The Forensic Anthropologist In Cross Bones By Kathy Reich
Cross Bones is an action packed ninth book by Kathy Reich. Kathy Reich works as a forensic
anthropologist in North Carolina and Quebec. Kathy Reich's character Temperance Brennan is a
mixture of real forensic cases. Her role as a forensic anthropologist, has inspired a television show
called Bones. The executive producer of Bones, Barry Josephson, based the main character on both
Reich and Brennan's personality. For example, one of the episode Cross Bones they talked about the
skull fragments, list of bones and how the carbon 14 to tell how old the bones are just some
examples displayed throughout the book. "In the tomb they discovered a plaque that had a deep
crack running through and four deep lines of the inscription. The crack had ancient

Challenges And Choices That We Make Us Grow As A Person
Obstacles in life are really challenges and choices that we make, placed there to help us grow as a
person. The obstacles, and how you deal with them, help to mold and shape character, then go on to
help others with their obstacles. I have faced some difficult struggles, which have portrayed clearly
that although sometimes one may feel alone, Hashem is always with you throughout every obstacle
you may tackle. These challenges are what make us stronger in the bitachon and emunah in
Hashem. When we attack an obstacle, we're prepared for other challenges that come our way in the
future. This tragic story had recently occurred, when I had found out the devastating news that my
great–grandfather had been awfully ill. I rapidly got into an ... Show more content on

I couldn't imagine who was on the phone, and then I wish I hadn't even grasped that telephone wire
to pick up. It was my mother, of course I was pleased to hear her on the phone, in fact I was jumping
for joy, I haven't heard her voice in a long period of time, nevertheless, I wasn't that pleased with the
message that she would deliver. My mother had tried to exclaim to me delicately the dreadful news;
although in the tone of her voice I can sense the tough time she was having, that my great
grandfather had unfortunately passed away. I felt my heart swell with a sea of tears, How can this
happen? Why to me? What did I do to deserve this? I believed that my hope had gone to despair, it
was like a fragile seed–gone. The hope that I tried constructing had now been demolished in a
matter of seconds. I tried to pretend it was okay–but it wasn't. I tried to conceal my pain–but there
was no use. I was as stubborn as a mule; I couldn't accept the reality that my great grandfather was
no longer with us. Many of my friends saw a rapid change in me instantly; my heart was shattered in
pieces! I didn't have the courage to tell them what had occurred to me, but they were very much
aware that something was happening without doubt. As the days went on, I really tried to have a
good time but I felt that a part of me was incomplete;

Summary Of ' Our Heroes ' Tale '
*INSERT TITLE*
Our heroes ' tale begins in the small magical community of Enchantia, situated deep within the
Enchanted Rainbow Forest, far away from normal civilization. This forest is thick with massive
trees that bare a multitude of differently coloured leaves and vegetation as far as the eye can see.
Even though the forest is expansive, the vegetation manages to remain fairly well kept, giving off a
peaceful and calm vibe. Scattered throughout the forest are large caves (some containing treasure!)
and other small animal communities. But, this story is not about the other communities, it is about
Enchantia and its residents. In particular, the small green dragon who goes by the name of Grassy,
and her best friend: Fluffy, the tiny ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The idea that maybe they should leave their calm little community and go on the largest adventure
they could think of. It would lead them to new, interesting, exciting, and unexplored lands; lands
where they could live out their wildest dreams. They would have to venture into completely
unknown territory, that could potentially pose a threat to the two friends. But nonetheless they
decided that they would take the day to prepare and leave by morning of the next day.
Come morning, the duo of friends were both very eager to embark on this adventure. Since there
were no maps of this secluded area, they decided that to start this adventure they would pick a
direction and just walk until they found something interesting. After a few hours of talking, walking,
and occasional snacking, the two creatures stumbled upon the entrance of a large and somewhat
dark looking cave.
"I 'm not too sure I want to go in there Grassy, it looks pretty dangerous. What if we get hurt?"
Remarked Fluffy.
Grassy, being the more courageous one of the duo, managed to convince Fluffy by reminding her,
"We wanted an adventure right? Well, a dark and unexplored cave is the best place to start!"
"You know what Grassy, you're right. This cave looks rife with adventure!" And so, they entered the
cave, leaving all worry and hesitation behind them at the entrance.
After a few quiet minutes of walking down the cave, they reached the main cavern. The

Who Is Bones Entertaining Spin On Forensic Science?
"Bones an Entertaining Spin on Forensic Science"
Now a days there are hundreds of shows on television that can make sinking into the couch for a
weekend bender truly difficult. You can usually tell by the first ten or twenty minutes if it is a show
you want to invest your time into or not. Finding your favorite genre seems to help when making
this decision from the array of shows available. Due to this show being in its final season I found it
only fitting to explain why the criminal and forensic drama known as Bones is an all–time favorite
of mine. Bones is an entertaining spin on forensic science shown on Fox. One of the more
suspenseful episodes in this series was The Grave Digger episode where Dr. Temperance Brennen

The main character Horatio Caine, whips his head when taking off his sunglasses in almost every
episode. You can tell that his actions were meant to be a masculine and authoritative, even though
they always come off as so painfully overdramatic. With Bones, each of the characters are down to
earth, detail driven and easy to connect with. These traits help not to focus on the dramatizations. In
addition to the highly intelligent, but then again unemotional Dr. Brennen and the heroic, justice
driven agent Booth, there is also the whole forensic team. There was the young, pure, and eager FBI
psychologist Dr. Sweets. He was always trying to figure out how two opposites like Booth and
Brennen worked so well together. Angela, the free–spirited artist that is Dr. Brennen's best friend.
She helps to solve murders with composite sketches and breaks down difficult concepts for Dr.

to be king of the lab with anyone that challenges him. Lastly, there is Cam the coroner and boss of

Bones Never Lie By Kathy Reichs
"Bones Never Lie" is a fictional novel written by Kathy Reichs. This novel focuses on two main
characters – Dr. Temperance Brennan and Detective Andrew Ryan. The two are trying to solve a
murder case just been linked to one thousands of miles away. They linked these two to the murder
because both of the children had facial tissue under their fingernails, and it matched one another.
The two bodies have lots of things in common, other than the facial tissue. For one, they were posed
nicely, and had everything perfect when their bodies were found. Near the beginning of the novel,
they are able to rule out a man as a killer because of how well taken care of the girls were. As Dr.
Brennan gains more evidence, they can link more cases to the ... Show more content on

