The Room
The Room I was sleeping soundly in my new house. My mother and I recently moved out from our
old house after my parents got divorced. I loved our old house. I lived in there ever since I could
remember. All the memories still so clear. Like, under the big oak tree in our front yard where my
first dog named Daisy is buried. Or the treehouse in the backyard where I used to play with my
dolls, and read my favorite childhood book "Red light, green light." Which is also of the game me
and my friends down the road used to play on the paved driveway in my front yard that my
handprint is molded in. But anyway, back to the story. I was in my room sleeping soundly when all
of the sudden I heard a big crash downstairs. My eyelids popped open, I sat up quickly and spun my
head both ways. The room was black as pitch. The only light was the reflection of the moonlight
shining through the the window. I lifted my blanket and moved my legs off of the bed. I rubbed my
eyes with my hands as I stood up. It was still pitch black. Now I have only been in this house for 3
days, but I still know my way around the place. I walked in a straight path feeling around for the
light switch. After I found it, I flicked the switch and the lights came on with a quiet buzzing noise. I
spun the doorknob and gave the door a little push, but the door still seemed to creak loudly. I looked
ahead of me. The hallway I was standing in was a lot brighter then my room had been because the
window was a

He may act appropriately when interacting with his classmates, but his behavior changes when
working on homework and in class assignments. As an assistant teacher, my duty is to help him
engage in the material and assist him when he is struggling. When asked to reread passages because
he cannot answer the question or returning assignments with incorrect responses, he becomes upset
which turns to anger. The first phase is sadness; he becomes upset and asks why his choice isn't
correct. After a brief discussion, I acknowledge his efforts and ask him to reread the question and go
back into the passage to find the answer. At this point in time, Giovanni becomes noncompliant and
refuses to do any work. He draws all over his paper, tears it apart and becomes withdrawn and
extremely frustrated. As a result of his inability to complete his work he punches and slaps himself.
These behaviors occur at different times and are often unpredictable, for example when asked to

Rebecca Haidt's Women, Work And Clothing
Rebecca Haidt's Women, work and clothing in eighteenth–century Spain is a nine chapter book that
shows and explains the history of how clothing was able to hit all corners of Spanish society of the
18th century. She reveals what the women did to get the clothing they wore, even if it was trading,
barging, stealing, selling, and creating garments that marked their social status in their society they
were living in. The author also goes in each chapter about the depection of them in the theater. She
has a Dedication, List of Illustrations, and Acknowledgements before the Introduction chapter out of
the nine chapters of the main book. After the conclusion there is a Bibliography and an Index.

She had to restrict to it these two areas because in her own words, "... In part because the tonadilla is

the eighteenth–century capital. (43)" Moving on to the second chapter of Haidt's book.
The second chapter of this book is, Petimetria, women's work and the economics of desire. She

Impact On Honor Society
When I received a letter from Phi Theta Kappa a year or so ago, I was unaware of the impact joining
the organization would have on my personal life. From my engagement with Phi Theta Kappa, I can
now say that I have experienced the profound impact such a distinction can have on a student's
intellectual and professional development throughout their college careers. Many would agree that a
student's direct involvement with honors programs and honor societies is beneficial, but rarely is it
addressed that these student–based organizations have just as big of an impact on their surrounding
communities. By recognizing that these impacts happen because honor societies foster and
encourage a specific set of values within an activity system, we are closer to being able to analyze
such organizations as effective discourse communities. Following are six secondary sources I have
gathered to complement my research. Much of them have to do with analyzing the impact honor
societies have in general, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, the article may contain a bit of bias since Jones is primarily writing about the honor
societies established at Texas A&M University; his employer. Although biased, Jones does have the
credibility needed to comment about the benefits and successes of the honor societies at Texas A&M
University.
As with other articles, Jones' piece can benefit my project because he provides evidence that honor
societies have a collective benefit. Not only do they develop and foster values of scholarship and
excellence within directly affiliated community members, but they also benefit their surrounding
communities. In Jones' case the surrounding community being benefited was Texas A&M
University itself. Perhaps, for my research, that is also the case. It may be that a consequential
benefit of student engagement with honor societies is the overall reputation of the educational

