The Violence And Human Violence
20th century is the most educated century but also the most violent over the history of mankind. The
lethal violence has been increasing over the course of mammal evolution. The aggression in
mammals, that includes humans, also has a genetic component with high heritability. So it is widely
admitted that evolution has shaped human violence. And this violence is not among different
species, it is among the same species. Of all the world species, humans and chimpanzees are some
the only species that engage themselves in coordinated attacks on the other members of the same
species. We, humans, are not the only ones that are involved in the homicides, massacres, terrorism,
and human violence. Like humans, chimpanzees also engage in rape, murders, and violence. The
patterns of violence that is found among the humans are compared and contrasted with the great ape
species. Whether it is for food/resource sharing, dominance structure, territory or the male
competition for sexual access to females. Both human and chimpanzee want to prove their status
what becomes a reason for a great number of wars and aggressiveness (Wrangham and Peterson,
1996).
What are the similarities between the chimpanzees and the humans that are certainly not true of all
animals? What gives our own species such violent males? As humans are genetically related to the
Great Apes, my focus of this paper would be tracking the evolutionary history of violence in the
Apes and how it originated in the humans later

Essay about Methods of Characterization in The Hairy Ape
Methods of Characterization in The Hairy Ape
Eugene Gladstone O'Neill was born October 16, 1888, to Irish–American parents in New York City.
His mother, Ella O'Neill, reserved and genteel (Sheaffer 15), came from a prosperous Cleveland
family. His father, James O'Neill, from a poor family, was an actor who became synonymous with
Dumas' Count of Monte Cristo, a role he performed over 3000 times (Sheaffer 8). Driven by fear of
poverty, James worked nonstop and constantly tried his hand at get–rich–quick schemes, such as
buying and selling real estate. Eugene had one older brother James. During Eugene's early years, the
family toured around the country with James Sr.'s acting company and spent each

O'Neill married Agnes Boulton in 1918, and Shane Rudraight O'Neill was born October 20,
1922. O'Neill won his first Pulitzer Prize for Beyond the Horizon (1920). He won two more for
Anna Christie (1922) and Strange Interlude (1928) and one posthumously for
Long Day's Journey into Night (1957). In 1929, O'Neill divorced Agnes and married
Carlotta Monterey, his third and final wife. O'Neill received the Nobel Prize for literature in 1936,
recognition of his work as possibly America's most influential dramatist. Later in his life he
developed Parkinson's disease which severely hampered his ability to write. In November 1953,
O'Neill developed pneumonia. Exhausted, he was confined to a room in a Boston hotel. Shortly
before he died, he sat up and cried, "I knew it, I knew it! Born in a [hotel room] and dying in a hotel
room!" (Sheaffer 24). He died November 27.
The Hairy Ape (1921) chronicles "the social snobbishness" (Carpenter 31) Eugene
O'Neill encountered during his stints as a crewmember on passenger liners to and from
Europe. For The Hairy Ape, O'Neill took cues from the expressionists and "employed
[techniques] of anti–realism" such as "the conscious use of symbolism, the use of masks, and other
techniques which would suggest the sharp division between the surface reality and the subconscious
mind" (Carpenter 52). While many people

Human Impact On Humans And Chimpanzees
The chimpanzee is one of the most interesting mammals on this earth. These animals are the cousins
of humans. According to the National Geographic chimpanzees share "98% of our DNA". This in
relative terms make humans and chimpanzees very alike, we are them and they are us. The
chimpanzee population inhabitants Africa. Although many believe that chimpanzees are monkeys,
they are great apes. (savethechimps.org). The chimpanzee population in the last few years has
diminished drastically and this has cause them to become endangered species. Like humans the
chimpanzees lives in "communities" they also have a hierarchy, and they consume a diet of
vegetables, meats and fruits. (savethechimps.org).
Although humans and chimpanzee are considered relatives, humans are one of the biggest threats to
the great ape. Humans are one of the biggest reasons the chimpanzee are endangered. According to
World Wildlife poaching is one of the biggest threats. Poaching means to hunt, kill and then
consume the chimpanzees. This gruesome act is usually done by "wealthy urban residents" who
desire to eat bushmeat. This is an expensive luxury that is costing the chimpanzee their lives and is
significantly decreasing their population. Another unlawful act happening to these great apes, their
young babies are being captured and sold for recreational pets.
The Scientific American discuss the illegal acts of the criminals who hurt these beautiful animals.
Even though many chimpanzees are captured to be

Jane Goodall's Theory Of Primate Behavior
Anthropologists over time recognized several physical and behavioral traits that connect humans to
other primates, but can primates learn to manipulate tools, imitate, cooperate, communicate, and
reason somewhat like humans? By studying the various characteristics of primate behavior among
their various societies, many scientists are able to induce a stronger understanding of human
relations among primates and further our knowledge and understandings about evolution. The
existence or nonexistence of cultural patterns in subhuman primates may best be determined by
observations amongst different primate groups in their natural habitats. "culture is dependent upon
the ability of an animal within a social group to acquire from another group member ... Show more

Anthropologists have come to understand the evolution of man's behavior by observing our closest
primates such as chimpanzees. Cooperative behavior among primates can have many similarities
and differences when compared to humans. Humans are intensively cooperative by communication
by languages and interactions with others. Nonhuman primates can very much communicate very
easily among their social groups, for example, the chimpanzee can very much strategically
cooperate much like human, and also the chimpanzee can spontaneously initiate and maintain
cooperative behaviors. Therefore are able to cooperate to reach a goal such as hunting for food or
scaring off dangerous predators. This cooperative trait can really show the intelligence of these
primates and how they are distinguished from other

Bipedalism In Children
I would like to teach children about the importance of bipedalism, since this is one unique trait that
separates us from other primates. Occasionally there is some primates that walk on two legs for
short periods of time but only humans can walk on a regular basis. By teaching children, the
anatomy of an Ape and human skeleton this will help them understand this unique trait. However,
the feature I will be discussing is the knee. Humans have a large Valgus angle; the angle the femur
makes. This angle brings our feet closer to gravity. Also we have wider Femoral condyles (point in
which bone pivots) this prevents side to side movement. On the other hand, Apes have a smaller
Valgus angle. When they walk on two legs this causes them to waddle.

Adelaide Zoo: Siamangs, Baboons, Orang-U
In this practical the aim was to go to the Adelaide Zoo and investigate whether a smaller sized
enclosure results in less active animal behaviour. The hypothesis is that if animals have a smaller
sized enclosure it results in less active animal behaviour. The group of animals chosen to study was
primates and the particular species are; Siamangs, Baboons, Orang–utans and Gibbons. These
animals were chosen because they all have different enclosure sizes so their behaviour can be
recorded and then compared. The practical involved a particular primate being observed and their
behaviour being recorded every minute, for fifteen minutes. Then the next animal was observed and
the process was repeated for all four primates, twice. The independent variables

Prosocial Behavior And Human Social Life
Tandis Moghadam 1 May 2015 Prosocial Behavior in Great Apes Prosocial behaviors are a huge
aspect to human social life; it involves helping, encouraging, and/or sharing information. Sympathy
and empathy are the main characteristics for prosocial behaviors. Sympathy portrays feelings of pity
and compassion for someone else's ill fortune, while empathy means having the ability to
understand and share the feelings of another. Sympathy and empathy are known to be crucial skills
needed to keep up with the complicated social life of humans. People who are sympathetic or
empathic are commonly more prone to act in prosocial ways and commonly less prone to convey
antisocial behaviors (i.e aggression). People have argued that humans are the only species that show
selfless behaviors, while others have proposed that it is impossible for selfless behaviors to only be
in humans. In article by Katja Liebal, Amrisha Vaish, Daniel Haun, and Michael Tomasello called,
"Does Sympathy Motivate Prosocial Behaviour in Great Apes?", these researchers studied whether
the prosocial behavior of four species of great apes (orangutans, gorillas, chimpanzees and bonobos)
is provoked by sympathy for others. The researchers wanted to find out whether or not the great
apes show more prosocial behavior towards a harmed species than towards a non–harmed species. A
higher prosocial behavior towards a harmed species would mean that sympathy leads prosocial
behavior in apes the same way it does in humans. They

The Similarities Between Primates And Chimpanzees
Primates can be defined as an order of mammals that includes apes, humans, monkeys, lemurs,
tarsiers and lorises. According to the evolutionary history, originally primates evolved from their
ancestors who lived on trees. Today there are approximately 235 species of primates, and they all
range in their habitats and sizes. Thus, the biggest primate is lowland gorilla, whose weight is
around 180 kilos, while the smallest one is mouse lemur living on Madagascar. Its weight is only 30
grams. There are different classifications of primates offered by scientists. However the most
common and widely accepted is the division of all primates into two groups: the prosimians and the
anthropoids. The prosimians that are also called as primitive primates ... Show more content on

The first arboreal theory was considered to be the dominant until it was question and other two
theories appeared. According to the arboreal theory, primate evolved in order to meet the needs of
arboreal life, which means a development of necessary senses or adapting already existing senses to
new life style. For example, since primates lived in the three–dimensional world, they needed a
good stereoscopic vision that would allow them easily move through the environment. Therefore,
the orbits of the first primates had been changed in order to achieve stereoscopic vision. Since the
vision has become a primary sense, the sense of smell has reduced and, as a result, the snout was
shortened. Its adaptation of the primates to the environment allowed them to survive. The second
theory known as the visual predation theory contradict the first theory and claims that all the
features of primates mentioned above, including grasping feet and hands, orbital convergence and
the reduced claws, were developed as a result of pressure to forage for insects and fruits in the forest
during the night time. For example, a good orbital vision allows primates to gauge the prey's
distance without additional moving of the head. The third theory is the most recent among all three
theories. According to this theory the primates have undergone the adaptive