That was just a set–up, though. The real killer is revealed later on in the story, and it turns out to be
the survivor – Tawny McGee. She is the one who killed Pomerleau, and she started killing others as
well. She set up Ajax and placed evidence in his car that would get him interrogated. McGee is
holding someone hostage, and threatening to kill them. While Detective Ryan is asking her
questions to get her to let the hostage go, it is revealed that McGee has Stockholm Syndrome. She
had fallen in love with her kidnapper even though she was tortured by her. She got caught off guard
and is arrested. The book has a happy ending, with detective Ryan proposing to Dr. Brennan at a
dinner.
One piece of evidence that was used to help catch the killer, was the facial tissue under the victim 's
fingernails (pg. 9). This would be biological evidence because it came from a living thing, and the
person can be identified with DNA. It would also be circumstantial evidence because nobody saw
the facial tissue being placed there or getting under the fingernails. This would also be classified as
trace evidence because it can easily be transferred from one place to another. This evidence was
used to help catch the bad guy. Since it was found on another victim thousands of miles away, it was
easily linked to both murders. The facial tissue was found under the fingernails of the victim at the
first crime scene. It also helps catch the bad guy

Rationale For This Selection
Rationale for this Selection
I have always had a fascination with thrillers and detective novels, ever since I began reading books.
The way all of the pieces of each seemingly insignificant piece of evidence fell together always
intrigued me. I have read many detective and crime novels of varying quality: Nancy Drew,
Detective Barbie, CSI: Crime Scene Investigators novels, The Hardy Boys, Patricia Cornwell, and
even some Kathy Reich. All of these were only varying degrees of adequate. When I was in grade
six, I discovered Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes books. I read a couple of them and was
captivated by how Holmes could observe the smallest of details from a crime scene and connect
obscure events to form a completely accurate narrative of what happened, not only at the scene of
the crime, but of all the events leading up to the crime. Doyle was able to create the most fantastical
of circumstances that all connected perfectly in a way that completely spellbound me. I have read
several of the Sherlock Holmes books, including The Sign of Four, A Study in Scarlet, and The
Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. I started to read The Hound of the Baskervilles, but I never
finished it. This project provided the perfect opportunity to re–immerse myself in the mysterious
world of Detective Sherlock Holmes and his chronicler Dr. Watson. Plot Summary

The Emergence Of Gestalt Therapy In The 1940's
All great therapies start out with one person or group of people who become discontent with the
status quo, and avidly work to prove that what is widely accepted as the only way to accomplish
things, may not at all be what is necessary in all circumstances. In the early 1930's and 1940's
psychoanalysis was the rage, anyone in the field of psychology who did not ascribe to this style of
psychology was a deviant, and in all likelihood would be shun from the psychological community.
Additionally, this was a time period globally where many Jews in Europe were seeking to escape
from the hands of Hitler, and the Second World War was being fought. Precisely from this
background comes the birth of Gestalt Therapy. This paper will explore the emergence, ... Show

Some of the principles of this theory involved holism, field theory, figure formation process,
organismic self–regulation, the now, unfinished business, contact and resistances to contact, and
energy and blocks to energy. Additionally, this therapy introduced novel therapeutic interventions
such internal dialogue exercises like the empty chair technique that aims at getting the individual to
externalize what they have introjected, making the rounds that allows individuals in a group setting
to go around and speak to different people, the reversal exercise which asks the person to act in a
way that is contrary to their usual style of behaving, the rehearsal exercise, exaggeration exercise,
and staying with the feeling, as well as its approach to dreams. The majority of Gestalt therapy
interventions are derived from the performance arts (Corey,

Americans Are Utterly Powerless, The Former Secretary Of...
In the article Americans Are Utterly Powerless, the former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich points
out that the lack of meaningful choices is deteriorating American citizens' basic rights, forcing them
to be powerless in nearly all aspects. He argues that the fundamental goal of economy and society
are supposed to be benefiting citizens. Instead, the system nowadays focuses on making the top
more powerful. As a matter of fact, American citizens become hopeless for that they can account on
no authorities for help. This is a social problem existing in America. However, I do not agree with
him that Americans are cornered to the dead–end. Even though the society and economy changes to
favor the wealthy, there are choices that Americans can make to divert the predicament of
powerless. Before I elaborate my positive perspectives, it is necessary to look at Reich's viewpoints.
Albeit his slight gloom attitude toward the growing sense of powerlessness among citizens, I like
how he expounds the arguments in a clear structure. He examines the powerless characteristic
through three fundamental roles of citizens–as workers, consumers, and voters. But again, there are
emerging choices I would like to point out that can decelerate the powerlessness. Reich first puts his
attention on workers. He states that despite economic recoveries, unemployment is the highest in
thirty years. Even in this situation companies are lowering wages, changing full–time workers to
part–time workers or

The Pronounced Regression of Today's Society Essay
"A refreshed mind is a creative and productive one," is a quote written by Kathy Bell, in her book
Regression (Bell). In a society that is continuing to regress to the ways of previous historical times,
does it make you think that maybe no one is working to keep their mind refreshed and allow our
society to grow as opposed to it going backwards? Particular aspects of our society are regressing to
ways that can be compared to those of the Paleolithic period, including the way our society's gender
roles are portrayed, our ideology and how we treat people, and being civilized. We are reverting to
women being the homebodies and taking care of their children and given high expectations, and
men being the one in charge. Today's society, like the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is near impossible to walk through a store and not see a female dressed suggestively posed on a
magazine or in an ad to sell any kind of product. Women are also subjected to be at home taking
care of the house and children and any needs that their husband may have at any given time. It is
plastered unashamedly on any available form of advertisement, whether it be for a diet pill, gym,
clothing line, etc., for a woman to look, act, and feel a certain way. Females as an entirety, are
supposed to be in shape, happy at all times to meet any and all needs, look like a runway model, and
have all of our ducks in a row. This is similar to how the Paleolithic people wanted women to look
like the statuettes and to be gatherers, serving their husband, children, and other family members
that they may have had (Anitei). Essentially, modern day society is reverting it's ideals to those of
the Paleolithic people: to separate ourselves into groups and to view women as sex objects and
servants for their family. Next, our ideology and treatment of others has somewhat regressed to the
ways of the Old Stone Age. The Paleolithic people worshiped a "Mother Goddess" that was similar
to a mother nature genre of belief (Cunningham). The Mother Goddess represented female power
and it's role of rebirth and life (Cunningham). Throughout history, society has drawn away from
female goddesses and towards male deities (Pino). Whilst we have numerous

A Career In The Medical Field
From a young age, my dreams of the future have always focused on a career in the medical field. I
would dress up like a doctor and run around putting band aids on everything, filling out charts, and
tapping people's knees to check their reflexes. My pediatrician, Dr. Kyle, unfailingly made sure I
was comfortable and was capable of helping me calm down when I was worried about getting a
shot. She made my yearly check–ups fun and I looked forward to seeing her. She consistently asked
me what I wanted to be when I grow up and when I admitted I wanted to be a doctor, she
encouraged me to pursue medicine. Initially, I aspired to be an equestrian veterinarian, but realized I
would prefer patients who could speak to me and answer my questions. From there my career
ambitions flourished and I considered a career as a coroner, anatomy and physiology teacher, and an
orthopedic surgeon. Many things have motivated me in pursuing a career in the medical field:
personal motivation, life experiences, inspiring teachers, and most importantly, my passion for
science.