Summary Of The Opening Chapter Of Dipper's Mistake
Dipper was tired, again. He always stayed up way too late with his computer open on his lap all
night. He'd been trying to write again but the only thing that seemed to give him any inspiration was
one kind stranger that he fortunately got to see every day. Dipper had no idea where he came from,
in fact, no one did. All he ever heard about him was that he was an eccentric business owner that
lived alone out in the woods. Most of the townsfolk were terrified of what wanders through there, so
they figured that he wanted to be left alone.
Which is obviously not the case, thought Dipper. Not with how much he pays attention to me.
It wasn't as if Dipper minded the looks and kind words he received from the man, he liked it very
much, actually. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He would walk in the store everyday, slide up to Dipper, and ask what they had in stock. When he
first began to visit the store, Dipper was annoyed. He had endured enough bullying to last a lifetime,
and he didn't feel like entertaining a new asshole at his nice new job. But he was surprised to learn
that Bill had no negative intentions, and he turned out to be quite sweet. The first flower he had
purchased was a violet rose. Violet roses represent an immediate love; love at first sight, which
Dipper had smiled at. Surely Bill knew nothing of flower meanings, and while he was checking out,
he had planned to give a little quip on the meaning, when Bill had stopped him.
"That's alright, I know what it means." he had smiled lightly, and softly taken the flower from the
blushing boys' hands, only to snip the stem with the nearby clippers, and reached forward to put it
behind Dipper's ear. Which, at this point, had turned a deep red along with his face. Bill had looked
at him and took his hand. He bowed slightly to place a soft kiss to it, then looked up at him with a
grin.
"I'll see you then. Pine Tree." he purred as he walked off and out of the store. Dipper had been
awestruck and amazed at the kindness of the man. For the rest of the day, he couldn't stop fiddling
with the flower tucked oh so gently behind his ear, and every time someone mentioned it being cute
or nice, he couldn't help but

Indigo Financial Analysis
Introduction
History
Indigo Books & Music Inc. started as many separate individually owned bookstores. Coles and
SmithBooks were the first bookstores to open in Canada. In 1995 they merged to form Chapters
which became the largest book retailer in Canada. In 1996 Indigo was founded by Heather Reisman.
Eventually in 2001, Chapters and Indigo merged together to form Indigo Books & Music Inc. In
order to keep up with the changing market, Indigo now aims to sell more non–book merchandise. In
2006, Indigo opened up new locations in Brossard, and Toronto. 2009, Indigo creates Kobo which is
now a global eReading company operating in over 100 countries. To keep retaining loyal customers,
Indigo launched the plum rewards program in 2011. They transformed ... Show more content on

Although there are no major changes to the operations of Indigo, it is evident that as a result of
having a negative net income indicates problems with the company operations. It becomes more
worrying as Indigo's revenue is declining as a result being unable to increase the amount of profit.
They are still unable to cut expenses down enough to maintain a positive net income.
Ratios The 8 ratios that are best used to evaluate indigo are current ratio, debt ratio, rate of return on
owner's equity, price earnings, inventory turnover, interest coverage ratio, dividend payout ratio, and
accounts receivables collection period.
Current Ratio Current ratio indicates a company's ability to pay off short term liabilities. Starting at
2012, the current ratio of Indigo was 1.98, very close to the desired ratio of 2. However since 2015,
the current ratio has declined by 0.09 to 1.89. This shows the company is not in as stable of a
financial standpoint as 2012, due to a lower ability to pay off short term liabilities. However, when
compared to the industrial and sector averages, 1.78 and 1.77 respectively, Indigo actually comes
out as above average. This suggests that despite, a lowered ability to return short term liabilities,
Indigo is still very capable at returning short term liabilities as a result of the nature of the industry