The Ape In The Movie 'Planet Of The Apes'
Planet of the Apes
For my second essay I'll be talking about the movie that I watched Planet of the Apes. In this movie
human are made as slaves and the Apes control them. For this essay I'll be specifically talking about
a Ape in the movie that stood out to me the most. Which would be "Koba". He was an altered
bonobo with enormous hatred for humans. He had years of abuse and neglect. Due to all the abuse
that he had gone through from the humans, he was left with a scar over his left blind eye. Koba
wasn't just any regular Ape. He was liberated from captivity during the Ape Rebellion and
eventually became a prominent member of Caesar's colony of apes, as well as a member of the Ape
Council. As well Koba was the commanders in the Ape Army. So as you can see he was a very
strong headed, careless toward human's type of Ape. His outlook on other apes or humans was very
carless. His epiphany changed dramatically after what he went through personally. Kopa was
abused, and hurt so badly by humans, that he has no heart toward them at all, unlike Caesar.
There were many people who had epiphany in this movie, but obviously Kopa stood out to me the
most! When Caesar showed compassion and sympathy toward humans, Koba become angry and
overthrew Caesar. Which later led the apes to war with the humans.
When watching this film, and seeing how Koba was the ape that everyone was scared of, made me
wonder why. What made Koba have so much hatred? When evaluating his feelings,

Chimps Anthropology
Opening the documentary with scenes of chimpanzees navigating the forest while wielding
rudimentary spears is quite frightening. Often, it is thought that humans are the only species on
Earth that can make and utilize tools (such as weapons), and that is largely attributed to humans'
advanced bipedalism. However, chimps have begun to use stripped down branches that are then
sharpened by their teeth to hunt and catch a variety of prey. This means that chimps took distinct
steps to create a weapon and conduct a hunt, and that can be related to humans' early ancestors and
their rudimentary ways of life. This has major implications for two reasons: the first being that
chimps are advancing intellectually and possibly socially as they seem to organize ... Show more

Firstly, researchers conducted impulse control studies on chimps and humans. They placed two trays
of M&Ms on a table in front of a chimp and the chimp would point to which one they wanted. Then
the that bowl would be given to the chimp in the cage close by and the chimp that was pointing
would get the remaining one. Every single time the chimp chose the bowl with more M&Ms and
always got the one with less. They were not able to control their impulse to pick the opposite dish.
In the study on four–year olds, the proctor of the experiment explained that they were leaving the
room with the bigger bowl of candy and told the child that they could have it when the proctor
returned if they didn't eat the small bowl. The child could also ring the bell and the proctor would
come back sooner, but then the child would only get the small bowl. Results showed that the longer
the child resisted temptation, the higher their SAT scores were later. This reveals that humans do
possess at least some level of impulse control by age four, unlike that of chimpanzees. Humans also
became much less emotionally reactive through evolution meaning that we developed some control
over our emotions. Additionally, the experiment on chimps was expanded by teaching the chimps
how to count and then using the number symbols instead of physical candy. In that experiment the
chimps were able

How Media 's Influence On The Future Media Production For...
This essay will be looking at how media text used to be and how it is now as a case study for this
article Tarzan will be used. It will include how Tarzan become and what fans feel about the new
Movie 'The Legend of Tarzan'. Fandom and textual poaching will be used and it will explain how
the story of Tarzan comic and the movie The Legend of Tarzan has changed. In fact it will include a
reflection to the question whether my thoughts have changed through engaging with the case study
research and weather there will be a potential impact in the future media production for Tarzan.
Media used to be different from now it has changed in the past few years. One text is used in many
platform and in different ways but the character usually remain the same.
Fandom is not a new word it is in fact and old word that is hundred and thirteen years old, which
was used to describe a fan group that supported sports. In nowadays in the twentieth century it has
become well known for groups that are passionate with movie stars, music and movies such as Star
Wars, Superman and Harry Potter.
Fandom refers to collective fans that might have something in common such as same interest in
games, same genre movies or even having the same hobby. Fandom can be a subculture because
people in a fandom can feel very solid as a group. In a fandom only the keenest fans are counted in
instead of everyone that enjoys a hobby in common.

The Planet Of The Apes Film Analysis
Apes Together Strong! What Could Come Next For The Planet Of The Apes Franchise "Apes.
Together. Strong!" [Contains Spoilers for War for the Planet of the Apes] After three films, Caesar's
arc has come to a close in War for the Planet of the Apes. Suffering unspeakable losses, #Caesar
(Andy Serkis) sets out to redeem his soul. Joining him on his journey – much to his chagrin – are his
three friends #Rocket (Terry Notary), #Maurice (Karin Konoval) and #Luca (Michael
Adamthwaite). Despite telling his friends not follow him, Caesar is somewhat glad to have his
friends with him. The film is emotional, at times fun (thanks to the comedic antics of Steve Zahn's
#BadApe) and very much the western adventure we were promised by #MattReeves. With Caesar's
arc now wrapped up, it was referenced well before the film's release that a fourth film could come
our way. However, how would this adventure play out? Let's explore the factors, shall we?
Cornelius Carries On His Father's Legacy Young #Cornelius has started his life in the middle of a
war. His brother and mother are both murdered and his father is fatally wounded. Planet of the Apes
fans will likely remember, Roddy McDowall's Caesar didn't have a good start to life either. His
parents were murdered a day or two after his birth and Armando raises him under the name Caesar.
While McDowall's Caesar bear resemblance to the most recent Caesar, he also resembles young
Cornelius. How? Well, let's take a peek. After the deaths

Gibbons Book Report
In this monograph The Gibbons of Khao Yai, Thad Q Bartlett records all of his own notes about the
small apes, also known as the gibbons, in their own natural habitat in the national park of Khao Yai,
Thailand. Before he wrote this book, primatologists had hypothesized about a correlation between
territoriality and monogamy in the gibbons and believed that it was due to the small fruiting trees
and figs. Bartlett had taken an interest in the gibbons, and made a goal to contradict this hypothesis
by studying the gibbons up close, and better understand how the availability of food affected their
behaviors and ecology. Bartlett began his field study by focusing on the fauna and environment that
they live in, which was the Mo Singto study area. Gibbons are known as mostly frugivorous
primates, as they mainly thrive on figs and leaves, but Bartlett noted that gibbons could also
supplement themselves with insects and leaves, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The gibbons had shown to have friendly encounters with other gibbons when other resources like
insects, leaves and ripe fruit were available. Although, when the fruit was scarce, they displayed
more territorial tendencies, and the encounters became more hostile and agonistic. These
observations are what led to the suggestion of "resource defense" being an important aspect of
territoriality in gibbons (pg. 119). Regarding the uniqueness of their monogamous lifestyle, Bartlett
mainly referred to the predictions from other primatologists about how gibbons live in their small
groups. He referred to Wright's predictions in particular about how the gibbons created their own
small groups for the sake of having enough food resources. Eventually, Bartlett came to his own
conclusion in that the gibbons' monogamy were likely out of a "dietary preference for rare but stable
resources" (Bartlett: ??? pg.

Ape Vs Gorillas Research Paper
Ape vs Gorilla An Ape and a Gorilla are two of many in the Great Apes group, Gorillas seem to be
very tall and durable. While, Apes however seem to be very small and weak/fragile. Let's take a look
on some more of their differences.
Gorillas and Apes might be very similar, but their looks on the other hand are very, very different.
First, Gorillas are massive omnivores going around "6 feet and 2 inches tall and coming in at a
whopping 350 pounds!"(Ann Elwood). Their fur is a dark black everywhere except their back, on
their back the fur is a shiny dark silver, hence the name "SilverBack Gorilla". Nonetheless, there is
the mighty Ape. They are small and fragile. . .at least compared to the gorilla!

William Oneill 's The Hairy Ape
Often times literature is used to reflect historical events of the time period in which the piece is
written. Examining artifacts such as books, plays, or music is a way to gain insight into the social,
political, and cultural attitudes of that time period. An example of a primary source of the 1920s
would be Eugene Oneill's the Hairy Ape. In this play, the main character Yank falls victim to a
technological movement, the Industrial Revolution. New ideas, technologies, and cultures were
emerging, and Yank has to deal with the adversity of post WWI America.
The play begins with a scene that incudes firemen working in the engine room of a ship talking
amongst each other. This scene is depicts the transformation from human labor to machines, ...

