Speed Limit
Should Highway Speed Limits Be Increased? Should highway speed limits be increased? Should we
strike down every sign that the government posts and uses to regulate the speed limit on the
thousands of highways around the country? Should we trust the driving ability of each and every
person to drive within a reasonably safe speed? The response that most people lean toward is one of
negativity. People automatically assume that the speeds presently posted on our highways are there
only for our own protection. People do not believe that the government is knowingly implementing
speed limits that are below a safe speed for a given roadway. It is true that the government claims to
set speed limits that are for the public well being. As ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result of this speed increase safety advocates claim that there was a nation wide increase on
fatalities. However the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety found otherwise. Their reports show that
there was an increase in the nation's fatalities but the states that chose to increase their speed
experienced a 3.5 % less of a fatality increase. (Shemmens) Recently, The United States Department
of transportation has done a study that will disprove the notion that fatalities vary with speed even
further. When Congress repealed the NMLS law on December 8, 1995, many critics immediately
claimed that more fatalities would result. Ralph Nader and various other critics estimated that
passing the bill would cause at least 6400 more deaths than when the speed limit was set at 55 miles
per hour nationally (Shemmens). Although the actual result was an increase in deaths, the increase
was marginal compared to estimates. The actual death increase was only 109 lives. The human lives
lost are valuable but it is important to note the actual deaths per–one hundred million miles had
decrease for 1995 to 1996. The percentage of miles traveled was up 1.7 percent while fatalities only
increased 0.3 percent for the year (Johnson). After the new speed limits were placed on the 26
different states which decided to increase their speed limits, there was a surprising change.

City Limits
Have you ever wonded what you would do if you were mayor? A mayor decides where a building is
built, fill out paperwork, and go to public things.Council bluffs needs a good mayor to run the city.
As mayor, I would let more animals into the city limits, I would make the farmers grow organic food
only, I would keep the city the same size. As soon as I become your mayor I would, let more
animals in the city limits. If we let more animals in the city, some people might come to live here
because they can have farm animals in the city limits. If we let more animals in the city limits, some
of the kids what to live on a farm, then some people can live in the city and have a small yard and
there will be more room in the city for people. This would benefit Council Bluffs by, there will be
people that like the idea and move to Council Bluffs. Some of the kids that are lonely will have
someone to play with if they are allergic to cats and dogs. They might be lonely because there
parents are always at work. The farm animals will like the kids only friend that will be there. The
kid will not be board. Now you know why I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By keeping the city the same size, there would be more farmland, than if you keep on expanding the
city. If you keep on expanding the city, sooner or later there will be no farmland. If everyone keeps
on expanding the city's, then there will be no food. If there was no farmland, then the farmers will
lose their jobs. Not all of the land is farmland. Some of the land that is out in the country is timbers.
If we keep on expanding the city, there will be less trees. We need trees to live. We need the oxygen
that trees breathe out, because they do not need a lot of oxygen. Trees also clean the air. This would
benefit Council Bluffs by, there would be plenty of farmland, there would be clean air and good air.
That is why I think that it is important to keep the city the same

External Factors ( Or External Environment )

External Factors (or External Environment)
During the 1970s and 1980s, the Republic of Korea achieved exceptional economic development.
However, the government focused on regional development rather than infrastructure development
(Hine & Chelliah, 2009). Therefore, the rate of infrastructure investment had been decreasing in the
1980s in particular, which drove a lot of traffic bottlenecks in many regions, and high traffic
congestion costs in roads, railways, and seaports. At the beginning of the 1990s, the government
acknowledged the limits to fund the needed construction of infrastructure facilities and felt the need
to mobilize new sources to invest infrastructure (Kim et al., 2011).
To promote the PPP program as a new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The government modified this law again in January 2005. The revised Act established a specialized
agency ("Public–Private Infrastructure Investment Management Center") to provide technical
assistance to the Ministry of Strategy and Finance and procuring authorities. Also, the MRG was
amended due to excessive demand. In October 2009, the MRG program ended, and was replaced by
the support measurement of compensation of base cost, under which the government shares
investment risks within the limit of the government's cost, if the project was conducted as a public
project. Therefore, the changes in toll road PPP projects characteristics can be divided as shown in
Table 2 (Hine & Chelliah, 2009; Kim et al., 2011).
Current Status of PPP highways
The first PPP highway is the Incheon International Airport Expressway completed in November
2000. As of 2015, there are 24 PPP highways in Korea, and 10 of them are operating, 8 projects are
under construction, 3 of them are in the planning stage and the remaining 3 projects are under
discussion. The total investment cost for 24 routes is 41.2 trillion won. The ratio of PPP highways
continuously increased after 2000, and the PPP highways account for 11% (460km) of the total
Korean national highways (4,139km) as of 2015. On the other hand, the PPP projects were
developed as solicited PPP projects, but since 2005, projects were in progress by unsolicited
projects.

My Work Experience Paper
On corporate culture
Over the past 10 years my work experience has been focused on IT work both from a technical
standpoint and as a leadership role. While not dealing with pressures public companies face in terms
of financials, there are parallels that can be drawn to how IT practices are done. Information
Technology, as well as in many other professions, there is always the constant pressure to meet
objectives quickly as possible to meet internal and external customer demands. In these moments
opportunities present themselves to make the shortcuts in those tasks to not meet your
responsibilities. Example areas include areas such as security, documentation, and the quick fix vs

Motor Vehicles and Speed Limits in the United States
Since the first gasoline powered vehicle was invented, automobile technology has advanced at a
rapid pace to bring us faster, safer vehicles (Managing Speed). Roads have improved from dirt and
gravel to asphalt and concrete, and the number of vehicles on the road has increased exponentially.
The motor vehicle has become the backbone of today's society. Speed limits in the United States are
at the highest they have ever been, yet vehicles today are powerful enough to easily exceed those
posted speed limits. There are two very different groups of people advocating for what a reasonable
speed limit is: a group lobbying for extreme safety and a group lobbying for faster travel times.
Driving is an inherently risky undertaking no matter what the speed limit is, thus a compromise is
tried to be met by increasing safety while allowing for practical travel times. There have been
various methodologies theorized in setting speed limits, but which one is the best for today's
technologies and environments? Speed limits in the state of Virginia are set using the Operating
Speed Method. The Operating Speed method, or 85th percentile method, uses the speed that 85
percent of free flowing traffic is at or below. The 85th percentile method relies on driver judgment
and collects the vast majority of motorists traveling on the roadway. If the speed limit was set 5
MPH below the 85th percentile speed, more than 50% of drivers would be illegally speeding, but if
the speed limit was increased 5

Given Data :
Breadth of the Beam = 300 mm
B.M = 200 KN/m
Factored B.M. = 1.5 * 200 = 300 KN/m fck = M20 fy = Fe415
Solution :
Ultimate Moment of Resistance (Mu lim) = 0.138*fck*b*d^2
Mu lim ≥ 300 KN/m
0.138 * (20) * (300) *d^2 ≥ 300 *10^6 d ≥ 601.93 mm

Ast = 0.93 * b * d/100 = 0.93 * 300 * 607 /100 = 1696.99 mm2

The Limits of Identification
The Limits of Identification
Identities are prescriptive representations of every society's members themselves and of their
relationship to each other. The "limits of identification", thus divide social prescription of identity
into two categories, prescriptive accounts of members themselves which is their personal identities,
and behavioral prescriptions for the proper enactment of these identities which is society's norms or
behavioral norms that require individual's to be identified and act in certain ways. In the three
passages, "Selections from reading Lolita in Tehran," by Azar Nafisi, "On Becoming an Arab," by
Leila Ahmed; "Selections from Losing Matt Sheppard," by Beth Loffreda, the "limits of
identification" are introduced based on gender, race, and sexuality as main factors used to classify
the characters in the readings and pose their identity which led to prejudice, discrimination, and
limit their lives based on general stereotypes. "Limits of identification," therefore are general ideas
used to distinguish individuals who are different in some ways from the rest of society, because they
belong to a certain gender, race, or act in certain ways that is different from the set of social norms.
According to Ahmed, Nafisi, and Matt's life experience, hence, the potential "limits of
identification", are their societies' norms and beliefs that are reinforced on them. These norms and
beliefs allow every society and every individual to marginalize these characters based

Speed Limits Of The Transport Industry
Speed limit in the transport industry is not a new phenomenon, and they are laws and by laws that
limit the speed of vehicles at a specific stretch of roads. Majority of countries around the world have
speed limits on all roads or on specific roads. Moreover, majority of the speed limit rules apply in
populous areas such as urban centers and residential areas. Other speed limits might also apply in
some regions with higher population of animals along the roads. Road signs are used to indicate
speed limits. In some cases, the speed limit law or by laws is not strict (Lund, 2007). There are many
reasons why speed limits can be necessary in Halifax region, and there are many reasons why it
makes sense to implement speed limits is because they have worked in other cities and nations.
Otherwise, the most important impact is the significant reduction in road accident as a result of
speed limits. Speed limits have existed since the steam engine error in the 19th century where the
United Kingdom set the maximum speed at 10 kilometers per hour. However, it is important to note
that the reasoning behind the speed limit could have been different from the modern speed limits
reasoning. In the 19th century, technology advancement in the transport industry was at infant
stages, therefore, the lawmaker could not image a huge machine traveling at a relatively high speed.
This means that a speed of 10 kilometer per hour could be a low speed when modern technology is
considered, but could be

E PLANNING STRATEGY OF POLICY SPEED LIMITS FOR MOTOR VEHICLES IN
MALAYSIA
10.1 INTRODUCTION
Speed limit is the maximum speed allowed by law for road vehicles. The highest speed limit in
Malaysia is 110 km/h. There are very few public roads have no speed limit. In other country, there
are some roads that have minimum speed limits, where slow speeds are considered to impede traffic
or be dangerous. National Speed Limits is a set of speed limits applicable on Malaysian
expressways, federal roads, state roads and municipal roads. Like any other countries in the world,
failing to obey the speed limits on Malaysian roads and expressways is an offence as subject to
Malaysian Road Safety Act 1987. The government agency that responsible about the road speed
limits at Malaysia was Jabatan Kerja Raya Malaysia (JKR) under their road department. The first
speed limit was the 10 mph limit introduced by the Locomotive Act of 1861 in the United Kingdom.