Kappa Alpha Theta And CASA Case Study
"I am a Theta. I am for the child." As an undergraduate, pledging Theta at Phi chapter of Kappa
Alpha Theta has provided me with many opportunities to contribute to my community, especially
through our philanthropy work for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). For 25 years,
Kappa Alpha Theta and CASA have shared a common belief that every abused or neglected child
should be loved, have a safe home, and have the opportunities to succeed. A CASA provides a voice
for children during the juvenile court system. As children move from one foster home to the next,
consumed by the legal system they are too young to understand; a CASA becomes the one constant
these children have. CASA provides a helping hand to these children; they are fundamentally an
extra set of eyes and ears for these children. By getting to know the child, understanding his or her
needs, a CASA advocates and helps find the best permanent home for the child. I became aware of
CASA during my first member meeting at Theta and I instantly wanted to be part of our

necessities such as shoes and clothes and not alone have access to primary physicians or dentists.
There are thousands of children like children of CASA and even adults who do not have access to
proper medical care and dental care. Thus, as dentists, I aim to help the underprivileged population.

Personal Narrative: My Decision To Close The Tualatin Haggen
I am incredibly disappointed in the decision to close the Tualatin Haggen which has been a part of
the Tualatin community for many years. Our Haggen has been around for my entire life and I always
feel at home when I go there; a feeling I believe I share with many of its other customers. I'm friends
with many of the employees and am incredibly saddened to hear that almost all of them will have no
place to work after the store closes. The people who work there are some of the kindest and hardest
working people I have ever met and deserve to have a feeling of security knowing where their next
paycheck is coming from. If the Tualatin Haggen does indeed close I hope there is some way to
allow the 73 people who work at the store to find new jobs within your company. ... Show more

It's a place where people feel happy and are always surrounded by employees who care. It's a
friendly environment that's hard to find at other stores these days. There are many families I have
talked to who have no idea where they are going to shop after the store has closed. Additionally, it
seems impractical to close the store before the lease is up. There will be an empty grocery store in
the heart of our town causing our economy to suffer drastically. If the lease was up, a new company
could buy the location and add a new store to our community, but, instead, the building will now sit
there until the lease is up. Also, it is unfair to refuse to restock the store. It is unfair to the employees
who might be out of a job weeks before you told them they would. Being out of a job sooner than
expected can be detrimental to many of the employee's lives, especially those with families to
support. Lastly, it is unfair to the customers who wish to enjoy Haggen until the closing date on

I feel like having to ask her so many questions made Jane kind of uncomfortable. I think in this
situation, most patients would not open up, but rather shut down. I think that Jane could've stopped
answering the questions before, but thankfully she decided to open up instead.
Why is this therapy the best therapy for the disorder?
This is the best therapy for depression because patients need to feel like they are safe and able to
talk about their problems. In a closed environment, they will probably feel more comfortable
opening up about what is on their mind. I think a lot of people with depression believe they are
insignificant, or that no one cares about them, but having a person they can always rely on and talk
to will definitely change their minds about that. Their therapist will also be able to give them advice
about their situations, so they don't stay in their bad situations. With any other type of therapy, the
patient would not have these types of opportunities to talk.
How do you feel this type of therapy could be improved or more effective?
I think this therapy could be more effective if the therapist already knew why they were talking to
the patient. Perhaps they could have the patient fill out a questionnaire so the therapist has a better
idea of what is going on in their lives. I think it would also be helpful if the therapist got to know the
patient before they asked them about their problems.

The Opening Chapter Of Fahrenheit 451
The significance of the opening chapter or intro was to set up a tone and style of the author. The first
chapter shows how the story may not be as happy and calm as it may seem. It talks about how cruel
the world is and how houses are being burned down because of having books in your home. It was
also made to attract the attention of the reader showing that this is different from a fairy tale . This
also shows the authors style of imagery because Ray Bradbury is constantly giving extra details
making the story a paradox itself because he writes in a way where the story is written as if someone
was describing their dream, except the story is opposite from a dream. The opening scene also gives
us a background of what may occur in the story because it is an introduction. It introduces the
Firemen and what they do. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

occurred in the book to show its impact on the readers. Also near the end, Montag remembers a
bible verse that he had been pondering on since he met granger and his friends, but the moment the
city/ country is destroyed he remembers the verse. It is as if they are restating the whole phoenix
theory again, but instead of a rebirth, it is the creation of something after it is destroyed. All of these
reason are all also related to the bible or God, maybe trying to state a religious view point such as
the the phoenix being Gods way to show rebirth or the bible verse that Montag