"Deja Dead"
This is the first novel in the "Bones" series released in 1997. Temperance Brennan has devoted her
life to justice, even for people that she did not know. A year ago, she left behind a bad marriage in
North Carolina, and her work has made it hard for her to get to know the town of Quebec. A female

search for a killer, after she sees a horrifying pattern involved. Her daughter and her best friend are

Example Of Anthropology On Television
Anthropology on Television What do food, occupation, and forensics have in common? Initially,
there is not much to connect these three; until you add the word anthropology. Every aspect of
culture can be a field of anthropological study. Without even knowing it, there are famous
anthropologists who are a part of both scientific research and popular culture. Now the question
becomes what do Andrew Zimmern, Mike Rowe, and Kathy Reichs have in common? As a central
star on the Travel Channel, Andrew Zimmern travels the world learning about food, culture, and
people on the show "Bizarre Foods". Zimmern proclaimed in an interview that the purpose of the
show is not to recommend places to people, but rather, "It's a show about exploring culture through
food and trying to define a place" (Zimmern). Through his experiences, not only in food, but also in
the cultures behind the cooking, Zimmern is working to preserve cultures as well as educate the

Jean Sibelius Research Paper
Jean Sibelius born as Johan Christian Julius Sibelius on December 8, 1865 in a small Russian town
in Finland. Sibelius began to take his interest in music serious when he became a teenager. At the
age of 20, he decided to pave his way in the music industry by declaring it as a career. He was
positive that this was what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. Then, he enrolled in a music
school to fulfill this dream. The school was later named Sibelius Academy in his honor. Sibelius
began to work with well known composers and figured that he wanted to be a violinist. However, he
waited to late into his career to make this sort of decision. The training was too intense. Sibelius
spent most of his music career composing pieces in well known places such as Italy and Berlin. It
has been found that Sibelius cherished nature especially the scenery from his usual surroundings.
Therefore, many of his works' were influenced by the elegance of nature. Sibelius grew up in the
age when Finland was fighting for its independence from Russia. His pieces made the people of
Finland raise their eyebrows but in a good way. However, it did not sit that well with the people in
power. Sibelius' music grew from a romantic tradition. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Winter's Bones Film Analysis
Winter's Bones is a film based on a novel. It was nominated to several Academy Award like the
Oscars, Golden Globes as well as other film festivals. The genre of the film oscillates between
drama and thriller. The story takes place in the Midwestern United States. The film is about a sad
story in a dark world dominated by a patriarchal society. Everything happens in a small town where
the citizens are related between them, and they hold grudges. The film is directed by Debra Granik
and starring Jennifer Lawrence, John Hawkes, Garret Dillahunt.
The film begins with an acapella song and the image of children jumping on a trampoline outside a
wooden house in the middle of a forest. The staging is simple, completely gray, cold and sober. The

It helps the plot to cause intrigue and expectation. We can appreciate some songs of the genre folk
and country, typical of those regions. The light used throughout the film. In terms of
cinematography, long shots, full shots, and close up predominate. The use of establishing shot helps
the viewer to locate not so much at a specific time but in a specific context. That is, deep America.
POV shots are also used on different occasions. An example of this, it is a scene in which Ree goes
with his neighbor who is also half cousin in a car to supposedly look for Jessup's body. From the
perspective of the character we see the road. The director uses match on action at different times.
For example, there is a scene in which the protagonist arrives at her friend's house to see her and ask
her a favor. We see them open the door and then they are inside the room. This effect helps to give
continuity to an action that happens in one shot and continues in the next one. Another of the editing
techniques widely used in the film is the reverse shot parent, 180 degree rule, and aye line match.
There are very meetings in the movie. Most of them, between the protagonist and each of the
characters that she visits to ask about her father. Sometimes these conversations can be carried out
with the characters in the same plane. Other times, the camera shows us first one of the character,
and then the other character in other shot as the dialogues

The Use Of Sharp Force Trauma In Kathy Reich's Deja Dead
In the Kathy Reich's novel, Deja Dead, a Forensic Anthropologist, named Dr. Temperance Brennan,
recently moved to the Canadian province of Quebec to escape her divorce. There, Dr. Brennan
works for the "Laboratoire de Medecine Legale", a coroner's office in the city of Montreal. The
novel begins when Dr. Brennan is called to investigate bones found by two Quebec water workers at
an abandoned monastery. At the scene, Dr. Brennan discovers the meticulously mutilated and
dismembered remains of a female stashed in a series of trash bags. As the novel progresses, Dr.
Brennan begins to notice a pattern amongst the remains brought to her lab: all victims were female,
most dismembered with similar methods of disposal and evidence of mutilation. This ... Show more

Brennan began noticing a pattern between the skeletons she was analyzing, she decided to evaluate
the sharp force trauma resulting from the dismemberment of the victims. Sharp force trauma is
characterized as trauma created by a tool with a point or beveled edge; these traumas often leave
distinctive marks (cuts) on the bone (Christensen, 360). The two most commonly utilized tools are
saws and knives. The distinctive marks left on the bone can help forensic anthropologists determine
what type of tool was used on the skeleton. On Isabelle Gagnon's skeleton, the murderer utilized
both a knife and a saw to dismember the body. Knife cuts and stab wounds usually leave marks such
as straight–line incisions, punctures, gouges and clefts (Christensen, 360). Forensic Anthropologists
can also determine whether or not the knife was serrated or not–serrated blades b looking at the
marks made on the bones. Marks created by saws can also be analyzed. Class characteristics of saws
include traits such as the tooth size and shape, teeth–per–inch, saw power, and direction of the saw
cut and stroke (Christensen, 361). By analyzing the cut marks, or kerfs, found on Isabelle Gagnon's
bones, Dr. Brennan concluded that the dismemberment was likely done by a handsaw with
alternating teeth and a teeth–per–inch of 10 (Reich, 195). Not only was this saw used to dismember
Isabelle Gagnon, but the same characteristics were found on another victim, leading the team to
believe they were dealing with a serial