The Speed Limit in the State of Michigan Should be Raised...
Running late has always been a problem for people, whether it is for work or a doctor's appointment,
but will the benefit of arriving to a destination two or three minutes faster be worth the number of
lives that could be killed or seriously injured? Of course not. The proposed increase of the speed
limit in the state of Michigan going from 70 to 80 MPH or in some cases going from 55 to 80 MPH
has brought up discussions which experts say increasing the speed limit will only cause more
accidents. Reporter Roop Raj uses a policy statement to argue that the speed limit should not be
increased to 80 MPH. Allowing the speed limit to increase to 80 MPH will only make drivers speed
more. The first piece of ground is the author's assertion that raising the speed limit will make people
drive even faster. According to auto attorney Steve Gursten, cell phone use is present all the time
and talking about increasing the speed limit is easier said than done. Increasing the speed limit at the
same time that distraction in cars is greater than it has ever been before could cause even bigger
problems. For example, texting while driving makes a person 23 times more likely to crash.
(National Hwy Transportation Safety Administration). So if drivers are already distracted, there
should be no need to increase the speed limit to increase danger on the road. One warrant for this
piece of ground is that drivers have a need for speed, so imagine people going close to 90 MPH on
the highway. People

A Limit for Their Own Good
Whether we are aware of it or not, technology has become a normal part of our lives nowadays. No
matter where we go, technology will be present, from mobile devices to more complicated creations,
and all generations are exposed to them, specially the younger ones. This young generation spends a
great deal of time in front the screens of these technologic devices. Which is why parents should
limit the amount of time children under 12 use technology since it does not let them develop certain
abilities, it limits them from having real–life interactions, and it might cause children health
problems too (Summers).
Many kids were born in the 'Digital Era' therefore, they are surrounded by technology and screens
most of the time, mostly at home, but too much exposure to this can affect their abilities. According
to a Research made by the University of California, Los Angeles, kids who spent time away from
looking at screens were better at recognizing human emotions than kids who kept living their lives
with technology around them (Wolpert). This show us, how replacing real–life interactions for
screen–time not only isolates children but also makes them unable to develop this kind of skill,
skills that are important in the real life and are likely to be needed in the future. Besides that, kids
who invest most of their time on staring at screens can be faced by health problems in the long run.
As reported by some researchers, this health problems range "from childhood obesity and irregular
sleep patterns to social and/or behavioral issues." (Summers). Therefore, considering all these
negative effects on children, parents should be more cautious regarding how much time their kids
use technology and expose themselves to screens and digital media.
Some parents might argue, however, that kids do not necessarily waste their time with technology
and actually utilize it for educational purposes such as "researching a school project, creating music
or art, or interacting with friends via social media."(Elana). Parents might believe that this is reason
acceptable enough to let them control it as much as they need to. They are partially

What Would Happen If We Have Full Freedom Research Paper
What would happen if we had full freedom? What would need to happen to have full freedom?
Freedom means we are free and able to do whatever we desire. We do have freedom as of now, but it
is limited. We have rules and laws in place that are meant to be followed. They are here to protect
the well being of everyone and thing. These laws are not necessarily bad but it just doesn't allow full
freedom to come forth. There are some laws that have been revoked because we realized they were
just plain wrong or it put too much restraint on freedom. The laws we have are not perfect but we
know and allow it because of the benefits. There are some cons to the limits we put on ourselves but
it's for our own good.

We need to improve before we improve the world. Once we do that then we would be able to
properly work together for peace and freedom. To do this would mean that other countries improved
themselves too. When this finally happens and we think we are good enough to work with each
other we will try. As we try to work together we realize we can't.
Why? Why can't we work together when we all bettered ourselves. The reason is because we all
improved on ourselves but we did in different ways. We improved in our own beliefs and ideas.
Nothing would have changed we would have our freedom than has been bettered for us not for the
entire world. The conflicts would still be there just like before. The only thing we can do is accept
that we will never have peace between everybody.
The freedom we have is still limited by peace. That doesn't mean we should keep things the same
we still should improve ourselves for our future. We just need to know everyone doesn't have the
same attitude. When we mention freedom everyone thinks of it differently. Our nation definition of
freedom is different than others that why we fight for it. We still fight for our limited freedom. It
may be limited but it's worth fighting for because we believe it the best for

Overview Of The Socio-Cultural Cognitive Theory Of Lev...
The socio–cultural cognitive theory of Lev Vygotsky emphasizes children's cognitive development
cannot be understood apart from cultural settings, and social interactions and activities shape their
ways to construct knowledge (Jahoda, Dagnan, Stenfert Kroese, Pert, & Trower, 2009; Santrock,
Mackenzie–Rivers, & Pangman, 2017; Woolfolk, Winne, & Perry, 2016). The notion of the zone of
proximal development (ZPD) is a well–known concept of his theoretical framework (Santrock,
Mackenzie–Rivers, & Pangman, 2017; Woolfolk, Winne, & Perry, 2016; Ylvisaker & Feeney, 2009).
In the follow paragraphs, I will brief explain this concept, clarify how it closely relates to individual
daily life, and discuss the limit of this notion with reflect on my personal experience.
Vygotsky's concept of ZPD refers to the range of difficulties which children are unable to master
alone, but they could solve independently if adults or more mature peers provide the appropriate
support (Jahoda, Dagnan, Stenfert Kroese, Pert, & Trower, 2009; Santrock, Mackenzie–Rivers, &
Pangman, 2017; Woolfolk, Winne, & Perry, 2016). In teaching, the ZPD typifies the theoretical
space between what students already knew and what students are not ready to learn (Santrock,
Mackenzie–Rivers, & Pangman, 2017; Woolfolk, Winne, & Perry, 2016). Two borders of this space
are represented as the lower limit of ZPD (e.g. the difficulties which children are able to master
alone, what students already knew), and the upper limit of

A study showed that high speed drivers where more often males and judged to be younger than 30.
24 percent of all male drivers involved in fatal crashes where speeding at the time of crash,
compared to only 15 percent of all female drivers.(Highway safety,2011) Devices that are used to
detect speed include radars, lasers, VASCAR, and speed cameras. Radars are gun like devices that is
aimed at the car and a electromagnetic signal is pointed toward the target vehicle and they pick up
the return signal reflected off the vehicle. Speed radar devices measure the frequency of the
reflected signal and compare it with the frequency of the original signal to determine the speed of
the target vehicle. Radar guns are highly reliable and accurate however it is extremely difficult to
pinpoint one vehicle in heavy traffic, also some vehicles have radar detectors that tell where the
radars are at so they do not get caught speeding. Lasers also known as LIDAR( Light detection and
ranging), use a time/ distance calculation to measure speed. The device aims a narrowed band of
light at the target vehicle and can measure the time it takes to reflect the light. These are better for
heavy traffic because it can pinpoint a certain car. VASCAR stands for visual average speed
calculator and recorder. This device is

Limits Of Frankenstein
To anyone who is asked about the story of Frankenstein, it is simply about a monster and a mad
scientist who wanted to push the limits of sciences and create life by himself using electricity. But as
we read Mary Shelley's novel, we discover a more complex questioning of the limits of what makes
someone human. The story being told by Victor Frankenstein to Robert Walton presents it as the
cruel and frightening tale a man recounts to another about the daemon he created. Yet it could also
be seen as the story of a being looking for a parent, or a mentor, to show him the way to a normal
human life.
Indeed, according to Judith Halberstam in Skin Shows: Gothic Horror and the Technology of
Monsters, this story "about the making of a monster [...]