In Scene 1 he believes he is self–confident, powerful and strong, that he has the ability to make a
difference the world. Yank truly believes he is what keeps society running smoothly. The United
States had just won the first major world war and transformed themselves into an official world
superpower, so the general vibe and attitude throughout the country was a positive one. However, as
the play progresses, Yank slowly realizes how little impact his single soul can make. By the time he
is kicked out of the Industrial Workers of the World (I.W.W.) office in Scene 7, he feels as though he
is a broken machine that can no longer do work. Near the end of Scene 7 he says, "I'm a busted
Ingersoll, dat 's what. Steel was me, and I owned de woild. Now I ain 't steel, and de woild owns me.
Aw, hell! I can 't see–it 's all dark, get me? It 's all wrong!" (O'Neill 297). O'Neill uses Yank to
symbolize how people lose hope for a better future when the world does not care about them. The
workers of the 1920s were being exploited and downgraded into apes. Many immigrants traveled to
the United States with ambition and passion in search of a better life. After being greeted by the
breathtaking beauty of the Statue of Liberty, what awaited these immigrants was life in the factories.
The factories were crowded, poorly ventilated, and workers faced long hours for low wages. Just

Animal Forms Of Communication As Less Complex Or...
As humans, we find it easy to conclude that we are the smartest, most superior beings on the planet.
What is it that makes us so certain that this is true? Animals do not speak our language, so we make
the judgment that they are less. If we look beyond our own form of verbal communication, we may
find that the domesticated animals we keep as pets are trying to communicate with us sometimes,
especially dogs. Do they not greet us at the door, running with a wagging tail? Do they not try to
warn and ward off potential intruders? Do they not want to eat whatever it is that a person is eating,
even if that means licking crumbs off the plate just before it goes in the dish washer? Cats
communicate through habits of their own – they purr and hiss. Why do we evaluate animal forms of
communication as less complex or intelligent than our own? Though we often see non–human
animals as inferior, viewing their intelligence as fundamentally different from our own, imagining
them as incapable of communicating in a way similar to humans, and focusing on differences in
physical form and societal structure, humans and other animals are far more similar than we might
think. Particular similarities exist between humans and primates. In the book Evolution and Human
Behavior: Darwinian Perspectives on Human Nature, John Cartwright writes, "In terms of the amino
acid sequences in a range of blood proteins, and hence the genes responsible, we are virtually
identical to chimpanzees" (162–4).

The Planet Of The Apes
The Planet of the Apes franchise completely overtook the film industry starting in 1968, after the
original film hit theaters. Since then, there has been a reboot, two sequels, merchandise, and even a
TV series. This film was such a success for many reasons– its clever allegories to race, religion, and
politics, the phenomenal makeup and costume design, the world–building that was almost unheard
of in 1968 (maybe even giving inspiration for the world–building in the first Star Wars film which
hit theaters in 1977), you name it. However, there is one thing above all that comes to the mind of
both film buffs and newbies alike when one thinks of the original Planet of the Apes–– and that is
the phenomenal twist ending. Planet of the Apes is a science fiction film that surrounds the journey
of astronaut George Taylor, who landed his ship on a planet that he concludes exists in a completely
different time than earth when he departed. On his quest, Taylor loses the three astronauts that were
travelling with him and realizes that this planet is ran completely by a civilized society of apes, and
he found the humans to be mute, savage, and animalistic. The film follows Taylor as he is captured
by this literate community of apes and attempts to understand how this world came to be. After
forming an animosity with Dr. Zaius, the orangutan minister of science, who seemed to fear the idea
of humans gaining intelligence, Taylor escaped his capture in search of the reason why this planet

Similarities Between Humans And Primates
Some people find it odd that humans classify as a primates. Similarity can be seen through our
bodies if we really look into it. Humans have all the features that classify as a primate and an ape.
For example, our hands has a thumb that helps us separate the rest of our fingers to allow us to grip
a firm hold of items tightly. We has humans have the same too, see our thumbs makes it easy for us
to hold on glass, books, and anything that we need to keep a firm hold of. We also have similarities
when it comes down to hunting. We use tools to hunt for our food and make a wise decision on how
we do it. The apes also do that, according to Jill Pruetz Iowa State University and her partner
watched the apes to see how they hunt for food. She observed ... Show more content on

The pointing fingers is when humans try to understand what babies want they tend to point at
something and look up at you to see if they can get that item. Chimps couldn't do that no matter how
many times they kept practicing they seemed not to understand the system at all. They also lack on
cheering each other up, if one does something amazing they would just copy what that individual
did but not cheer them on. I never knew that gorilla and bonobo would ever understand our
language. I always thought they had their own way of speaking only, but now I can finally
understand that they are very similar to us humans. I can say that they are bilingual. You can say that
Gorilla and humans can understand each other and have conversation now. The Gorilla Foundation

they demonstrate that gorillas and humans can understand one another on a much deeper level than

The Great Ape Protection And Cost Saving Act
From Thought to Testing: A Discussion of The Great Ape Protection and Cost Saving Act One of the
most proliferated quotes in western philosophy is Descartes declaration of "Cogito Ergo Sum." In
the preceding mediation he strips down to what he believes is the foundation of knowledge. As
much as this is quoted and used particularly in discussions of the mind, Descartes proceeding
building on that foundation is left the wayside. He uses different thought experiments, such as his
examination of wax melting, to assert that through sense it can be determined that other bodies exist
and therefore it is not unreasonable to think other 'thinking things' exist as well. But more intelligent
people than I have analysed and written at length about fallacies in the arguments including the
infamous declaration. Yet I find there is a really beautiful takeaway in the meditations and it is
empathy. Empathy allows us to know that there are other 'thinking things' in reality. Where does that
leave the Great Ape Protection and Cost Saving Act? Anecdotally, whenever I see any ape, I have a
different emotional response than I do to other animals. It is almost a feeling of respect and awe. For
instance, when I have been to the zoo and an ape came up the glass and we looked into each others
eyes, it felt different than looking to a mouse's, drosophila's, or any other animal's that is used for
animal testing. Based purely off this, this limit on research seems justified. But stepping into the

Analysis of the Film The Rise of the Planet of the Apes Essay
The movie that I choose to watch is "The Rise of the Planet of the Apes". In class we learned that
primates have different categories. The categories include; movement, reproduction, intelligence and
behavior patterns. In the movie, the main ape, Caesar, as well as the other primates in the movie
shows examples of these categories. Although, like most modern day movies, some behaviors and
characteristics are not true and do not relate to the material that we studied in class.
This film was made in 2011 starring James Franco as the main character, Dr. Will Rodman. The

first day that he brought Caesar home, Caesar already knew the correct way to hold a bottle and feed
himself. By the age of three, Caesar was doing tasks that normal eight year old children would do.
Impressed with the results Will was finding from Caesar, Will takes a chance and steals some of the
ALZ–112 from the lab to bring home to Charles. After giving the shot to his father, his father
quickly recovered and no longer had any symptoms relating to Alzheimer's disease. Unfortunately
the medicine did not permanently cure Charles, years later he returned back to his old ways. When
Caesar looks outside his window, he sees Charles getting yelled at by neighbor. Protective over
Charles, Caesar runs outside and attacks the man, which resulted in Caesar being taken away from
his "family" and imprisoned in an ape sanctuary.
While begin in the sanctuary, Caesar along with the other apes are not treated very well. From the
mistreatment, Caesar starts to make plans about how to escape. He would draw on the walls of his

possibility that the origins of spoken language are not exclusively human..." Through this statement,
we can see that this discovery with Rocky may indicate that the origins of spoken language could
have begun by the great apes. There is no definite answer to whether or not the spoken language did
start with monkeys. However, I believe that this could be a possibility.

idea of how all good things twist to them has and things are not always what they seem.
The production used in the scene of the murder of the two soldiers by their leader in the swamp land
creates tension. To begin the scene an establishing shot of the 3 apes with the town in the
background is used, this suggests it is not of public knowledge and is of importance. Close–ups of
the ape general are used to show his dominance, as well as wit and cunning ability. A mid–shot, in a
low angle position is used to show the area destroyed by Leo's shuttle, during this shot a tilt and
zoom in is used to maximise the effect and the tension created. This shot also shows power, as well
as the relevance of what is being viewed. Before the general murders the 2 ape soldiers a long shot
of the 3 apes is used, where the general is walking towards the camera, this signifies the general's
importance and that he is creating a plan, the fact that the 2 soldier's backs are turned suggests they
are completely blind to the general's mid–reparation. The next shot is a close–up of the weapons the
general is to use in the killing; this shows their potential power and inclines the viewers mind to
think of the devastation they could cause. During the murder a low–angle of the soldiers

Pros And Cons Of Humans And Chimpanzees
It is awful even just to picture how chimpanzees are being anesthetized for more than hundred times
and being put in a small, barren cage for the sake of biomedical science. Chimpanzees are our
closest living relatives both biologically and socially (Stanford et. al., 2017). Humans and
chimpanzees shares lots of similarities genetically and that is one of the reasons why many scientists
use chimpanzees for medical science research. This is also the most important reason on why people
who are informed about the similarities between human and chimpanzees put a very special value to
chimpanzees. The usage of chimpanzees for scientific research has been declining internationally,
but chimps are still being used as subjects for biomedical research in the United States
("Alternatives to Chimp Testing," 2008). In 2012, there was a bill called the Great Ape Protection
Act (GAPA) to restrict the use of chimpanzees in biomedical research in the United States. There are
huge debates whether this bill is necessary or not. Without us realizing, we actually have moral
obligations to chimpanzees. Thus, all laws that against and restrict chimpanzees testing, such as the
Great Ape Protection Act (GAPA) plays an important role and we should support the bills and laws
because of several reasons. First, laws that protect chimpanzees from invasive research should be
supported simply because of the fact that chimps are really similar to humans. They are our kin.
Thus, some justifications are

Primates Family Structure
Primates come from the order of mammals and are defined based on the morphology of the group of
animals. Morphology is the branch of biology that concerns the study of the structures and forms of
various organisms based on their structural features. The study involves both the internal and
external primary functions of the structures of an organism including the parts. According to the
identification of primate's family they are divided based on the generalized and the specialized
features of the organisms (Russell 2015). The generalized features of the organisms are the common
traits that identify the organisms to the specific family of primates. These are the characteristics that
the entire organism that is considered to be primates possess ... Show more content on

