Cause Of Procrastination In College
In college, have you ever waited until the last minute to sit down and pull an all–nighter to finish a paper? Well if you did and you did it multiple times
you were basically considered a procrastinator. Procrastination is the action of delaying or postponing something like an assignment. Many college
students like to have fun until they realize that they have a paper due in the next twenty–four hours. They hurry back to their computers and count
down the hours until the due date expires. According to this article The 4 Main Causes of Procrastination Revealed, there are four main reason why
procrastination takes place. Number one reason is the Fear of Failure. Deep down if one fears the consequences of failing they often put it off or just
decline to do the action. Second main reason is Extensive Perfectionism. Per the Motivation Grid, "If you are a self–confessed perfectionist, then you
might find it difficult to take action unless you know you can do a job with which you will be totally satisfied." The last two reasons are what are
considered the obvious reasons of procrastination. Third and fourth reasons is that one has lack of focus and no energy levels at all. The question is,
does working on a paper the last minute (procrastination) drastically affect a college student's grades?
Per the Dailey Universe, "Procrastination affects more than just grades", "Procrastination affects health, sociality, schoolwork and memories. Limiting
the amount of time, you need to do your best on assignments will give grades that don't show your potential. Doing work ahead of time significantly
increases grades." The more time you spend on a paper, the better your performance on the paper will be. A lot of teachers, from beginning of high
school, insist on teaching their students to start writing an outline, for the paper they will later write. It helps the students to draw up their ideas about
the topic and they will introduce these ideas when the time comes to write the paper. It helps the writer put the ideas together so that the paper is
organized and it flows. The outlines help the students paper, become a better and helps the student fully understand the topic. An article on Bloomberg

What Are The Effects Of Procrastination
Procrastination is all too familiar to most of the people and it has become a widespread phenomenon at all ages of life. In childhood, children will
make every effort to put off finishing their homework. When they grow up into adults, they start to delay writing up their thesis, repeatedly declare
they will start their diets tomorrow, or postpone until deadlines finishing the tasks. Yet people also sometimes struggle to control theirprocrastination.
But things always go against with what they want. This essay revolves around the definition and the negative effects of procrastination, reasons for
procrastination behaviors and the effective solution to procrastination behaviors.
Firstly, as regards to the meaning of procrastination, basically, it refers to the delay or postponement of task or decision–making initiation or
completion, which is a psychological behavior that allows a person to postpone or delay a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We can do many things on time on most occasions without any procrastination. Therefore, we have to be determined to eliminate it as much as
possible. Second, you need to understand how procrastination affects our life and then take corresponding measures such as write down your tasks in
a visible place with their due dates so that you are reminded all the time, think about what attracts you to your assignment, reassess your assignment
and make it less intimidating, list a possible obstacle for completing assignment and avoid those disturbances deliberately, create a reward system to
celebrate successful tasks, develop a flexible schedule that only include important task because rigid one can only leave you feeling overwhelmed, etc.
Last but not least, it's your determination and courage that counts when you are procrastinating. In a word, procrastination has bad impacts on our lives

The Pros And Cons Of Procrastination
Procrastination, Is it really all that bad? I personally don't think that procrastination is a horrible thing, to be honest, I don't think that it should even
be called procrastination and I'm not the only one that seems to think this way. I am going to explain why I think that procrastination is not as bad
as people say. To support my reasoning, I will provide information from a few professionals who have done research on just the question, Is all
procrastination really that bad? First, let me start off by saying that in a TED Talk by Tim Urban titled Inside the mind of a procrastinator, Urban talks
about how he is quite the procrastinator and he wanted to share to the world why procrastinators are the way they are. Urban explains that "Both brains
have a Rational Decision–Maker in them, but the procrastinator's brain also has an Instant Gratification Monkey.", but I disagree with this I believe
that everyone has an "Instant Gratification Monkey" because as he later said. "sometimes it makes sense to be doing things that are easy and fun, like
when you're having dinner or going to bed or enjoying well–earned leisure time. That's why there's an overlap. Sometimes they agree. But other times,
it makes much more sense to be doing things that are harder and less pleasant, for the sake of the big picture. And that's when we have a
conflict."(Urban, 2016). As far as I can tell everyone wants to have fun, so how is it possible for anyone, not to be a procrastinator? Also, whats

Effect of Procrastination on life satisfaction
Abstract
The aim of this study was to determine whether there exists a relationship between procrastination and life satisfaction.
Introduction
The Latin word 'procrastination' means delaying or postponing something. Procrastination is avoiding doing a task that needs to be done or postponing
it until the next day what can be done today. Possibly each one of us has delayed some unappealing task to the last minute. Procrastination affects a
person's work and only leaves him with feelings of guilt, self disgust, depression and inadequacy. Often we try to disguise our avoidance by being very
busy doing things that may be interesting, and useful, but don't contribute towards the main goal. It is most prevalent in teenagers and university
students. People who procrastinate do not focus towards the main goal but do other interesting things on pretext of avoiding doing something that
needs to be done at that time. Doing things at the last minute becomes a habit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The study took place in a classroom at University of Westminster.
The instructions were read out to the participants and made clear.
Results:
For active procrastination the mean was 3.0, which is below the midpoint on the scale used, and the range was 6.0.For the life satisfaction the mean was
3.0, which is at the midpoint on the scale used, and the range was 4.0. Figure 1 shows the scattergram, which indicates a reasonably linear negative
relationship between the two variables. The data were analysed using Spearman's test of correlation. There was a significant, though weak, negative

The Importance Of Procrastination
Is Procrastination Part of Human Nature Procrastination is my expertise and a way of living. I know this is a bad habit but I can't seem to manage
my time and feelings. I wish that I can run away from my responsibilities but they are always chasing me down. When these responsibilities are about
to catch up to me, I run in maximum overdrive so that they can stop following me. Procrastinating has gotten me into a lot of problems especially in
school. I always wait to the last minute to do any schoolwork and it usually leads to anxiety. Heck, I even waited to the last minute to write this essay. I
know it's bad but I can't make myself do anything because I lack any kind of motivation. Procrastination does not only affect me but, I see that many
of my classmates also have this problem and they are rushing to get work done before it's due. I see them do their homework one class period
before it's due. Instead of doing work, they are hanging out and having fun without any care in the world. I think that procrastination is a natural
human trait because it affects so many people. Tim Urban, a blogger writes about his experiences and how procrastination has affected him. He
was saying how he had to write a ninety page essay and kept holding it off until there was only three days till it was due. He said that he pulled all
nighters so that he could finish this essay. He gives us a closer look in the mind of a procrastinator and says , " Both brains have a Rational
Decision–Maker in them, but the procrastinator's brain also has an Instant Gratification Monkey."( Urban, 2016) The rational decision maker is
responsible and it wants to tend to our responsibilities. The Gratification Monkey just like the easy works and doesn't enjoy life and have fun. The
gratification monkey lives a sad life with no meaning or purpose. Whenever there's some sort of deadline, "Panic Monster is dormant most of the time,
but he suddenly wakes up anytime a deadline gets too close or there's danger of public embarrassment, a career disaster or some other scary
consequence. And importantly, he's the only thing the Monkey is terrified of."(Urban 2016) The panic monster is what pushes us to work but other

Perfectionism And Procrastination
"Procrastination is a common form of self–regulatory failure with substantive connections" where the tendency is to put off tasks. (Steel, Farrari, 2013)
Perfectionism is when one sets very high expectations often in an "overly critical manner" (Frost, Marten, Lahart,&Rosenblate,1990).
There's two types of perfectionism, adaptive and maladaptive where adaptive components are beneficial to the situational and maladaptive components
will be detrimental to the individual. (Piers Steel, Thomas Brothen, Catherine Wambach 2001) study looks at relationship betweenprocrastination,

The questionnaire was posted online for psyc121 students of Victoria University of Wellington. "Please read each statement, and select the option
that best describes how much you agree or disagree with each one" was the instruction given to the participants when completing a Pure
Procrastination Scale (PPS) which was developed by Steel (2010). It had 12 items and on a one to five scale where one is strongly disagree and 5 is
strongly agree. A statement "I generally delay before starting on work I have to do". Higher scores meant higher levels of procrastination.
Perfectionism was measured with a multidimensional perfectionism scale (MPS) developed by Frost et al. (1990) 6 subscales is used to measure sub