The Ethics of Genetic Testing Essay
The Ethics of Genetic Testing
The Goal of the Human Genome Project is to obtain genetic mapping information and to determine
the complete sequence of all human DNA by the year of 2005. The project started in 1990 and 180
million dollars are being spent on it annually. This adds up to a total of over 2 billion dollars for the
15 year budget. Of this 2 billion dollars budgeted, 5% is spent annually on the ethical, legal and
social issues. This report focused on some of these issues.
Before discussion of the ethical, legal and social issues can be successful, some background
information is needed. For example, why is the goal of mapping the human genome important? Who

In the second type of disease, the person can have regular checkups to increase the likelihood of an
early diagnosis and therefore start early treatment. In both cases, the person's suffering and society's
expenses can likely be reduced. Generally, early detection increases the likelihood of successful
treatment which in turn is likely less expensive than the development of a "full–blown" disease.
With this said, I found a contradiction in Business Week magazine that showed the costs of
screening for cystic fibrosis created more of an expense than treating the disease (Krohn, 1995). It
stated that the estimated lifetime medical costs for someone with CF is around $200,000 whereas
the cost of each test was more than $200. This calculation puts the cost of avoiding one CF birth at
more than 1 million dollars.
David Magnus brings up the broader issue of allocation. In an article entitled Gene Therapy and the
Concept of Genetic Disease he writes:

If you 've ever visited a personal development or lifestyle design site, you may have stumbled across
a niche called minimalism. What is minimalism? That depends on who you ask. Essentially, it is
choosing to live with less stuff to live life more fully.
Many find the minimalist lifestyle appealing for a variety of reasons. Some of these include the way
it reflects their values. By choosing to live with less and buy less, a person can live a more
sustainable lifestyle. Others prefer the freedom owning less gives you.
There are many interpretations of the minimalist lifestyle, including one where people have chosen
to participate in the 100 Thing Challenge, where they live with 100 items or less. This may sound
extreme, but consider people around the world have been doing it for thousands of years.
However, most modern minimalists who write about what they are doing are not parents, and even
fewer are moms. There are so many more barriers for a parent who chooses to live with less stuff
because parenthood invariably means you accumulate more stuff.

Descriptive Essay On Hunting
This was my first deer season. I had gone hunting before, but this was deer hunting. I had to change
everything about my tactics. Instead of sitting on the ground behind a bush like I had done before
turkey hunting, this time I would be sitting in a tree. I was high up in the tree. I knew that if I were
to drop anything out of this stand it would be a pain for me to retrieve it. I got into the stand far
before the light of the sun could warm the freshly snowed on grass. I could see my breath in the dim
light of my lantern as I climbed into the tree. Step by step the ground grew further away from me, I
was taking off into a new point of view. I sat down on the platform and started to pull my backpack
up that I had tied to a rope on the ground. My body was tired from walking to the stand in all my
gear. I took my coffee out of my bag to hopefully warm my body. An hour had passed, but it had felt
like the earth around me had not moved. Everything was silent and still. Deer are quiet when they
walk. I felt the gust of wind blow down my neck. The hair on my neck stood straight as I grabbed
my coffee to warm up. It was still silent, but as the sun rose I could hear singing in my head. The
warm glow of the morning sun painted the snow a shimmering orange. Birds began to chirp and
swoop down from the trees to scavenge for seeds. I remained still in my stand, so I wouldn't spook
them, I am a guest here in their home. The sun shifted across the sky and as it did I could feel its

Some people use the process for non– health reasons. When the screening is opened up to non–
related health, 72 percent disapprove of the procedure, ("Introduction to Designer Babies: At
Issue."). According to a June 2006 paper published by Kathy L. Hudson of the Genetics and Public
Policy Center, many people wanted to enforce a line between acceptable and unacceptable uses for
PGD. (Hudson 1). By 2009, the Fertility Institutes in Los Angeles were letting parents select their
children's hair and eye color. The procedure brought over 4 billion dollars a year to the clinics.
Clinics were focused on the money and no the important things, like the patients. They did not have
the best interest in their patients, as much as they did in the money. ("Introduction to Designer

Buster, and Frances Sternhagen as Virginia, Misery is a psychological thriller produced and directed
by Rob Reiner. In this 1990 psychological thriller film you will experience thrill, action, suspense,
despair and misery, all powered by composer Marc Shaiman and his use of music to set the mood
for the audience.
Films and movies are a composition of elements that make that essentially come together as one to
form a piece of art. Although a film is not complete with missing elements, some elements when
used out of place can break a movie. Some of these elements include, but are not limited to, a
character's costume and makeup, lighting, camera direction, acting, special effects, and, sound
effects and music. In some films one element may be the overriding factor but when put together,
these elements work together to please an audience.
Each element on its own, has an important role it plays in the creation of a film or movie. In Misery,
for example, the choice of music composition used for major scenes in the movie helps to build on
the plot, suspense and rising action, on many other scenes, the fast paced music led to nail biting
and hair pulling moments. Without the wise choice of the fast–paced string, Classical music, Misery

Delphine Lalaurie Analysis
Delphine Lalaurie: A Killer in Disguise
America has always been fascinated by the notoriety of serial killers; however, there is not much

with Victoria Cosner Love about Madame Lalaurie and her history. Madame Lalaurie was born in
1775 to Barthelmy Louis Macarty and Marie Jeanne Lovable, the Macarty's were prominent among
New Orleans society, having emigrated to the Big Easy (New Orleans) from Ireland in the 1730s.
Victoria is the author of the book, "Mad Madame Lalaurie: New Orleans' Most Famous Murderess

A Comparison of Beloved and Don Quixote Essay
On reading Beloved by Toni Morrison and Don Quixote by Kathy Acker, there seem to be quite a
few similarities in themes and characters contained in these texts, the most prevalent of which seems
to be of love and language as a path to freedom. We see in Acker's Don Quixote the abortion she
must have before she embarks on a quest for true freedom, which is to love. Similarly, in Morrison's
Beloved, there is a kind abortion, the killing of Beloved by Sethe, which results in and from the
freedom that real love provides. And in both texts, the characters are looking for answers and
solutions in these "word–shapes" called language.
In Acker's Don Quixote, the abortion with which the novel opens is a precondition for surrendering