Impromptu Research Paper
Have you ever been tapped to make an impromptu group presentation with a half hour's notice?
When is the last time someone asked you for a "brief update" on the status of an upcoming project in
"about an hour"?
Did you ever stand up in the heat of a membership meeting where negativity prevailed and asked
members to consider a more positive stance on an issue?
These scenarios require you to "think on your feet" – give an impromptu speech – if you do not
want to embarrass yourself, and want to demonstrate your knowledge and mental organization.
A well–prepared presentation is possible at the last minute. Be the envy of your organization and
become the go–to person with the strong communication skills by taking initiative and being willing

You can apply the same mantra to impromptu presentations. Sear the basic structure of a
presentation into your memory and volunteer to give speeches on the spot. The more you practice
giving impromptu presentations, the more comfortable you become doing so. Just as people trained
to respond to emergencies at a moment's notice, you will be able to respond with a solid presentation
at a moment's notice.
Consider the following key points as well as how to best communicate the content that is necessary
for the requested presentation.
Please With Threes
A lesson I teach early in my presentation skills workshops, and that I learned in school and in
Toastmasters clubs, is to "please with threes". Otherwise called the rule of threes, this means that
you create a presentation using a speech structure that consists of three main components: an
opening, a body, and a closing. Manage these three major parts of a presentation and your speech
will be organized every time.
Get Off on the Right Foot
Develop an attention–grabbing opening. On short notice, few people expect you to be witty or
humorous. Typically, last–minute presenters are expected to address a specific issue or concern.
Implement the following techniques, however, and you just might come across as witty and instantly
engaging in spite of your last–minute

Will the new building owner want to renew the stores lease? Keeping the New Sudbury location
open where competitor West 49 is moving in will affect store sales. Is it worth the risk to keep that
location open? This store has been open at this location for 10 years and is well known by
customers. St. Marseille worries about the success of the New Sudbury location once West 49 opens
and estimates that in fiscal year 2004 annual store sales at this location would total $350,000 and all
other expenses would remain comparatively stable.
External perspectives The skateboarding and snowboarding business in Ontario has really grown.
Skateboarding became a popular sport and by 2004 there were nine city skateboard parks and plans
to construct three more in Sudbury. The city of London, Ontario has only four skateboard parks to
serve a population of close to 350,000. By the growth of skateboard parks there is an opportunity for
competition to move in as it is doing with the opening of West 49 at the New Sudbury Shopping
Center. There is other competition in Sudbury, Pinnacle Sports, however that store is known for its
biking and cross–country ski equipment and does carry a small amount of skateboarding and
snowboarding equipment but its primary focus is biking and cross–country ski equipment . Skadurz

Instructional Leadership : How Good Principals Promote...
Doctors Joseph and Jo Blase, a husband and wife duo who both teach educational leadership at the
University of Georgia, author Handbook of Instructional Leadership: How Really Good Principals
Promote Teaching and Learning; thereby, adding to an already expansive collection of scholarly
articles coauthored by them on the subject of educational leadership. In this book, the Blases
accomplish two tasks: outlining how principals should apply instructional leadership skills while
performing their job, and how principals should maintain positive relationships with their teachers
while still effectively leading. To accomplish these tasks, the authors divide up the book into brief
chapters that each deal with either an attribute of instructional leadership or a method for
maintaining positive principal–teacher relations. As the authors themselves state, the book
effectively examines "what successful instructional leaders do to enhance teaching and learning and
the effects that their behaviors have on teacher's performance and well–being" (xiii).
To organize their research, the Blases first divide their information into the broad categories of "Part
I: The Art of Science of Instructional Leadership" and "Part II: How Supervisor's Behaviors–
Positive and Negative– Affect Teachers." By first dividing their information into these two broad
categories, the authors effectively organize their research. While the concept of carrying out