Speech On Procrastination
Procrastination, a college student's worst enemy, but closest friend. I've developed this habit where I wait until the very last minute doing an
assignment. It has gotten to the point where the clock is ticking down to the last few minutes and I am sitting at my desk just now starting the
assignment. What do I do to get in this sticky situation you ask? I do everything but the thing I'm supposed to do. Although I would have earned better
grades from doing things days before it's due, I've mastered the technique of putting it off till the last minute. It's a bad habit I picked up, but not one
that i've tried to quit.
RECEIVING THE ASSIGNMENT
Procrastinating comes in a few stages, the first is receiving the assignment. Receiving the assignment and due date sparked the lies of "oh I'll start
this as soon as I get home," or "I'm actually going to get this done early so I don't have to worry about it." So i psych myself up to be motivated to
finish it early although it never works out that way.
The Professor of the class usually makes a comment of "This isn't something you can do the night before it's due." Well obviously in college
anything is possible, and they know that at least half of the class is going to do it the night before its due anyways. As soon as the class gets over the
paper gets stuffed in my backpack and remains forgotten until I stumble upon it crumpled in the bottom of the bag. Realistically, i do know about the
assignment it's just filed in the part of

Why Procrastination Is Bad
What is procrastination? Is it good, is it bad? Procrastination is defined as delaying or putting off a task. In my experiences it has been bad but it
has also been good. And I think that it can go either way and help you and or not help you. The whole book of Think and Grow Rich covered
procrastination in several different chapters but the way chapter 8 described it was superior to all the others. It also talked about talking less and
listening more but not taking others opinions to heart so quickly which applies to so many people in the world today. I wonder what it would be like
if just half of us decided to keep our mouths shut and ears open.
Procrastination can be pretty bad for someone considering the fact that if it is a huge project or essay and you have a very little amount of time
then you are going to rush and it is gonna be sloppy and not your best work. Chapter 8 of Think and Grow Rich said that procrastination is opposite
of decision, which means that instead of deciding to sit down and take your time on whatever you are working on you put it off until another time.
Which for a lot of people and a few instances for me is a bad thing to do. If ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sometimes we are even those people and in chapter 8 of Think and Grow Rich it talked about how to be more successful with just one simple thing.
And that's talk less and listen more. There's so much to learn in this world and if you aren't listening you are not learning. Always talking isn't
teaching you anything but if you listen instead you will be surprised about all the knowledge you can obtain just by talking less! With that said
chapter 8 also talks about not taking other people's opinions to heart and that "If you are influenced by others opinions you will have no ideas of your
own". So while you need to listen more you need to be careful what you take into account from

The Causes Of Procrastination
Procrastination is the avoidance of doing a task that needs to be accomplished. It is a common issue most Americans face today. Procrastination can
be argued whether or not if it's caused by choice. There are various factors that lead to procrastination such as; our being brain programmed to
procrastinate, feeling like you aren't in the right frame of mind to do a particular task, and the lack of self–confidence.
Procrastination doesn't happen just because, it is a result of our brain being programmed to do so. Typically, we procrastinate because we visualize the
hardest part of something that needs to be done. It could be a range of doing a project, assignment, or even cleaning your house. According to Ciotti
(2012): our brain has the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means we put important things off to avoid being uncomfortable. Dr. Sinclair also states, "It's a human reaction to avoid doing stuff we don't
want to do to avoid potentially difficult situations, it's all about our confidence and a fear that it won't go well and we won't be good enough." This is
something most can relate to because we visualize something going wrong so we won't do it. Another thing that can be involved is perfectionism, we
may not want to attempt something unless we feel sure that we will be great at it. It becomes a vicious cycle, the more we procrastinate the more
distressed we are and undermine our own confidence. Procrastination also happens because we may have a low self–confidence. "When difficulties
arise, people with weak self–confidence easily develop doubts about their ability to accomplish the task at hand, while those with strong beliefs are
more likely to continue their efforts." (Heshmat, 2016). Whenever this happens, people miss opportunities to acquire new knowledge and skills. An
example of this would be someone with a low sense of confidence for math avoids enrollment for an upper–level math course (Heshmat, 2016). Robert

Back in dark ages, when people used to have to tune into their shows once a week, it seemed like people would get a lot more done. If nothing was
on that interested him or her, they would simply find something else to do such as yard work or reading a book. Now days, with options such as
Hulu and Netflix, it is easy to fall into the trap of binge watching. I am one of the many people who have fell victim to binge– watching. I'll always
keep telling myself just one more episode, but the next time I look at the clock, it's one a.m., and I still haven't started any of my homework. Then, I
will have to stay up even later trying to do all of the homework that I had put off doing. I usually end up rushing to get the work done, and I am super

"Studies have begun to examine the use of Netflix as a procrastination method, even as a form of sleep procrastination" (Friedmann, 2016).
I used to find myself saying that I'll go to bed at ten, but by the time I get home from work it's already past nine. Then, I'll choose watching a episode
on Netflix over starting my homework, then next thing I know its already almost midnight, and I still hadn't touched my homework. I used to just
keep pushing sleep further and further back, so I could sneak in a couple more episodes. Eventually the lack of sleep would catch up with me, and I
would crash.
Since online TV was introduced, many peoples watching habits have changed. Instead of waiting until the next episode came out a week later, people
can simply just hit the next episode button and waste and entire day away. Because of this, people have began to severely procrastinate, myself
included, but since I have gotten Netflix back, I have learned manage my time and set my priorities straight. Every once in awhile, I still do find
myself binge–watching an entire day

Procrastination And Procrastination Is Not My Problem Essay
When we think of procrastination the first word that comes to most of our minds is lazy. Laziness and procrastination seem to go hand in hand and
often procrastination is caused by us simply being lazy. However, procrastination is a chronic and constant problem for many of us and while some of
us may also be chronically lazy as well, most of us aren't. I am, unfortunately, a person that battles procrastination and I can say that laziness is usually
not my problem. I believe that procrastination comes down to one thing; we simply do not want to do whatever it is we need to do. The reasons
we feel the way we do can vary according to what we are avoiding and from person to person. Many of those of us attending school procrastinate
over school work. It doesn't matter if we are in college, elementary school, or high school, at some point most of us have procrastinated over one
assignment or another. Sometimes we are just being lazy, we know how to do the work and we understand the assignment, but we would rather watch
TV. On the other hand, some us procrastinate because we don't understand the assignment and are too afraid to ask for help. In other cases, we may
understand the assignment, but can't seem to concentrate on it; so we put it off. Many of us have put off an assignment for all of these reasons at
some point. If we were smart we would ask for help, put off watching TV, or figure out why we are having trouble concentrating, but most of us don't.
Another reason I often

The Reasons behind Procrastination
The deadline for this paper is one week away and I've written just this sentence. Every time I sat down to start, my mind would drift away and I
would think about anything but this. There always seems to be something that is far more important or interesting that needs to be taken care of first.
The deadline is getting closer and I am starting to get anxious on whether or not I am going to finish in time, yet I do this to myself all of the time.
These actions and feelings are considered textbook traits of procrastination. Defined as the act of delaying the completion of one task in favor of
another less urgent or more pleasurable task, procrastination can affect people in all walks of life (2007). The purpose of this paper is to discuss and
explore the growing phenomenon of procrastination and its effects on academic achievement as well as offer tips on how to combat it.
Although the definition of procrastination varies between individuals, the theories on understanding why people procrastinate generally tend to be
grouped into four different perspectives: differential, motivational and volitional, clinical and situational psychology (2013). These psychologies
discuss all of the behavioral, biological and cultural aspects of procrastination. Something that must be noted is that the lines between these
psychologies are blurred and it is difficult to place a reason on why an individual procrastinates in solely one area.
The differential psychology perspective looks at

a product of procrastination, so readers should not be surprised to know that Jill thinks procrastination is a good thing. However, they are looking

She says: "Being lazy is when you are unwilling to do something while procrastinating is when you intend to do something but you're just postponing

Procrastination is not as bad as being lazy. This comparison shows Jill acknowledges that there is a misunderstanding of procrastination. Therefore,
knowing the difference between procrastinating and being lazy is very crucial in redefining the word "procrastination". Here, clarifying any confusion
by using comparison helps develop the idea of what does it mean to procrastinate, which contributes to the main points of this essay. To explain why
procrastination is not unacceptable, Jill not only uses comparison but also effectively uses questions to further illustrate why procrastination is not