However, they are smaller than the chimpanzees and have blacker hair which contains tufts
especially around the faces, legs, and arms (Chiarelli 2014). They also have slimmer bodies and use

and very aggressive than the chimpanzees. They engage in face to face sexual intercourse for both
the heterosexual and homosexual communities. The bonobos are also under a threat from the rapid

Apes Vs Gorillas Research Paper
What two animals are like humans, but different from each other? Are Apes different from Gorillas?
Are Gorillas more like humans than Apes? Apes is not the same animal as Gorillas. Gorillas are
more like humans, but they are the hairy version of humans.
First, Apes and Gorillas have a lot of characteristics, and features. An average Ape is 5 feet, 8
inches, or 5 feet, 9 inches. Apes have 2 legs, but they use their arms as 2 extra pair of legs, medium
size muscles, 5 fingers of each hand, and 5 toes on each foot. Apes can be many colors black, tanish,
and dark brown. An average Ape weighs 150 lbs. Apes are classified as Mammals. An average
Gorilla is 6 feet, and 2 inches. Gorillas have 2 legs, really big muscles, 2 arms, 5 fingers on each

How Do Chimpanzees Affect Humans
Did you know that chimpanzees are 98.5 % human? Everyone usually thinks chimpanzees are
monkeys, but they are actually apes. Chimpanzees act more like human than apes. Chimpanzees are
very aggressive because they have to always be aware of their surroundings. Male chimpanzees
usually weigh 40–60 pound and females usually weigh 27–50 pounds. You might think they are
small because they don't weigh that much but when you see one in person they look huge and

Genetic Changes In Animals
Evolution is a story that is often told in books, films, and school. It is only normal that when being
taught something at such a young age that one will only begin to believe what is being taught. The
story of evolution, which states that humans come from monkeys, is a bit of a controversial one.
Humans did not evolve from monkeys, nor did they evolve from chimpanzees or any other type of
primate extant today. Animals alive today are not the same animals that existed when humans were
first recorded. The ancestors of what one would call a monkey today would not have not looked like
a monkey. Not only is there a misconception of the story evolution but there is also proof that
humans did not evolve from monkeys such as the false identification of what was thought to be a
monkey, the splitting and extinction of primates, the consistent changing of animals, and mutation.
Thousands of years ago there were numerous of animals with different features and ways of living.

In order for the mutation to be beneficial, it must improve the animal to its environment. As the
genetic changes occurred the animals began to change. The animals that grew larger tended to live
more on land than in the trees, because living in the trees was more physically strenuous, and
because living on land offered resources that the trees did not provide. Eventually, those animals that
lived on land learned, due partially to an ever larger evolving brain that objects in nature could be

Rise Of The Planet Of Apes Essay
Through watching the movie Rise of the Planet of the Apes, one can compare and contrast primate
behavior both in the film and in reality. An analysis of the movie leads one to conclude there are
many areas of contrast. Aspects that are considered within the analysis are locomotion, morphology,
vocalizations, behavior, intelligence, and genes. In addition to the compare and contrast portion of
my research I also examined the pandemic in the film and it's biological aspects. Through
examination of those aspects I was able to formulate a hypothesis on how a "Planet of Apes" could
occur. Before delving into elements of the pandemic, we must first examine primate behavior.
Starting with morphology, both chimpanzees in the film and in reality have nostrils that face
downwards and tubular ear bones (Borja). Their teeth are similar to that of humans', but their
canines are larger. Additionally, they both are dark in color with pale faces. However, chimps in the
film and in real life differ when it comes to locomotion. Every now and then chimpanzees use

Issues arise with this because how is it that Caesar's mother passed down the gene to him through
pregnancy? An investigation of these issues will be discussed in the latter portion of this paper.
Going back to the research, vocalization and complex speech are seen in the film. While
chimpanzees in our world do not talk, as in complex speech, they do use vocalizations and
utterances. In the film, many of the primates used only utterances, and very few knew how to sign.
But, for Caesar who was born with the ALZ–112 in his DNA from the gene therapy, used complex
speech towards the end of the movie. The first word he said was "No!" which sounded clear, as well
as human like. He also used complex speech to say, "Caesar is home" to the human that raised him,

The scientific name is Ateles geoffroyi. The spider monkeys found in the Fort Worth Zoo originated
from Alabama excluding one that originated from South Dakota. The total length of their bodies
including the head and tail is about 5ft long. These primates weigh roughly 13 to 25 lbs. The largest
spider monkey has an average weight of 24 lbs for males and 21.3 lbs for females. Size is the main
feature that one can use to distinguish between a male and a female. Their body colour ranges from
gold to red, brown, black and grey. The hands and limbs are commonly black. Their heads are lesser
with receding faces. The adenoids are spaced widely apart and hence a differentiating characteristic
of spider monkeys. Spider monkeys have a predatory tail which may be up to 89 cm (35 in) long
unlike the chimpanzees. Due to the lack of a thumb, the tail covers up for the thumb. This tail can be
put into use just like an arm to hold and grasp objects. The feature on the tail which enables the
monkey to hang safely with hands–free in the air is the corpulent pack on its bottom side. This fat

quite. It is a big, hairy walking ape. Although the United States National Park Service says that
skunk apes are a hoax, it's obvious that they are real because there are pictures and articles that
prove that they do exist. The skunk ape is a hominid cryptid; It is a very tall animal. The males can
be up to seven feet tall and weigh 350 pounds. The females can grow up to six feet and weigh up to
250 pounds (Shealy). Both genders seem to be strong animals. They are considered a bipedal animal
since they have two feet and each foot has five toes (Nickell). It is said that they smell horrible. The
following excerpt describes the skunk ape's particular smell, "...distinguished as "smelly," ... "rancid,
putrid odor," like "that of rotten food and dead animal" ... having "the usual scent of cabbage and
rotten eggs" (Nickell). They smell like this because they hang out in swamps with other nasty
creatures. As far as their habitat, they are found throughout Florida. They occupy places like the
Everglades, swamps, alligator caves or national parks. According to a web article, "They have been
spotted as far north as Tallahassee and as far south as Lostman's River" (Shealy). It's crazy to think
that they could be so close to us. The following quotation is from the Skunkape Headquarters

Planet of the Apes Essay
Planet of the Apes
When Planet of the Apes opened in theaters, few people knew what to expect. To most, the idea of a
movie with the premise of a planet full of intelligent apes went against everything they had been
taught. The initial attraction was the superb cast, spearheaded by Charlton Heston who portrays
Taylor, an astronaut who crashes onto the planet. Heston was joined by many popular actors and
actress such as, Roddy McDowell as Cornelius, Maurice Evans as Dr. Zaius and Kim Hunter as
Zira. Though the cast may have been the initial draw, the content is what has made the movie Planet
of the Apes a classic that will continue to be enjoyed for generations to come.

To us, having one individual controlling both seems not only preposterous, but also dangerous. The
American mind immediately concludes that a system such as this will lead to stagnation in science,
and close–mindedness in religion.
In Planet of the Apes this stagnation does occur. When a young upstart scientist named Cornelius
tries to attack the religiously based view of life in his society he is brought up on charges of heresy.
Cornelius merely attempted to state that he had found evidence that apes had evolved from man.
Defender of the faith Dr. Zaius then quickly ended the hearings and threatened Cornelius with
charges of hearsay. This is a direct link to our own past. Charles Darwin challenged religions view
on the origins of life in the 1800's, and frighteningly similar things occurred to him.
This is what Planet of the Apes attempts to do, and accomplishes so thoroughly. It mirrors things
that have happened in our own world, yet portrays them in a way that makes humanity's own
shortcomings more palatable. Yet, there are two ways of interpreting the lessons the film teaches. On
one level, Planet of the Apes blatantly warns individuals not to repeat the past. While on another
level, the director could be interpreted to be stating subtly that we did not learn from our past and
are therefore doomed to repeat it. These interpretations wholly depend on the individual seeing the
film.

