• Our target audience is the 15-24 year old (which is the prime demographic
which most films are aim towards)
• Female
• Generally still in education
• There are certain aspects of our opening that would appeal to our target audience such as
having a young cast that ages’ are within our target audience. This may make the audience
feel that they are able to relate better to the characters than if it were and older cast.
• The narrative would also appeal to our target audience as we found in our audience research
that films that include topic areas such as love our target audience found particularly
interesting. Though our narrative is not a conventional portrayal of love; it is obsession, it
would still spark some interest from our target audience.
• The intrigue created by the narrative e.g. why does this male character have all these
pictures? And who is this girl?
• The composition used in the audio line would appeal to our target audience as during our
research we found that they preferred the genre of music that we used for our soundtrack; it
would not have the same appeal to wider audiences.
• We decided that to draw an audience to watch our film we could create a
marketing campaign such as creating promotion posters, or possibly a
short viral trailer.
• Furthermore the audience would be drawn to watch our film as they like
films that have generic conventions in them. In the case of our opening it is
that the stalker (antagonist) is male and the victim is female.
• The audience is asked to relate to the antagonist and the effect of this is
that I causes them to think deeper as to his motives then to simply see him
as a villain. Furthermore as his age falls within the target audiences’ it
would allow the audience to feel as though they can connect more with
the character but, also feel a greater sense of mystery and intrigue as to
why someone “like them” would behaviour in such a deviant manner.
• The audience are not allowed to witness much of the antagonists’
appearance, it is slowly introduced over the course of the opening until a
shadow image can be seen of him. This means that it will be hard to
distinguish his features and see him clearly further adding to the mystery
as to who he is. It also creates a tense, unease atmosphere as the
shadowy representation causes mistrust and even fear towards the
character; it may intrigue audiences as to why they should feel this way
about the character and influence them to watch further.
• The audience like the title we used for our thriller opening as
they felt that it was a catchy title that was not too long, the
colours used they felt were also bold and stood out on screen
on the dark background.
• It was also suggested that the actually definition of the title has
a lot of connotations which appeal directly to certain interests
of our target audience. For example the word fixation is implies
that there is obsession and fascination with someone (the
female character), and the majority of individuals in our target
age group have a fixation/obsession with someone they idolise
such as a celebrity and/or sportsman/woman. Which allows for
the audience to identify more with the character as they feel
that they share more traits.
