the main problem of the mill appears to be the machines, number 5 and 6. They were in
use since 1967 and were quite old, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Part 2 In this part I am going to show some improvement techniques, which will help to solve the
problems faced by mill's manager. Firstly, in order to understand the entire process and find its
problems it is essential to map the process. Using the Flowcharting technique of process mapping
and exhibit #3 of the case study a basic scheme of the overall process should be built. Once the
process is sketched it is easier to understand what are the bottlenecks and in which way it could be
improved or even redesigned to fulfill the requirements of the system (Slack et al, 1998:701). After
having a good understanding of what processes are running in the mill it is then advised to focus on
each of them separately. Flow charts can be used for the entire overview of the process
improvement. They visually represent the process, identifying the problems and pointing on the
participants (material or information flow). The flowchart system can be very basic as well as
different approaches could be used such as Burlton's Transformation Model or Business Process
Modeling Notation (BPMN). BPMN was developed in two versions, a core notation set to use by
business people and an extended notation set for automation. It uses a particular symbol set
(Harmon, 2007:231). In order to identify the causes of breaks of the machines and to understand
how to solve them it's good to use Cause and Effect also called

Managing Service Delivery Individual Final Assessment Essay
Patrick John M. Tabay 19 June 2015
DHSM 303 Managing Service Delivery Individual Final Assessment
1. Service quality is a measurable set of standard established upon by a provider in delivering
services to a client/customer. It can also be viewed upon as a degree of both tangible and intangible
expectation coming from a customer's perspective on how these services are realized by the supplier
or by the product coming from the provider.
Dimensions of quality:
Performance – this is the primary operating characteristics of a product (David, 1987). A customer
usually looks for this particular quality in availing product or service. This quality dimension
involves elements which can be assessed, they can be ranked factually on separate aspect of
performance. A customers' decision making is usually influenced by this dimension of the product or
service.
Features – this dimension is auxiliary to the basic operating characteristic (David, 1987). Considered
as the "bells and whistles" of product and services it has distinct characteristic or aspect of a
merchandise or service. Feature is also a key factor in influencing the decision making process of a
would–be user.
Reliability – This dimension mirrors the likelihood of a product deteriorating or shortfalls in quality
(David, 1987). This is a very important dimension in the service because it determines the product
or service longevity in the industry one is competing for survival, if it possess this

1. What are the current challenges facing Bombardier?
They faced challenges from acquiring many companies because during the acquisitions Bombardier
inherited the data, processes and systems of each company which created inefficiencies. Systems
didn't communicate with each other resulting in low inventory turns and price inconsistency. This
was not productive for Bombardier and was time consuming for the employees. The biggest
problem was the low visibility of inventory and the lack of communication between systems.
Bombardier had now a global presence but was not organized to maintain growth without changing
the vision and processes. Another challenge is resistance to change, this factor can have a huge

The Complexity Of A Manufacturing Business
Part 1
Q: The video overview suggests the considerable complexity in PT Sails manufacturing. Do you
think the complexity of a manufacturing business is less for a small business than a large one?
Explain why or why not?
Answer: No, I do not think the complexity of a manufacturing business is less for a small business
than a large one. Because a large manufacturing business has a more standardized and formalized
rules, business process which can break down into many pieces. Large manufacturing businesses
can also become departmentalized which would make each work process more accurate and easier.
The most important reason is that a large manufacturing business could build and afford for a
relatively perfect information system compared to small manufacturing businesses. Information
system is a system which is composed of five components (hardware, software, data, process,
people) that interact to produce and interpret information (www.wikipedia.com). From the video, we
can see that Port Townsend does not have a formal and complete information system rather than just
saving customer and product information in paper documents. Actually, it is usually very expensive
for a small business to build a complete information system so that some small business even do not
have an information system (Cost Benefit Analysis of Information System, PG Sassonell, 1988). But

Business Model : An Organization
Business Model

A business model explains the basis of how an association creates, distributes, as well as captures
financial, communal, along with other shapes of importances. And also a business model is too
implicit as a holistic way towards illumination how firms accomplish commerce .The business
model theory is becoming more and more popular inside IS, supervision and plan literature. It is
applied within a lot of fields of investigate, including equally traditional plan theory as well as in the
developing organization of theory on e–business.
On the other hand, the idea is often used separately from hypothesis; meaning model constituents as

replacing old industry practices, original business models too permit firms to redistribute their