Language Acquisition : The Great Apes
It is often believed that language is a primary differentiating factor between humans and other
animals. While the unique structure of the human vocal tract does not allow for other animals to
replicate our language in an auditory manner, recent studies have shown that species in the family
Pongidae, also known as the "great apes," are capable of using language in a visual way. Some
researchers are trying to show that species such as gorillas, chimpanzees, bonobos, and orangutans
are able to learn sign language and use it to communicate with humans. Evolutionarily, the great
apes are our closest living relatives, so studies of their linguistic ability could be used to show that
we are more related than previously thought. The largest obstacle in great ape language acquisition
has been vocabulary. In the past, attempts to teach them to use spoken language has yielded
extremely limited results; however, attempts to teach symbolic language (especially human sign
language) have been incredibly successful (Patterson & Cohn 1990). It is interesting to note that
sign language acquisition in great apes shares similarities with language acquisition in human
children. For example, a chimpanzee named Washoe showed overgeneralization in her use of signs
during her early learning stages that can be compared to perceptual classifications in children
(Patterson 1978). Chimpanzee research has shown that, like young children, chimpanzees acquire
gestual language in stages, such as combining

Old World Monkeys
Monkey, any of a large and varied group of mammals of the primate order. The term monkey
includes all primates that do not belong to the categories human, ape, or prosimian; however,
monkeys do have certain common features. All are excellent climbers, and most are primarily
arboreal. Nearly all live in tropical or subtropical climates. Unlike most of the prosimians, or lower
primates, they are almost all day–active animals. Their faces are usually flat and rather human in
appearance, their eyes point forward, and they have stereoscopic color vision. Their hands and feet
are highly developed for grasping; the big toes and, where present, the thumbs are opposable. Nearly
all have flat nails. Monkeys habitually sit in an erect posture. Unlike the apes, most cannot swing
arm–over–arm (the spider monkey is an exception) but move about in trees by running along the
branches on all fours; their skeletal structure is similar to that of other four–footed animals.
Monkeys live in troops of up to several hundred individuals and travel about in search of food,
having no permanent shelter. As in apes and humans, the female has a monthly reproductive cycle,

Do Primates Posses Culture? Essays
Writing Assignment One––Do primates posses culture?
I think that if culture is defined as learned behavior, than it is reasonable to say that primates posses
a form of culture. Primates have been observed making tools to aid in collecting food and
developing communication system, both of which are learned behaviors.
It is common in monkeys, apes and humans that behavior and social organization aren't necessarily
programmed into the genes. There have been several cases where an entire troop has learned from
the experiences of just a few. In a group of Japanese macaques, for example, a three–year–old
female female developed the habit of washing dirt of of sweet potatoes before she ... Show more

This kind of practice goes beyond animal instinct.
Another highly developed practice is 'terminating'. Chimps carefully choose the right kind of twig to
probe the termite hills with. They modify the twig by peeling off the bark to expose the sticky
surface. Then they dig holes with their fingers, stick the twig in and fish around until the have
enough termites on their twig to have a meal.
Terminating takes time, and their are many Gombe chimps that have never mastered it. Only certain
types of twigs will work for the job. Also, once the twig is in the hill and the chimp judges that the
termites are crawling on its surface, the chimp has to quickly flip the twig as he pulls it out so that
the termites are on top, otherwise they would all fall off.
The cultural transmission of a communication system through learning is a fundamental attribute of
language. Trained chimpanzee's Washoe and Lucy have tried to teach Ameslan to other animals,
including their own offspring. Washoe has taught gestures to other chimps at the institute where she
is, including her son, Sequoia, who died when he was very young. There has been other cases of
cultural transmission from chimp to chimp.
Chimps and gorillas have at least a simple capacity for langueage. They may never have invented a

Analysis Of Through A Window By Jane Goodall
Connections within Jane Goodall's "Through a Window"
Throughout the term, reading the book, "Through a Window" by Jane Goodall has been quite
intriguing for me, in that it has inspired me with new ideas and perceptions about how our own
species has evolved over time. I have really enjoyed seeing the many similarities that hominids
share with other primate species, especially chimpanzees. Goodall's research only further proves that
we are not only extremely biologically similar to chimpanzees in our DNA, but have many
behavioral similarities as well. The film, "Monkey in the Mirror" also shows support for our likeness
in intellectuality. These documented findings on chimpanzee and human resemblances provides the
strong evidence needed to conclude the fact that humans do indeed share a common ancestor with
great apes.
I found Goodall's chapter Mothers and Daughters very fascinating, and caught my interest the most
because I immediately found myself making connections within my own life and experiences.
Goodall compared the parenting styles of the two mothers, Flo, and Passion. These two chimps have
completely opposite ways of raising their young, with Flo being very loving, nurturing, and caring
of her daughter Fifi, while Passion was a very cold, harsh, and intolerant mother to her daughter,
Pom. You can easily see the dramatic difference in how their childhood shaped the two chimpanzees
in their adulthood, just how we commonly see this in humans as well. Fifi had a

The Ethical Ethics Of Life Without Zoos And Aquariums
Think for an instance about life without zoos or aquariums. You might cheer because of the thought
that the animals are free, you may feel upset because you will no longer see your favorite animal, or
perhaps you could feel indifferent. Nonetheless, zoos and aquariums are a humane and essential
resource to understanding our life, our species, and our world. Constructing zoos and aquariums are
an ethical and beneficial practice because they are places that provide human contact with nature
and animals without harming the animals' habitats, they prohibit endangered animals from becoming
extinct and conserve the animals' population, and they improve the health of the animals. Zoos and

"Ultimately, endangered species will only be saved by preserving their habitat and combating the
reasons they are killed by people. Instead of patronizing zoos, it is better to support groups like the
International Primate Protection League, the Born Free Foundation, Earth Island Institute, and other
groups that work to preserve habitats." (Source H) First of all, if an animal in a zoo is considered a
dangerous threat to the locals, then the animal in question should be further examined, and, if
dangerous enough, then yes, it should be eliminated. Secondly, a few accurate validations that prove
that zoos and aquariums genuinely sustain the habitats of the animals. As written in "Polar Bears
International and AZA Form Partnership to Inspire Action on Climate Change," "PBI is providing
funding, resources, educational programming and guest speakers, including the world's leading
polar bear scientists, to the zoos in order to create or enhance educational Arctic displays. AZA is
committing to utilize these resources to grow stewardship in their communities and increase
research which may assist in the conservation of polar bears in the wild." (Source C) Zoos and
aquariums do have a positive effect to them, not exhibited in PETA's article; zoos and aquariums
defend their animals' habitats, if not increase the efforts to preserve them! Furthermore, some may
see zoos and aquariums as a means of profiteering and entertainment. Illustrated in "Free the Killer
Whale" by Jane Velez–Mitchell, she proclaims the following: "When it comes to animal
exploitation––follow the money. Using animals for entertainment is big business, plain and simple.
The killer whale Tilikum has helped SeaWorld sell millions of dollars worth of tickets." (Source G)