Constitutional Limits
This week's study of Constitutional Limits has presented before this group of students a
correlational objective between the vagueness doctrine and due process clauses. Can we have one
without the other? If not, why? According to Brody and Acker (2010, p.28), citizens must be made
aware of laws in order to abide by them. A person cannot be expected to abide by laws of society, if
those laws have not been provided to the public. In the case of Lambert v. California (1958), a
person who has been convicted of a felony cannot reside in the city of Los Angeles past five days
without registering. Failure to do so, can and will result in additional charges. If the law was not
posted, in plain sight, for all citizens to be able to see, would it ... Show more content on

Citizens must be provided with notice, in writing, in order to be held accountable for abiding by the
rules. The example that Brody and Acker (2010) gave in our reading this week was a driver
exceeding the speed limit. If the driver had not traveled down that road before, it is possible that
they were unaware of the specific speed limit. Regardless, the officer has the ability to write a ticket
for the infraction. The driver has the ability to fight the ticket in court, thus providing them due
process.
Under due process, the fifth and fourteenth Amendments are ensuring that every individual is
afforded the opportunity that ensures that a citizen has the ability to have their procedural rights
intact. According to Williams (2010, p.415), due process is the most fundamental right afforded to a
person in the United States. Without it, citizens could be left at the mercy of unfair courts and vague
laws.
The fact remains that both due process and the vagueness doctrine are intertwined with one another.
Whether that is through not having particular laws posted, for the public to see, even if they are from
decades ago, to being afforded basic rights of due

Members of Congress Should Have Term Limits Essay
When the United States was founded, the theme behind the new government was to establish an
efficient system without doling out too much power to any one person. The Founders intended to
prevent a rebirth of tyranny, which they had just escaped by breaking away from England. However,
when members of Congress such as Tom Foley, who served as a Representative from 1964 through
1995, and Jack Brooks, who served as a Representative from 1952 through 1994, remain in the
legislative system for over forty years, it is evident that tyranny has not necessarily been eradicated
from the United States (Vance, 1994, p. 429). Term limits are a necessity to uphold the Founders'
intentions, to prevent unfair advantages given to incumbents, and to ... Show more content on

Today, career politicians are constantly looking for what will aid them in getting reelected. They
become more loyal to their campaign fund contributers than to the people whom they represent. This
increases the likelihood of having corrupted politicians in office, as they use the government as a
vehicle to further their own career (Kurfirst, 1996, p. 123, 129). George Will, a well–known political
journalist, was quoted as saying "[The] worst feature of professionalism in politics is that it
obliterates the proper distance between the representatives and the represented" (Kurfirst, 1996, p.
125). Even James Madison agreed that legislators were meant to represent the people, not hold
office as a career. In The Federalist No. 57 (1788), he wrote, "From this change of men must

new faces in Congress today symbolizes that the American legislative branch is straying from its
intended purpose. While both houses were intended to have new members regularly with each
election, the House of Representatives was especially supposed to change. James Madison wrote, in

The Limits Of Scientific Limits
Deciding Ethicacy: The Limits to Scientific Limits Since the ideology that technological
advancements impact the type of identity that individuals present, a majority of breakthrough
research tends to draw towards a negative connotation. With direct correlation, Patrick Guinan,
whom is a professor at the University of Missouri, discusses new technological ideas that are in
research. He discusses whether or not advances in technology are ethically correct or if the results
are unethical and god–like. Thus, the cases presented in Patrick Guinan's work "Bioterrorism,
Embryonic Stem Cells, and Frankenstein", which is published in the Journal of Religion and Health
for psychological and medical research, "Bioterrorism, Embryonic Stem Cells, and Frankenstein".
Consequently, an overwhelming majority of individuals believe that scientists should be forbade to
perform experiments that "play god" in order to ease their curiosity. Furthermore, the issue is
derived from a conflict of ethos; thus, Guinan believes in stronger regulations toward unethical
experiments such as cloning and stem cell research. With the intention of playing god, scientists
attempt to manipulate certain pathogens that are directed toward a specific people. In an attempt at
ethically swaying his audience, Professor Guinan discusses the idea that a "super–germ attack that
would make the anthrax episode pale in comparison" (Guinan, 305). A super–germ is a genetically
altered germ that could be used to cause

Limits Of Freedom Of Speech
Freedom of speech allows students to express how they feel. Freedom of speech in schools is
monitored through technology as well as what people say and do. What if students could show up to
school promoting foul and offensive language or not following rules? When freedom of speech is
not limited, the behavior of kids worsens. Freedom of speech in schools should be limited because it
helps with respect, it teaches students to think before speaking, and it shows students that their
reputation matters. Respect is one of the most important life lessons. When freedom of speech is
limited, the amount of respect of students increases. "Backup quarterback Gyree Durante was
dismissed from the team for kneeling during the national anthem." (O'Laughlin) This is important
because the fact that a very important part of the football team, quarterback, was released shows that
students' "free" actions have consequences when they are disrespectful. "I think it's distasteful and
disrespectful and I don't agree with it at all." (O'Laughlin) Plenty of people in the united states think
that kneeling during the national anthem is acceptable. They believe that it is not disrespectful.
However, Many people in the united states would agree that kneeling during the national anthem
shows disrespect. If the action did not happen, the player would not have been released, and he
would have been taught to be more respectful with his freedom of speech. When freedom of speech
is limited, it teaches

Speed Limits, Road Conditions And Driving Habits
How and why has speed become the number one cause of death to our children and a contributing
factor for many of our older citizens? Speed has become such an epidemic among our teenagers that
government agencies such as the Center for Disease Control (CDC) now publish records and
statistics yearly. During the course of this paper we will review accident statistics, speed limits, road
conditions and driving habits which are the leading causes of speeding. Even though speed is not the
main factor for vehicle fatalities, speed is dangerous resulting in accidents and influencing many
fatalities. Additionally, the information provided will examine some of the tools provided by law
enforcement and the policies of many insurance companies today to help deter speeders and prevent
automotive fatalities.
Today in the United States and in many other countries vehicle safety is paramount. In Fact, many
of the automotive manufacturers have spent countless hours trying to exercise immense detail to
vehicle safety, and the development to safety devices such as air bags, crumple zones, and frame and
body technology. Fortunately, for drivers, these manufacturers have created real life accident
scenarios which cover everything from rollovers, to frontal impacts, side impacts, and rear impacts.
However, these manufacturers have yet to figure out how to create safety devices that can reduce
speed related accidents, and fatalities. Ultimately, many of the vehicles built by the automotive

Vygotsky 's Theory Of The Zone Of Proximal Development
In chapter 9 of the textbook "Children" by John Santrock, Vygotsky's theory of the zone of proximal
development was discussed. The zone of proximal development is the space in which learning is
accomplished. Within this zone, you are taking into account the skills that children can complete by
themselves and also the skills that they would have the ability to complete with some help. With the
zone of proximal development, you are looking at what a child can accomplish by them self, which
is called the lower limit. Along with looking at those skills, you are looking at what the child can
then accomplish with some help, which is called the upper limit. According to Vygotsky, the space
between the lower limit and the upper limit is where the most beneficial learning for that child takes
place. When the learning is occurring the lower and upper limits will move to allow for the newly
learned material, this movement is called scaffolding.
In order to learn about putting the theory of the zone of proximal development into practice, I went
to the Wegmans Playground on the 16th of October at 2:00 pm to observe children learning in this
environment. I observed a Caucasian female, about three and a half feet tall. She was wearing clean
clothing and accompanied by a woman. The girl was smiling and running around and talking with
the woman who had accompanied her. When she attempted to go up on the monkey bars by herself,
she was able to get up to the bar and hold on but was unable to

Would Lowering the Speed Limits on Highwasy Actually Make...
Would lowering the speed limits on highways actually make driving on them safer?
I never really gave much thought about how much speed limits can affect safety. Growing up, it was
drummed into my head that speed kills. It wasn't until I moved to Germany that I was able to even
challenge the phrase "speed kills". Being able to drive at any speed I want on the Autobahn has
produced thoughts that completely destroy the phrase "speed kills". So... Would lowering the speed
limits on highways actually make driving on them safer?
If you were to ask a medical doctor that question, I'm sure the answer would be yes. The higher the
speed a vehicle is traveling at, the more damage its energy may cause. According to LLLL, The
medical community has been trying to lower the frequency and severity of crashes for years. Dr.
Haddon, and others in his field, says that speed is a two–pronged aggravator of human harm on
roads. "The higher a vehicle's travel speed, the greater its likelihood of becoming involved in a
crash; the higher the impact speed when a crash occurs, the more severe the injuries". The medical
community isn't the only group of professionals that stand behind lower speed limits on our
highways. There are several other groups that want speeds lowered for reasons that have less to do
with our safety.
Insurance companies, police agencies, state transportation departments, and national safety
organizations would have us believe that speed limits are a critical

It's Time to Abolish Speed Limits Essay
It's Time to Abolish Speed Limits
It is 8:45 and Paul has just gotten on the interstate to make his normal commute to Longview from
Tyler. About halfway there, Paul notices a state trooper right behind him. He frantically checks his
speed! Too late!!!!!! The state trooper turns on his lights. Not only was Paul speeding, but now he
will be late to a very important meeting at work.
The problem here is that Paul was just driving to work. He was not intentionally speeding just to get
away with it. Neither was he driving reckless. He was just carrying on with his life. Every day
people go through this very scenario. They are ticketed for driving safely although faster than the
speed limit, and minding their own business. The freeways ... Show more content on

First of all, have you ever noticed that if you travel on Interstate 45 or on Interstate 20 for a long
enough distance that there is always construction dealing with the resurfacing or complete
revamping of the roadway. Have you ever wondered why they are working on the road or thought
that it was just another government scam to cost the taxpayers more money? The common thought
asserted here is that higher speeds create more wear and tear on the roadways. Another factor of
speeding is damage inflicted on cars while drivers are driving fast. This side asserts that the faster
the car runs, the harder the engine works; the harder the engine, works the more wear the car takes.
This may have been true with automobiles made several years ago, but the cars and trucks
manufactured today are quality automobiles. They are tested very rigorously in order to withstand
wear and tear. Second, the government would also like us to believe that driving high speeds causes
more deaths than driving slowly. According to the Transportation Accident Commission, "Last year
Victoria recorded its worst road toll in a decade, with speed being the main cause of fatalities (36%)
and serious injury (33%)." (Transport Accident Commission) This group is asserting that a person
speeding is more likely to cause death than a person not speeding. According to P.E. Spitz:

