Now, there are more than 1,500 NICU's in the United States. Personally, I think this job seems very
intriguing. I like that I can be working with babies all the time and improve their lives. I would

During my senior year of high school, our graduating class had to take more than one career
assessment. I was given choices in the health and human science field. I was a lover of science and
the human body so there is no wonder on why I was given these career choices. You never think

For as long as I can remember, I have always desired to work in the healthcare field. At an
extremely young age, I wanted to become a doctor. Later on in life, I wanted to be a pharmacist.
During my sophomore year of high school, I finally decided that I wanted to become a nurse. At this
time, I did not know what kind of nurse I wanted to become, but I knew that nursing was my
purpose. What I found to be the most captivating was the broadness of the field of nursing. Pursuing
this further, I could work in any environment that I longed for. After further researching this
particular field, I finally decided that I wanted to be a Neonatal nurse practitioner. Neonatal nurse
practitioners "serve as primary caregivers for premature babies and other newborns who require
special care due to low birth rate, respitory distress, congenital heart defects or various other
abnormalities and disorders"(education–portal). The road to becoming a Neonatal nurse practitioner
is not easy. Of course, one must obtain undergraduate education before beginning neonatal studies.
Community colleges offer associates degrees in nursing and four year institutions offer a bachelors.
Aspiring nurse practitioners must earn a master's degree or doctor of nursing practice degree in
Neonatal Nursing. These programs generally take two to three years. Training is provided by the
employer after graduation during class and in the NICU through a mentorship. This training may

I Want To Become A Neonatal Nurse
In my life I have thought about doing or being a lot of different things. But I think that I have made
up my mind and when I get older I want to be a Neonatal Nurse. The reason as to why I want to
become a "baby nurse" isn't really exciting. I want to be a neonatal nurse because it sounds really
interesting and it sounds like something I would actually enjoy doing for the rest of my life. Since I
really want to become a nurse I would have to create a couple habits in order to obtain my goal. The
first habit I would have to make is learning to listen to people better. I struggle with this because my

Water is probably my biggest fear. Not drinking water but giant body of water, like the ocean or a
lake. For some odd reason I always think I am going to drown every time I get in any type of body
of water. I think that if I am going to try and become less scared of water I need to learn how to do
some stuff first. First, I probably need to learn to swim. I know how to "Doggy Paddle" but I don't
think that counts when it comes to swimming Atlantic or Pacific. Another thing I need to do is try
not to worry as much when I go out on a boat or just go swimming. I get so stressed to the point that
I can't even have fun because I am so worried of drowning. I plan to reach my goals by doing a