The Violence And Human Violence

  • 1. The Violence And Human Violence 20th century is the most educated century but also the most violent over the history of mankind. The lethal violence has been increasing over the course of mammal evolution. The aggression in mammals, that includes humans, also has a genetic component with high heritability. So it is widely admitted that evolution has shaped human violence. And this violence is not among different species, it is among the same species. Of all the world species, humans and chimpanzees are some the only species that engage themselves in coordinated attacks on the other members of the same species. We, humans, are not the only ones that are involved in the homicides, massacres, terrorism, and human violence. Like humans, chimpanzees also engage in rape, murders, and violence. The patterns of violence that is found among the humans are compared and contrasted with the great ape species. Whether it is for food/resource sharing, dominance structure, territory or the male competition for sexual access to females. Both human and chimpanzee want to prove their status what becomes a reason for a great number of wars and aggressiveness (Wrangham and Peterson, 1996). What are the similarities between the chimpanzees and the humans that are certainly not true of all animals? What gives our own species such violent males? As humans are genetically related to the Great Apes, my focus of this paper would be tracking the evolutionary history of violence in the Apes and how it originated in the humans later ... • 3. Essay about Methods of Characterization in The Hairy Ape Methods of Characterization in The Hairy Ape Eugene Gladstone O'Neill was born October 16, 1888, to Irish–American parents in New York City. His mother, Ella O'Neill, reserved and genteel (Sheaffer 15), came from a prosperous Cleveland family. His father, James O'Neill, from a poor family, was an actor who became synonymous with Dumas' Count of Monte Cristo, a role he performed over 3000 times (Sheaffer 8). Driven by fear of poverty, James worked nonstop and constantly tried his hand at get–rich–quick schemes, such as buying and selling real estate. Eugene had one older brother James. During Eugene's early years, the family toured around the country with James Sr.'s acting company and spent each summer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... O'Neill married Agnes Boulton in 1918, and Shane Rudraight O'Neill was born October 20, 1922. O'Neill won his first Pulitzer Prize for Beyond the Horizon (1920). He won two more for Anna Christie (1922) and Strange Interlude (1928) and one posthumously for Long Day's Journey into Night (1957). In 1929, O'Neill divorced Agnes and married Carlotta Monterey, his third and final wife. O'Neill received the Nobel Prize for literature in 1936, recognition of his work as possibly America's most influential dramatist. Later in his life he developed Parkinson's disease which severely hampered his ability to write. In November 1953, O'Neill developed pneumonia. Exhausted, he was confined to a room in a Boston hotel. Shortly before he died, he sat up and cried, "I knew it, I knew it! Born in a [hotel room] and dying in a hotel room!" (Sheaffer 24). He died November 27. The Hairy Ape (1921) chronicles "the social snobbishness" (Carpenter 31) Eugene O'Neill encountered during his stints as a crewmember on passenger liners to and from Europe. For The Hairy Ape, O'Neill took cues from the expressionists and "employed [techniques] of anti–realism" such as "the conscious use of symbolism, the use of masks, and other techniques which would suggest the sharp division between the surface reality and the subconscious mind" (Carpenter 52). • 5. Human Impact On Humans And Chimpanzees The chimpanzee is one of the most interesting mammals on this earth. These animals are the cousins of humans. According to the National Geographic chimpanzees share "98% of our DNA". This in relative terms make humans and chimpanzees very alike, we are them and they are us. The chimpanzee population inhabitants Africa. Although many believe that chimpanzees are monkeys, they are great apes. (savethechimps.org). The chimpanzee population in the last few years has diminished drastically and this has cause them to become endangered species. Like humans the chimpanzees lives in "communities" they also have a hierarchy, and they consume a diet of vegetables, meats and fruits. (savethechimps.org). Although humans and chimpanzee are considered relatives, humans are one of the biggest threats to the great ape. Humans are one of the biggest reasons the chimpanzee are endangered. According to World Wildlife poaching is one of the biggest threats. Poaching means to hunt, kill and then consume the chimpanzees. This gruesome act is usually done by "wealthy urban residents" who desire to eat bushmeat. This is an expensive luxury that is costing the chimpanzee their lives and is significantly decreasing their population. Another unlawful act happening to these great apes, their young babies are being captured and sold for recreational pets. The Scientific American discuss the illegal acts of the criminals who hurt these beautiful animals. Even though many chimpanzees are captured to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Jane Goodall's Theory Of Primate Behavior Anthropologists over time recognized several physical and behavioral traits that connect humans to other primates, but can primates learn to manipulate tools, imitate, cooperate, communicate, and reason somewhat like humans? By studying the various characteristics of primate behavior among their various societies, many scientists are able to induce a stronger understanding of human relations among primates and further our knowledge and understandings about evolution. The existence or nonexistence of cultural patterns in subhuman primates may best be determined by observations amongst different primate groups in their natural habitats. "culture is dependent upon the ability of an animal within a social group to acquire from another group member ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Anthropologists have come to understand the evolution of man's behavior by observing our closest primates such as chimpanzees. Cooperative behavior among primates can have many similarities and differences when compared to humans. Humans are intensively cooperative by communication by languages and interactions with others. Nonhuman primates can very much communicate very easily among their social groups, for example, the chimpanzee can very much strategically cooperate much like human, and also the chimpanzee can spontaneously initiate and maintain cooperative behaviors. Therefore are able to cooperate to reach a goal such as hunting for food or scaring off dangerous predators. • 9. Bipedalism In Children I would like to teach children about the importance of bipedalism, since this is one unique trait that separates us from other primates. Occasionally there is some primates that walk on two legs for short periods of time but only humans can walk on a regular basis. By teaching children, the anatomy of an Ape and human skeleton this will help them understand this unique trait. However, the feature I will be discussing is the knee. Humans have a large Valgus angle; the angle the femur makes. This angle brings our feet closer to gravity. Also we have wider Femoral condyles (point in which bone pivots) this prevents side to side movement. On the other hand, Apes have a smaller Valgus angle. When they walk on two legs this causes them to waddle. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Adelaide Zoo: Siamangs, Baboons, Orang-U In this practical the aim was to go to the Adelaide Zoo and investigate whether a smaller sized enclosure results in less active animal behaviour. The hypothesis is that if animals have a smaller sized enclosure it results in less active animal behaviour. The group of animals chosen to study was primates and the particular species are; Siamangs, Baboons, Orang–utans and Gibbons. These animals were chosen because they all have different enclosure sizes so their behaviour can be recorded and then compared. The practical involved a particular primate being observed and their behaviour being recorded every minute, for fifteen minutes. Then the next animal was observed and the process was repeated for all four primates, twice. The independent variables ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Prosocial Behavior And Human Social Life Tandis Moghadam 1 May 2015 Prosocial Behavior in Great Apes Prosocial behaviors are a huge aspect to human social life; it involves helping, encouraging, and/or sharing information. Sympathy and empathy are the main characteristics for prosocial behaviors. Sympathy portrays feelings of pity and compassion for someone else's ill fortune, while empathy means having the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. Sympathy and empathy are known to be crucial skills needed to keep up with the complicated social life of humans. People who are sympathetic or empathic are commonly more prone to act in prosocial ways and commonly less prone to convey antisocial behaviors (i.e aggression). People have argued that humans are the only species that show selfless behaviors, while others have proposed that it is impossible for selfless behaviors to only be in humans. In article by Katja Liebal, Amrisha Vaish, Daniel Haun, and Michael Tomasello called, "Does Sympathy Motivate Prosocial Behaviour in Great Apes?", these researchers studied whether the prosocial behavior of four species of great apes (orangutans, gorillas, chimpanzees and bonobos) is provoked by sympathy for others. The researchers wanted to find out whether or not the great apes show more prosocial behavior towards a harmed species than towards a non–harmed species. A higher prosocial behavior towards a harmed species would mean that sympathy leads prosocial behavior in apes the same way it does in humans. They ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. The Similarities Between Primates And Chimpanzees Primates can be defined as an order of mammals that includes apes, humans, monkeys, lemurs, tarsiers and lorises. According to the evolutionary history, originally primates evolved from their ancestors who lived on trees. Today there are approximately 235 species of primates, and they all range in their habitats and sizes. Thus, the biggest primate is lowland gorilla, whose weight is around 180 kilos, while the smallest one is mouse lemur living on Madagascar. Its weight is only 30 grams. There are different classifications of primates offered by scientists. However the most common and widely accepted is the division of all primates into two groups: the prosimians and the anthropoids. The prosimians that are also called as primitive primates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first arboreal theory was considered to be the dominant until it was question and other two theories appeared. According to the arboreal theory, primate evolved in order to meet the needs of arboreal life, which means a development of necessary senses or adapting already existing senses to new life style. For example, since primates lived in the three–dimensional world, they needed a good stereoscopic vision that would allow them easily move through the environment. Therefore, the orbits of the first primates had been changed in order to achieve stereoscopic vision. Since the vision has become a primary sense, the sense of smell has reduced and, as a result, the snout was shortened. Its adaptation of the primates to the environment allowed them to survive. The second theory known as the visual predation theory contradict the first theory and claims that all the features of primates mentioned above, including grasping feet and hands, orbital convergence and the reduced claws, were developed as a result of pressure to forage for insects and fruits in the forest during the night time. For example, a good orbital vision allows primates to gauge the prey's distance without additional moving of the head. The third theory is the most recent among all three theories. According to this theory the primates have undergone the adaptive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. The Ape In The Movie 'Planet Of The Apes' Planet of the Apes For my second essay I'll be talking about the movie that I watched Planet of the Apes. In this movie human are made as slaves and the Apes control them. For this essay I'll be specifically talking about a Ape in the movie that stood out to me the most. Which would be "Koba". He was an altered bonobo with enormous hatred for humans. He had years of abuse and neglect. Due to all the abuse that he had gone through from the humans, he was left with a scar over his left blind eye. Koba wasn't just any regular Ape. He was liberated from captivity during the Ape Rebellion and eventually became a prominent member of Caesar's colony of apes, as well as a member of the Ape Council. As well Koba was the commanders in the Ape Army. So as you can see he was a very strong headed, careless toward human's type of Ape. His outlook on other apes or humans was very carless. His epiphany changed dramatically after what he went through personally. Kopa was abused, and hurt so badly by humans, that he has no heart toward them at all, unlike Caesar. There were many people who had epiphany in this movie, but obviously Kopa stood out to me the most! When Caesar showed compassion and sympathy toward humans, Koba become angry and overthrew Caesar. Which later led the apes to war with the humans. When watching this film, and seeing how Koba was the ape that everyone was scared of, made me wonder why. What made Koba have so much hatred? When evaluating his feelings, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Chimps