A Survey on Transformation of BPMN to BPEL Essay
III. LITERATURE SURVEY Many researchers have studied the transformation between BPMN and
BPEL. Most of the research conducted in this field is analytical in nature. Only few insights exist
into the practical use of BPMN. Most notably is the work of Ouyang et al. [10, 11] and [12], who
propose that BPMN to BPEL transformation be accomplished by multiple phase matching of pattern
and graph transformation. An algorithm for generating readable BPEL code from BPMN model is
presented in [10] which generates BPEL code from BPMN model by discovering structural patterns
in the BPMN models which in turn are mapped into BPEL structured activities. The original BPD is
decomposed into well structured components having one entry and one exit point. ... Show more

Event handler is enabled while the scope is under execution and thus the corresponding translation
is based upon the event action rule. The Standard Process Model (SPM) is decomposed into a
collection of event action rules that trigger one another to encode the underlying control flow logic.
The fundamental idea is to define precondition set (i.e., encapsulating all the possible ways of
reaching an activity) for all the activities in SPM. Each precondition set is associated with an
activity and defines the possible way of enabling the activity. Afterwards, all the precondition set
with their associated activities are transformed into event–action rule which in turn translates into
BPEL event handlers. However, this approach only holds for one specific process model type by
applying structural restriction on BPDs. Eventually, the resulting BPEL code is not readable and
thus difficult to modify and maintain. Since, a well–structured pattern impose restriction on BPDs,
therefore, Ouyang et al.[12] also present another approach that not only maps block–structure in
BPMN model but also accounts for quasi–structure and flow based acyclic fragment into block
structure BPEL. Quasi–structure patterns are those patterns which can exhibit well–structuredness
e.g. splitting a gateway into two gateways without changing semantics to separate the incompatible
parts. Three types of

Application Of A Business Process Modeling
Abstract– BPM is typically performed by business analysts, who provide expertise in the modeling
discipline. Every business requires some form of investment and enough customers to whom its
output can be sold on a consistent basis in order to make a profit. A series of action or steps to be
taken in order to achieve a particular end. Business process modeling enables a common
understanding and analysis of a business process. A process model can provide a comprehensive
understanding of a process. An enterprise can be analyzed and integrated through its business
processes. Hence the importance of correctly modeling its business processes. Business analysts can
use IBM Blueworks Live to denote milestones at various points in the process life cycle, including
the point at which the process is ready to be implemented in IBM BPM. IBM Blueworks Live is a
cloud–based business process modeler, belonging under the set of IBM SmartCloud applications.
The application is designed to help organizations discover and document their business process,
business decisions and policies in a collaborative manner.

Research/Reflections on Success and Failure in IM leadership/management
Why Business Analyst, why not continue as a software developer? Having worked as an application
developer and environment support for an IT project, I had designed and developed applications as
per the business requirements. However, I was always intrigued about why the business wants to
change that functionality. As a developer, I never knew the answer to that question. I wanted a role
that would bring me closer to the business aspect of a project. A role where I could apply my
analytical and problem solving skills. A role where I could improve he performance of a business.
The role of business analyst certainly fits that criteria.
One of the famous business analysts is Tim Coventry who has written articles like "Why Good

personnel. It is open seven days a week from seven in the morning until eleven in the evening. Each
eight hour shift has a doctor, two RNs, an X–ray technician, a medical technician, a pharmacist, a
receptionist and auxiliary personnel. It offers X–ray, laboratory, pharmaceutical, first aid services. It
also offers follow up check–ups for post– operative clients. Since the clinic is located in a low socio
economic status area, services are kept in an affordable level. The staffs have been catering a lot of
patients every day and due to the shortage of manpower, staffs are overloaded with workload putting
service quality in jeopardy. There were also complaints from the patients such as long waiting time
and results for the laboratories are delayed. There are also problem in the supply room wherein
stocks are not monitored regularly. Based on the stock inventory conducted, a lot of expired and
near expiry stocks have been found. Thus, this report has been made to address these issues and
hopefully resolve them. According to Ghobadian, Speller, & Jones, (1994) the service quality plays

