2. At the start of my coursework my group and I conducted our target audience research which
helped my group and I establish and decide what we were going to do for our coursework.
Based of this it helped us consolidate and decide the narrative, direction and tone we were
going to go with.
Based of our target audience research we learnt and decided for our ancillary task they would
prefer the layout found in FILM magazine and that they would like to see a dark and cool
tones colour scheme to meet the conventions of a crime genre in which the colour are very
cold.
When it came to choosing a side genre alongside the teen genre our target demographic we
were leaning towards a crime however our target audience decided on thriller with drama
being the second most popular. However during the construction genre we felt that it did not
portray thriller so we dropped trying to represent that genre and so we decided to turn our
film into a teen, crime, drama film. We decided on a storyline of an M.I.6 agents being
blackmailed by teens over the recovery of sensitive data
3. However at our showcase event we presented our rough cut of our trailer to a live audience
made up of our target demographic where after watching the trailer they gave us they’re
feedback on what they understood and what could be improved. The main thing that they
said could be improved is the audio levels on the dialogue as at certain points they couldn’t
understand what the characters are saying and the second was that they didn't’t fully
understand the plot and storyline, these were interesting as my group and I have seen the
trailer hundereds of time and know it inside out so these problems where unknown to us.
Overall I found our feedback extremely helpful in improving my coursework.
So to fix these errors we decided to make the dialogue slightly higher and lowering the
background track during the parts of the trailer where there is dialogue so that the viewer will
understand what our actors are saying.
To help the viewer follow the storyline as they said it was unclear and didn’t understand the role
of some actors especially the M.I.6 agent so we added extra footage of him to the trailer so
that his purpose was easier to understand. We did this by adding 10-15 extra seconds of
footage of him being called and blackmailed by the students. It starts of from a slightly lower
three shot of our protagonists followed by a jump cut a close up to the agent on the phone
as he puts it down and lets the gravity of the situation sink in