Procrastination And Its Effects On Students
Everyday students procrastinate. This is not something new, however. Procrastination is a behavior that started a long time ago. It is a phenomenon as
old as the universe. Most students are seen procrastinating every day. Zarick & Stonebraker (2009) conducted a survey among students. They wrote:
As expected, the effects of procrastination are widespread. Only a single student claimed "never" to be affected by procrastination in any of the three
categories and 42 percent admitted that they "usually" or "always" were affected in at least one of the three. About one–third admitted that the quality
of their papers/projects usually or always suffered, and one–fourth said the same about their exams. Only about 5 percent of respondents usually or
always turned assignments in late as a result of procrastination. (p. 212)
This survey shows the majority of students realize and admit their procrastination. The causes of this common behavior are due to increasing
advancements in technology, work ethic, stress, and time management skills. Advancements in technology are creating distractions for students.
Students are prioritizing their time with things such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, and Netflix. Instead of directing their attention to current
assignments, projects, and tests, they are focusing more on the latest app or device. These distractions are taking student's time and attention away from
their schoolwork along with other chores and obligations. Some schools

finish an assignment we probably could have finished in class over a couple of days. We may have been preoccupied those couple of weeks, with a
job, or sports; maybe even putting together a fundraiser of some sort. Or maybe, we haven't been busy at all, and have chosen to go home after class
and eat rice– cakes and watch Netflix all afternoon, into the evening, and continuously tell ourselves "I'll get it done tomorrow." Many of us have a
habit of making nearly every important task, (whether it be homework, paying a bill, making a phone call, or even booking a trip) an "oh, I'll do that
tomorrow" type of job. What most of us realize, but choose to ignore, is that continuously putting of these duties of ours will not only have negative
consequences on the result of the job that needs to be done, but on our mental physical and mental health as well. People may have excuses for leaving
things to the last minute, but the hard truth that they need to accept is that they are a habitual procrastinator. It is imperative that we understand that
procrastination will (eventually, if not immediately) have effects on our lives, from downward spirals in our happiness and personal satisfaction, to
destroying our

Procrastination On College Students : Procrastination
Procrastination in College Writing Out of all of the different questions I could think of regarding writing among college students and how each
individual goes about doing their work in different ways, I decided the best topic that I could focus on was procrastination. Procrastination on college
campuses seems to be a force of nature in and of itself, and seems to be prevalent in almost every students' academic affairs. I surveyed a total of
twelve students around the student center over a period of three days, asking them about procrastination and about what subject they seem to
procrastinate the most in. The majority of answers I received were English class, and the reason behind these answers were surprisingly all relatively the

Another group of students I talked to said that the main reason they procrastinate so much is because they find better things to do with their time, so
they think. They get distracted easily by social media or events on campus or by their friends and they say they will do the assignment later, before
they know it its an hour before the paper is due and they are rushing to get it done and turn it in–resulting in a lower grade than they could have gotten
had they started it a few days before. These students realize they need to change, and they say they will do better after every one but in reality they do
not. They continue getting distractions instead of being separated from their friends for enough time to do the assignment well. These same students,
who were all three grouped up together eating lunch, also said that it does not help them that the teachers give them set prompts rather than free writing.
So, five out of the twelve people that I surveyed agreed that free writing would help them succeed more than prompt writing. One girl actually
related college writing prompts to the ACT writing section, and explained why she believes that people do poorly on the writing portion of that
specific standardized test. She said that she did poor on it and she also does not do well when professors give her prompts, because not only does she not

The Dangers Of Procrastination Habit
Procrastination Habit
"You may delay, but time will not", I have thought a lot about this quote recently. Have you ever looked back on the past few weeks and thought, "If
only I had done this before, it would have been so much different right now."
Procrastination is the bad habit of putting off until the day after tomorrow what should have been done the day before yesterday. The word
"procrastinate" comes from the Latin word procrastinare, which means putting off until tomorrow. Procrastination exists in almost every aspect in our
daily lives, such as in academic, financial, health management,.. it takes the best time of the life of any person. I'm sure you have all procrastinated at
one time or another. Teenagers do it with essays, projects,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Besides, this bad habit can create problems. It can create higher stress levels, it can also lead to feeling of guilt, inadequacy, fear, depression, self
doubt. For example, if you put off an assignment, you can feel guilty about not starting it earlier. This can lead to depression because you feel
incompetent because you couldn't get the job done, or at least not very well. Overcoming procrastination is difficult, especially if you're a passive
procrastinator. However, there are some ways to help you stop, or at least limit your procrastinating : creating a list of priorities is always a good
advice. At school, we are taught time management skills because our life is essentially a race against time. We have so many tasks at hand but very
little time. This is why prioritization of work is important so that no time is wasted along the way. Determine which task needs to be completed first
base on deadlines and the importance of the task. Don't feel inferior when facing a difficult task. Therefore, rather than saying "I should have" the day
before the task is due, say "I'm going to"

Pros And Effects Of Procrastination
The article The Causes and Effects of Procrastination, retrieved from the website UK essays, and Procrastination: A Positive or Negative, by John
Michael Federici, both addressed issues regarding the pros and cons that the act of procrastination will bring upon to its user. Both author discussed
about procrastination, the act of delaying the work. Authors of each article has their very own unique perspective in how they view on the act of
procrastination, with both representing their points followed by a very strong arguments and fact in order to convince the readers. The act of
procrastination happens in our everyday life either it is performed by us or it is done by the people around us, and this act can personally affect the
procrastinator itself and also people whom are involved with them. The author for The Causes and Effects of Procrastination, mostly has a stand that

The reason why I agree to this point is because, as a student, there are many task that I need to complete with a very limited time frame, such as
assignment, quizzes, test, homework, assessment, and the list goes on. Sometimes, in the midst of a very critical period, where I had to submit my
assignment, proposal and with a bunch of presentation coming along the way, I found myself being extremely tired of facing my own work and
giving up half way into doing my task to complete an assignment, because I realizes that when my body is tired due exhaustion, I do not have a clear
idea on what to write for my assignment and I do not even understand if I read something at that moments. All I need at that moment is to sleep, and of
course all my work will be postponed causing me to

The Negative Effects Of Procrastination
What is something that just seems to be apart of our human nature, our generic code, something that is now considered an inescapable trait of life?
Sure you can fit "death" into this description, or other dreadful things; like paying taxes, college loans or typing essays, but the one thing you should be
thinking of is procrastination. In the dictionary it is defined as "the act or habit of procrastinating, or putting off or delaying, especially something
requiring immediate attention" (Dictionary 1). This has gone pass a habit and has even become more of a psychological disorder, because everyone
procrastinates; but not everyone is actually a procrastinator. Procrastinators struggle through completing a task head–on, and the act could ... Show more

None of these types pertain to being lazy but in Ana Swanson's Washington Post article "The real reason you Procrastinate" she mentions how "for
many people, procrastination are a strong and mysterious force that keeps them from completing the most urgent and important tasks in their lives"
(Swanson 2). This concept can be extremely relatable among many college students, since they are introduced to a whole new environment and way
of life that they must learn to adapt and tackle head on. For example, John Tierney, a New York Times author explains that students spend about a third
of the day procrastinating and particularly young men (Tierney 1). The act of procrastinating may seem like an unstoppable force placed on earth, but
they are ways around a habit. Many would pay their values to the habit, actually calling procrastination "helpful". But while this could be true, we are
talking about the majority rather the minority of people who actually enjoy procrastinating. This brings up the next topic where we explain the many
effects that procrastinating can hold, and particularly we will be focusing on the many negatives that of course outweigh the "positives". As mentioned
previously, the vast majority of people do procrastinate and mainly prevalent in college students, where leaving an assignment for the next day is

Causes Of Procrastination
Introduction Every student sets goals and deadlines to get their work done on time, but some wait until the last minute. As the grade level increases, the
work load and difficulty increases, leading to more procrastination. Most students in high school procrastinate, and the question is, why? Is the work
too hard? Do their teacher's leniency cause them to? Do students not have enough time? Do extra–curricular activities take up too much of their time?
There has been many other research studies on this topic, but I wanted to see if the students in my survey and interviews had any different correlations.
Because I am a senior in high school with a heavy work load and limited time, I struggle with procrastinating. The purpose of my research is to see if
other people have the same problems I do getting my work done. I asked questions that relate to myself including extra–curricular actives and home
lives. I wanted to see if my home life and extra–curricular activities caused my procrastination as well as my fellow class mates. I wondered if everyone
had the same reasons or if everyone had their own unique cause of procrastination. Literature Review In my study, laziness is the most common reason
student procrastinate. Timothy A Pychyl, a professor who specializes in the study of procrastination says "procrastinators often remark that they lack
the motivation necessary to act. They have an intention to act, but they fail to act in a timely fashion even though they recognize

I have many flaws, one of which being procrastination. Procrastination has been a flaw of mine since I was three years old just learning to tie my
shoe. When my dad told me that we were going to learn to tie my shoes today I would says something like, "I'm Hungry" or "I don't feel too good
today", and I would make these excuses up all day until it was bedtime so by then it was too late to tie my shoes. Now just like avoiding and
putting off tying my shoes I also put off my bedtime. As soon as my mom or dad turned off my bedroom light I would tell them that I needed a drink,
I was hungry, or the most famous one was I had to go to the bathroom. I would sit in the bathroom for up to 15 minutes just avoiding going to bed.