Abstract
Supply Chain Management is becoming more and more important for the success of today's
business world. Dell has realized this trend from its very first steps and has become one of the most
successful PC companies in the world by putting emphasis on its supply chain, orchestrating its
build–to–order and direct sales strategies. While most of the literature that covers Dell's business

Leadership:
Leadership is defined as senior executives who support the creation of processes (Hammer, 2007).
There are four aspects in leadership including awareness, alignment, behavior, and style. According
to Hammer's PEMM and the analysis of evidence in this case, four perspectives including
awareness, alignment, behavior, and style are scored from E–1 to E–4.
Awareness:
Leadership awareness is defined as the recognition of business process and understanding the value
of the process–oriented enterprise for senior management. Bharat Dave, who is vice president of
industry sales in Siemens ROLM Communication Incorporation, recognizes that they need a

These leadership behaviors from senior management primarily assure that the project can achieve a
high performance to improve profitability and market share.
According to Hammer's PEMM and case evidence above, leadership behavior is at the E–3 level
where "senior executives operate as a team, manage the enterprise through its processes, and are
actively engaged in the process program". In conclusion, senior management attaches great
importance on this reengineering project.
Style:
Leadership style is a style for leader or senior management. This case does not provide much
evident of leadership style for the project at ROLM Communication incorporation. In fact, senior
management makes an open and free environment for communication in company, such as making
frequent presentations to various audiences including training classes and meetings (P11). In
addition, small group interactions also impact employees' efforts for enterprise innovation (P11).
Geng said "middle management does a lot of filtering that can only be remedied via more
communication" (P12).
According to Hammer's PEMM and case evidence above, leadership style is at the E–2 level where
"the senior executive team leading the process program is passionate about the need to change and
about process as the key tool for change". In conclusion, the senior management provides a good
communication to make more employees

The Six Benchmarking Steps You Need
The Six Benchmarking Steps You Need
Everyone talks about benchmarking, but few know what to do. Learn the six steps in most any
benchmarking initiative, from building support, to designing and improving a plan.
Benchmarking, step–by–step:
• Introduction
• Step One: Select the process and build support
• Step Two: Determine current performance
• Step Three: Determine where performance should be
• Step Four: Determine the performance gap
• Step Five: Design an action plan
• Step Six and Beyond: Continuously improve The new economy represents a transformed business

In this initial step, it is important to gain commitment from management, process owners and staff to
participate eagerly on the benchmarking project, and then to develop an action plan to focus efforts
and keep information organized.
Step Two: Determine current performance In the next step, it is crucial to determine the state of the
current business environment. Too often, companies embark upon benchmarking efforts because
they want to achieve the well–known results of such companies as Motorola or General Electric.
This is misguided because benchmarking is company– and issue–specific. Without a clear
understanding of the business environment and the impact of specific business processes on overall
business performance, benchmarking will fail to yield meaningful results. Before benchmarking
your company against another to discover how they achieve high levels of business performance,
you must understand your own performance. An initial self–assessment should include questions to
determine if the process has been flowcharted; if the process owners have been correctly identified;
where key handoffs exist within and outside of the process; if automated and manual activities have
been identified; and finally, if redundancies or inefficiencies have been targeted. We have found that
an exercise called process mapping will

Digital Transformation Of Legal Services
Digital transformation and the provision of legal services: what legal practice managers need to
know and do Digital transformation is changing the way that businesses operate across a range of
industries, and the legal industry is no exception. We would all agree that digital transformation is a
current hot topic, both locally and globally, but do you know that digital transformation as a concept
is still misunderstood by many? What exactly is "digital transformation"? Let us start with a simple
question, a definition. What is "digital transformation"? At its most basic level, or at its very core,
digital transformation is the use of technology to radically improve the performance of an
organisation, and this includes its people. Businesses, including us in the practice and business of
law, often think of digital transformation as a formal effort to revamp our vision, models and
investments in order to achieve our organisational goals and objectives, and importantly, stay
competitive in the modern digital economy and evolving legal landscape. Digital transformation in
the professional services industry In the professional services space, digital transformation is very
much about realigning technology and business models to more effectively engage with our clients
and more efficiently deliver our services to them. As legal practitioners, we would look at every
touch point in the client experience lifecycle as well as the matter/transaction lifecycle to identify