Chapter Summary Of Opening Skinner's Box
In the second chapter of Opening Skinner's box, Slater wrote about Stanley's obedience to authority
experiment. He used random people off the streets as volunteers and two actors. One actor would be
tied down on an electric chair, and the volunteers would be put into a different room. The other actor
who would dress as a doctor instructed the volunteers to say some words to the actor that is tied.
When the actor got the answer wrong, he gets shocked with increasing voltages. Milgram wanted to
see if people/ volunteers would trust and listen to a high authority professional person even if it
meant to harm a person. About 65% of the people listened and followed directions to the high
authorized person. In chapter 8, Elizabeth researched about human memory and imagination. Loftus
says that people who have had horrific memories about the past such as child abuse, rape or
anything that could affect a person's life can play a key role to their past, present and future
decisions because there will be things where something may trigger the person leading them to that

The Fifth Season Sparknotes
Okay, so this is how this is going to work... The deep book review will be split into different
sections, one where I will dump a bunch of information about the storyline on the reader, another
where I will rant about what makes this book deep but not good, and, finally, another about the
author. The footnotes will be my way of interjecting Laszlo–esque commentary on what would
normally be a more formal piece of writing without drastically altering the formality of the review.
Throughout the book, The Fifth Season changes from Syenite to Damaya to, finally, a character
referred to as 'you' (as you might expect, all chapters written from you's perspective are written in
second person). As the book moves on, switching from character to character, similarities between
Syenite and Damaya start to appear, until, chapter seventeen, when it is revealed Damaya is just a
young Syenite. Towards the end, Syenite is revealed to be you (your name is Essun). So all along,

The Fifth Season is definitely interesting, however, I sort of enjoyed reading it because of its'
complexity, and, as it is part of a series, it has a sequel. This sequel gives you a glimpse into what is

Earth lost his favorite child, so, in an attempt to appease Father Earth, some of the stone eaters
decided they should try and get his favorite child, the moon back. So, the book ends with Essun
getting ready to catch the moon. Pure awesomeness aside, I feel like I liked it better when things
were confusing. The second book, The Obelisk Gate, doesn't contain as many of the storyline
scrambling mind–blowing revelations that made the first one so interesting, so it has to rely mostly
on storyline. This means it is a bit more enjoyable to read, but it doesn't contain any of the things

How Groups Can Develop And Function Systemically
Introduction
At first glance, one would assume that this book would be like other books that were designed to
repair work group issues either overly opinionated or disassociated with real world relevance's.
Creating effective teams was anything like the books I have read in the past, as a matter of fact, the
first six chapters was awe–inspiring and thought–provoking. The author gracefully transitions each
chapter beautiful, Chapter one set the tone for the other chapters by asking "Why Groups"; the
methodology behind that forced the readers to think outside of the boxes not to mention it smoothly
transition to five other supportive Chapters. Chapter two described different ways wherein larger
organization could potentially aid groups to become more successful, whereas Chapter three
discusses how groups can develop and function systemically, while Chapter four visibly frameworks
the characteristics of productive teams; Chapter five and six diplomatically define the characteristics
of effective members and effective leaders, respectively.
Wheelan made it a point to transition each chapter effortlessly, whereas other authors would had
been reserved Wheelan didn't hold back any she provided intuitive information that depicted both
positive outcomes and negative outcomes. After reading through chapter six, I have to be honest
there were many intriguing information presented throughout the editorial however; from what I
have read I personally feel the topic that conversed

Essay on Structure Of The Lost Honour O
Heinrich Böll uses his novel, The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum, to attack modern journalistic
ethics as well as the values of contemporary Germany. The structure of this novel is important to
conveying his message. He uses a police report format, differences in chapter lengths, narrator or
author intervention, a subtitle, and the extensive use of the 'puddle' metaphor. All these things
contribute towards the message in the text.
The puddle metaphor is the most significant device used in the structure of the novel. The 'puddle';
means the collective information from all the sources. The narrator speaks of the information as
'fluid' and he also talks of the 'conduction' of the information coming from these different sources.