Also when my mom or dad asks me to dishes I go immediately so then I don't have a chance to procrastinate and so it's done and over with.
Gossiping is another flaw that I struggle with. No matter how hard I try not to it always seems to happen anyway. Whether it's talking about someone
behind their back good or bad or if it's sharing someone else's news or secrets when they told me not to.
I will be sitting at my desk and if someone says something that I know anything about then I immediately chimed in even if it's not my place too.
Another way is when someone comes to me and starts telling me something about someone I don't stop them. I let them sit there and gossip to me
because for some reason I feel that I have to, but I don't. Gossiping is a choice that I can't seem to stop myself from making and it makes me sick.
When I gossip and then realize that's what I'm doing it brings me down to know that it's such a bad habit that I didn't even realize what I was doing.
As soon as I hear it I don't even think about whether this person should be telling me this or not I just listen, and what's even worse is when I take
that information and share it with someone else. I don't mean to do this but like I said it is such a bad habit that I do it subconsciously.

Procrastination : The Problem Of Procrastination Essay
Many people believe that procrastination is derived completely from laziness but the culprit could be multiple things, including perfectionism. This can
become a huge problem for perfectionists, especially perfectionist students. They most likely will overthink projects and put off getting started because
they're afraid they won't be able to make them as perfect as they want them to be. Luckily this is a common issue among students and there are many
different techniques to cope with it. Students can overcome procrastination due to perfectionism by setting S.M.A.R.T goals, creating detailed to–do
lists, and by just getting started. Students can avoid procrastination by following the S.M.A.R.T. goal guidelines. All of your goals should be specific
(s), measurable (m), achievable (a), realistic (r), and time–sensitive (t). A specific goal is clear, focused, concise, and well–defined ("Ensure Your
Success"). Instead of a general goal like "I want to get my degree," turn that into something more specific like "I am going to get my Bachelor's
degree in Business Administration from George Mason University" ("Ensure Your Success"). To make goals measurable, establish timelines and
dates so you can measure your progress and stay on track to meet targets. Goals need to be achievable. Evaluate your own work ethic, see what you're
willing to do, and shape your goal around that so you know it is something you're capable of doing. A goal needs to be realistic, something that you are

Structured Procrastination
There are two different types of procrastinators in this world, the good–for–nothing procrastinator who procrastinates in order to do nothing or the
structured procrastinator. The structured procrastinator is sometimes seen as a more useful citizen than someone who does not participate in the great
art of procrastination, this is because they have a system to do different tasks, which is the less important tasks take priority over the very important
ones. There is a great saying by Dr. John Perry from Stanford, "The psychological principle is this: anyone can do any amount of work, provided it
isn't the work he is supposed to be doing at that moment." (Tierney)
Procrastination can be a bad thing but not if it is used in a way that converts the procrastinator into some of the most effective human beings in the
world. This may seem backward, but it is true, using a technique called structured procrastination causes many people to be in awe of the procrastinator.
This is because many procrastinators, contrary to popular belief, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And the answer to that is because if the essay were completed now, then there would be no time to do the smaller tasks that require little time. The
essay is a big project that is very time consuming and will force the procrastinator to be bored while writing it. This is why many people who do not
participate in the greatness of procrastination are seen as on tie but they do not finish as much as a procrastinator. The negative connotation of
procrastination was started by Johnathan Edwards who was a pastor during the puritanical era, which is from the 1500's. This ignorance to how great
procrastination stems from a hatred of being different that the puritans developed in order to keep their own together. To advance in society different

Procrastination
Procrastination is the avoidance of doing a task that needs to be accomplished. Procrastination has a high potential for painful consequences. It may
interfere with our personal or academic success.
There are those of us who wait until the due date is a day away. I am not talking about making sure the money is in the bank. I am talking about putting
it off because it is a tedious chore that we do not enjoy doing.

If this is the case, begin at the beginning, with the first segment, and do it extraordinarily well. But only strive for perfection where it counts. The rest
of the time, just do it. Remember, the next time you're procrastinating and can't seem to overcome it, stop and figure out why. Is the task even worth
doing? If so, pick the appropriate solution based upon the root cause and you'll whittle away those piles in no time.
Also procrastination can be stopped if you recognize self–defeating problems such as fear and anxiety, difficulty concentrating, poor time management,
indecisiveness and perfectionism. Identify your own goals, strengths and weaknesses, values and priorities. Compare your actions with the values you
feel you have. Are your values consistent with your actions?
Discipline yourself to use time wisely: Set priorities. Study in small blocks instead of long time periods. For example, you will accomplish more if
you study/work in 60 minute blocks and take frequent 10 minute breaks in between, than if you study/work for 2–3 hours straight, with no breaks.
Reward yourself after you complete a task. Motivate yourself to study: Dwell on success, not on failure. Try to study in small groups. Break large
assignments into small tasks. Keep a reminder schedule and checklist. Set realistic goals. Modify your environment: Eliminate or minimize noise
/ distraction. Ensure adequate lighting. Have necessary equipment at hand.

The Fear Of Procrastination
Some people put off the making of big decisions to move on in life because of fear of failure. Instead of taking up new challenges that will bring
them closer to their goals, they decide to remain where they are 'for now.' They're nursing the fear of unknown. Right inside of them, they know they
have to do something, but they keep procrastinating, waiting until the coast is clear. Their case is well illustrated by these words of Ivan Sergeyevich
Turgenev, a Russian novelist, "If we wait for the moment when everything, absolutely everything is ready, we shall never begin." Theirprocrastination
is sabotaging their own mind because everything will never be ready.
4.Anxiety
I know this as the back of my hand. Anxiety is a subtle cause of procrastination. Try and remember the last time you put off the doing of something.
What caused it? You may not realize it, but it's there. If you don't know how you'll fare in an exercise, a job, or a project, or another endeavor, anxiety
will set in and the easy way out of the anxiety is to avoid the endeavor for now. Tell me if you think I'm wrong. Procrastinator shifts their focus from the
future that's staring them in the face because they're anxious that the job is challenging. They concentrate on the present rewards.

something for now and most of these reasons are not real. Robert Anthony, a legend and a motivational speaker, said, "Waiting is a trap. There will
always be reasons to wait – The truth is, there are only two things in life, reasons and results, and reasons simply don't count." (Read more about such

Thesis About Procrastination
People often relate procrastination to lazy people, adamantly believing that it leads to inevitable failure. With Countless of articles , books & guides
on how to get over procrastination , The Author John Rampton in his article "Procrastination or Contemplation?" chose to spark off a debate by issuing
his ideas on how procrastination can actually be fruitful. Rampton states the bright side of procrastination and how it can lead to success rather than the
common negative myths about this issue. As much as I was convinced by Mr.Rampton's ideas, I still refuse to believe in them. Mr. Rampton, you give
me no guarantees.
In this article John Rampton listed some of the positive aspects of procrastination, although some of them were both logical and relatable but the
non–credibility of the sources weakened them & made them less convincible. What made his article engaging is that the ideas he introduced were
relatable to the majority. As a procrastinator myself , i found his definition of Procrastination quite interesting where he said "procrastination is using
fear as a motivator" , its actually true that we finish some tasks on time only out of fear. Besides, the reasons we delay doing a certain task is usually