In Morrison's Beloved, Sethe has two "abortions." The first and most obvious is the act of
infanticide in killing Beloved. The second "abortion" is Sethe "getting fucked" by the grave–digger.
This abortion, like Acker's protagonist, creates a name. The name is Beloved – a "word–shape"
representing true love, or freedom.
For Sethe, to love also becomes a testament of freedom. For having been owned by others (like
Acker's patriarchy) meant that her claim to love was not her own. She could not love her children,
"love 'em proper in Kentucky because they wasn't [hers] to love" (Beloved 162). Paul D understands
that "to get a place where you could love anything you choose ... well now that was freedom"
(Beloved 162), but he is also bound to his slave mentality to overcome his fear. He considers Sethe's
unconditional love "risky": "For a used–to–be–slave woman to love anything that much was
dangerous, especially if it was her children she had settled on to love" (Beloved 45). The far safer
way was "to love just a little bit, so when they broke its back, or shoved it in a croaker sack, well,
maybe you'd have a little love left over for the next one" (Beloved 45). It is this compromised love
that even Baby Suggs accepted – despite her magnificent sermon in the Clearing on loving one's self
– knowing that her slave master would take her children away. And it is this "weak love" that Paul D
tells Sethe she must accept (a patriarchal love, as Acker

Forensics Book Report
This caught my attention right away and hooked me in. Along with being a topic I was quite
interested in (reference to last nonfiction book report), the first two sentences got me wondering.
What could be told from a murdered person's body? I already had a lot of background information
from research and watching shows on mystery and homicide but this question led to a million
answers. Some answers were cause of death, manner of death. time of death, weapon used, etc, all
of which were related because this was sparked from the thought of a dead person and my ideas.
From this, I read on to determine what could be told from an expert's point of view. I also read on

Wilhelm Reich Essay
Wilhelm Reich was born in the Austro–Hungarian Empire on March 24th, 1897. His parents were
farmers, and at a young age Reich developed a fascination with the life processes of plants and
animals. His formal education at this time was provided by a private tutor.
When Reich was 14, he discovered his mother was having an affair with his tutor. After Reich
reported this to his father, his mother committed suicide. Atwood and Stolorow (1977) have
speculated that this tragedy may have contributed to Reich's most significant theories.
After the death of his father three years later, Reich took over the family farm until it was destroyed
by the Russians in 1915. At that time he joined the Austrian Army. Upon returning from the war,

Because sexuality is often shrouded in ignorance and shame, many people are not able to attain this
release and, according to Reich, are thereby doomed to ill health and neurotic disturbances.
In order to combat societal pressure and educate the youth, Reich began organizing mental hygiene
clinics and sex counseling. He also began joining liberal and socialistic groups at this time,
convinced that only an overthrow of authoritarian society could ultimately alleviate the neurotic
suffering of its constituents. To this end, in 1930 he left his wife and daughters and traveled to
Berlin to join the Communist Party. Three years later, Reich would be expelled from the Party
because of his views regarding sexuality.
With the rise of Hitler, Reich left Germany and traveled to Denmark, and then fled to Sweden to
escape the Nazis. Sweden expelled him, and Reich moved on to Norway, where he began his bion
experiments. It was during these experiments that he discovered what he would term "orgone
energy," a form of life–energy which the bions emitted. He built and began experimenting with a
device intended to attract and concentrate orgone energy, the orgone accumulator, or ORAC.
In 1939, Reich accepted an invitation to lecture at the New School for Social Research in New York

Theme Of Seize The Day By Saul Bellow
Bellow is considered as one of the most celebrated authors of the 20th century and American
literature's most resourceful writer for all times. He has come to his prominence slowly through a
careful building up of a body of work, a composition displaying greater insight, range of power,
with each new novel. Since his appearance on the literary scene in the midforties, Saul Bellow,
recipient of the 1976 Nobel Prize for literature, has left his mark on the international literary world.
He is one the few contemporary authors who has been able to sustain the interest and dominate the
field of academic and scholarly inquiry for over four decades. His fiction typically addresses the
meaning of human existence in an increasingly aloof and world of mechanism. Writing in a
humorous, subjective style, Bellow often depicts introspective individuals sorting out a conflict
between the old world and the new world values while coping with personal anxieties and
objectives. Saul bellow has been a most persistent chronicler of America's restless search for

Intentional Melodrama Forms in Brecht's The Jewish Wife Essay
The triviality of melodrama is so often the theatrical scapegoat that boils the blood of the modern–
day critic: the sentimental monologues, the martyred young lovers, the triumphant hero, and the
self–indulgent imagery. Melodrama would seem the ultimate taboo; another failed Shakespearean
staging or even worse, an opera minus the pretty music. Ironically, Bertolt Brecht, dramatic
revolutionary and cynic of all things contrived found promise in the melodramatic presentation.
Brecht examined and manipulated the various superficial and spectacular aspects of theatre,
establishing a synthesis of entertainment and social criticism as his fundamental goal. Bertolt Brecht
employs various facets of melodramatic technique in The Jewish Wife, ... Show more content on

"This is Judith. Look, I'm leaving right away (13)." Like the grand opera of the nineteenth century,
we are presented with a formulaic plot that is easily understood, clearly reflecting a change in time
or consciousness (Brooks, 141).
Providing the audience with over–the–top imagery, elements of the stage direction indicated by
Brecht embellish an already melodramatic piece in The Jewish Wife. Perhaps one of the most
deliberate actions taken by Judith comes as she completes the series of departing telephone calls. A
blatant symbolic device, Judith is not only to said to "have been smoking," but that, "she now burns
the little book in which she looked up the telephone numbers (13)." This reflects the end of her
character's existence up until this point as wife and passive homemaker.
Examining the intense political and social climate in which Brecht's text is set, it becomes clear that
for the aforementioned reasons and more, The Jewish Wife is intentionally written as a melodrama.
Positioned at the onset of the Third Reich's rise to power in 1930s Germany, Brecht instantly
establishes a chaotic environment in which the
characters interact. The observing audience, as Brecht is aware, understands the tragic
circumstances into which Judith and her husband have been thrown. It is perhaps the most