Around this time is the celebratory period of Carnival. However there is no hint of any celebratory
moods in the tone. It is all extremely formal. It can be said that the format of this book is related to
how Katharina Blum herself lives her life. The possible reason that this story is set in this police
report format is that Heinrich Böll wants the reader to know the facts since all the facts come
together in the end. The story uses flashbacks so the reader knows what is happening somewhere
else at the same time. It could be said that the reader is finding out all this information in the same
order as the police investigation. It seems that the information is scattered and, just like the police,
the reader has to try and piece together the puzzle. However, this is all done for the reader in the
end. This is another example of how the 'puddle' metaphor is used. The information scattered means
that the channel is always changing course.
The tone of this story, and even the text itself says that this is a police report, but the use of short and
long chapters could possibly suggest something different. In the short chapters there are little 'bursts'
of action, whilst in the longer chapters it goes into far more detail. This is like a newspaper in a way,
the headlines with the 'bursts' of action, and the pages the story is continued on go into more detail,
however, this reasoning is probably incorrect since the author is trying

John Hubner 's Last Chance
John Hubner's Last Chance in Texas focuses on the boys and girls who go to Giddings State School
to establish that they aren't just criminals. The story doesn't just focus on the students' lives, but
students who are trying to reform by transitioning from an unstable environment to a stable one.
Giddings State School has two sections based on gender roles that demonstrate the students properly
transitioning into a citizen. In the first section of the book, boys are not supposed to express their
feelings because its culture is frowned upon, so it takes longer for boys to relive and move forward
in their recovery. In the second part of the book, it's shorter because girls are socially acceptable so it
takes less time to display emotions. In the beginning of chapter 9, it starts out with the Parents of
Murdered Children go to Giddings State School to discuss how they felt anger toward the students
attending school. The book also demonstrates how the Nesbits to the facility to speak to the girls
about Katy which led the girls into understanding that when there's an effect theirs always an
outcome. In Hubners book chapter 9, "Meeting Katy" is the most significant chapter of part II
because it discusses not just the students' lives, but discuss outside point of view toward the inmates
and how the girls achieve an understanding with emotions.

1. How does Gene describe the school when he visits it as an adult?
He described it as, "looking oddly newer than it had fifteen years before". Saying it seemed more
sedate then he remembered, more perpendicular and strait–laced, the windows seemingly more
narrow and shinier woodwork, seeming as though a coat of varnish had covered everything for
preservation. (Chapter 1, page 1)
What is this an example of? This is an example of imagery.
Why? Gene is describing the school in depth and immense detail, almost taking you to the school as
you read.

Gene began to feel lesser because he was not man enough to admit the same.
3. Was jouncing the limb a planned, conscious decision on Gene's part or an impulsive act? I believe
that Gene jouncing the limb was an impulsive act. As he stepped forward, his knees bent, causing
him to jounce the limb accidentally.
Examine the dialogue and events that occurred just before the fall: Finny climbed up the old tree,
Gene right behind. Just before the fall, Finny asked Gene to jump with him, side–by–side. He said,
"Come out a little way, and then we'll jump side–by–side." As Gene stepped forward, the branch
jounced, and Finny fell. (Chapter 4, pages 51–52.)
4. What does Gene say to Finny about sports? That he is trying to be an assistant crew manager.
(Chapter 6, page 76.)
What does Finny have to say about it? He asks him, "What do you want to manage a crew for? What
do you want to manage for? What's that got to do with sports?" He then goes on to say, "Listen, pal,
if I can't play sports, you're going to play them for me." (Chapter 6, pages 76–77.)