Procrastination Is Natural Essay
Is procrastination natural? Procrastination cannot be considered natural, because natural can be define as something that people have become use to
doing in their everyday live. In his recent Ted Talk, Inside the Mind of a Master Procrastinator, Tim Urban, states that everybody is a procrastinator,
and honestly, I disagree with his idea. Not everybody is a procrastinator.
In the article, 'What we finally got around to learning at procrastination research conference', by Heather Murphy, she states that at least one out five
people are procrastinators. (Murphy, 2017) In making this comment, Murphy (2017) argues his audience to believe that not everyone can be
considered to be a procrastinator. Now considering that one out five people are procrastinators in their live, can there be any side effects to
procrastination? Been a procrastinator can have side effects, for example anxiety, stress, and tension. Personally, I believe that students go more
through this side effects because they are always being bombarded with due dates before the semester has even started. As reported by, Erin Ben–
Moche from the Chicago Tribune newspaper, "Teens report that their stress level during the school year far exceeds what they believe to be healthy
(5.8 versus 3.9 on a 10–point scale) and tops adults' average reported stress levels (5.8 for teens versus 5.1 for adults)" (Erin Ben–Moche, 2017, par.3)
In other words, Erin believes that teen students stress more than adults because of school. As a student, I personally haven't dealt with this kind of high
stress, but in the other hand, I met teenagers who have dealt with this kind of stress during mid–terms
In the Ted Talk by Tim Urban, he touches the topic of anxiety and stress. He goes on by saying that guilt, dread, anxiety, and self
–hatred can be a "dark
playground" when people are doing last minute paperwork or assignments. (Urban, 2016) Like I stated in the beginning of my essay, procrastination is
not something that everyone does, procrastination is more like a decision someone decides to take when they are been lazy. According to Adam
Grant's article, Why I thought myself to procrastinate, "For years, I believed that anything worth doing was worth doing early. In

I had my eyes on his stance which stated that the habit of procrastination is caused by the personality of the individuals. He also mention that fear
of failing the task is the reason why we tend to procrastinate the task. I would say that I have the same opinion with the author on this. We usually
tend to work on something that we have faith and knowledge because, it is easier for us to start and keep it on the right track without fear of being
rejected or fail. Fear of failure made us prefer to push the task aside as we believe that we are not ready yet to get it done. Fear often manifests itself
as procrastination. Most people fear failure, criticism and rejection. It's only normal. We all want to feel good about ourselves. Failure, criticism and
rejection are not pleasant experiences. They lower our self–esteem and make us feel bad about ourselves, so we often avoid doing things that we think
might lead to failure, criticism or rejection (B. Bilanich,

Argumentative Essay On Procrastination
Procrastination is ignoring your responsibilities and avoiding them for no good reason. Experiencing procrastination can have a positive or negative
reaction according to the amount of the behavior. The person that is procrastinating must first realize that they have a problem in order to find ways to
overcome procrastination because they are putting their health, family and job at risk. Twenty percent of people realize they are procrastinators which
in the end becomes a lifestyle. There are various reasons why people procrastinate.
People procrastinate because they are afraid to fail, they have poor time management, they avoid things that seem difficult or they feel depressed or
they feel guilty. Some people believe that other procrastinate out of laziness or lack of discipline, but I know there are perfectionists that often
procrastinate as well. For example, a perfectionist may put off writing a paper until the night before it is due and then they will have an excuse saying,
"I restarted because I didn't like what I had written.". Another example is that some philosophers and scientists, such that Aristotle questioned if time
even exists, and Einstein believed that time was a muddle in which the past, present and future were only illusions.
First, a person must be honest with themselves and recognize that they are procrastinating. After coming to the realization that one is a procrastinator,

No idleness, no laziness, no procrastination: never put off till tomorrow what you can do today." –––Philip Stanhope
1.What is Procrastination?
Procrastination is actually giving priority to less urgent tasks in place of more urgent tasks. It can also be defined as doing the things causing immense
pleasure to a person instead of less pleasurable ones and thus, postponing the important tasks, sometimes to the edge of the deadline.
2.Why do people procrastinate?
The principle of pleasure is mostly the main cause of procrastination. Every human prefers to do desirable tasks which are a source of joy for him
instead of taking painstaking and stressful tasks on his head.
3.Reasons of Procrastination.
a.Skill Deficits: It is one of the major reasons for procrastination. If a person does not have the skill or ability to complete the required task, he would

b.Lack of Interest: It plays a significant role in procrastination. If the work stuff seems boring to a person, he won't show any interest in that, which
would lead him to take the work casually. The solution is to 'just do it' which would save you time for the tasks in which you are more

the most important employee at your company, so you have to find solutions instead of putting them off for tomorrow. 1. Get Your Priorities in Order

more important things later on. You need to make sure that you have your priorities for your day in order before you tackle your to–do list. Priorities
are important for your company as well. You are investing your money and time in your business. You have to pay attention to the small details, or
your business could be attacked by a hacker. If a major disaster strikes, your records could be lost. One way to mitigate these problems is by backing
up your data. The right software program can help prevent your data from being hacked. If a natural disaster occurs, it will also ensure that you can

university students rank highly among those mostly vulnerable to procrastination (Learning Commons Fastfacts Series, 2004). The reasons according
to this group are: (i) there is always a tremendous amount of work to do. Regardless of how much time the students spend studying, it can seem
impossible to get finished; (ii) for most students, only a few hours each day are spent in class and labs. The majority of time is unstructured, and
students are responsible for deciding what to do and when to do it; and (iii) in the university environment, particularly in residence, there is usually
something more enjoyable to do than studying. Many activities compete for a limited number of hours in a week, and studying is often pushed to the
bottom of the list. It also recognized that many mathematics students refer to the subjects as being difficult. And the (Learning Commons Fastfacts

that they procrastinate. This habit affects so many and it one of the most difficult tendencies to kick but fortunately there are ways to go about
solving the issue so today I would like to inform you all about why people procrastinate and the effects it can have and also ways to overcome it.
Many of us can recognize that leaving things to the very last minute is not very wise and can cause an abundance of unnecessary stress. Procrastination
is self–sabotage whether it's to pay a credit card bill, fill up gas in your car, or complete your homework. Procrastination ranges from the most
miniscule task to the most significant ones so the question is why do people procrastinate? For myself I rationalize this behavior by saying I work
best under pressure but through my recent discoveries I found this isn't true at all, it was just an excuse. The heavy pressure we feel when an
important deadline is approaching physically forces us to complete our work but that doesn't always mean that our work is good. Starting a project
weeks before it is due guarantees that we had time to think and process your ideas therefore our work is our work is generally well–prepared. Starting
an assignment the night before it's due forces us to rush through it just to get it done it does not ensure that our best abilities are being put to use and
usually ensures that our best abilities are being put to use and usually ensures that it's satisfactory at its best from a psychological standpoint

Procrastination Essays
To procrastinate is to put off doing something out of casual carelessness or common laziness. It often needlessly
postpones or delays events or objectives in your life which can effect others. Procrastination is almost like a drug in your life, because once you start
doing it a little bit, it slowly adds up to a dependency that you will find to be common habit. Although this is what we all perceive procrastination to
be bad, there are some benefits to it. It can have beneficial impact on how you take pressure, or how well you can act when time is limited.
Procrastination is something that you don't naturally have an innate ability to do. It is often brought on by finding

But it will progressively add up in most cases, the student will start to not study like they know they should be, but rather they go and do
something else that isn't as beneficial. After a while that people start to do this they think its not bad, even thought they are missing a few points
here and there from lowered studies and completed work. But it can eventually lean up to skipping classes, which is one of the worse things you
can do while in college, since generally there are no make ups for missed assignments and test. This can then hurt your grades entirely, and
therefore may have you retake certain classes or take another year. This in turn can cause financial problems if it where to happen on multiple
occasions, then can effect your later life on paying off the bills or charges that were made from it. Procrastination is not always a very bad thing
though; there are some points in your life that it could prove to be a plus. If done enough you will be use to doing things last minute, which could
possibly help you in your career with handling pressure when you boss tells you do something within a set amount of time. Also extended amounts
of doing this bad habit could help you learn to take pressure better, as example when you have a huge paper due by the next morning and you need to
keep your self calm or else it will show when your writing the paper. Even though these sound like positive measures to procrastinating they are really
not worth the