Term Limits
Living in the present and looking back at the past, we as citizens see what has worked and what can
be improved; Congress is a good example of this. Some may say that Congress is a failure and some
may be happy and proud of the way it functions and runs our country. For those who do not approve
of it, the idea is to start fresh and get new ideas, people and habits into office. With the way
Congress works today, that may not be the easiest tasks. In order to make changes in Congress, time
is needed; a significant change cannot be made over night and expect it to run smoothly. One of the
ways to bring change and settle the debate of whether or not to 'restart Congress' is to set term limits
on congressional members. There should be term ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pork–barrel spending, special interest of their own state, and how can they make themselves look
good are thing that will be on their mind at some point. Setting term limits would allow Congress to
become more of a "citizen" Congress because more everyday people, not just the wealthy, would be
running for office (balancedpolitics.org). New Politian's would not have time to find loop holes or
exploit the system because they would be focusing on what they need to get done in order to make
their constituents happy. One of the major benefits to term limits is the potential for new ideas
rolling through Congress, and Politian's with a more focused mind set. The founding fathers did
their part of making sure no one person is given too much power by ensuring that the United States
has checks and balances. The 22nd Amendment has contributed to the checks and balances by
limiting presidents to two terms in office. Term limits should also be in place for congressional
members. This may be another way to ensure no congressional member ever has too much power
within the government. Candidates would be running for the purpose to the serve people and not to
just benefit themselves. Term limits would also stop the political reward and power abuse within
Congress, leading to committees being assigned to individuals based on merit and their expertise to
make informed decisions. Doing all

Examples Of If I Were Me Essay
IF I WERE ME
Have you heard the story of the eagle and the crow? In the streets of greater town there lived an
eagle and a crow, they were best friends and used to spend most of the time together, One day the
eagle fell ill and requested the crow to take care of the baby eagle, crow being the best friend
promised the eagle that she will take care of the baby eagle, So the time passed by, the eagle died
and the baby eagle grew in the same nest with crows. An eagle for your knowledge flies very high
and very fast while crows flies low and slow, by nature eagle is fearless while crows lives their
entire life in fear. As the baby eagle grew big it learned to fly like a crow, it feared flying high and
never took a big leap, and it lived its entire life like a crow and died one day.
The moral is simple, we live the life we learn to live and not the one we are capable of living, Ask a
child what he wants to do in his life and you will be amazed by his imagination and then meet him
25 years hence and he will be living a life entirely different from what he thought he would in his
childhood, Napoleon Hill the father of motivation and author of the best seller 'Think and Grow

Limits On Writing
Limits. Everybody has a limit, but in most cases we can push past our limits and improve ourselves
even further. However, writing is boundless and board so a limit on writing isn't necessary a terrible
thing. It is when limits are done wrong is where people, mainly students, begin to hate writing
essays, lab reports, etc. My writing style has mainly developed into three branches for adapting to
limits: a branch that conforms to the limits they want you to do in essays, a branch for writing the
limits of reports and research papers, and a branch for writing for fun and for free–writes which
necessarily have no limits. The branch that conforms to the limits of essays is the branch that I hate
about my writing process and writing in general. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is rare to find people who love to write reports and research papers whether it being about math
and science or a topic related to their job. I, for one, love to do both as it allows me to learn things I
haven't get and because it brings me to my second branch. I love to do both because it requires to do
less thinking in a way. Every part of the paper is in the research and all the writer has to do is put it
into the paper. However, limits, again, make the process of writing them inane as people want long
lengths sometimes even past ten pages. This makes me add fluff to my research paper which just
distracts from the facts and research. To me research papers and reports need to be concise and get
straight to the facts that were found in the research. Adding page limits just makes the piece of
writing have fluff that doesn't need to be there. Topics also can make it pain to write as different
topics can have different amount of research. This is the main reason I hated writing a research
paper for Long Day's Journey Into Night by Eugene O'Neill. I had to relate the play to the author's
life which was easy, but it lacked a lot of information to fit nine to ten essay. Overall, I had to add a
lot to fluff to reach nine to ten pages which resulted in the teacher asking why everybody why it
wasn't concise. Limits always seem to me what was dragging the fun out of writing and which is
why I love to write freestyle. The third

Essay On Family House Sales
Introduction New one family house sales from January 1975 through October 2017 has certainly
been a roller coaster ride. Unfortunately, the anticipation of climbing that giant hill and the
exhilaration of flying down the other side with the occupant's hands in the air on a roller coaster
does not possess the same sentiment when it comes to forecasting new one family house sales.
While watching the numbers climb is exciting for economists, the downward decline in sales causes
forecasters, economists and the market to throw their hands up in the air while screaming; What
went wrong? A plethora of causal factors play a role in the incline or decline of the housing market.

ACF/Trend/Seasonality To determine which forecast model would best fit the NHS data, we must
examine several items: correlation of the data, existence or absence of trend and/or seasonality and
stationarity of data. Autocorrelation is the examination of the correlation of data between successive
observations over time (Wilson, Keating, & John Galt Solutions, 2009, p. 84). Figure 2 shows the
autocorrelation factor (ACF) for the NHS data set. Because all the data is above the upper limit line,
there appears to be a positive trend present for the 12–month forecast. Upon further examination, the
ACF does not quickly fall to zero confirming a significant presence of trend. Seasonality can be
assumed by looking at the sharp up and down movement of the data in figure 1. The data is
considered stationary if the ACF is mainly contained within the upper and lower bounds as illustrate

Music Therapy Reflection
In these last few classes were have talked about dibs, gone over some limit setting, and have music
therapists come to the class. I was really interested in hearing about music therapy because I
honestly did not know anything about it before our guest speakers came in. I was excited to see what
it entailed, and was interested in the audience that they worked with. But when they introduced
themselves I quickly became upset when one of the speakers started talking about the dying children
she worked with. I feel like we should have had a warning that she was going to talk about how she
worked with dying children on a song for their funeral because that was too heartbreaking to handle,
especially for someone who has had a very sick younger cousin who has spent large time spans in
the hospital and have had life threatening complications. On a lighter note, we talked about limit
setting in class and I did find it interesting the rule and regulations that came along with limit
setting. I enjoyed the statement "A limit is not needed, until it is needed," because it still allows the
autonomy of the children choosing things while still protecting yourself in situations that are
deemed necessary. I did find it surprising when it was mentioned that some children can spend
entire classes setting limits and making choices on what to do once a limit is not respected. I also
like that we talked about how consistency is key, because that is applicable anywhere in a child's
life, they need consistency in their life to a certain point in order to be well functioning. One of the
reading that we did was a print out combination of powerpoint's and worksheets for limit setting.
One new thing that I learned was the ACT of limit setting, Acknowledge, Communication, and
Target. In this the therapist is expected to acknowledging the child's feelings, State or define the
limit, and then provide an alternative for the child. This made it very clear and helpful to understand
how to set a limit in an appropriate and not in an imaginative limiting way. You acknowledge their
feelings and provide them with an alternative to the behavior that you have deemed unsafe,
destructive, etc. I like this because I have tried something like this in

Vygotsky's Sociocultural Theory and Hong Kong
Vygotsky's sociocultural theory focused on the affect of the surroundings, namely the culture, peers,
and adults, on the developing child. Vygotsky proposed the "zone of proximal development" (ZPD)
to explain the influence of the cultural context. ZPD refers to the range of tasks which a child cannot
finish alone since they are too difficult, but such tasks can be completed with guidance and aid from
more–skilled individuals. The lower limit of ZPD is the level of skill that the children can reach
alone, and the upper limit of ZPD is the level of skill that the children can reach with guidance from
a more skilled individual, such as teachers, parents and more–skilled peers. Imagine a child is
having difficulty writing book reports. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This results in schools focusing on instructing knowledge to students like feeding chickens in a farm
and doesn't really care whether the students understand the knowledge instructed or not. This exam–
oriented style of education ignores the students' development as a whole, and generates many
graduates with good grades in school and struggled in workplace. The old educational style of Hong
Kong seems not to fit with Vygotsky's theory.
Nowadays, the emphasis of education in Hong Kong seems to be starting to shift from instructing
knowledge to assisting students to construct knowledge. As teachers will not only instruct
knowledges, but also guides students in finishing tasks such as laboratory exercises and group
projects. This implies the ZPD as teachers will now try to dig students' potential and help students to
reach them. Peer mentors are also very common in secondary schools nowadays. Senior form
students will volunteer or be recruited by teachers to assist junior form students to finish
assignments or group projects. Cross–age mentoring is more common than same–age mentoring.
Same–age mentoring will only occur in class, as students with better understanding on the subject
will help explain the concepts to other students and assist them in finishing in–class assignments.
The peer mentors are suggested to adjust the amount of guidance according to the progress of the
tutees. This implies the scaffolding concept and that culture is

A Brief Note On The Semi Rings 5
ON BORNOLOGICAL SEMI RINGS 5
Theorem 3.8. Let (A; β) be a bornological semi ring and f : A ! C be an epimorphism of semi rings.
Then βf = fB ⊂ C : f −1(B) 2 βg is a semi ring bornology on C:
Proof. Let B1; B2 2 βf: Then there exist B1 A; B2 A 2 β such that f(B1 A) = B1 and f(B2 A) = B2 so
f(B1 A + B2 A) = f(B1 A) + f(B2 A) = B1 + B2 and f(B1 A · B2 A) = f(B1 A) · f(B2 A) = B1 · B2,
therefore βf is a semi ring bornology on C.
Proposition 3.9. Let (A; βi)i2I be a collection of a bornological semi ring, then i2Iβi is a semi ring
bornology on A.
Proof. It is known that β = Ti2I βiis a bornology, we must show that it also is a semi ring bornology.
Let B1; B2 2 β, then B1; B2 2 βi for any i 2 I, hence B1 + B2 2 βi and
B1 · B2 2 βi since βi are semi rings bornology. Therefore B1 + B2 2 β and B1 · B2 2 β,
i.e., the additive and multiplication operation are bounded.
A morphism of bornological semi rings : (A; βA) ! (C; βC) is defined to be a bounded semi ring
homomorphism if the image under of every bounded subsemi ring of A is bounded. It is clear that
the composition of two bounded semi rings homomorphisms is bounded, so we can define the
category of bornological semi rings denote
Born(SRings), with objects bornological semi rings and arrows bounded semi ring homomorphisms.
The category of bornological semi ring admits limits, colimits with the following description. Let
(Ai; βi)i2I be a family of bornological semi rings, then the direct product