Summary Of ' Salinger 's ' My Strengths '
Chapter 1 Left Side Journal My strengths in doing this journal is that I really analyzed every
sentence and I jotted down in question form every change I saw in Salinger's style of writing and the
story's plot in general. I feel that my questions are also a strength in which I cover some broad
aspects and also story specific questions. At this point, I struggled with writing a literary analysis
about how this chapter relates to my life or life because it is only the first chapter and there are still
many confusing points that are left unanswered. In the next text, I was more mindful of Holden's
character development and sees how he grows as a person or try to find out more about his
personality because he did not give a good impression from the first line of the book. I don't feel
sympathetic for Holden when he says he got kicked out of school. I don't feel this way because he
seems like he doesn't even care and what's the point of feeling sympathetic for someone if they don't
even care about their own problems? From class discussion, I learned that he is in some type of
psych ward and this might explain why he transitions from subject to subject randomly because
maybe he has some type of mental illness. Chapter 1 Right Side Journal Questions What impression
does he give us from the first few lines of the book? Through the brief mentioning of his parents,
what can we infer about his relationship with them? What kind of relationship does Holden have

She struggles in school, fights with her parents, and most importantly, doesn't open up to anyone
about her feelings. The protagonist doesn't know how to express her feelings to others, so she

expressing feelings makes it worse and that things are better left unsaid. The story stated, "It is

Chapter 9 Of The Great Gatsby
The setting in the last chapter is unchanged from the start of the novel, which suggests that Alex's
persona has behaved the same way. Even as Alex moves from place to place, the settings match up.
At the beginning of chapter seven of part three, Alex is once again sitting in the Korova Milkbar
with three other friends. At this point, the story seems to come full circle and creates a sense of Déjà
vu since the setting of the first page was the same place. Burgess begins to incorporate a sense of
change in the last chapter when Alex explains "the heighth of fashion, which in those days was these

Alex and his droogs "were sitting in the Korova Milkbar making up [their] rassoodocks what to do

oldest one in the group (##). In the first chapter, as Alex and his droogs are making their way
through the town, they run into an old man carrying books. They decide to beat the man and rob him
and Alex takes part in the beating (9). In the last chapter a similar event occurs in which the group
meets a man on the street. But this time Alex does not take part in the beating stating, "more and
more these days I had just been giving the orders and standing back to viddy them being carried out"
(202). This statement suggest that Alex has undergone some sort of change, however shallow it may
be, because previously Alex would not have been able to resist getting in on the action. In both
chapters, the friends move on to the Duke of New York bar and purchase drinks for the same three
ladies. In contrast to the first chapter, older Alex hesitates to give away his money to them because
"these last days...there had come into his gulliver a like desire to keep all [his] pretty polly to

Chapter Summary Of Opening Skinner's Box
In chapter 1, Opening Skinner's Box, Slater talks about a psychologist named B. F. Skinner. Skinner
shows us how easily operant conditioning can be done. He believed that you have a better outcome
if you study observable behavior instead of studying mental events. Skinner's work focused on
operant conditioning. People and animals were the subjects of his studies. They were subjected to
gears or buttons and scheduled reinforcement. The experiment in this chapter deals with a box of
rats he receives from one of his colleagues. He wanted to see if he could use those rats to see if he

learn to press a lever if they were rewarded with food. The box had a lever on the side that the rats
would eventually find and accidentally knock or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once it was knocked a pellets immediately came into the box. Each time the rats would knock the
lever pellets would come down. The rats learned quickly. After Skinner learned that the rats could be
trained using operant conditioning, he decided to further his experiment. He removed the pellets as a
reinforced and found that the rats would eventually stop pressing the lever. He also decided to
reward the rats intermittently. He found that irregularly rewarded behavior was the hardest to
eradicate. He was then able to explain why we do dumb things even when we are not consistently
rewarded. Skinner's experiments were amazing and disturbing at the same time. His discoveries
were significant but they also illuminated human stupidity. It's amazing how relevant operant
conditioning is to this day. I find it amazing how easy it is to condition or train someone to do
something you want them

Written in hieroglyphics dating about 3100 B.C.E. Egyptian records have helped archaeologists gain
dependable knowledge into their religion. The Ancient Egyptians saw the sun, earth, river, and sun

humans; as a result they often combined human and animal forms. The sun was the highest god, and