The Forensic Anthropologist In Cross Bones By Kathy Reich

  • 1. The Forensic Anthropologist In Cross Bones By Kathy Reich Cross Bones is an action packed ninth book by Kathy Reich. Kathy Reich works as a forensic anthropologist in North Carolina and Quebec. Kathy Reich's character Temperance Brennan is a mixture of real forensic cases. Her role as a forensic anthropologist, has inspired a television show called Bones. The executive producer of Bones, Barry Josephson, based the main character on both Reich and Brennan's personality. For example, one of the episode Cross Bones they talked about the skull fragments, list of bones and how the carbon 14 to tell how old the bones are just some examples displayed throughout the book. "In the tomb they discovered a plaque that had a deep crack running through and four deep lines of the inscription. The crack had ancient ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Challenges And Choices That We Make Us Grow As A Person Obstacles in life are really challenges and choices that we make, placed there to help us grow as a person. The obstacles, and how you deal with them, help to mold and shape character, then go on to help others with their obstacles. I have faced some difficult struggles, which have portrayed clearly that although sometimes one may feel alone, Hashem is always with you throughout every obstacle you may tackle. These challenges are what make us stronger in the bitachon and emunah in Hashem. When we attack an obstacle, we're prepared for other challenges that come our way in the future. This tragic story had recently occurred, when I had found out the devastating news that my great–grandfather had been awfully ill. I rapidly got into an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I couldn't imagine who was on the phone, and then I wish I hadn't even grasped that telephone wire to pick up. It was my mother, of course I was pleased to hear her on the phone, in fact I was jumping for joy, I haven't heard her voice in a long period of time, nevertheless, I wasn't that pleased with the message that she would deliver. My mother had tried to exclaim to me delicately the dreadful news; although in the tone of her voice I can sense the tough time she was having, that my great grandfather had unfortunately passed away. I felt my heart swell with a sea of tears, How can this happen? Why to me? What did I do to deserve this? I believed that my hope had gone to despair, it was like a fragile seed–gone. The hope that I tried constructing had now been demolished in a matter of seconds. I tried to pretend it was okay–but it wasn't. I tried to conceal my pain–but there was no use. I was as stubborn as a mule; I couldn't accept the reality that my great grandfather was no longer with us. Many of my friends saw a rapid change in me instantly; my heart was shattered in pieces! I didn't have the courage to tell them what had occurred to me, but they were very much aware that something was happening without doubt. • 3. Summary Of ' Our Heroes ' Tale ' *INSERT TITLE* Our heroes ' tale begins in the small magical community of Enchantia, situated deep within the Enchanted Rainbow Forest, far away from normal civilization. This forest is thick with massive trees that bare a multitude of differently coloured leaves and vegetation as far as the eye can see. Even though the forest is expansive, the vegetation manages to remain fairly well kept, giving off a peaceful and calm vibe. Scattered throughout the forest are large caves (some containing treasure!) and other small animal communities. But, this story is not about the other communities, it is about Enchantia and its residents. In particular, the small green dragon who goes by the name of Grassy, and her best friend: Fluffy, the tiny ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The idea that maybe they should leave their calm little community and go on the largest adventure they could think of. It would lead them to new, interesting, exciting, and unexplored lands; lands where they could live out their wildest dreams. They would have to venture into completely unknown territory, that could potentially pose a threat to the two friends. But nonetheless they decided that they would take the day to prepare and leave by morning of the next day. Come morning, the duo of friends were both very eager to embark on this adventure. Since there were no maps of this secluded area, they decided that to start this adventure they would pick a direction and just walk until they found something interesting. After a few hours of talking, walking, and occasional snacking, the two creatures stumbled upon the entrance of a large and somewhat dark looking cave. "I 'm not too sure I want to go in there Grassy, it looks pretty dangerous. What if we get hurt?" Remarked Fluffy. Grassy, being the more courageous one of the duo, managed to convince Fluffy by reminding her, "We wanted an adventure right? Well, a dark and unexplored cave is the best place to start!" "You know what Grassy, you're right. This cave looks rife with adventure!" And so, they entered the cave, leaving all worry and hesitation behind them at the entrance. After a few quiet minutes of walking down the cave, they reached the main cavern. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Who Is Bones Entertaining Spin On Forensic Science? "Bones an Entertaining Spin on Forensic Science" Now a days there are hundreds of shows on television that can make sinking into the couch for a weekend bender truly difficult. You can usually tell by the first ten or twenty minutes if it is a show you want to invest your time into or not. Finding your favorite genre seems to help when making this decision from the array of shows available. Due to this show being in its final season I found it only fitting to explain why the criminal and forensic drama known as Bones is an all–time favorite of mine. Bones is an entertaining spin on forensic science shown on Fox. One of the more suspenseful episodes in this series was The Grave Digger episode where Dr. Temperance Brennen and Dr. Jack Hodgins ... You can tell that his actions were meant to be a masculine and authoritative, even though they always come off as so painfully overdramatic. In addition to the highly intelligent, but then again unemotional Dr. Brennen and the heroic, justice driven agent Booth, there is also the whole forensic team. There was the young, pure, and eager FBI psychologist Dr. Sweets. He was always trying to figure out how two opposites like Booth and Brennen worked so well together. • 5. Bones Never Lie By Kathy Reichs "Bones Never Lie" is a fictional novel written by Kathy Reichs. This novel focuses on two main characters – Dr. Temperance Brennan and Detective Andrew Ryan. The two are trying to solve a murder case just been linked to one thousands of miles away. They linked these two to the murder because both of the children had facial tissue under their fingernails, and it matched one another. The two bodies have lots of things in common, other than the facial tissue. For one, they were posed nicely, and had everything perfect when their bodies were found. Near the beginning of the novel, they are able to rule out a man as a killer because of how well taken care of the girls were. As Dr. Brennan gains more evidence, they can link more cases to the ... She is the one who killed Pomerleau, and she started killing others as well. She set up Ajax and placed evidence in his car that would get him interrogated. McGee is holding someone hostage, and threatening to kill them. While Detective Ryan is asking her questions to get her to let the hostage go, it is revealed that McGee has Stockholm Syndrome. She had fallen in love with her kidnapper even though she was tortured by her. She got caught off guard and is arrested. The book has a happy ending, with detective Ryan proposing to Dr. Brennan at a dinner. One piece of evidence that was used to help catch the killer, was the facial tissue under the victim 's fingernails (pg. 9). This would be biological evidence because it came from a living thing, and the person can be identified with DNA. It would also be circumstantial evidence because nobody saw the facial tissue being placed there or getting under the fingernails. This would also be classified as trace evidence because it can easily be transferred from one place to another. This evidence was used to help catch the bad guy. Since it was found on another victim thousands of miles away, it was easily linked to both murders. The facial tissue was found under the fingernails of the victim at the first crime scene. • 6. Rationale For This Selection