Many people think that with term limits we would lose experience, maturity, and knowledge of the
workings of Congress. However, this is not correct. The workings of Congress need not be nearly so
complex as careerists would have us think. However, great pains have been exerted to give us that
impression. A term–limited Congress could get the nation's business accomplished in a fraction of
the time that it takes now, with all the posturing, posing, ego trips and headline–grabbing. And a
term–limited Congress could streamline all the procedures. As for experience we would be better off
without some of it. What is needed is experience in the real world life experiences from new blood,
with fresh ideas. With term limits, congressional staff people would gain control, is another widely
used argument against term limits. The fallacy of that argument is that the staff people already have
control. Through the years, Congress has abdicated it to them. Committee staffs write the
legislation, and members' staffs read it, then tell members what's in it. Members themselves rarely
read what they vote on. In a country where ignorance of the law is no excuse, members of Congress
are often ignorant of many of the provisions of laws they vote on. Congress and its members could
regain control from the staffs right now, if they had the will. They don't have the will. A term limited
Congress that had the will could get control of the staffs in a very short period of

Speed Limits And Speed Limit Setting Practices
Contrary to popular belief, slower speed limits that are set by politicians that have no knowledge of
road engineering, and don't listen to city engineers, creates a dangerous environment were drivers
are more likely to speed and create risk. Around two months ago, the Victoria council unanimously
approved of the proposal to lower speed limits on many active streets such as Cook Street,
Blanchard Street, Richmond Street, as well as many others. However, these changes have been
opposed by the city engineers and seem to go against the ministry of transportations Review and
Analysis of Posted Speed Limits and Speed Limit Setting Practices in British Columbia. In
addition, research in the United States has shown an increase in speed limits, where appropriate,
reduces speeding and does not increase the amount of crashes. Furthermore, on the case of
highways, if we take examples from Germany's autobahn fatality rate and contrast it with our
highway we see a dramatic difference. Moreover, instead of spending money and replacing the signs
entirely, our city should instead deposit more money is road safety equipment. Our politicians
should listen more to the professionals, city engineers, rather than making absurd speed limits that
do not reflect the speeds that drivers deem acceptable. In 2014, the Victoria city council decided to
lower speed limits on streets in the downtown core, some notable mentions being Quadra Street,
Richmond, and many others. These streets are being

Optimum Cash Model (i) Baumol Model. (ii) Miller – Orr Model. (iii) Stone Model. (iv) Orgler
Model.
Baumol Model. Was presented to the World by M J Bamoul in his work – the Transaction Demand
for Cash Inventory theoretic Approach in the year 1952.
Assumptions:
1. Cash needs are known in advance. 2. Expenses are incurred evenly, 3. Cash needs can be met by
liquidating investments, 4. Liquidation of investment involved holding cost transaction cost, 5.
The cost are fixed irrespective of amount liquidated. Symbolically the conversion cost period is
obtained by the following formula. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Assumptions.
Assumption in Miller Orr Model;
1. There are two costs–holding cost conversion cost. Conversion cost are fixed irrespective of size
of conversion.
2. Cash inflows outflows are random as they form a normal distribution.
Miller–Orr Model
–Target Cash Balance (Z)
Z =√(3(3)*TC*V) ÷(4*r)+LL
Where: TC = Transaction cost of buying or selling securities V = variance of daily cash flows R =
daily return on short term investment LL = minimum cash requirement
The Miller – Orr Model Upper Limit The Upper Limit for the cash account (11) is determined by the
equation:
H = 3Z – 2L
Where:
Z = Target Cash Balance
L = Lower

1. What control charts should be used to determine whether the process is in control or out of
control?
We should use x–Charts and R–Charts to determine whether the process is in control or out of
control. X–Charts are usually used when we know standard deviation of the sample. We calculate
the upper and lower control limits based on that data. For this data, we assumed the standard
deviation as 3 and we found the upper and lower limits for each day's shifts.
According to Monday Shift 1 (00:00 to 08:00), the lower limit is 69.23 hence the numbers that are
below 69.23, are becoming out of control. And the upper limit is 71.91, so the numbers which are
above 71.91, become out of control due ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shift 2 from 08:00 to 16:00, the upper control limit is 71.24 and the lower control limit is 68.55.
Shift 3 from 16:00 to 00:00, the upper control limit is 71.05 and 68.37. The best shift in terms of
productivity is shift 3 from 16:00 to 00:00.
Finally, for Wednesday the best shift is from 16:00 to 00:00. Because the customers expect the bags
that are closest to the specific mean 70. For R– Charts, we assumed mean as 70 and found the upper
and lower control limits for each days.
For Monday shift 2, from 08:00 to 16:00, it seems more profitable when we considered with the
other shifts on Monday. The upper and lower control limits are 4879 and 4865 pounds. Furthermore,
for Tuesday, as same as Monday shift 2, from 08:00 to 16:00 is more suitable than other shifts for
customers. We calculated the upper and lower control limits as 4942 and 4900 pounds. For the last
shift, the best and more productive hours are from 16:00 to 00:00 and the upper and lower limits are
found as 4977 and 4900 pounds.
3. Cecil rice export is planning on providing incentives for senior personnel to rotate into other
shifts to better mix personnel among the shifts. If the same control charts were used for all three
shifts, what would be the control limits of these charts?
Each shift in each day, the productivity hours change according to the personals and seniors. In