other people around them and are ultimately aware of their strengths and shortcomings (cite).
Innovation at Amazon Incorporated in 1994 (cite), the admiration that comes from Amazon's
relentless focus on good execution and leadership principles is what makes Amazon such a
successful business. The premise that everyone at Amazon is a "leader" is the foundation of the
leadership approach used in this company. They start with the customer comes first and then work
backwards. Their vigorous strategy is to earn and keep the trust of their customers. Although
attention is high in the area of competition, they fixate over their customers.

Application For Successful Electronic Health Records
Reflection Paper
Introduction
As per Fenton, Giannangelo, & Stanfill (2006), Workflow, project management, personnel, training,
support, communication, motivation, vision, leadership and evaluation, are essential considerations
for successful electronic health records (EHR) implementations. HI 5329 Assessment and
Evaluation course utilized a team work practical approach that covers explicitly or implicitly the
majority of those considerations. The first six modules within this course focused mainly on
business processes and workflow modeling as described in 'Workflow Modeling' textbook (Sharp &
McDermott, 2009), hence this is the first topic discussed in this paper. Additional skills developed
during this course include communication and presentation skills, which is discussed here as the
second topic. Lastly, the third topic is the economic aspects of evaluation as explained in the
'Evaluation Methods in Biomedical Informatics' textbook (Friedman & Wyatt, 2005). Although this
topic was not covered within the course and the practical assignments, it grabs my interest as it
discusses a critical real–world issue.
Topic 1: Processes and Workflow Modeling
In the introduction section of each module, a statement emphasizing the importance of processes
and workflow modeling knowledge for healthcare informaticians was declared, as such knowledge
and skills are required to ensure high–quality performance. As per Sharp and McDermott (2009),
'Workflow Modeling' is to clearly illustrate

To make matters even more confusing, there are those within the Business Analyst community who
have begun to distinguish between business analysts who focus on defining software requirements
and those business analysts who are focused on improving business processes. SAP, for example,
has set up a website1 for Business Process eXperts (BPXs), a group of analysts with more extensive
business process capabilities.
This vagueness between BA and BPM roles creates confusion in practice and academia, which
impacts on role designs, skills assessment, human resource development, recruitment and
professional development. The impact of such was made clear at a Leonardo Process Days 2010
conference panel where BA and BPM role differentiation was reviewed. An outcome of this
discussion was a consensus that i) Practitioners struggle to recognise and articulate the skills
required (BA, BPM or both?) for various organisational initiatives and how to locate appropriate
talent to fill these roles ii)
Academics fail to position BA and BPM as separate professions and often bundle them as the same
in their course descriptions and marketing iii) Students and prospective candidates for employment
vacancies therefore remain confused about the specific skill sets required of a BPM professional a

Resources like manpower, supply chains, and information are all considered inputs. Output is
finished product, whether it is in manufacturing or some other means. Each business should
ultimately "do" something, but this might not be tangible. An effect could be the result of output.
The effect of this process may have demonstrable impact on other business divisions, these
relationships should be displayed. 3.0 Business process mapping tools The tools used to produce
these models are varied. Some of the tools out there have trial software that can be used to get a feel
for the product. Questetra BPM Suite, for example, is free for ten concurrent processes or less. This
means that you can chart out a small sample office and see how it works. A more mature application
can be more expensive. It depends upon how integrated the software needs to be. The scope of the
project will help determine what the budget on tools should be. Businesses that found strategic
alignment around a mission to be useful to the company may be more willing to invest in really
good business process management software. A complete understanding of the business will

includes the people and attitudes toward business held by that individual.
This information is easier to digest than the concept of EA components. However, the concepts are
still important to the process and the chapter provides models for organizations as well as roles