Rationale for this Selection I have always had a fascination with thrillers and detective novels, ever since I began reading books. The way all of the pieces of each seemingly insignificant piece of evidence fell together always intrigued me. I have read many detective and crime novels of varying quality: Nancy Drew, Detective Barbie, CSI: Crime Scene Investigators novels, The Hardy Boys, Patricia Cornwell, and even some Kathy Reich. All of these were only varying degrees of adequate. When I was in grade six, I discovered Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes books. I read a couple of them and was captivated by how Holmes could observe the smallest of details from a crime scene and connect obscure events to form a completely accurate narrative of what happened, not only at the scene of the crime, but of all the events leading up to the crime. Doyle was able to create the most fantastical of circumstances that all connected perfectly in a way that completely spellbound me. I have read several of the Sherlock Holmes books, including The Sign of Four, A Study in Scarlet, and The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. I started to read The Hound of the Baskervilles, but I never finished it. This project provided the perfect opportunity to re–immerse myself in the mysterious world of Detective Sherlock Holmes and his chronicler Dr. Watson. • 8. Americans Are Utterly Powerless, The Former Secretary Of... In the article Americans Are Utterly Powerless, the former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich points out that the lack of meaningful choices is deteriorating American citizens' basic rights, forcing them to be powerless in nearly all aspects. He argues that the fundamental goal of economy and society are supposed to be benefiting citizens. Instead, the system nowadays focuses on making the top more powerful. As a matter of fact, American citizens become hopeless for that they can account on no authorities for help. This is a social problem existing in America. However, I do not agree with him that Americans are cornered to the dead–end. Even though the society and economy changes to favor the wealthy, there are choices that Americans can make to divert the predicament of powerless. Before I elaborate my positive perspectives, it is necessary to look at Reich's viewpoints. Albeit his slight gloom attitude toward the growing sense of powerlessness among citizens, I like how he expounds the arguments in a clear structure. He examines the powerless characteristic through three fundamental roles of citizens–as workers, consumers, and voters. But again, there are emerging choices I would like to point out that can decelerate the powerlessness. Reich first puts his attention on workers. He states that despite economic recoveries, unemployment is the highest in thirty years. Even in this situation companies are lowering wages, changing full–time workers to part–time workers or ... • 9. The Pronounced Regression of Today's Society Essay "A refreshed mind is a creative and productive one," is a quote written by Kathy Bell, in her book Regression (Bell). In a society that is continuing to regress to the ways of previous historical times, does it make you think that maybe no one is working to keep their mind refreshed and allow our society to grow as opposed to it going backwards? Particular aspects of our society are regressing to ways that can be compared to those of the Paleolithic period, including the way our society's gender roles are portrayed, our ideology and how we treat people, and being civilized. We are reverting to women being the homebodies and taking care of their children and given high expectations, and men being the one in charge. Today's society, like the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is near impossible to walk through a store and not see a female dressed suggestively posed on a magazine or in an ad to sell any kind of product. Women are also subjected to be at home taking care of the house and children and any needs that their husband may have at any given time. It is plastered unashamedly on any available form of advertisement, whether it be for a diet pill, gym, clothing line, etc., for a woman to look, act, and feel a certain way. Females as an entirety, are supposed to be in shape, happy at all times to meet any and all needs, look like a runway model, and have all of our ducks in a row. This is similar to how the Paleolithic people wanted women to look like the statuettes and to be gatherers, serving their husband, children, and other family members that they may have had (Anitei). Essentially, modern day society is reverting it's ideals to those of the Paleolithic people: to separate ourselves into groups and to view women as sex objects and servants for their family. Next, our ideology and treatment of others has somewhat regressed to the ways of the Old Stone Age. The Paleolithic people worshiped a "Mother Goddess" that was similar to a mother nature genre of belief (Cunningham). The Mother Goddess represented female power and it's role of rebirth and life (Cunningham). Throughout history, society has drawn away from female goddesses and towards male deities (Pino). • 10. A Career In The Medical Field From a young age, my dreams of the future have always focused on a career in the medical field. I would dress up like a doctor and run around putting band aids on everything, filling out charts, and tapping people's knees to check their reflexes. My pediatrician, Dr. Kyle, unfailingly made sure I was comfortable and was capable of helping me calm down when I was worried about getting a shot. She made my yearly check–ups fun and I looked forward to seeing her. She consistently asked me what I wanted to be when I grow up and when I admitted I wanted to be a doctor, she encouraged me to pursue medicine. Initially, I aspired to be an equestrian veterinarian, but realized I would prefer patients who could speak to me and answer my questions. From there my career ambitions flourished and I considered a career as a coroner, anatomy and physiology teacher, and an orthopedic surgeon. Men are often viewed to be stronger, to be more confident, and to be more courageous than their female counterparts. This is especially a common perception while pursing a potentially dangerous career, such as a firefighter, a police officer, or even a detective. Raymond Chandler, an American novelist who has a particular interest in detective fiction, declares, "the detective ... must be ... a man. He is a hero, he is everything. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Brennan began noticing a pattern between the skeletons she was analyzing, she decided to evaluate the sharp force trauma resulting from the dismemberment of the victims. Sharp force trauma is characterized as trauma created by a tool with a point or beveled edge; these traumas often leave distinctive marks (cuts) on the bone (Christensen, 360). The two most commonly utilized tools are saws and knives. The distinctive marks left on the bone can help forensic anthropologists determine what type of tool was used on the skeleton. On Isabelle Gagnon's skeleton, the murderer utilized both a knife and a saw to dismember the body. Knife cuts and stab wounds usually leave marks such as straight–line incisions, punctures, gouges and clefts (Christensen, 360). Forensic Anthropologists can also determine whether or not the knife was serrated or not–serrated blades b looking at the marks made on the bones. Marks created by saws can also be analyzed. Class characteristics of saws include traits such as the tooth size and shape, teeth–per–inch, saw power, and direction of the saw cut and stroke (Christensen, 361). By analyzing the cut marks, or kerfs, found on Isabelle Gagnon's bones, Dr. Brennan concluded that the dismemberment was likely done by a handsaw with alternating teeth and a teeth–per–inch of 10 (Reich, 195). • 31. A Comparison of Beloved and Don Quixote Essay On reading Beloved by Toni Morrison and Don Quixote by Kathy Acker, there seem to be quite a few similarities in themes and characters contained in these texts, the most prevalent of which seems to be of love and language as a path to freedom. We see in Acker's Don Quixote the abortion she must have before she embarks on a quest for true freedom, which is to love. Similarly, in Morrison's Beloved, there is a kind abortion, the killing of Beloved by Sethe, which results in and from the freedom that real love provides. And in both texts, the characters are looking for answers and solutions in these "word–shapes" called language. In Acker's Don Quixote, the abortion with