Highway Speed Limits Debate

  • 1. Speed Limit Should Highway Speed Limits Be Increased? Should highway speed limits be increased? Should we strike down every sign that the government posts and uses to regulate the speed limit on the thousands of highways around the country? Should we trust the driving ability of each and every person to drive within a reasonably safe speed? The response that most people lean toward is one of negativity. People automatically assume that the speeds presently posted on our highways are there only for our own protection. People do not believe that the government is knowingly implementing speed limits that are below a safe speed for a given roadway. It is true that the government claims to set speed limits that are for the public well being. As ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result of this speed increase safety advocates claim that there was a nation wide increase on fatalities. However the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety found otherwise. Their reports show that there was an increase in the nation's fatalities but the states that chose to increase their speed experienced a 3.5 % less of a fatality increase. (Shemmens) Recently, The United States Department of transportation has done a study that will disprove the notion that fatalities vary with speed even further. When Congress repealed the NMLS law on December 8, 1995, many critics immediately claimed that more fatalities would result. Ralph Nader and various other critics estimated that passing the bill would cause at least 6400 more deaths than when the speed limit was set at 55 miles per hour nationally (Shemmens). Although the actual result was an increase in deaths, the increase was marginal compared to estimates. The actual death increase was only 109 lives. The human lives lost are valuable but it is important to note the actual deaths per–one hundred million miles had decrease for 1995 to 1996. The percentage of miles traveled was up 1.7 percent while fatalities only increased 0.3 percent for the year (Johnson). After the new speed limits were placed on the 26 different states which decided to increase their speed limits, there was a surprising change. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A mayor decides where a building is built, fill out paperwork, and go to public things.Council bluffs needs a good mayor to run the city. As mayor, I would let more animals into the city limits, I would make the farmers grow organic food only, I would keep the city the same size. As soon as I become your mayor I would, let more animals in the city limits. If we let more animals in the city, some people might come to live here because they can have farm animals in the city limits. If we let more animals in the city limits, some of the kids what to live on a farm, then some people can live in the city and have a small yard and there will be more room in the city for people. This would benefit Council Bluffs by, there will be people that like the idea and move to Council Bluffs. Some of the kids that are lonely will have someone to play with if they are allergic to cats and dogs. They might be lonely because there parents are always at work. If everyone keeps on expanding the city's, then there will be no food. If there was no farmland, then the farmers will lose their jobs. Not all of the land is farmland. Some of the land that is out in the country is timbers. If we keep on expanding the city, there will be less trees. We need trees to live. We need the oxygen that trees breathe out, because they do not need a lot of oxygen. Trees also clean the air. • 9. External Factors ( Or External Environment ) Case Study External Factors (or External Environment) During the 1970s and 1980s, the Republic of Korea achieved exceptional economic development. However, the government focused on regional development rather than infrastructure development (Hine & Chelliah, 2009). Therefore, the rate of infrastructure investment had been decreasing in the 1980s in particular, which drove a lot of traffic bottlenecks in many regions, and high traffic congestion costs in roads, railways, and seaports. At the beginning of the 1990s, the government acknowledged the limits to fund the needed construction of infrastructure facilities and felt the need to mobilize new sources to invest infrastructure (Kim et al., 2011). To promote the PPP program as a new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The government modified this law again in January 2005. The revised Act established a specialized agency ("Public–Private Infrastructure Investment Management Center") to provide technical assistance to the Ministry of Strategy and Finance and procuring authorities. Also, the MRG was amended due to excessive demand. In October 2009, the MRG program ended, and was replaced by the support measurement of compensation of base cost, under which the government shares investment risks within the limit of the government's cost, if the project was conducted as a public project. Therefore, the changes in toll road PPP projects characteristics can be divided as shown in Table 2 (Hine & Chelliah, 2009; Kim et al., 2011). Current Status of PPP highways The first PPP highway is the Incheon International Airport Expressway completed in November 2000. As of 2015, there are 24 PPP highways in Korea, and 10 of them are operating, 8 projects are under construction, 3 of them are in the planning stage and the remaining 3 projects are under discussion. The total investment cost for 24 routes is 41.2 trillion won. The ratio of PPP highways continuously increased after 2000, and the PPP highways account for 11% (460km) of the total Korean national highways (4,139km) as of 2015. On the other hand, the PPP projects were developed as solicited PPP projects, but since 2005, projects were in progress by unsolicited projects. The Problem of Risk Sharing: Minimum Revenue ... While not dealing with pressures public companies face in terms of financials, there are parallels that can be drawn to how IT practices are done. Information Technology, as well as in many other professions, there is always the constant pressure to meet objectives quickly as possible to meet internal and external customer demands. In these moments opportunities present themselves to make the shortcuts in those tasks to not meet your responsibilities. • 17. Motor Vehicles and Speed Limits in the United States Since the first gasoline powered vehicle was invented, automobile technology has advanced at a rapid pace to bring us faster, safer vehicles (Managing Speed). Roads have improved from dirt and gravel to asphalt and concrete, and the number of vehicles on the road has increased exponentially. The motor vehicle has become the backbone of today's society. Speed limits in the United States are at the highest they have ever been, yet vehicles today are powerful enough to easily exceed those posted speed limits. There are two very different groups of people advocating for what a reasonable speed limit is: a group lobbying for extreme safety and a group lobbying for faster travel times. Driving is an inherently risky undertaking no matter what the speed limit is, thus a compromise is tried to be met by increasing safety while allowing for practical travel times. There have been various methodologies theorized in setting speed limits, but which one is the best for today's technologies and environments? Speed limits in the state of Virginia are set using the Operating Speed Method. The Operating Speed method, or 85th percentile method, uses the speed that 85 percent of free flowing traffic is at or below. The 85th percentile method relies on driver judgment and collects the vast majority of motorists traveling on the roadway. If the speed limit was set 5 MPH below the 85th percentile speed, more than 50% of drivers would be illegally speeding, but if the speed limit was increased 5 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. The Limits of Identification The Limits of Identification Identities are prescriptive representations of every society's members themselves and of their relationship to each other. The "limits of identification", thus divide social prescription of identity into two categories, prescriptive accounts of members themselves which is their personal identities, and behavioral prescriptions for the proper enactment of these identities which is society's norms or behavioral norms that require individual's to be identified and act in certain ways. In the three passages, "Selections from reading Lolita in Tehran," by Azar Nafisi, "On Becoming an Arab," by Leila Ahmed; "Selections from Losing Matt Sheppard," by Beth Loffreda, the "limits of identification" are introduced based on gender, race, and sexuality as main factors used to classify the characters in the readings and pose their identity which led to prejudice, discrimination, and limit their lives based on general stereotypes. "Limits of identification," therefore are general ideas used to distinguish individuals who are different in some ways from the rest of society, because they belong to a certain gender, race, or act in certain ways that is different from the set of social norms. According to Ahmed, Nafisi, and Matt's life experience, hence, the potential "limits of identification", are their societies' norms and beliefs that are reinforced on them. These norms and beliefs allow every society and every individual to marginalize these characters based ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. Speed Limits Of The Transport Industry Speed limit in the transport industry is not a new phenomenon, and they are laws and by laws that limit the speed of vehicles at a specific stretch of roads. Majority of countries around the world have speed limits on all roads or on specific roads. Moreover, majority of the speed limit rules apply in populous areas such as urban centers and residential areas. Other speed limits might also apply in some regions with higher population of animals along the roads. Road signs are used to indicate speed limits. In some cases, the speed limit law or by laws is not strict (Lund, 2007). There are many reasons why speed limits can be necessary in Halifax region, and there are many reasons why it makes sense to implement speed limits is because they have worked in other cities and nations. Otherwise, the most important impact is the significant reduction in road accident as a result of speed limits. Speed limits have existed since the steam engine error in the 19th century where the United Kingdom set the maximum speed at 10 kilometers per hour. However, it is important to note that the reasoning behind the speed limit could have been different from the modern speed limits reasoning. In the 19th century, technology advancement in the transport industry was at infant stages, therefore, the lawmaker could not image a huge machine traveling at a relatively high speed. This means that a speed of 10 kilometer per hour could be a low speed when modern technology is considered, but could be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The highest speed limit in Malaysia is 110 km/h. There are very few public roads have no speed limit. In other country, there are some roads that have minimum speed limits, where slow speeds are considered to impede traffic or be dangerous. National Speed Limits is a set of speed limits applicable on Malaysian expressways, federal roads, state roads and municipal roads. Like any other countries in the world, failing to obey the speed limits on Malaysian roads and expressways is an offence as subject to Malaysian Road Safety Act 1987. The government agency that responsible about the road speed limits at Malaysia was Jabatan Kerja Raya Malaysia (JKR) under their road department. Running late has always been a problem for people, whether it is for work or a doctor's appointment, but will the benefit of arriving to a destination two or three minutes faster be worth the number of lives that could be killed or seriously injured? Of course not. The proposed increase of the speed limit in the state of Michigan going from 70 to 80 MPH or in some cases going from 55 to 80 MPH has brought up discussions which experts say increasing the speed limit will only cause more accidents. Reporter Roop Raj uses a policy statement to argue that the speed limit should not be increased to 80 MPH. Allowing the speed limit to increase to 80 MPH will only make drivers speed more. The first piece of ground is the author's assertion that raising the speed limit will make people drive even faster. According to auto attorney Steve Gursten, cell phone use is present all the time and talking about increasing the speed limit is easier said than done. Increasing the speed limit at the same time that distraction in cars is greater than it has ever been before could cause even bigger problems. For example, texting while driving makes a person 23 times more likely to crash. (National Hwy Transportation Safety Administration). So if drivers are already distracted, there should be no need to increase the speed limit to increase danger on the road. One warrant for this piece of ground is that drivers have a need for speed, so imagine people going close to 90 MPH on the highway. People ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. A Limit For Their Own Good Milagro Ascencio Mrs. Mary Jo Loftin English 3 8th August 2017 A Limit for Their Own Good Whether we are aware of it or not, technology has become a normal part of our lives nowadays. No matter where we go, technology will be present, from mobile devices to more complicated creations, and all generations are exposed to them, specially the younger ones. This young generation spends a great deal of time in front the screens of these technologic devices. Which is why parents should limit the amount of time children under 12 use technology since it does not let them develop certain abilities, it limits them from having real–life interactions, and it might cause children health problems too (Summers). Many kids were born in the 'Digital Era' therefore, they are surrounded by technology and screens most of the time, mostly at home, but too much exposure to this can affect their abilities. According to a Research made by the University of California, Los Angeles, kids who spent time away from looking at screens were better at recognizing human emotions than kids who kept living their lives with technology around them (Wolpert). This show us, how replacing real–life interactions for screen–time not only isolates children but also makes them unable to develop this kind of skill, skills that are important in the real life and are likely to be needed in the future. Besides that, kids who invest most of their time on staring at screens can be faced by health problems in the long run. As reported by some researchers, this health problems range "from childhood obesity and irregular sleep patterns to social and/or behavioral issues." (Summers). Therefore, considering all these negative effects on children, parents should be more cautious regarding how much time their kids use technology and expose themselves to screens and digital media. Some parents might argue, however, that kids do not necessarily waste their time with technology and actually utilize it for educational purposes such as "researching a school project, creating music or art, or interacting with friends via social media."