This document proposes a music video pitch for the song "Young Blood" by The Naked and Famous. The proposed video would depict scenes from teenage life through a montage of snapshots from a photo album. It would begin and end with a girl looking through the album, with each photo transitioning to a short video clip representing that memory. Throughout would be interspersed shots of the singer performing the song. The video aims to capture the fleeting nature of youth through a loosely narrative, home movie-style montage.

Other songs that I looked at include ‘teams’ by Lorde and ‘paper planes’ my M.I.A
3. Lyrics to Young Blood
We're only young and naive still
We require certain skills
The mood it changes like the wind
Hard to control when it begins
The bittersweet between my teeth
Trying to find the in-betweens
Fall back in love eventually
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
Can't help myself but count the flaws
Claw my way out through these walls
One temporary escape
Feel it start to permeate
We lie beneath the stars at night
Our hands gripping each other tight
You keep my secrets hope to die
Promises, swear them to the sky
The bittersweet between my teeth
Trying to find the in-betweens
Fall back in love eventually
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
…
…
As it withers
Brittle it shakes
Can you whisper
As it crumbles and breaks
As you shiver
Count up all your mistakes
Pair of forgivers
Let go before it's too late
Can you whisper
Can you whisper
Can you whisper
Can you whisper
The bitter sweet between my teeth
Trying to find the in-betweens
Fall back in love eventually
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
The bitter sweet between my teeth
Trying to find the in-betweens
Fall back in love eventually
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
Lyric analysis
The song starts talking about how
teenagers are fickle with their emotions,
that they change quickly and without
control. It also implies that teenagers feel
more. The chorus talks about the bitter
sweetness of young love and how its
fleeting. It also mentions the transition
from a teenager to an adult. How this
transition is often both welcomed and
dreaded. The second verse talks about
teenage identity and self image, how
teenagers deal with these issues. The
third verse is about friendship and-or
relationships. How friendships are made,
how they feel limitless and the secrets
friends share. The fourth verse is about
forgiveness and letting go in order to
move on and grow up. The entire song is
an ode to teenage life and youth.
4. The plot
Based on the original music video I want to have
multiple shots of teenage life from the view of the
teenagers involved. However I want to start the video
with a girl going through a photo album, having the
music start when a close up of a photo is shown- the
photo will be a screenshot of a montage video clip.
From this close up the montage will start, each
montage clip will represent the photographs in the
album. The montage will be spliced with performance
shots of Singing.
5. Story board
My music video is more abstract, therefore
there is not a linear narrative to the
storyboard, the main focus is a video montage.
The narrative stars with a girl looking at a
photo album of pictures with her friends. A
close up of a photo will start the music, this
photo will act as the start of a film montage,
each segment will be a representation of a
memory/picture. All of the film segments will
have similar characters. The idea is to give
insight into teenage lives from the view of
teenagers. The music video will end in an
almost parallel shot to the start, the montage
will freeze and this shot will be a photo in the
album. Throughout the video there will be a
few film segments of a performance.
Examples of montage shots include- getting
ready for a party, dancing, walking down
roads, sitting together talking excitedly, taking
shots, facial close ups of people pulling faces
into the camera, waiting at bus stops, drinking
a slush puppy, playing in snow, time laps of
things such as cars, and sunsets ect.
6. Locations & Roles
Locations-
Tamworth Castle grounds
Inside houses (Parties, Bedrooms, kitchens ect)
Inside a car
Roles
Teenagers – friends
Girl- possibly me
7. Stylistic features
Multiple locations
Hand held shots in an almost home movie style
Group shots and single shots of teenagers
Video splicing with performance element- singers face
Time laps shots of scenery
Quick cuts to match the tempo
Old style photo album to start and end with
8. The artist that I plan on using for my music
video will be female, most likely myself. I
plan to base the character on artists such
as Hayley Williams, the lead singer of the
band Paramore and the singer Ellie
Goulding.
Young, carefree and strong. This would
appeal to girls who would wish to be
similar to the artists. The style would be
young and modern.
Other artist's to take a look at include Kids
of 88, Royal Blood, MGNT & Lorde
Artist Branding
9. More Video influences
“Shine” By years and years-
“Ain't It Fun” by Paramore
This video has elements that I want to
incorporate in my video such as the
variety of the the locations and once
again the abstract concept for the
video.
This contains elements that are similar to
what I want for my music video such as
having a more abstract narrative, and
splicing these narrative shots with simple
facial performance shots
10. Equipment list
The film will be shot using a hand held
camera in order to give it an almost home
movie esque style.
Spot lighting will be used for the
performance shots in order to make them
appear more professional.
A white background or screen will be used
for the performance based shots
A tripod will be used inn order to make the
shots steady.
11. Possible issues
The quality of footage- this may be a problem as the video is
supposed to be almost home movie style therefore the quality may
be affected
Working on my own- this would limit my idea’s and the skill input
as I will only be able to do so much.
Getting enough people to act as extra’s in my video clips- my video is
supposed to give a teenagers perspective therefore I will need
multiple people to be in my video
I don’t think there will be any representation issues in my music
video therefore I don’t have anything to overcome. I plan on giving a
positive representation of teenagers, both male and female.