which the novel opens is a precondition for surrendering the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Morrison's Beloved, Sethe has two "abortions." The first and most obvious is the act of infanticide in killing Beloved. The second "abortion" is Sethe "getting fucked" by the grave–digger. This abortion, like Acker's protagonist, creates a name. The name is Beloved – a "word–shape" representing true love, or freedom. For Sethe, to love also becomes a testament of freedom. For having been owned by others (like Acker's patriarchy) meant that her claim to love was not her own. She could not love her children, "love 'em proper in Kentucky because they wasn't [hers] to love" (Beloved 162). Paul D understands that "to get a place where you could love anything you choose ... well now that was freedom" (Beloved 162), but he is also bound to his slave mentality to overcome his fear. He considers Sethe's unconditional love "risky": "For a used–to–be–slave woman to love anything that much was dangerous, especially if it was her children she had settled on to love" (Beloved 45). The far safer way was "to love just a little bit, so when they broke its back, or shoved it in a croaker sack, well, maybe you'd have a little love left over for the next one" (Beloved 45). It is this compromised love that even Baby Suggs accepted – despite her magnificent sermon in the Clearing on loving one's self – knowing that her slave master would take her children away. And it is this "weak love" that Paul D tells Sethe she must accept (a patriarchal love, as Acker ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Forensics Book Report This caught my attention right away and hooked me in. Along with being a topic I was quite interested in (reference to last nonfiction book report), the first two sentences got me wondering. What could be told from a murdered person's body? I already had a lot of background information from research and watching shows on mystery and homicide but this question led to a million answers. Some answers were cause of death, manner of death. time of death, weapon used, etc, all of which were related because this was sparked from the thought of a dead person and my ideas. From this, I read on to determine what could be told from an expert's point of view. I also read on because I was really interested in this topic and hope to be in this business in the future. I'm fascinated by the thought of being able to help hundreds of people through solving the murder of their loved one, or by benefitting law enforcement in the establishment of a person's innocence or guilt. By doing this, I could help people, all while doing something I love. Forensics also fit in my standards since I'm intelligent, passionate about biological science, and quite sociable which allows me to work well with others, Through my analytical study of the show Bones, which revolves around the life of forensic anthropologist Kathy Reichs, and this ... • 33. Wilhelm Reich Essay Wilhelm Reich was born in the Austro–Hungarian Empire on March 24th, 1897. His parents were farmers, and at a young age Reich developed a fascination with the life processes of plants and animals. His formal education at this time was provided by a private tutor. When Reich was 14, he discovered his mother was having an affair with his tutor. After Reich reported this to his father, his mother committed suicide. Atwood and Stolorow (1977) have speculated that this tragedy may have contributed to Reich's most significant theories. After the death of his father three years later, Reich took over the family farm until it was destroyed by the Russians in 1915. At that time he joined the Austrian Army. Upon returning from the war, Reich ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because sexuality is often shrouded in ignorance and shame, many people are not able to attain this release and, according to Reich, are thereby doomed to ill health and neurotic disturbances. In order to combat societal pressure and educate the youth, Reich began organizing mental hygiene clinics and sex counseling. He also began joining liberal and socialistic groups at this time, convinced that only an overthrow of authoritarian society could ultimately alleviate the neurotic suffering of its constituents. To this end, in 1930 he left his wife and daughters and traveled to Berlin to join the Communist Party. Three years later, Reich would be expelled from the Party because of his views regarding sexuality. With the rise of Hitler, Reich left Germany and traveled to Denmark, and then fled to Sweden to escape the Nazis. Sweden expelled him, and Reich moved on to Norway, where he began his bion experiments. It was during these experiments that he discovered what he would term "orgone energy," a form of life–energy which the bions emitted. He built and began experimenting with a device intended to attract and concentrate orgone energy, the orgone accumulator, or ORAC. In 1939, Reich accepted an invitation to lecture at the New School for Social Research in New York City, and he moved to the United States. He married again, and in 1944 his son Peter was born. He continued to experiment with the ORAC, and in 1948 he is said to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Theme Of Seize The Day By Saul Bellow Bellow is considered as one of the most celebrated authors of the 20th century and American literature's most resourceful writer for all times. He has come to his prominence slowly through a careful building up of a body of work, a composition displaying greater insight, range of power, with each new novel. Since his appearance on the literary scene in the midforties, Saul Bellow, recipient of the 1976 Nobel Prize for literature, has left his mark on the international literary world. He is one the few contemporary authors who has been able to sustain the interest and dominate the field of academic and scholarly inquiry for over four decades. His fiction typically addresses the meaning of human existence in an increasingly aloof and world of mechanism. Writing in a humorous, subjective style, Bellow often depicts introspective individuals sorting out a conflict between the old world and the new world values while coping with personal anxieties and objectives. Saul bellow has been a most persistent chronicler of America's restless search for Alienation or sense of partition is one of the leading themes in Bellow's novel Seize the Day. • 36. Intentional Melodrama Forms in Brecht's The Jewish Wife Essay The triviality of melodrama is so often the theatrical scapegoat that boils the blood of the modern– day critic: the sentimental monologues, the martyred young lovers, the triumphant hero, and the self–indulgent imagery. Melodrama would seem the ultimate taboo; another failed Shakespearean staging or even worse, an opera minus the pretty music. Ironically, Bertolt Brecht, dramatic revolutionary and cynic of all things contrived found promise in the melodramatic presentation. Brecht examined and manipulated the various superficial and spectacular aspects of theatre, establishing a synthesis of entertainment and social criticism as his fundamental goal. Bertolt Brecht employs various facets of melodramatic technique in The Jewish Wife, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "This is Judith. Look, I'm leaving right away (13)." Like the grand opera of the nineteenth century, we are presented with a formulaic plot that is easily understood, clearly reflecting a change in time or consciousness (Brooks, 141). Providing the audience with over–the–top imagery, elements of the stage direction indicated by Brecht embellish an already melodramatic piece in The Jewish Wife. Perhaps one of the most deliberate actions taken by Judith comes as she completes the series of departing telephone calls. A blatant symbolic device, Judith is not only to said to "have been smoking," but that, "she now burns the little book in which she looked up the telephone numbers (13)." This reflects the end of her character's existence up until this point as wife and passive homemaker. Examining the intense political and social climate in which Brecht's text is set, it becomes clear that for the aforementioned reasons and more, The Jewish Wife is intentionally written as a melodrama. Positioned at the onset of the Third Reich's rise to power in 1930s Germany, Brecht instantly establishes a chaotic environment in which the characters interact. The observing audience, as Brecht is aware, understands the tragic circumstances into which Judith and her husband have been thrown. It is perhaps the most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
