What is NOx? And why are NOx emissions important in air quality? Can you write (at least one of) the involved chemical reactions? Assuming a Brayton cycle, discuss three mechanisms or trends that can affect the NOx production. How is building pollution categorized? Discuss the importance of a building\'s operational schedule on its emissions production. Solution As the nitrogen released during fuel combustion, it combines with oxygen to form nitric oxide (NO) and further combines with oxygen to form nitrogen dioxide (NO2). Nitric oxide is not considered to be hazardous to health at typical ambient condition whereas as nitrogen dioxide can be hazardous. NOx (Oxides of nitrogen) is referred to together for nitrogen dioxide and nitric oxide. NOx are the important polltants in air. It is strong oxidizing agents and takes a major role in atmospheric reactions..

  • 1. What is NOx? And why are NOx emissions important in air quality? Can you write (at least one of) the involved chemical reactions? Assuming a Brayton cycle, discuss three mechanisms or trends that can affect the NOx production. How is building pollution categorized? Discuss the importance of a building's operational schedule on its emissions production. Solution As the nitrogen released during fuel combustion, it combines with oxygen to form nitric oxide (NO) and further combines with oxygen to form nitrogen dioxide (NO2). Nitric oxide is not considered to be hazardous to health at typical ambient condition whereas as nitrogen dioxide can be hazardous. NOx (Oxides of nitrogen) is referred to together for nitrogen dioxide and nitric oxide. NOx are the important polltants in air. It is strong oxidizing agents and takes a major role in atmospheric reactions.
