How New Media Technologies Were Used in Construction, Research, Planning and Evaluation
1. Evaluation Question 4: How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages? Alfieburkett
2. Computer The first and most obvious new technology that we used was a computer. This was to research the artist we want to use and also to set a blog. We would use our computer to come back to to upload anything that we want to be examed, this would include; decisions that our group had made; changes to our artists (which we had problems with); filming account and filming issues. The computers came in very handy because all of the software that we would need to use to edit our work was on them when we had finished filming. Software such as iMovie, where all of our footage was cut, chosen and edited helped for our final music video to look professional. We also used software such as Photoshop and GIMP to make our ancillary tasks. The computers that we helped us to gather lots of different research too. For example when we needed to look at existing work for inspiration, or when we needed to upload different things, without the computer we would have been stuck.
3. Canon digital camera and tripod Obviously, without the canon digital cameras that the school have to offer, there would be no project as there would be no easy way of filming our footage. The camera and the tripod that were very easy to use and were very handy. This is because they were small and lightweight, yet very effective. We learnt many different things when we went out to film with these cameras, for example how light the setting needed to be for the camera to pick up the best possible footage. Sometimes we would have to go and re-film something because once uploaded onto the computer we could clearly see that it was too dark to be used in the music video. A plus about these cameras was how practical they were to get from place to place. Not only this but we didn’t once face a time when a camera wasn’t available to us so we were always able to film whenever we wanted to.
4. Software on computers As previously stated on a slide above, without the software available to us we would have never been able to make our music videos and ancillary tasks as well as we have done. For the editing of our footage that we had taken from the camera and then uploaded we used the software iMovie (iMovie is a proprietary video editing software applications). iMovie was very useful and effective to use for the editing of our footage. It was very easy to use as we had previously used this software last year. This year I not only found it easy to use, I also extended my knowledge by learning different techniques such as green screening (which we tried to incorporate into our music video but it didn’t suit our style of music video), and also fast cut montage which we did use in our music video. This software enabled us to also get all of the music in time with the video. This was very important in our video as a lot of the video is lip syncing. We also used other software such as Serif PhotoPlus, GIMP and PhotoShop to edit our photos that we had taken our ancillary task (the album covers and also the magazine advert).
5. Still Cameras/Lighting When we went out to each location we would take photos to show the locations that were chosen and the reason for them being chosen. The stills cameras also got the photos for our two ancillary tasks. Although we had a flash on the camera, it was always enough light. For example when we were doing the photos in the underpass, due to the weather it was rather dark and dull, our solution to this was to use other light sources for example, at one point we had a large white light behind the camera to try and enhance the lighting of the scene. The flash of the camera was also a good asset, this was because when we were taking photos of the graffiti in the underpass without the flash it was quite dark and dull although they are very vibrant, but when you add the flash it changes the perspective of the graffiti, it makes it have a shine and makes it catch the audiences eye.
6. Software used within blogger There were a few ways in which I embedded by work onto my blogger, for example; my videos; my slideshows; and my photos The first way in which I did this was to use an online software called SlideShare. SlideShare is basically a programme that allows you to convert and compress your presentations so they can fit onto one window, meaning you can change the slide by just clicking next like usual. The other way of uploading that I used was YouTube.com, this was very easy and quick to use. You only have to upload the video and then take the embedding code from YouTube.com and place it in a post in Blogger.com and the video will appear on your computer as long as you have flash player downloaded onto your computer. The software that I have used will hopefully help me to get a good grade this year as I am showing that I can use different forms of media to upload and show my work to you.
