2. Idea 1:Following all conventions
A Cheesy love song that
everyone can relate to.
After looking at some of my
feedback I chose to make my first
idea follow all the conventions of
a Girl band music video.
The video will be both performance and
narrative based. Using the studio and
location.
If you listen to my track, you will find its
slightly dated. Most Girl Band videos these
days are designed to play in clubs so have
more of a base and show strong powerful
woman for example Fifth Harmony $Boss
video. My track has more of a 90’s vibe
similar to groups like Atomic Kitten and The
Honeyz.
Girls Aloud’s video ‘love
machine’ uses performance, a
lose narrative and some studio
shots.
3. The narrative side of the
video (the story) will be
some kind of love story.
The song talks about hope
and love and will link well
with a break up.
The Mese-en-scene (the
scenery/props) will use the idea of
pathetic fallacy using rain/gloom/shots
looking out windows. The lighting
will be low key with blues
intertwined. Glimpses of light and
high key colours will be used to
portray the hope. Going against the
convention I thought about adding
parts of black and whites.
The ‘male gaze’ (the idea that the media sees through
the eyes of a male) will be used but subtly for
example Shontelle’s ‘T-shirt’ uses the artist in her
boyfriends oversized T-shirt the way she interacts with
it adds a sexual nature.
JoJo’s – too little to late video
The honeyz video shows low
key with hints of blue linking
in with the sad breakup
theme. Pop of red are also
used adding a sexy appeal.
Shontelle’s T-shirt video.
4. Lots of close close/medium shots of the band
members to show emotion, beauty and
vulnerability. I really liked the High angle shots
used to show vulnerability in JoJo video
‘leave’.
Every girl band video has some sort of
dance in it. Due to the pace of the
track I can not have a up to beat
dance. However after looking at some
older videos for example ‘the Honeyz’
and atomic kitten ‘whole again’ I have
found a slower simple dance would
work possibly shot in the high key
studio.
Close ups in girl
band music videos.

‘leave’
5. Idea 2: Old with a modern twist
After studying the genre of pop and older girl band videos I
found a nature theme ran through them. Linking nature with
beauty.
Rihanna's album loud and song
California king bed follows this idea
on a big scale. Using pinks and
whites to show purity linking it with
roses and nature.
The Saturday’s
‘missing you’
video links
with nature.
The pussy cat dolls ‘I hate this
part’ natural theme linked with
the vulnerability of the lyrics.
6. Again the camera angles will be close up and
medium however I want to include some
extreme close ups of my band members
lips/eyes showing their beauty and a sense of
vulnerability.
The pussy cat dolls wear stylish clothing however the way
they stand makes the video look sexy appealing to a male
audience.
Rihanna’s clothing is white showing purity
however the style of it and the way she is
lay adds sexiness to the video.