Difference Between Internal And External Crowdsourcing
According to several scholars (including Villarroel and Reis, 2010; Boudreau and Lakhani, 2013;
Carlson and Wilmot, 2006; Chesbrough, 2006a, 2006b; Byren, 2013; Yap, 2012; Howe, 2006, 2009;
Brabham, 2008b, 2009, 2013), the main difference between internal and external crowdsourcing can
be summarized as follows: i) the internal crowd (employees) is known to the firm; ii) the crowd can
be all employees of the firm, a subsidiary of the firm, or may also include partners and suppliers; iii)
the crowd is specifically used for problem solving or aggregating ideas for innovation purposes; and
iv) the crowd may also be anyone with internet or mobile remote access capable of participating in a
crowdsourcing contest and vote on the ideas of others.
Internal crowdsourcing is easier to implement in companies where social media acceptance is high
(Yap, 2012); crowdsourcing attempts within companies don't measure up to the external crowd
(Boudreau and Lakhani, 2013). Crowdsourcing forms such as idea marketplaces and idea jams lack
the capabilities and fall short to the external crowd 's full capacity. Boudreau and Lakhani (2013)
believes employees are discouraged from seeking challenges; Yap (2012) says that internal
crowdsourcing unveil innovations from employees which otherwise would not be captured. Carlson
and Wilmot (2006) emphasizes that every employee does in fact has the ability to innovate, and
must do so for their company to stay competitive. The desire for deeper exploration of