Anthropology Opening the documentary with scenes of chimpanzees navigating the forest while wielding rudimentary spears is quite frightening. Often, it is thought that humans are the only species on Earth that can make and utilize tools (such as weapons), and that is largely attributed to humans' advanced bipedalism. However, chimps have begun to use stripped down branches that are then sharpened by their teeth to hunt and catch a variety of prey. This means that chimps took distinct steps to create a weapon and conduct a hunt, and that can be related to humans' early ancestors and their rudimentary ways of life. This has major implications for two reasons: the first being that chimps are advancing intellectually and possibly socially as they seem to organize ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Firstly, researchers conducted impulse control studies on chimps and humans. They placed two trays of M&Ms on a table in front of a chimp and the chimp would point to which one they wanted. Then the that bowl would be given to the chimp in the cage close by and the chimp that was pointing would get the remaining one. Every single time the chimp chose the bowl with more M&Ms and always got the one with less. They were not able to control their impulse to pick the opposite dish. In the study on four–year olds, the proctor of the experiment explained that they were leaving the room with the bigger bowl of candy and told the child that they could have it when the proctor returned if they didn't eat the small bowl. The child could also ring the bell and the proctor would come back sooner, but then the child would only get the small bowl. Results showed that the longer the child resisted temptation, the higher their SAT scores were later. This reveals that humans do possess at least some level of impulse control by age four, unlike that of chimpanzees. Humans also became much less emotionally reactive through evolution meaning that we developed some control over our emotions. Additionally, the experiment on chimps was expanded by teaching the chimps how to count and then using the number symbols instead of physical candy. In that experiment the chimps were able ... It will include how Tarzan become and what fans feel about the new Movie 'The Legend of Tarzan'. Fandom and textual poaching will be used and it will explain how the story of Tarzan comic and the movie The Legend of Tarzan has changed. In fact it will include a reflection to the question whether my thoughts have changed through engaging with the case study research and weather there will be a potential impact in the future media production for Tarzan. Media used to be different from now it has changed in the past few years. One text is used in many platform and in different ways but the character usually remain the same. Fandom is not a new word it is in fact and old word that is hundred and thirteen years old, which was used to describe a fan group that supported sports. In nowadays in the twentieth century it has become well known for groups that are passionate with movie stars, music and movies such as Star Wars, Superman and Harry Potter. Fandom refers to collective fans that might have something in common such as same interest in games, same genre movies or even having the same hobby. • 23. The Planet Of The Apes Film Analysis Apes Together Strong! What Could Come Next For The Planet Of The Apes Franchise "Apes. Together. Strong!" [Contains Spoilers for War for the Planet of the Apes] After three films, Caesar's arc has come to a close in War for the Planet of the Apes. Suffering unspeakable losses, #Caesar (Andy Serkis) sets out to redeem his soul. Joining him on his journey – much to his chagrin – are his three friends #Rocket (Terry Notary), #Maurice (Karin Konoval) and #Luca (Michael Adamthwaite). Despite telling his friends not follow him, Caesar is somewhat glad to have his friends with him. The film is emotional, at times fun (thanks to the comedic antics of Steve Zahn's #BadApe) and very much the western adventure we were promised by #MattReeves. With Caesar's arc now wrapped up, it was referenced well before the film's release that a fourth film could come our way. However, how would this adventure play out? Let's explore the factors, shall we? Cornelius Carries On His Father's Legacy Young #Cornelius has started his life in the middle of a war. His brother and mother are both murdered and his father is fatally wounded. Planet of the Apes fans will likely remember, Roddy McDowall's Caesar didn't have a good start to life either. His parents were murdered a day or two after his birth and Armando raises him under the name Caesar. While McDowall's Caesar bear resemblance to the most recent Caesar, he also resembles young Cornelius. How? Well, let's take a peek. After the deaths ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gibbons Book Report In this monograph The Gibbons of Khao Yai, Thad Q Bartlett records all of his own notes about the small apes, also known as the gibbons, in their own natural habitat in the national park of Khao Yai, Thailand. Before he wrote this book, primatologists had hypothesized about a correlation between territoriality and monogamy in the gibbons and believed that it was due to the small fruiting trees and figs. Bartlett had taken an interest in the gibbons, and made a goal to contradict this hypothesis by studying the gibbons up close, and better understand how the availability of food affected their behaviors and ecology. Regarding the uniqueness of their monogamous lifestyle, Bartlett mainly referred to the predictions from other primatologists about how gibbons live in their small groups. He referred to Wright's predictions in particular about how the gibbons created their own small groups for the sake of having enough food resources. While, Apes however seem to be very small and weak/fragile. Let's take a look on some more of their differences. Gorillas and Apes might be very similar, but their looks on the other hand are very, very different. First, Gorillas are massive omnivores going around "6 feet and 2 inches tall and coming in at a whopping 350 pounds!"(Ann Elwood). Their fur is a dark black everywhere except their back, on their back the fur is a shiny dark silver, hence the name "SilverBack Gorilla". Nonetheless, there is the mighty Ape. • 29. William Oneill 's The Hairy Ape Often times literature is used to reflect historical events of the time period in which the piece is written. Examining artifacts such as books, plays, or music is a way to gain insight into the social, political, and cultural attitudes of that time period. An example of a primary source of the 1920s would be Eugene Oneill's the Hairy Ape. In this play, the main character Yank falls victim to a technological movement, the Industrial Revolution. New ideas, technologies, and cultures were emerging, and Yank has to deal with the adversity of post WWI America. The play begins with a scene that incudes firemen working in the engine room of a ship talking amongst each other. This scene is depicts the transformation from human labor to machines, ... Yank truly believes he is what keeps society running smoothly. The United States had just won the first major world war and transformed themselves into an official world superpower, so the general vibe and attitude throughout the country was a positive one. However, as the play progresses, Yank slowly realizes how little impact his single soul can make. By the time he is kicked out of the Industrial Workers of the World (I.W.W.) office in Scene 7, he feels as though he is a broken machine that can no longer do work. Near the end of Scene 7 he says, "I'm a busted Ingersoll, dat 's what. Steel was me, and I owned de woild. Now I ain 't steel, and de woild owns me. Aw, hell! I can 't see–it 's all dark, get me? It 's all wrong!" (O'Neill 297). O'Neill uses Yank to symbolize how people lose hope for a better future when the world does not care about them. The workers of the 1920s were being exploited and downgraded into apes. Many immigrants traveled to the United States with ambition and passion in search of a better life. After being greeted by the breathtaking beauty of the Statue of Liberty, what awaited these immigrants was life in the factories. • 31. Animal Forms Of Communication As Less Complex Or... As humans, we find it easy to conclude that we are the smartest, most superior beings on the planet. What is it that makes us so certain that this is true? Animals do not speak our language, so we make the judgment that they are less. If we look beyond our own form of verbal communication, we may find that the domesticated animals we keep as pets are trying to communicate with us sometimes, especially dogs. Do they not greet us at the door, running with a wagging tail? Do they not try to warn and ward off potential intruders? Do they not want to eat whatever it is that a person is eating, even if that means licking crumbs off the plate just before it goes in the dish washer? Cats communicate through habits of their own – they purr and hiss. Why do we evaluate animal forms of communication as less complex or intelligent than our own? Though we often see non–human animals as inferior, viewing their intelligence as fundamentally different from our own, imagining them as incapable of communicating in a way similar to humans, and focusing on differences in physical form and societal structure, humans and other animals are far more similar than we might think. Particular similarities exist between humans and primates. In the book Evolution and Human Behavior: Darwinian Perspectives on Human Nature, John Cartwright writes, "In terms of the amino acid sequences in a range of blood proteins, and hence the genes responsible, we are virtually identical to chimpanzees" (162–4). ... • 33. The Planet Of The Apes The Planet of the Apes franchise completely overtook the film industry starting in 1968, after the original film hit theaters. Since then, there has been a reboot, two sequels, merchandise, and even a TV series. This film was such a success for many reasons– its clever allegories to race, religion, and politics, the phenomenal makeup and costume design, the world–building that was almost unheard of in 1968 (maybe even giving inspiration for the world–building in the first Star Wars film which hit theaters in 1977), you name it. However, there is one thing above all that comes to the mind of both film buffs and newbies alike when one thinks of the original Planet of the Apes–– and that is the phenomenal twist ending. Planet of the Apes is a science fiction film that surrounds the journey of astronaut George Taylor, who landed his ship on a planet that he concludes exists in a completely different time than earth when he departed. On his quest, Taylor loses the three astronauts that were travelling with him and realizes that this planet is ran completely by a civilized society of apes, and he found the humans to be mute, savage, and animalistic. The film follows Taylor as he is captured by this literate community of apes and attempts to understand how this world came to be. After forming an animosity with Dr. Zaius, the orangutan minister of science, who seemed to fear the idea of humans gaining intelligence, Taylor escaped his capture in search of the reason why this planet ... Humans have all the features that classify as a primate and an ape. For example, our hands has a thumb that helps us separate the rest of our fingers to allow us to grip a firm hold of items tightly. We has humans have the same too, see our thumbs makes it easy for us to hold on glass, books, and anything that we need to keep a firm hold of. • 37. The Great Ape Protection And Cost Saving Act From Thought to Testing: A Discussion of The Great Ape Protection and Cost Saving Act One of the most proliferated quotes in western philosophy is Descartes declaration of "Cogito Ergo Sum." In the preceding mediation he strips down to what he believes is the foundation of knowledge. As much as this is quoted and used particularly in discussions of the mind, Descartes proceeding building on that foundation is left the wayside. He uses different thought experiments, such as his examination of wax melting, to assert that through sense it can be determined that other bodies exist and therefore it is not unreasonable to think other 'thinking things' exist as well. But more intelligent people than I have analysed and written at length about fallacies in the arguments including the infamous declaration. Yet I find there is a really beautiful takeaway in the meditations and it is empathy. Empathy allows us to know that there are other 'thinking things' in reality. Where does that leave the Great Ape Protection and Cost Saving Act? Anecdotally, whenever I see any ape, I have a different emotional response than I do to other animals. It is almost a feeling of respect and awe. For instance, when I have been to the zoo and an ape came up the glass and we looked into each others eyes, it felt different than looking to a mouse's, drosophila's, or any other animal's that is used for animal testing. Based purely off this, this limit on research seems justified. But stepping into the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Pros And Cons Of Humans And Chimpanzees It is awful even just to picture how chimpanzees are being anesthetized for more than hundred times and being put in a small, barren cage for the sake of biomedical science. Chimpanzees are our closest living relatives both biologically and socially (Stanford et. al., 2017). Humans and chimpanzees shares lots of similarities genetically and that is one of the reasons why many scientists use chimpanzees for medical science research. This is also the most important reason on why people who are informed about the similarities