(Elana). Parents might believe that this is reason acceptable enough to let them control it as much as they need to. They are partially ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Freedom means we are free and able to do whatever we desire. We do have freedom as of now, but it is limited. We have rules and laws in place that are meant to be followed. They are here to protect the well being of everyone and thing. These laws are not necessarily bad but it just doesn't allow full freedom to come forth. There are some laws that have been revoked because we realized they were just plain wrong or it put too much restraint on freedom. Why can't we work together when we all bettered ourselves. The reason is because we all improved on ourselves but we did in different ways. We improved in our own beliefs and ideas. The only thing we can do is accept that we will never have peace between everybody. The freedom we have is still limited by peace. The socio–cultural cognitive theory of Lev Vygotsky emphasizes children's cognitive development cannot be understood apart from cultural settings, and social interactions and activities shape their ways to construct knowledge (Jahoda, Dagnan, Stenfert Kroese, Pert, & Trower, 2009; Santrock, Mackenzie–Rivers, & Pangman, 2017; Woolfolk, Winne, & Perry, 2016). The notion of the zone of proximal development (ZPD) is a well–known concept of his theoretical framework (Santrock, Mackenzie–Rivers, & Pangman, 2017; Woolfolk, Winne, & Perry, 2016; Ylvisaker & Feeney, 2009). In the follow paragraphs, I will brief explain this concept, clarify how it closely relates to individual daily life, and discuss the limit of this notion with reflect on my personal experience. Vygotsky's concept of ZPD refers to the range of difficulties which children are unable to master alone, but they could solve independently if adults or more mature peers provide the appropriate support (Jahoda, Dagnan, Stenfert Kroese, Pert, & Trower, 2009; Santrock, Mackenzie–Rivers, & Pangman, 2017; Woolfolk, Winne, & Perry, 2016). In teaching, the ZPD typifies the theoretical space between what students already knew and what students are not ready to learn (Santrock, Mackenzie–Rivers, & Pangman, 2017; Woolfolk, Winne, & Perry, 2016). Two borders of this space are represented as the lower limit of ZPD (e.g. the difficulties which children are able to master alone, what students already knew), and the upper limit of ... Or maybe you do and you're the grandma driver that everyone is stuck behind in a no passing zone. Radars are gun like devices that is aimed at the car and a electromagnetic signal is pointed toward the target vehicle and they pick up the return signal reflected off the vehicle. Speed radar devices measure the frequency of the reflected signal and compare it with the frequency of the original signal to determine the speed of the target vehicle. Radar guns are highly reliable and accurate however it is extremely difficult to pinpoint one vehicle in heavy traffic, also some vehicles have radar detectors that tell where the radars are at so they do not get caught speeding. Lasers also known as LIDAR( Light detection and ranging), use a time/ distance calculation to measure speed. The device aims a narrowed band of light at the target vehicle and can measure the time it takes to reflect the light. These are better for heavy traffic because it can pinpoint a certain car. Can we have one without the other? If not, why? According to Brody and Acker (2010, p.28), citizens must be made aware of laws in order to abide by them. A person cannot be expected to abide by laws of society, if those laws have not been provided to the public. In the case of Lambert v. California (1958), a person who has been convicted of a felony cannot reside in the city of Los Angeles past five days without registering. Failure to do so, can and will result in additional charges. If the law was not posted, in plain sight, for all citizens to be able to see, would it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Citizens must be provided with notice, in writing, in order to be held accountable for abiding by the rules. The example that Brody and Acker (2010) gave in our reading this week was a driver exceeding the speed limit. If the driver had not traveled down that road before, it is possible that they were unaware of the specific speed limit. Regardless, the officer has the ability to write a ticket for the infraction. The driver has the ability to fight the ticket in court, thus providing them due process. Under due process, the fifth and fourteenth Amendments are ensuring that every individual is afforded the opportunity that ensures that a citizen has the ability to have their procedural rights intact. According to Williams (2010, p.415), due process is the most fundamental right afforded to a person in the United States. Without it, citizens could be left at the mercy of unfair courts and vague laws. The fact remains that both due process and the vagueness doctrine are intertwined with one another. Members of Congress Should Have Term Limits Essay When the United States was founded, the theme behind the new government was to establish an efficient system without doling out too much power to any one person. The Founders intended to prevent a rebirth of tyranny, which they had just escaped by breaking away from England. However, when members of Congress such as Tom Foley, who served as a Representative from 1964 through 1995, and Jack Brooks, who served as a Representative from 1952 through 1994, remain in the legislative system for over forty years, it is evident that tyranny has not necessarily been eradicated from the United States (Vance, 1994, p. 429). Today, career politicians are constantly looking for what will aid them in getting reelected. They become more loyal to their campaign fund contributers than to the people whom they represent. This increases the likelihood of having corrupted politicians in office, as they use the government as a vehicle to further their own career (Kurfirst, 1996, p. 123, 129). George Will, a well–known political journalist, was quoted as saying "[The] worst feature of professionalism in politics is that it obliterates the proper distance between the representatives and the represented" (Kurfirst, 1996, p. 125). Even James Madison agreed that legislators were meant to represent the people, not hold office as a career. In The Federalist No. 57 (1788), he wrote, "From this change of men must proceed a change of opinions; and from a change of opinions, a change of measures." The lack of new faces in Congress today symbolizes that the American legislative branch is straying from its intended purpose. While both houses were intended to have new members regularly with each election, the House of Representatives was especially supposed to change. The Limits Of Scientific Limits Deciding Ethicacy: The Limits to Scientific Limits Since the ideology that technological advancements impact the type of identity that individuals present, a majority of breakthrough research tends to draw towards a negative connotation. With direct correlation, Patrick Guinan, whom is a professor at the University of Missouri, discusses new technological ideas that are in research. He discusses whether or not advances in technology are ethically correct or if the results are unethical and god–like. Thus, the cases presented in Patrick Guinan's work "Bioterrorism, Embryonic Stem Cells, and Frankenstein", which is published in the Journal of Religion and Health for psychological and medical research, "Bioterrorism, Embryonic Stem Cells, and Frankenstein". Consequently, an overwhelming majority of individuals believe that scientists should be forbade to perform experiments that "play god" in order to ease their curiosity. Furthermore, the issue is derived from a conflict of ethos; thus, Guinan believes in stronger regulations toward unethical experiments such as cloning and stem cell research. With the intention of playing god, scientists attempt to manipulate certain pathogens that are directed toward a specific people. What if students could show up to school promoting foul and offensive language or not following rules? When freedom of speech is not limited, the behavior of kids worsens. Freedom of speech in schools should be limited because it helps with respect, it teaches students to think before speaking, and it shows students that their reputation matters. • 82. Speed Limits, Road Conditions And Driving Habits How and why has speed become the number one cause of death to our children and a contributing factor for many of our older citizens? Speed has become such an epidemic among our teenagers that government agencies such as the Center for Disease Control (CDC) now publish records and statistics yearly. During the course of this paper we will review accident statistics, speed limits, road conditions and driving habits which are the leading causes of speeding. Even though speed is not the main factor for vehicle fatalities, speed is dangerous resulting in accidents and influencing many fatalities. Additionally, the information provided will examine some of the tools provided by law enforcement and the policies of many insurance companies today to help deter speeders and prevent automotive fatalities. Today in the United States and in many other countries vehicle safety is paramount. In Fact, many of the automotive manufacturers have spent countless hours trying to exercise immense detail to vehicle safety, and the development to safety devices such as air bags, crumple zones, and frame and body technology. Fortunately, for drivers, these manufacturers have created real life accident scenarios which cover everything from rollovers, to frontal impacts, side impacts, and rear impacts. However, these manufacturers have yet to figure out how to create safety devices that can reduce speed related accidents, and fatalities. Ultimately, many of the vehicles built by the automotive ... • 86. Vygotsky 's Theory Of The Zone Of Proximal Development In chapter 9 of the textbook "Children" by John Santrock, Vygotsky's theory of the zone of proximal development was discussed. The zone of proximal development is the space in which learning is accomplished. Within this zone, you are taking into account the skills that children can complete by themselves and also the skills that they would have the ability to complete with some help. With the zone of proximal development, you are looking at what a child can accomplish by them self, which is called the lower limit. Along with looking at those skills, you are looking at what the child can then accomplish with some help, which is called the upper limit. According to Vygotsky, the space between the lower limit and the upper limit is where the most beneficial learning for that child takes place. When the learning is occurring the lower and upper limits will move to allow for the newly learned material, this movement is called scaffolding. In order to learn about putting the theory of the zone of proximal development into practice, I went to the Wegmans Playground on the 16th of October at 2:00 pm to observe children learning in this environment. I observed a Caucasian female, about three and a half feet tall. She was wearing clean clothing and accompanied by a woman. I never really gave much thought about how much speed limits can affect safety. Growing up, it was drummed into my head that speed kills. It wasn't until I moved to Germany that I was able to even challenge the phrase "speed kills". Being able to drive at any speed I want on the Autobahn has produced thoughts that completely destroy the phrase "speed kills". So... Would lowering the speed limits on highways actually make driving on them safer? If you were to ask a medical doctor that question, I'm sure the answer would be yes. The higher the speed a vehicle is traveling at, the more damage its energy may cause. According to LLLL, The medical community has been trying to lower the frequency and severity of crashes for years. Dr. Haddon, and others in his field, says that speed is a two–pronged aggravator of human harm on roads. "The higher a vehicle's travel speed, the greater its likelihood of becoming involved in a crash; the higher the impact speed when a crash occurs, the more severe the injuries". The medical community isn't the only group of professionals that stand behind lower speed limits on our highways. There are several other groups that want speeds lowered for reasons that have less to do with our safety. Have you ever wondered why they are working on the road or thought that it was just another government scam to cost the taxpayers more money? The common thought asserted here is that higher speeds create more wear and tear on the roadways. Another factor of speeding is damage inflicted on cars while drivers are driving fast. This side asserts that the faster the car runs, the harder the engine works; the harder the engine, works the more wear the car takes. This may have been true with automobiles made several years ago, but the cars and trucks manufactured today are quality automobiles. They are tested very rigorously in order to withstand wear and tear. Second, the government would also like us to believe that driving high speeds causes more deaths than driving slowly. An eagle for your knowledge flies very high and very fast while crows flies low and slow, by nature eagle is fearless while crows lives their entire life in fear. As the baby eagle grew big it learned to fly like a crow, it feared flying high and never took a big leap, and it lived its entire life like a crow and died one day. The moral is simple, we live the life we learn to live and not the one we are capable of living, Ask a child what he wants to do in his life and you will be amazed by his imagination and then meet him 25 years hence and he will be living a life entirely different from what he thought he would in his childhood, Napoleon Hill the father of motivation and author of the best seller 'Think and Grow Rich' says that all limitations are set in mind, if we can free our mind from the limitations we can free our self to live a life we are capable of living. • 106. Limits On Writing Limits. Everybody has a limit, but in most cases we can push past our limits and improve ourselves even further. However, writing is boundless and board so a limit on writing isn't necessary a terrible thing. It is when limits are done wrong is where people, mainly students, begin to hate writing essays, lab reports, etc. My writing style has mainly developed into three branches for adapting to limits: a branch that conforms to the limits they want you to do in essays, a branch for writing the limits of reports and research papers, and a branch for writing for fun and for free–writes which necessarily have no limits. The branch that conforms to the limits of essays is the branch that I hate about my writing process and writing in general. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is rare to find people who love to write reports and research papers whether it being about math and science or a topic related to their job. I, for one, love to do both as it allows me to learn things I haven't get and because it brings me to my second branch. I love to do both because it requires to do less thinking in a way. Every part of the paper is in the research and all the writer has to do is put it into the paper. However, limits, again, make the process of writing them inane as people want long lengths sometimes even past ten pages. This makes me add fluff to my research paper which just distracts from the facts and research. To me research papers and reports need to be concise and get straight to the facts that were found in the research. Adding page limits just makes the piece of writing have fluff that doesn't need to be there. Topics also can make it pain to write as different topics can have different amount of research. This is the main reason I hated writing a research paper for Long Day's Journey Into Night by Eugene O'Neill. I had to relate the play to the author's life which was easy, but it lacked a lot of information to fit nine to ten essay. Overall, I had to add a lot to fluff to reach nine to ten pages which resulted in the teacher asking why everybody why it wasn't concise. Limits always seem to me what was dragging the fun out of writing and which is why I love to write freestyle. The third ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 110. Essay On Family House Sales Introduction New one family house sales from January 1975 through October 2017 has certainly been a roller coaster ride. Unfortunately, the anticipation of climbing that giant hill and the exhilaration of flying down the other side with the occupant's hands in the air on a roller coaster does not possess the same sentiment when it comes to forecasting new one family house sales. While watching the numbers climb is exciting for economists, the downward decline in sales causes forecasters, economists and the market to throw their hands up in the air while screaming; What went wrong? A plethora of causal factors play a role in the incline or decline of the housing market. Unemployment, mortgage interest rate, disposable income, weather ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Autocorrelation is the examination of the correlation of data between successive observations over time (Wilson, Keating, & John Galt Solutions, 2009, p. 84). Figure 2 shows the autocorrelation factor (ACF) for the NHS data set. Because all the data is above the upper limit line, there appears to be a positive trend present for the 12–month forecast. Upon further examination, the ACF does not quickly fall to zero confirming a significant presence of trend. Seasonality can be assumed by looking at the sharp up and down movement of the data in figure 1. The data is considered stationary if the ACF is mainly contained within the upper and lower bounds as illustrate in figure 3. Not only do we accept hundreds upon thousands of immigrants, we give them the freedom to practice their religion, as long as they follow the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The Charter, specifically the Multiculturalism Act, is the reason why immigrants are capable of practicing their religion freely. While many people endorse the idea of a multicultural background, there are those who believe that there sahould be a limit to what one can do corresponding to their religion.Instead, they believe that these immigrants should be assimilated to fit ethnic Canadian values. • 122. Music Therapy Reflection In these last few classes were have talked about dibs, gone over some limit setting, and have music therapists come to the class. I was really interested in hearing about music therapy because I honestly did not know anything about it before our guest speakers came in. I was excited to see what it entailed, and was interested in the audience that they worked with. But when they introduced themselves I quickly became upset when one of the speakers started talking about the dying children she worked with. I feel like we should have had a warning that she was going to talk about how she worked with dying children on a song for their funeral because that was too heartbreaking to handle, especially for someone who has had a very sick younger cousin who has spent large time spans in the hospital and have had life threatening complications. On a lighter note, we talked about limit setting in class and I did find it interesting the rule and regulations that came along with limit setting. I enjoyed the statement "A limit is not needed, until it is needed," because it still allows the autonomy of the children choosing things while still protecting yourself in situations that are deemed necessary. I did find it surprising when it was mentioned that some children can spend entire classes setting limits and making choices on what to do once a limit is not respected. I also like that we talked about how consistency is key, because that is applicable anywhere in a child's life, they need consistency in their life to a certain point in order to be well functioning. One of the reading that we did was a print out combination of powerpoint's and worksheets for limit setting. One new thing that I learned was the ACT of limit setting, Acknowledge, Communication, and Target. In this the therapist is expected to acknowledging the child's feelings, State or define the limit, and then provide an alternative for the child. This made it very clear and helpful to understand how to set a limit in an appropriate and not in an imaginative limiting way. You acknowledge their feelings and provide them with an alternative to the behavior that you have deemed unsafe, destructive, etc. I like this because I have tried something like this in ... • 130. Vygotsky's Sociocultural Theory and Hong Kong Vygotsky's sociocultural theory focused on the affect of the surroundings, namely the culture, peers, and adults, on the developing child. Vygotsky proposed the "zone of proximal development" (ZPD) to explain the influence of the cultural context. ZPD refers to the range of tasks which a child cannot finish alone since they are too difficult, but such tasks can be completed with guidance and aid from more–skilled individuals. The lower limit of ZPD is the level of skill that the children can reach alone, and the upper limit of ZPD is the level of skill that the children can reach with guidance from a more skilled individual, such as teachers, parents and more–skilled peers. Imagine a child is having difficulty writing book reports. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This results in schools focusing on instructing knowledge to students like feeding chickens in a farm and doesn't really care whether the students understand the knowledge instructed or not. This exam– oriented style of education ignores the students' development as a whole, and generates many graduates with good grades in school and struggled in workplace. The old educational style of Hong Kong seems not to fit with Vygotsky's theory. Nowadays, the emphasis of education in Hong Kong seems to be starting to shift from instructing knowledge to assisting students to construct knowledge. As teachers will not only instruct knowledges, but also guides students in finishing tasks such as laboratory exercises and group projects. This implies the ZPD as teachers will now try to dig students' potential and help students to reach them. Peer mentors are also very common in secondary schools nowadays. Senior form students will volunteer or be recruited by teachers to assist junior form students to finish assignments or group projects. Cross–age mentoring is more common than same–age mentoring. Same–age mentoring will only occur in class, as students with better understanding on the subject will help explain the concepts to other students and assist them in finishing in–class assignments. The peer mentors are suggested to adjust the amount of guidance according to the progress of the tutees. This implies the scaffolding concept and that culture is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Then βf = fB ⊂ C : f −1(B) 2 βg is a semi ring bornology on C: Proof. Let B1; B2 2 βf: Then there exist B1 A; B2 A 2 β such that f(B1 A) = B1 and f(B2 A) = B2 so f(B1 A + B2 A) = f(B1 A) + f(B2 A) = B1 + B2 and f(B1 A · B2 A) = f(B1 A) · f(B2 A) = B1 · B2, therefore βf is a semi ring bornology on C. Proposition 3.9. Let (A; βi)i2I be a collection of a bornological semi ring, then i2Iβi is a semi ring bornology on A. Proof. It is known that β = Ti2I βiis a bornology, we must show that it also is a semi ring bornology. Let B1; B2 2 β, then B1; B2 2 βi for any i 2 I, hence B1 + B2 2 βi and B1 · B2 2 βi since βi are semi rings bornology. Therefore B1 + B2 2 β and B1 · B2 2 β, i.e., the additive and multiplication operation are bounded. A morphism of bornological semi rings : (A; βA) ! (C; βC) is defined to be a bounded semi ring homomorphism if the image under of every bounded subsemi ring of A is bounded. It is clear that the composition of two bounded semi rings homomorphisms is bounded, so we can define the category of bornological semi rings denote Born(SRings), with objects bornological semi rings and arrows bounded semi ring homomorphisms. The category of bornological semi ring admits limits, colimits with the following description. Let (Ai; βi)i2I be a family of bornological semi rings, then the direct product Qi2I(Ai; βi)i2I is defined to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on Term Limits: We Don't Need Career Politicians Elections, especially of representatives and counselors, should be annual, there not being in the whole circle of the sciences a maxim more infallible than this, 'where annual elections end, there slavery begins.' This will teach them the great political virtues of humility, patience, and moderation, without which every man in power becomes a ravenous beast of prey. –John Adams Government exists to serve the people, and not the politicians, American citizens know this. Many people think that with term limits we would lose experience, maturity, and knowledge of the workings of Congress. However, this is not correct. The workings of Congress need not be nearly so complex as careerists would have us think. However, great pains have been exerted to give us that impression. A term–limited Congress could get the nation's business accomplished in a fraction of the time that it takes now, with all the posturing, posing, ego trips and headline–grabbing. And a term–limited Congress could streamline all the procedures. As for experience we would be better off without some of it. What is needed is experience in the real world life experiences from new blood, with fresh ideas. With term limits, congressional staff people would gain control, is another widely used argument against term limits. The fallacy of that argument is that the staff people already have control. Through the years, Congress has abdicated it to them. Committee staffs write the legislation, and members' staffs read it, then tell members what's in it. Members themselves rarely read what they vote on. In a country where ignorance of the law is no excuse, members of Congress are often ignorant of many of the provisions of laws they vote on. Congress and its members could regain control from the staffs right now, if they had the will. They don't have the will. Speed Limits And Speed Limit Setting Practices Contrary to popular belief, slower speed limits that are set by politicians that have no knowledge of road engineering, and don't listen to city engineers, creates a dangerous environment were drivers are more likely to speed and create risk. Around two months ago, the Victoria council unanimously approved of the proposal to lower speed limits on many active streets such as Cook Street, Blanchard Street, Richmond Street, as well as many others. However, these changes have been opposed by the city engineers and seem to go against the ministry of transportations Review and Analysis of Posted Speed Limits and Speed Limit Setting Practices in British Columbia. In addition, research in the United States has shown an increase in speed limits, where appropriate, reduces speeding and does not increase the amount of crashes. Furthermore, on the case of highways, if we take examples from Germany's autobahn fatality rate and contrast it with our highway we see a dramatic difference. Moreover, instead of spending money and replacing the signs entirely, our city should instead deposit more money is road safety equipment. Our politicians should listen more to the professionals, city engineers, rather than making absurd speed limits that do not reflect the speeds that drivers deem acceptable. In 2014, the Victoria city council decided to lower speed limits on streets in the downtown core, some notable mentions being Quadra Street, Richmond, and many others. These streets are being ...