Cause Of Procrastination In College

  • 1. Cause Of Procrastination In College In college, have you ever waited until the last minute to sit down and pull an all–nighter to finish a paper? Well if you did and you did it multiple times you were basically considered a procrastinator. Procrastination is the action of delaying or postponing something like an assignment. Many college students like to have fun until they realize that they have a paper due in the next twenty–four hours. They hurry back to their computers and count down the hours until the due date expires. According to this article The 4 Main Causes of Procrastination Revealed, there are four main reason why procrastination takes place. Number one reason is the Fear of Failure. Deep down if one fears the consequences of failing they often put it off or just decline to do the action. Second main reason is Extensive Perfectionism. Per the Motivation Grid, "If you are a self–confessed perfectionist, then you might find it difficult to take action unless you know you can do a job with which you will be totally satisfied." The last two reasons are what are considered the obvious reasons of procrastination. Third and fourth reasons is that one has lack of focus and no energy levels at all. The question is, does working on a paper the last minute (procrastination) drastically affect a college student's grades? Per the Dailey Universe, "Procrastination affects more than just grades", "Procrastination affects health, sociality, schoolwork and memories. Limiting the amount of time, you need to do your best on assignments will give grades that don't show your potential. Doing work ahead of time significantly increases grades." The more time you spend on a paper, the better your performance on the paper will be. A lot of teachers, from beginning of high school, insist on teaching their students to start writing an outline, for the paper they will later write. It helps the students to draw up their ideas about the topic and they will introduce these ideas when the time comes to write the paper. It helps the writer put the ideas together so that the paper is organized and it flows. The outlines help the students paper, become a better and helps the student fully understand the topic. • 2. What Are The Effects Of Procrastination Procrastination is all too familiar to most of the people and it has become a widespread phenomenon at all ages of life. In childhood, children will make every effort to put off finishing their homework. When they grow up into adults, they start to delay writing up their thesis, repeatedly declare they will start their diets tomorrow, or postpone until deadlines finishing the tasks. Yet people also sometimes struggle to control theirprocrastination. But things always go against with what they want. This essay revolves around the definition and the negative effects of procrastination, reasons for procrastination behaviors and the effective solution to procrastination behaviors. Firstly, as regards to the meaning of procrastination, basically, it refers to the delay or postponement of task or decision–making initiation or completion, which is a psychological behavior that allows a person to postpone or delay a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We can do many things on time on most occasions without any procrastination. Therefore, we have to be determined to eliminate it as much as possible. Second, you need to understand how procrastination affects our life and then take corresponding measures such as write down your tasks in a visible place with their due dates so that you are reminded all the time, think about what attracts you to your assignment, reassess your assignment and make it less intimidating, list a possible obstacle for completing assignment and avoid those disturbances deliberately, create a reward system to celebrate successful tasks, develop a flexible schedule that only include important task because rigid one can only leave you feeling overwhelmed, etc. Last but not least, it's your determination and courage that counts when you are procrastinating. • 3. The Pros And Cons Of Procrastination Procrastination, Is it really all that bad? I personally don't think that procrastination is a horrible thing, to be honest, I don't think that it should even be called procrastination and I'm not the only one that seems to think this way. I am going to explain why I think that procrastination is not as bad as people say. To support my reasoning, I will provide information from a few professionals who have done research on just the question, Is all procrastination really that bad? First, let me start off by saying that in a TED Talk by Tim Urban titled Inside the mind of a procrastinator, Urban talks about how he is quite the procrastinator and he wanted to share to the world why procrastinators are the way they are. Urban explains that "Both brains have a Rational Decision–Maker in them, but the procrastinator's brain also has an Instant Gratification Monkey.", but I disagree with this I believe that everyone has an "Instant Gratification Monkey" because as he later said. "sometimes it makes sense to be doing things that are easy and fun, like when you're having dinner or going to bed or enjoying well–earned leisure time. That's why there's an overlap. Sometimes they agree. But other times, it makes much more sense to be doing things that are harder and less pleasant, for the sake of the big picture. And that's when we have a conflict."(Urban, 2016). As far as I can tell everyone wants to have fun, so how is it possible for anyone, not to be a procrastinator? Also, whats ... • 4. Effect Of Procrastination Effect of Procrastination on life satisfaction Abstract The aim of this study was to determine whether there exists a relationship between procrastination and life satisfaction. Introduction The Latin word 'procrastination' means delaying or postponing something. Procrastination is avoiding doing a task that needs to be done or postponing it until the next day what can be done today. Possibly each one of us has delayed some unappealing task to the last minute. Procrastination affects a person's work and only leaves him with feelings of guilt, self disgust, depression and inadequacy. Often we try to disguise our avoidance by being very busy doing things that may be interesting, and useful, but don't contribute towards the main goal. It is most prevalent in teenagers and university students. People who procrastinate do not focus towards the main goal but do other interesting things on pretext of avoiding doing something that needs to be done at that time. Doing things at the last minute becomes a habit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The study took place in a classroom at University of Westminster. • 5. The Importance Of Procrastination Is Procrastination Part of Human Nature Procrastination is my expertise and a way of living. I know this is a bad habit but I can't seem to manage my time and feelings. I wish that I can run away from my responsibilities but they are always chasing me down. When these responsibilities are about to catch up to me, I run in maximum overdrive so that they can stop following me. Procrastinating has gotten me into a lot of problems especially in school. I always wait to the last minute to do any schoolwork and it usually leads to anxiety. Heck, I even waited to the last minute to write this essay. I know it's bad but I can't make myself do anything because I lack any kind of motivation. Procrastination does not only affect me but, I see that many of my classmates also have this problem and they are rushing to get work done before it's due. I see them do their homework one class period before it's due. Instead of doing work, they are hanging out and having fun without any care in the world. I think that procrastination is a natural human trait because it affects so many people. Tim Urban, a blogger writes about his experiences and how procrastination has affected him. He was saying how he had to write a ninety page essay and kept holding it off until there was only three days till it was due. He said that he pulled all nighters so that he could finish this essay. He gives us a closer look in the mind of a procrastinator and says , " Both brains have a Rational Decision–Maker in them, but the procrastinator's brain also has an Instant Gratification Monkey."( Urban, 2016) The rational decision maker is responsible and it wants to tend to our responsibilities. The Gratification Monkey just like the easy works and doesn't enjoy life and have fun. The gratification monkey lives a sad life with no meaning or purpose. Whenever there's some sort of deadline, "Panic Monster is dormant most of the time, but he suddenly wakes up anytime a deadline gets too close or there's danger of public embarrassment, a career disaster or some other scary consequence. And importantly, he's the only thing the Monkey is terrified of."(Urban 2016) The panic monster is what pushes us to work but other than that, the Gratification ... • 6. Perfectionism And Procrastination "Procrastination is a common form of self–regulatory failure with substantive connections" where the tendency is to put off tasks. (Steel, Farrari, 2013) Perfectionism is when one sets very high expectations often in an "overly critical manner" (Frost, Marten, Lahart,&Rosenblate,1990). There's two types of perfectionism, adaptive and maladaptive where adaptive components are beneficial to the situational and maladaptive components will be detrimental to the individual. • 7. Speech On Procrastination Procrastination, a college student's worst enemy, but closest friend. I've developed this habit where I wait until the very last minute doing an assignment. It has gotten to the point where the clock is ticking down to the last few minutes and I am sitting at my desk just now starting the assignment. What do I do to get in this sticky situation you ask? I do everything but the thing I'm supposed to do. Although I would have earned better grades from doing things days before it's due, I've mastered the technique of putting it off till the last minute. It's a bad habit I picked up, but not one that i've tried to quit. RECEIVING THE ASSIGNMENT Procrastinating comes in a few stages, the first is receiving the assignment. Receiving the assignment and due date sparked the lies of "oh I'll start this as soon as I get home," or "I'm actually going to get this done early so I don't have to worry about it." So i psych myself up to be motivated to finish it early although it never works out that way. The Professor of the class usually makes a comment of "This isn't something you can do the night before it's due." Well obviously in college anything is possible, and they know that at least half of the class is going to do it the night before its due anyways. As soon as the class gets over the paper gets stuffed in my backpack and remains forgotten until I stumble upon it crumpled in the bottom of the bag. Realistically, i do know about the assignment it's just filed in the part of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Why Procrastination Is Bad What is procrastination? Is it good, is it bad? Procrastination is defined as delaying or putting off a task. In my experiences it has been bad but it has also been good. And I think that it can go either way and help you and or not help you. The whole book of Think and Grow Rich covered procrastination in several different chapters but the way chapter 8 described it was superior to all the others. It also talked about talking less and listening more but not taking others opinions to heart so quickly which applies to so many people in the world today. I wonder what it would be like if just half of us decided to keep our mouths shut and ears open. Procrastination can be pretty bad for someone considering the fact that if it is a huge project or essay and you have a very little amount of time then you are going to rush and it is gonna be sloppy and not your best work. Chapter 8 of Think and Grow Rich said that procrastination is opposite of decision, which means that instead of deciding to sit down and take your time on whatever you are working on you put it off until another time. Always talking isn't teaching you anything but if you listen instead you will be surprised about all the knowledge you can obtain just by talking less! • 9. The Causes Of Procrastination Procrastination is the avoidance of doing a task that needs to be accomplished. It is a common issue most Americans face today. Procrastination can be argued whether or not if it's caused by choice. There are various factors that lead to procrastination such as; our being brain programmed to procrastinate, feeling like you aren't in the right frame of mind to do a particular task, and the lack of self–confidence. Procrastination doesn't happen just because, it is a result of our brain being programmed to do so. Typically, we procrastinate because we visualize the hardest part of something that needs to be done. It could be a range of doing a project, assignment, or even cleaning your house. According to Ciotti (2012): our brain has the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This means we put important things off to avoid being uncomfortable. Dr. Sinclair also states, "It's a human reaction to avoid doing stuff we don't want to do to avoid potentially difficult situations, it's all about our confidence and a fear that it won't go well and we won't be good enough." This is something most can relate to because we visualize something going wrong so we won't do it. Another thing that can be involved is perfectionism, we may not want to attempt something unless we feel sure that we will be great at it. It becomes a vicious cycle, the more we procrastinate the more distressed we are and undermine our own confidence. Procrastination also happens because we may have a low self–confidence. "When difficulties arise, people with weak self–confidence easily develop doubts about their ability to accomplish the task at hand, while those with strong beliefs are more likely to continue their efforts." (Heshmat, 2016). Whenever this happens, people miss opportunities to acquire new knowledge and skills. An example of this would be someone with a low sense of confidence for math avoids enrollment for an upper–level math course (Heshmat, 2016). • 10. Procrastination Method Back in dark ages, when people used to have to tune into their shows once a week, it seemed like people would get a lot more done. If nothing was on that interested him or her, they would simply find something else to do such as yard work or reading a book. Now days, with options such as Hulu and Netflix, it is easy to fall into the trap of binge watching. I am one of the many people who have fell victim to binge– watching. I'll always keep telling myself just one more episode, but the next time I look at the clock, it's one a.m., and I still haven't started any of my homework. Then, I will have to stay up even later trying to do all of the homework that I had put off doing. I usually end up rushing to get the work done, and I am super tired ... Then, I'll choose