between human and chimpanzees put a very special value to chimpanzees. The usage of chimpanzees for scientific research has been declining internationally, but chimps are still being used as subjects for biomedical research in the United States ("Alternatives to Chimp Testing," 2008). In 2012, there was a bill called the Great Ape Protection Act (GAPA) to restrict the use of chimpanzees in biomedical research in the United States. There are huge debates whether this bill is necessary or not. Without us realizing, we actually have moral obligations to chimpanzees. Thus, all laws that against and restrict chimpanzees testing, such as the Great Ape Protection Act (GAPA) plays an important role and we should support the bills and laws because of several reasons. First, laws that protect chimpanzees from invasive research should be supported simply because of the fact that chimps are really similar to humans. They are our kin. It is only normal that when being taught something at such a young age that one will only begin to believe what is being taught. The story of evolution, which states that humans come from monkeys, is a bit of a controversial one. Humans did not evolve from monkeys, nor did they evolve from chimpanzees or any other type of primate extant today. Animals alive today are not the same animals that existed when humans were first recorded. The ancestors of what one would call a monkey today would not have not looked like a monkey. Not only is there a misconception of the story evolution but there is also proof that humans did not evolve from monkeys such as the false identification of what was thought to be a monkey, the splitting and extinction of primates, the consistent changing of animals, and mutation. Aspects that are considered within the analysis are locomotion, morphology, vocalizations, behavior, intelligence, and genes. In addition to the compare and contrast portion of my research I also examined the pandemic in the film and it's biological aspects. Through examination of those aspects I was able to formulate a hypothesis on how a "Planet of Apes" could occur. Before delving into elements of the pandemic, we must first examine primate behavior. Cornelius merely attempted to state that he had found evidence that apes had evolved from man. Defender of the faith Dr. Zaius then quickly ended the hearings and threatened Cornelius with charges of hearsay. This is a direct link to our own past. Charles Darwin challenged religions view on the origins of life in the 1800's, and frighteningly similar things occurred to him. This is what Planet of the Apes attempts to do, and accomplishes so thoroughly. It mirrors things that have happened in our own world, yet portrays them in a way that makes humanity's own shortcomings more palatable. Yet, there are two ways of interpreting the lessons the film teaches. On one level, Planet of the Apes blatantly warns individuals not to repeat the past. While on another level, the director could be interpreted to be stating subtly that we did not learn from our past and are therefore doomed to repeat it. These interpretations wholly depend on the individual seeing the film. Planet ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 67. Language Acquisition : The Great Apes It is often believed that language is a primary differentiating factor between humans and other animals. While the unique structure of the human vocal tract does not allow for other animals to replicate our language in an auditory manner, recent studies have shown that species in the family Pongidae, also known as the "great apes," are capable of using language in a visual way. Some researchers are trying to show that species such as gorillas, chimpanzees, bonobos, and orangutans are able to learn sign language and use it to communicate with humans. Evolutionarily, the great apes are our closest living relatives, so studies of their linguistic ability could be used to show that we are more related than previously thought. The largest obstacle in great ape language acquisition has been vocabulary. In the past, attempts to teach them to use spoken language has yielded extremely limited results; however, attempts to teach symbolic language (especially human sign language) have been incredibly successful (Patterson & Cohn 1990). It is interesting to note that sign language acquisition in great apes shares similarities with language acquisition in human children. For example, a chimpanzee named Washoe showed overgeneralization in her use of signs during her early learning stages that can be compared to perceptual classifications in children (Patterson 1978). Chimpanzee research has shown that, like young children, chimpanzees acquire gestual language in stages, such as combining ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 69. Old World Monkeys Monkey, any of a large and varied group of mammals of the primate order. The term monkey includes all primates that do not belong to the categories human, ape, or prosimian; however, monkeys do have certain common features. All are excellent climbers, and most are primarily arboreal. Nearly all live in tropical or subtropical climates. Unlike most of the prosimians, or lower primates, they are almost all day–active animals. Their faces are usually flat and rather human in appearance, their eyes point forward, and they have stereoscopic color vision. Their hands and feet are highly developed for grasping; the big toes and, where present, the thumbs are opposable. Nearly all have flat nails. Monkeys habitually sit in an erect posture. Unlike the apes, most cannot swing arm–over–arm (the spider monkey is an exception) but move about in trees by running along the branches on all fours; their skeletal structure is similar to that of other four–footed animals. Monkeys live in troops of up to several hundred individuals and travel about in search of food, having no permanent shelter. As in apes and humans, the female has a monthly reproductive cycle, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most are arboreal, but a few, such as baboons and some macaque species, are ground dwellers. Some Old World monkeys lack tails; when a tail is present it may be long or short but is never prehensile (grasping). The nostrils are close together and tend to point downward. Many species have cheek pouches for holding food, and many have thick pads (called ischial callosities), on the buttocks. Their gestation period is five to nine months. Adult Old World monkeys have 32 teeth. The Old World monkeys, sometimes called true monkeys, are more closely related to the apes and humans than they are to the New World monkeys; the two monkey groups probably evolved separately from ancestral ... • 71. Do Primates Posses Culture? Essays Writing Assignment One––Do primates posses culture? I think that if culture is defined as learned behavior, than it is reasonable to say that primates posses a form of culture. Primates have been observed making tools to aid in collecting food and developing communication system, both of which are learned behaviors. It is common in monkeys, apes and humans that behavior and social organization aren't necessarily programmed into the genes. There have been several cases where an entire troop has learned from the experiences of just a few. In a group of Japanese macaques, for example, a three–year–old female female developed the habit of washing dirt of of sweet potatoes before she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This kind of practice goes beyond animal instinct. Another highly developed practice is 'terminating'. Chimps carefully choose the right kind of twig to probe the termite hills with. They modify the twig by peeling off the bark to expose the sticky surface. Then they dig holes with their fingers, stick the twig in and fish around until the have enough termites on their twig to have a meal. Terminating takes time, and their are many Gombe chimps that have never mastered it. Only certain types of twigs will work for the job. Also, once the twig is in the hill and the chimp judges that the termites are crawling on its surface, the chimp has to quickly flip the twig as he pulls it out so that the termites are on top, otherwise they would all fall off. The cultural transmission of a communication system through learning is a fundamental attribute of language. Trained chimpanzee's Washoe and Lucy have tried to teach Ameslan to other animals, including their own offspring. Washoe has taught gestures to other chimps at the institute where she is, including her son, Sequoia, who died when he was very young. There has been other cases of cultural transmission from chimp to chimp. Chimps and gorillas have at least a simple capacity for langueage. They may never have invented a ... • 73. Analysis Of Through A Window By Jane Goodall Connections within Jane Goodall's "Through a Window" Throughout the term, reading the book, "Through a Window" by Jane Goodall has been quite intriguing for me, in that it has inspired me with new ideas and perceptions about how our own species has evolved over time. I have really enjoyed seeing the many similarities that hominids share with other primate species, especially chimpanzees. Goodall's research only further proves that we are not only extremely biologically similar to chimpanzees in our DNA, but have many behavioral similarities as well. The film, "Monkey in the Mirror" also shows support for our likeness in intellectuality. These documented findings on chimpanzee and human resemblances provides the strong evidence needed to conclude the fact that humans do indeed share a common ancestor with great apes. I found Goodall's chapter Mothers and Daughters very fascinating, and caught my interest the most because I immediately found myself making connections within my own life and experiences. Goodall compared the parenting styles of the two mothers, Flo, and Passion. These two chimps have completely opposite ways of raising their young, with Flo being very loving, nurturing, and caring of her daughter Fifi, while Passion was a very cold, harsh, and intolerant mother to her daughter, Pom. You can easily see the dramatic difference in how their childhood shaped the two chimpanzees in their adulthood, just how we commonly see this in humans as well. Fifi had a ... • 75. The Ethical Ethics Of Life Without Zoos And Aquariums Think for an instance about life without zoos or aquariums. You might cheer because of the thought that the animals are free, you may feel upset because you will no longer see your favorite animal, or perhaps you could feel indifferent. Nonetheless, zoos and aquariums are a humane and essential resource to understanding our life, our species, and our world. Constructing zoos and aquariums are an ethical and beneficial practice because they are places that provide human contact with nature and animals without harming the animals' habitats, they prohibit endangered animals from becoming extinct and conserve the animals' population, and they improve the health of the animals. Zoos and aquariums are rational, noble, and benevolent in these manners ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "Ultimately, endangered species will only be saved by preserving their habitat and combating the reasons they are killed by people. Instead of patronizing zoos, it is better to support groups like the International Primate Protection League, the Born Free Foundation, Earth Island Institute, and other groups that work to preserve habitats." (Source H) First of all, if an animal in a zoo is considered a dangerous threat to the locals, then the animal in question should be further examined, and, if dangerous enough, then yes, it should be eliminated. Secondly, a few accurate validations that prove that zoos and aquariums genuinely sustain the habitats of the animals. As written in "Polar Bears International and AZA Form Partnership to Inspire Action on Climate Change," "PBI is providing funding, resources, educational programming and guest speakers, including the world's leading polar bear scientists, to the zoos in order to create or enhance educational Arctic displays. AZA is committing to utilize these resources to grow stewardship in their communities and increase research which may assist in the conservation of polar bears in the wild." (Source C) Zoos and aquariums do have a positive effect to them, not exhibited in PETA's article; zoos and aquariums defend their animals' habitats, if not increase the efforts to preserve them! Furthermore, some may see zoos and aquariums as a means of profiteering and entertainment. Illustrated in "Free the Killer Whale" by Jane Velez–Mitchell, she proclaims the following: "When it comes to animal exploitation––follow the money. Using animals for entertainment is big business, plain and simple. The killer whale Tilikum has helped SeaWorld sell millions of dollars worth of tickets." (Source G) Her beliefs are that zoos and aquariums are an opportunity to take advantage of money by exploiting animals for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 77. Spider Monkeys Vs Chimpanzees Essay Spider monkeys and chimpanzees might seem the same, but they're very different. For instance, they might have similar locations in central South America, they are different because chimpanzee cohabitant with species of their kind and or any different species of monkey, where as spider monkey's only cohabitat with of their own species. Also a chimpanzee is an ape and a Spider does not.(an ape is the same as a monkey, but an ape does not have a tail)There are more similarities and differences between spider monkey's and chimpanzees as you read on. Both spider monkeys and chimpanzees are on the endangered species list. Spider monkeys are on the endangered species list because of loss of habitat. They have officially been on the list in 1996.