The Challenges Of Introducing New Technology

  • 1. The Challenges of Introducing New Technology Comment lines: The challenges of introducing new technology Skill Level: Introductory Andre Tost (andretost@us.ibm.com) Senior Technical Staff Member IBM 06 Oct 2010 Technologies that are new to an organization present a number of issues simply because they are new. Such issues are rarely addressed properly or sufficiently, if at all. The lack of a formal process for introducing new technology into an IT environment is one of the biggest challenges faced by companies looking to leverage new products. Here is a look at how you can plan for introducing new technologies –including new software, new systems, new versions of existing software and systems, and more –– to ensure the proper technical teams and governance mechanisms are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All rights reserved. ibm.com/developerWorks developerWorks® these goals. A possible future trend that might lead to equally large numbers of new technologies and products is the concept of cloud computing, just to name one last example. Another trigger for new technology can come from the lines of business in an enterprise. New business requirements might arise that result in the need for technology that an IT organization currently does not support. Examples for the technologies that have to be introduced to the IT landscape in those cases are portals, multi–channel architectures, or business rule systems. A lifecycle for new technology Despite the wide variety of new technologies (as defined above) and just as many possible triggers for these technologies, you can still define a common lifecycle that all technologies share. The lifecycle described in Table 1 is such an example; there are many variations but all would include these same major aspects: Table 1. Sample technology lifecyle Stage Introduced Description A technology or product is brought into an organization for the first time. This is when various groups get to take a first look at the technology, often testing its use in the form of a proof of concept. Initial planning has been conducted for the technology to go into production in support of a business solution, which will act as a pilot. The planning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Communication in Global Business Communication in Global Business. The use of computers and the Internet in workplaces are becoming more pervasive and the functions performed using computers are dramatically increasing. The influence of technology will go beyond new equipment and faster communications, as work and skills will be redefined and reorganized. This will lead to paperless and people less offices. Companies understand the need to respond and adapt to the evolving use of technology by their customers, stakeholders and suppliers. Technology adoption typically occurs in an S–curve with exponential growth of technology adoption from 'early adopters'. Not only is the diffusion of individual technologies exponential, but the rate of diffusion is accelerating and with each new technology release the 'early adopters' and 'early majority' move further to the left. It took more than 70 years for telephones to reach 50% household penetration, compared with 28 years for radio, and 10 for internet access. Following this trend, the rate of technology adoption should continue to accelerate so that each new technology outpaces the adoption of its predecessor. This is going to directly affect current type of office. The changing office is strongly influenced by the young new workforce (Generation Y). Generation Y's expectations are being formed by the technologies they surround themselves with. They adapt their lifestyles to each new technological invention and they won't accept that the brands they interact ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. A Case Management System For Cultivated Vital Planning And... Abstract The business issue to be solved is how to better advance operational productivities, lower costs, and increase insight into the interface of the document management system with a more technological improved case management system for cultivated vital planning and performance controls. Organizational Background The organization that will be the topic of discussion in my final project paper is the Dallas County Clerk Criminal Section and its current mainframe/document management systems. The county clerk serves as the clerk of both the county court and the commissioners court ("District and County Clerk", 2014, pg.1). It maintains the official records of the same courts, as well as receives monetary assets in fines and fees ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I will be focusing on two of these systems, Mainframe and the DMS. The Mainframe system is an antiquated system that can no longer support the current needs of the division. Mainframe has much involved with its use, an aging workforce, and high mainframe costs, lack of innovation and flexibility and technological security risks. As the society and current Texas standards require electronic filing and business process via e–machines, kiosks and among other items. Not only is the current two systems substantially ineffective operation of technology, the need of non–standardized systems pounds the ability of management to access, manage and illustrate analytical data components for strategic planning purposes and routine performance inspection. High level Solution In order to better effectively manage of converting dual case management systems and interfacing the documents into the cases, I will propose that the Criminal Division purchase an existing criminal justice case management system that will allow the interface of the currently used document management system, On Base (Hyland Product). This will meet the broadest needs of all of our end users and will streamline the IT functionalities of manipulating the antiquated mainframe system as well as combine the current On ... • 18. Business Process Description Is A Map V. APPROACH TO BPMN Business process description is a map that helps us to navigate through our business activities. Using a map for navigation is quite normal in many activities, e.g., it is a must when we need to move something or be moved ourselves from one place to another. We have different maps for navigating in the physical space, marine maps, road maps, hiking maps, etc. The choice of a map depends on what we want to move, where and by what means. If we travel by car we need a road map, if we travel on foot in a mountain area, we need a hiking map. What is more, we may need several different types of maps, in case of emergency. For example, a simplified road map that shows how to get from one point to another will not help if we make a wrong turn somewhere on the way. We will need a detailed road map to get back to our initial course. Identify applicable sponsor/s here. If no sponsors, delete this text box (sponsors). VI. APPROACH TO CHOOSE BPMN If an organization is functionally structured and processes are not identified, it is suitable to use input/output view (for example, IDEF0), or