1. Initial ideas for potential music videos

2. Red Hot Chili Peppers- Dani California
For this song we have also embraced the nature of lyrics that are based off a real character 'Dani
California' a Southern girl who moved to California and lived a "hard, fast and unsettled life". She has
been mentioned in multiple songs by the band and as a result our idea would roughly follow the lyrics
(Andrew Goodwin's concept). Instead of the true sad story of Dani's life, we wanted a fast pace, action
filled story that made Dani look like a 'hero'.
Dani California (the main girl in the music video) is seen sitting down on the sofa and turning the TV on.
On TV we see a show in which there is a man dressed up in a chili suit with maracas, a hippie and a cop.
They’re sat down flicking through a comic magazine in which there is a girl (dressed all black with a mask
on). At some point during this, the camera goes ‘into’ the screen and we see the action happening in
front of us.
Dani walks up to them and shoots/knocks out one of them. The other two run away. There is a chase for
these people all throughout the video. The chili man being the last one she finds and kills/lets off. During
the chase, the men are seen doing other crimes but soon caught by Dani which results back in the chase.
There is a close up of Dani opening her eyes, making it look as though she’s sat back where the music
video started. Instead, the camera zooms out from her face and past prison bars. As she looks around the
prison room, there are pictures of the crime scenes (dead/injured people she chased during the video
etc.) as she looks at them the camera focuses on her face/eyes where a moment of realisation is visible.
A quick montage of the scenes seen previously is placed into the video as If it’s Dani remembering
everything.
She is left speechless in the prison cell/she throws a tantrum tearing up the pictures and trying to get out
of the prison cell but ends up failing.
Throughout all of this, there are cuts to a band preforming.

3. The White Stripes- Seven Nation Army
Our idea for the music video follows a teenage boy being bullied by his peers. The whole video changes
between seeing the boy being bullied and showing how he copes with it and how it is affecting his life.
Eventually, the boy stands up for himself and displays acts of violence through braking items and
potentially abusing the main bully. For this idea, the visuals would follow the lyrics of the song relating it
to Andrew Goodwin's concept of relationship between the lyrics and visuals. For example:
‘I'm gonna fight 'em off
A seven nation army couldn't hold me back
They're gonna rip it off
Taking their time right behind my back’
Furthermore, we would take some of these lyrics literally and translate them into our video. For example
the constant mention of blood at the end of the song– ‘And I'm bleeding, and I'm bleeding, and I'm
bleeding’ or ‘And the stains comin' from my blood tell me, "Go back home’. will help us to highlight the
fact that the boy beat up his bully and that his actions are on his own hands.
The song is fast paced and includes drums beats that have a lot of potential for editing as well as action
happening in the video, since we are planning including elements of violence and fast pace movement.
In addition, the video will include cuts to the 'band' playing the song to show a clear element of rock.
From my research I know that this is a common convention used for rock and indie music to show off
the aspect of ‘live music’ that is commonly associated with the genre. This way, our video will evidently
fit into the genre category of ‘rock’.

4. Imagine Dragons- On Top Of The World
For this song we decided that it would be a good idea to have an open-minded idea. The song does not
follow a story and therefore we did not want to have a strict narrative involved into it. Instead, to have
something similar to Lana Del Rey's music video for 'Video Games' or Vance Joy 'Riptide' where the
video focuses more on showing clips of scenarios or focusing on more aesthetically pleasing shots.

5. Eminem- Till I Collapse
This idea stemmed from Lloyd as he is a fan of Eminem. I thought that including a rap artist would in fact
be a good idea as it varies our genre styles. We are roughly planning these ideas before we conduct our
audience research and therefore we are unaware of what genre will be requested the most.
The idea included a boy training to be a boxer throughout the whole video. Similarly to 'Seven Nation
Army' you see his daily struggles and what stemmed his passion for boxing. Eventually at the end of the
video there is a boxing match in which he fights and wins or loses (this would be further developed in our
pre-production stage). At the end we wanted to have an outro section which shows the effect on his after
the fight.
The intro of the song states:
‘Cause sometimes you just feel tired,
Feel weak, and when you feel weak, you feel like you wanna just give up.
But you gotta search within you, you gotta find that inner strength
And just pull that shit out of you and get that motivation to not give up
And not be a quitter, no matter how bad you wanna just fall flat on your face and collapse’.
Since this part is spoken and included as an ‘intro’ before the rapping begins, it would give us a place to
establish the situation and narrative. Once again, this complies with Andrew Goodwin’s relationship
between lyrics and visuals concept. The intro would fit perfectly with our idea since it talks about feeling
weak and strength which can easily be compared to sports and more specifically boxing.
In the chorus Eminem says ‘I'ma rip this shit till my bones collapse’. He swears in the song on multiple
occasions allowing us to be violent and vulgar in the music video.