watching a episode on Netflix over starting my homework, then next thing I know its already almost midnight, and I still hadn't touched my homework. I used to just keep pushing sleep further and further back, so I could sneak in a couple more episodes. Eventually the lack of sleep would catch up with me, and I would crash. Since online TV was introduced, many peoples watching habits have changed. Instead of waiting until the next episode came out a week later, people can simply just hit the next episode button and waste and entire day away. Because of this, people have began to severely procrastinate, myself included, but since I have gotten Netflix back, I have learned manage my time and set my priorities straight. • 13. Procrastination And Procrastination Is Not My Problem Essay When we think of procrastination the first word that comes to most of our minds is lazy. Laziness and procrastination seem to go hand in hand and often procrastination is caused by us simply being lazy. However, procrastination is a chronic and constant problem for many of us and while some of us may also be chronically lazy as well, most of us aren't. I am, unfortunately, a person that battles procrastination and I can say that laziness is usually not my problem. I believe that procrastination comes down to one thing; we simply do not want to do whatever it is we need to do. The reasons we feel the way we do can vary according to what we are avoiding and from person to person. Many of those of us attending school procrastinate over school work. It doesn't matter if we are in college, elementary school, or high school, at some point most of us have procrastinated over one assignment or another. Sometimes we are just being lazy, we know how to do the work and we understand the assignment, but we would rather watch TV. On the other hand, some us procrastinate because we don't understand the assignment and are too afraid to ask for help. In other cases, we may understand the assignment, but can't seem to concentrate on it; so we put it off. Many of us have put off an assignment for all of these reasons at some point. If we were smart we would ask for help, put off watching TV, or figure out why we are having trouble concentrating, but most of us don't. Another reason I often ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Every time I sat down to start, my mind would drift away and I would think about anything but this. There always seems to be something that is far more important or interesting that needs to be taken care of first. The deadline is getting closer and I am starting to get anxious on whether or not I am going to finish in time, yet I do this to myself all of the time. These actions and feelings are considered textbook traits of procrastination. Defined as the act of delaying the completion of one task in favor of another less urgent or more pleasurable task, procrastination can affect people in all walks of life (2007). The purpose of this paper is to discuss and explore the growing phenomenon of procrastination and its effects on academic achievement as well as offer tips on how to combat it. Although the definition of procrastination varies between individuals, the theories on understanding why people procrastinate generally tend to be grouped into four different perspectives: differential, motivational and volitional, clinical and situational psychology (2013). These psychologies discuss all of the behavioral, biological and cultural aspects of procrastination. Something that must be noted is that the lines between these psychologies are blurred and it is difficult to place a reason on why an individual procrastinates in solely one area. The differential psychology perspective looks at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Procrastination And Its Effects On Students Everyday students procrastinate. This is not something new, however. Procrastination is a behavior that started a long time ago. It is a phenomenon as old as the universe. Most students are seen procrastinating every day. Zarick & Stonebraker (2009) conducted a survey among students. They wrote: As expected, the effects of procrastination are widespread. Only a single student claimed "never" to be affected by procrastination in any of the three categories and 42 percent admitted that they "usually" or "always" were affected in at least one of the three. About one–third admitted that the quality of their papers/projects usually or always suffered, and one–fourth said the same about their exams. Only about 5 percent of respondents usually or always turned assignments in late as a result of procrastination. (p. 212) This survey shows the majority of students realize and admit their procrastination. The causes of this common behavior are due to increasing advancements in technology, work ethic, stress, and time management skills. Advancements in technology are creating distractions for students. Students are prioritizing their time with things such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, and Netflix. Instead of directing their attention to current assignments, projects, and tests, they are focusing more on the latest app or device. These distractions are taking student's time and attention away from their schoolwork along with other chores and obligations. Some schools ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Negative Influences Of Procrastination Negative Influences of Procrastination We've all had a paper due on a Wednesday that we had known about for the past two weeks, but for some unknown and involuntary reason, we choose to save it for a Tuesday evening, which turns into a Wednesday morning as we frantically work to finish an assignment we probably could have finished in class over a couple of days. We may have been preoccupied those couple of weeks, with a job, or sports; maybe even putting together a fundraiser of some sort. Or maybe, we haven't been busy at all, and have chosen to go home after class and eat rice– cakes and watch Netflix all afternoon, into the evening, and continuously tell ourselves "I'll get it done tomorrow." Many of us have a habit of making nearly every important task, (whether it be homework, paying a bill, making a phone call, or even booking a trip) an "oh, I'll do that tomorrow" type of job. What most of us realize, but choose to ignore, is that continuously putting of these duties of ours will not only have negative consequences on the result of the job that needs to be done, but on our mental physical and mental health as well. People may have excuses for leaving things to the last minute, but the hard truth that they need to accept is that they are a habitual procrastinator. As the grade level increases, the work load and difficulty increases, leading to more procrastination. Most students in high school procrastinate, and the question is, why? Is the work too hard? Do their teacher's leniency cause them to? Do students not have enough time? Do extra–curricular activities take up too much of their time? There has been many other research studies on this topic, but I wanted to see if the students in my survey and interviews had any different correlations. Because I am a senior in high school with a heavy work load and limited time, I struggle with procrastinating. The purpose of my research is to see if other people have the same problems I do getting my work done. I asked questions that relate to myself including extra–curricular actives and home lives. I wanted to see if my home life and extra–curricular activities caused my procrastination as well as my fellow class mates. I wondered if everyone had the same reasons or if everyone had their own unique cause of procrastination. Literature Review In my study, laziness is the most common reason student procrastinate. Procrastination : The Problem Of Procrastination Essay Many people believe that procrastination is derived completely from laziness but the culprit could be multiple things, including perfectionism. This can become a huge problem for perfectionists, especially perfectionist students. They most likely will overthink projects and put off getting started because they're afraid they won't be able to make them as perfect as they want them to be. Luckily this is a common issue among students and there are many different techniques to cope with it. Students can overcome procrastination due to perfectionism by setting S.M.A.R.T goals, creating detailed to–do lists, and by just getting started. Students can avoid procrastination by following the S.M.A.R.T. goal guidelines. All of your goals should be specific (s), measurable (m), achievable (a), realistic (r), and time–sensitive (t). Instead of a general goal like "I want to get my degree," turn that into something more specific like "I am going to get my Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from George Mason University" ("Ensure Your Success"). To make goals measurable, establish timelines and dates so you can measure your progress and stay on track to meet targets. Goals need to be achievable. • 31. Thesis About Procrastination People often relate procrastination to lazy people, adamantly believing that it leads to inevitable failure. With Countless of articles , books & guides on how to get over procrastination , The Author John Rampton in his article "Procrastination or Contemplation?" chose to spark off a debate by issuing his ideas on how procrastination can actually be fruitful. Rampton states the bright side of procrastination and how it can lead to success rather than the common negative myths about this issue. As much as I was convinced by Mr.Rampton's ideas, I still refuse to believe in them. Mr. Rampton, you give me no guarantees. In this article John Rampton listed some of the positive aspects of procrastination, although some of them were both logical and relatable but the non–credibility of the sources weakened them & made them less convincible. What made his article engaging is that the ideas he introduced were relatable to the majority. As a procrastinator myself , i found his definition of Procrastination quite interesting where he said "procrastination is using fear as a motivator" , its actually true that we finish some tasks on time only out of fear. Besides, the reasons we delay doing a certain task is usually because it's either a boring task or a stressful one , which is what the author stated to let readers ... • 32. Procrastination Is Natural Essay Is procrastination natural? Procrastination cannot be considered natural, because natural can be define as something that people have become use to doing in their everyday live. In his recent Ted Talk, Inside the Mind of a Master Procrastinator, Tim Urban, states that everybody is a procrastinator, and honestly, I disagree with his idea. Not everybody is a procrastinator. In the article, 'What we finally got around to learning at procrastination research conference', by Heather Murphy, she states that at least one out five people are procrastinators. (Murphy, 2017) In making this comment, Murphy (2017) argues his audience to believe that not everyone can be considered to be a procrastinator. Now considering that one out five people are procrastinators in their live, can there be any side effects to procrastination? Been a procrastinator can have side effects, for example anxiety, stress, and tension. Personally, I believe that students go more through this side effects because they are always being bombarded with due dates before the semester has even started. As reported by, Erin Ben– Moche from the Chicago Tribune newspaper, "Teens report that their stress level during the school year far exceeds what they believe to be healthy (5.8 versus 3.9 on a 10–point scale) and tops adults' average reported stress levels (5.8 for teens versus 5.1 for adults)" (Erin Ben–Moche, 2017, par.3) In other words, Erin believes that teen students stress more than adults because of school. As a student, I personally haven't dealt with this kind of high stress, but in the other hand, I met teenagers who have dealt with this kind of stress during mid–terms In the Ted Talk by Tim Urban, he touches the topic of anxiety and stress. He goes on by saying that guilt, dread, anxiety, and self –hatred can be a "dark playground" when people are doing last minute paperwork or assignments. (Urban, 2016) Like I stated in the beginning of my essay, procrastination is not something that everyone does, procrastination is more like a decision someone decides to take when they are been lazy. According to Adam Grant's article, Why I thought myself to procrastinate, "For years, I believed that anything worth doing was worth doing early. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I had my eyes on his stance which stated that the habit of procrastination is caused by the personality of the individuals. He also mention that fear of failing the task is the reason why we tend to procrastinate the task. I would say that I have the same opinion with the author on this. We usually tend to work on something that we have faith and knowledge because, it is easier for us to start and keep it on the right track without fear of being rejected or fail. Fear of failure made us prefer to push the task aside as we believe that we are not ready yet to get it done. Fear often manifests itself as procrastination. Most people fear failure, criticism and rejection. It's only normal. We all want to feel good about ourselves. Failure, criticism and rejection are not pleasant experiences. They lower our self–esteem and make us feel bad about ourselves, so we often avoid doing things that we think might lead to failure, criticism or rejection (B. Bilanich, ... Another example is that some philosophers and scientists, such that Aristotle questioned if time even exists, and Einstein believed that time was a muddle in which the past, present and future were only illusions. First, a person must be honest with themselves and recognize that they are procrastinating. Procrastination is probably the single most common time management problem (Learning Common Fastfacts Series, 2004). One basic thing about procrastination is that everyone procrastinates to some extent. However, some reasons can be put forward why university students rank highly among those mostly vulnerable to procrastination (Learning Commons Fastfacts Series, 2004). The reasons according to this group are: (i) there is always a tremendous amount of work to do. Regardless of how much time the students spend studying, it can seem impossible to get finished; (ii) for most students, only a few hours each day are spent in class and labs. The majority of time is unstructured, and students are responsible for deciding what to do and when to do it; and (iii) in the university environment, particularly in residence, there is usually something more enjoyable to do than studying. Many activities compete for a limited number of hours in a week, and studying is often pushed to the bottom of the list. It also recognized that many mathematics students refer to the subjects as being difficult. And the (Learning Commons Fastfacts Series, 2004) have already asserts that procrastination often results