agent–related view (for example, RAD). Input/output view suit mostly organizations that have formal ways of internal communications via some objects, like documents, files, etc. Then the processes can be discovered by following the movement of these objects inside the organization. In an organization, there are major risks and uncertainties in systems development that need to be addressed by the management. In business process reengineering, the organization can develop the business vision and process objective. Part 1 In considering the overall process on the pulp and bleached products industry it is always good to start with the main performance objectives and measures. One of the first important issues is the process design and layout. How the process architecture looks like and how well it is designed to fulfill all the required operations would be the most important questions to be asked. As stated in the case study the main problem of the mill appears to be the machines, number 5 and 6. They were in use since 1967 and were quite old, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Part 2 In this part I am going to show some improvement techniques, which will help to solve the problems faced by mill's manager. Firstly, in order to understand the entire process and find its problems it is essential to map the process. Using the Flowcharting technique of process mapping and exhibit #3 of the case study a basic scheme of the overall process should be built. Once the process is sketched it is easier to understand what are the bottlenecks and in which way it could be improved or even redesigned to fulfill the requirements of the system (Slack et al, 1998:701). After having a good understanding of what processes are running in the mill it is then advised to focus on each of them separately. Flow charts can be used for the entire overview of the process improvement. They visually represent the process, identifying the problems and pointing on the participants (material or information flow). The flowchart system can be very basic as well as different approaches could be used such as Burlton's Transformation Model or Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN). BPMN was developed in two versions, a core notation set to use by business people and an extended notation set for automation. It uses a particular symbol set (Harmon, 2007:231). Service quality is a measurable set of standard established upon by a provider in delivering services to a client/customer. It can also be viewed upon as a degree of both tangible and intangible expectation coming from a customer's perspective on how these services are realized by the supplier or by the product coming from the provider. Dimensions of quality: Performance – this is the primary operating characteristics of a product (David, 1987). A customer usually looks for this particular quality in availing product or service. This quality dimension involves elements which can be assessed, they can be ranked factually on separate aspect of performance. A customers' decision making is usually influenced by this dimension of the product or service. Features – this dimension is auxiliary to the basic operating characteristic (David, 1987). Considered as the "bells and whistles" of product and services it has distinct characteristic or aspect of a merchandise or service. Feature is also a key factor in influencing the decision making process of a would–be user. Reliability – This dimension mirrors the likelihood of a product deteriorating or shortfalls in quality (David, 1987). Do you think the complexity of a manufacturing business is less for a small business than a large one? Explain why or why not? Answer: No, I do not think the complexity of a manufacturing business is less for a small business than a large one. Because a large manufacturing business has a more standardized and formalized rules, business process which can break down into many pieces. Large manufacturing businesses can also become departmentalized which would make each work process more accurate and easier. The most important reason is that a large manufacturing business could build and afford for a relatively perfect information system compared to small manufacturing businesses. Information system is a system which is composed of five components (hardware, software, data, process, people) that interact to produce and interpret information (www.wikipedia.com). From the video, we can see that Port Townsend does not have a formal and complete information system rather than just saving customer and product information in paper documents. • 43. A Survey on Transformation of BPMN to BPEL Essay III. LITERATURE SURVEY Many researchers have studied the transformation between BPMN and BPEL. Most of the research conducted in this field is analytical in nature. Only few insights exist into the practical use of BPMN. Most notably is the work of Ouyang et al. [10, 11] and [12], who propose that BPMN to BPEL transformation be accomplished by multiple phase matching of pattern and graph transformation. An algorithm for generating readable BPEL code from BPMN model is presented in [10] which generates BPEL code from BPMN model by discovering structural patterns in the BPMN models which in turn are mapped into BPEL structured activities. The original BPD is decomposed into well structured components having one entry and one exit point. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Event handler is enabled while the scope is under execution and thus the corresponding translation is based upon the event action rule. The Standard Process Model (SPM) is decomposed into a collection of event action rules that trigger one another to encode the underlying control flow logic. The fundamental idea is to define precondition set (i.e., encapsulating all the possible ways of reaching an activity) for all the activities in SPM. Each precondition set is associated with an activity and defines the possible way of enabling the activity. Afterwards, all the precondition set with their associated activities are transformed into event–action rule which in turn translates into BPEL event handlers. However, this approach only holds for one specific process model type by applying structural restriction on BPDs. Eventually, the resulting BPEL code is not readable and thus difficult to modify and maintain. Since, a well–structured pattern impose restriction on BPDs, therefore, Ouyang et al.