  • 40. Informative Speech On Procrastination Hi, my names Sarah and I would like to inform you on something myself you and many Americans have problems with. I chose to do this speech on something I do on a regular basis and I know I'm not completely alone. Whether you're a person who puts things off to the last minute or you'd love to get things done with right away, I have to assume that all of us at some point has become a victim to procrastination. I found I'm not alone according to two leading experts on procrastination, Joseph Ferrari, professor of psychology at DePaul University and Timothy Phikul, professor of psychology at Carleton University 20% of people identify themselves as chronic procrastinators and up to 70 percent of students in one study said that they procrastinate. This habit affects so many and it one of the most difficult tendencies to kick but fortunately there are ways to go about solving the issue so today I would like to inform you all about why people procrastinate and the effects it can have and also ways to overcome it. Many of us can recognize that leaving things to the very last minute is not very wise and can cause an abundance of unnecessary stress. Procrastination is self–sabotage whether it's to pay a credit card bill, fill up gas in your car, or complete your homework. Procrastination ranges from the most miniscule task to the most significant ones so the question is why do people procrastinate? For myself I rationalize this behavior by saying I work best under pressure but through my recent discoveries I found this isn't true at all, it was just an excuse. The heavy pressure we feel when an important deadline is approaching physically forces us to complete our work but that doesn't always mean that our work is good. Starting a project weeks before it is due guarantees that we had time to think and process your ideas therefore our work is our work is generally well–prepared. Starting an assignment the night before it's due forces us to rush through it just to get it done it does not ensure that our best abilities are being put to use and usually ensures that our best abilities are being put to use and usually ensures that it's satisfactory at its best from a psychological standpoint procrastinators can adapt ... • 41. Procrastination Essays      To procrastinate is to put off doing something out of casual carelessness or common laziness. It often needlessly postpones or delays events or objectives in your life which can effect others. Procrastination is almost like a drug in your life, because once you start doing it a little bit, it slowly adds up to a dependency that you will find to be common habit. Although this is what we all perceive procrastination to be bad, there are some benefits to it. It can have beneficial impact on how you take pressure, or how well you can act when time is limited.      Procrastination is something that you don't naturally have an innate ability to do. It is often brought on by finding ways... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But it will progressively add up in most cases, the student will start to not study like they know they should be, but rather they go and do something else that isn't as beneficial. After a while that people start to do this they think its not bad, even thought they are missing a few points here and there from lowered studies and completed work. But it can eventually lean up to skipping classes, which is one of the worse things you can do while in college, since generally there are no make ups for missed assignments and test. This can then hurt your grades entirely, and therefore may have you retake certain classes or take another year. This in turn can cause financial problems if it where to happen on multiple occasions, then can effect your later life on paying off the bills or charges that were made from it. Procrastination is not always a very bad thing though; there are some points in your life that it could prove to be a plus. If done enough you will be use to doing things last minute, which could possibly help you in your career with handling pressure when you boss tells you do something within a set amount of time. Also extended amounts of doing this bad habit could help you learn to take pressure better, as example when you have a huge paper due by the next morning and you need to keep your self calm or else it will show when your writing the paper.