[12] also present another approach that not only maps block–structure in BPMN model but also accounts for quasi–structure and flow based acyclic fragment into block structure BPEL. Quasi–structure patterns are those patterns which can exhibit well–structuredness e.g. splitting a gateway into two gateways without changing semantics to separate the incompatible parts. Having worked as an application developer and environment support for an IT project, I had designed and developed applications as per the business requirements. However, I was always intrigued about why the business wants to change that functionality. As a developer, I never knew the answer to that question. I wanted a role that would bring me closer to the business aspect of a project. A role where I could apply my analytical and problem solving skills. A role where I could improve he performance of a business. The role of business analyst certainly fits that criteria. One of the famous business analysts is Tim Coventry who has written articles like "Why Good Business Analysis Is a CIO 's Best Friend" and "Why You Need Good Business Analysis: Better Business Performance" to name a few. He is the Consulting Director for Business Analysts Pty Ltd (BAPL). BAPL is an expert business analysis company offering business analysis services for initiatives or projects in almost all domains [1]. He has designed, created and delivered business analysis courses based on the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABOK®). He has expertise in all phases of the software development life cycle (SDLC), and specializes in developing Business Analysis "Centre of Excellence" (BACoE) and performing business analysis maturity assessment. There are four aspects in leadership including awareness, alignment, behavior, and style. In conclusion, senior management attaches great importance on this reengineering project. Style: Leadership style is a style for leader or senior management. Learn the six steps in most any benchmarking initiative, from building support, to designing and improving a plan. Benchmarking, step–by–step: • Introduction • Step One: Select the process and build support • Step Two: Determine current performance • Step Three: Determine where performance should be • Step Four: Determine the performance gap • Step Five: Design an action plan • Step Six and Beyond: Continuously improve The new economy represents a transformed business environment brought about by changes related to technology, people, culture and process; a marketplace created by significant shifts in business and cultural ... In this initial step, it is important to gain commitment from management, process owners and staff to participate eagerly on the benchmarking project, and then to develop an action plan to focus efforts and keep information organized. Step Two: Determine current performance In the next step, it is crucial to determine the state of the current business environment. Too often, companies embark upon benchmarking efforts because they want to achieve the well–known results of such companies as Motorola or General Electric. This is misguided because benchmarking is company– and issue–specific. Without a clear understanding of the business environment and the impact of specific business processes on overall business performance, benchmarking will fail to yield meaningful results. Before benchmarking your company against another to discover how they achieve high levels of business performance, you must understand your own performance. An initial self–assessment should include questions to determine if the process has been flowcharted; if the process owners have been correctly identified; where key handoffs exist within and outside of the process; if automated and manual activities have been identified; and finally, if redundancies or inefficiencies have been targeted. We have found that an exercise called process mapping will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Application For Successful Electronic Health Records Reflection Paper Introduction As per Fenton, Giannangelo, & Stanfill (2006), Workflow, project management, personnel, training, support, communication, motivation, vision, leadership and evaluation, are essential considerations for successful electronic health records (EHR) implementations. HI 5329 Assessment and Evaluation course utilized a team work practical approach that covers explicitly or implicitly the majority of those considerations. The first six modules within this course focused mainly on business processes and workflow modeling as described in 'Workflow Modeling' textbook (Sharp & McDermott, 2009), hence this is the first topic discussed in this paper. Additional skills developed during this course include communication and presentation skills, which is discussed here as the second topic. Lastly, the third topic is the economic aspects of evaluation as explained in the 'Evaluation Methods in Biomedical Informatics' textbook (Friedman & Wyatt, 2005). Although this topic was not covered within the course and the practical assignments, it grabs my interest as it discusses a critical real–world issue. Topic 1: Processes and Workflow Modeling In the introduction section of each module, a statement emphasizing the importance of processes and workflow modeling knowledge for healthcare informaticians was declared, as such knowledge and skills are required to ensure high–quality performance. This vagueness between BA and BPM roles creates confusion in practice and academia, which impacts on role designs, skills assessment, human resource development, recruitment and professional development. The impact of such was made clear at a Leonardo Process Days 2010 conference panel where BA and BPM role differentiation was reviewed. An outcome of this discussion was a consensus that i) Practitioners struggle to recognise and articulate the skills required (BA, BPM or both?) for various organisational initiatives and how to locate appropriate talent to fill these roles ii) Academics fail to position BA and BPM as separate professions and often bundle them as the same in their course descriptions and marketing iii) Students and prospective candidates for employment vacancies therefore remain confused about the specific skill sets required of a BPM professional a nd/ or a Business Analyst. Difference Between Internal And External Crowdsourcing According to several scholars (including Villarroel and Reis, 2010; Boudreau and Lakhani, 2013; Carlson and Wilmot, 2006; Chesbrough, 2006a, 2006b; Byren, 2013; Yap, 2012; Howe, 2006, 2009; Brabham, 2008b, 2009, 2013), the main difference between internal and external crowdsourcing can be summarized as follows: i) the internal crowd (employees) is known to the firm; ii) the crowd can be all employees of the firm, a subsidiary of the firm, or may also include partners and suppliers; iii) the crowd is specifically used for problem solving or aggregating ideas for innovation purposes; and iv) the crowd may also be anyone with internet or mobile remote access capable of participating in a crowdsourcing contest and vote on the ideas of others. Internal crowdsourcing is easier to implement in companies where social media acceptance is high (Yap, 2012); crowdsourcing attempts within companies don't measure up to the external crowd (Boudreau and Lakhani, 2013). Crowdsourcing forms such as idea marketplaces and idea jams lack the capabilities and fall short to the external crowd 's full capacity. Boudreau and Lakhani (2013) believes employees are discouraged from seeking challenges; Yap (2012) says that internal crowdsourcing unveil innovations from employees which otherwise would not be captured. Carlson and Wilmot (2006) emphasizes that every employee does in fact has the ability to innovate, and must do so for their company to stay competitive. The desire for deeper exploration of ...