  • 1. The Room The Room I was sleeping soundly in my new house. My mother and I recently moved out from our old house after my parents got divorced. I loved our old house. I lived in there ever since I could remember. All the memories still so clear. Like, under the big oak tree in our front yard where my first dog named Daisy is buried. Or the treehouse in the backyard where I used to play with my dolls, and read my favorite childhood book "Red light, green light." Which is also of the game me and my friends down the road used to play on the paved driveway in my front yard that my handprint is molded in. But anyway, back to the story. I was in my room sleeping soundly when all of the sudden I heard a big crash downstairs. My eyelids popped open, I sat up quickly and spun my head both ways. The room was black as pitch. The only light was the reflection of the moonlight shining through the the window. I lifted my blanket and moved my legs off of the bed. I rubbed my eyes with my hands as I stood up. It was still pitch black. Now I have only been in this house for 3 days, but I still know my way around the place. I walked in a straight path feeling around for the light switch. After I found it, I flicked the switch and the lights came on with a quiet buzzing noise. I spun the doorknob and gave the door a little push, but the door still seemed to creak loudly. I looked ahead of me. The hallway I was standing in was a lot brighter then my room had been because the window was a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He may act appropriately when interacting with his classmates, but his behavior changes when working on homework and in class assignments. As an assistant teacher, my duty is to help him engage in the material and assist him when he is struggling. When asked to reread passages because he cannot answer the question or returning assignments with incorrect responses, he becomes upset which turns to anger. The first phase is sadness; he becomes upset and asks why his choice isn't correct. After a brief discussion, I acknowledge his efforts and ask him to reread the question and go back into the passage to find the answer. At this point in time, Giovanni becomes noncompliant and refuses to do any work. He draws all over his paper, tears it apart and becomes withdrawn and extremely frustrated. Rebecca Haidt's Women, Work And Clothing Rebecca Haidt's Women, work and clothing in eighteenth–century Spain is a nine chapter book that shows and explains the history of how clothing was able to hit all corners of Spanish society of the 18th century. She had to restrict to it these two areas because in her own words, "... • 7. Impact On Honor Society When I received a letter from Phi Theta Kappa a year or so ago, I was unaware of the impact joining the organization would have on my personal life. From my engagement with Phi Theta Kappa, I can now say that I have experienced the profound impact such a distinction can have on a student's intellectual and professional development throughout their college careers. Many would agree that a student's direct involvement with honors programs and honor societies is beneficial, but rarely is it addressed that these student–based organizations have just as big of an impact on their surrounding communities. By recognizing that these impacts happen because honor societies foster and encourage a specific set of values within an activity system, we are closer to being able to analyze such organizations as effective discourse communities. Following are six secondary sources I have gathered to complement my research. Much of them have to do with analyzing the impact honor societies have in general, ... Although biased, Jones does have the credibility needed to comment about the benefits and successes of the honor societies at Texas A&M University. As with other articles, Jones' piece can benefit my project because he provides evidence that honor societies have a collective benefit. Not only do they develop and foster values of scholarship and excellence within directly affiliated community members, but they also benefit their surrounding communities. In Jones' case the surrounding community being benefited was Texas A&M University itself. Perhaps, for my research, that is also the case. • 11. Summary Of The Opening Chapter Of Dipper's Mistake Dipper was tired, again. He always stayed up way too late with his computer open on his lap all night. He'd been trying to write again but the only thing that seemed to give him any inspiration was one kind stranger that he fortunately got to see every day. Dipper had no idea where he came from, in fact, no one did. All he ever heard about him was that he was an eccentric business owner that lived alone out in the woods. Most of the townsfolk were terrified of what wanders through there, so they figured that he wanted to be left alone. Which is obviously not the case, thought Dipper. Not with how much he pays attention to me. It wasn't as if Dipper minded the looks and kind words he received from the man, he liked it very much, actually. He ... He had endured enough bullying to last a lifetime, and he didn't feel like entertaining a new asshole at his nice new job. But he was surprised to learn that Bill had no negative intentions, and he turned out to be quite sweet. The first flower he had purchased was a violet rose. Violet roses represent an immediate love; love at first sight, which Dipper had smiled at. Surely Bill knew nothing of flower meanings, and while he was checking out, he had planned to give a little quip on the meaning, when Bill had stopped him. "That's alright, I know what it means." he had smiled lightly, and softly taken the flower from the blushing boys' hands, only to snip the stem with the nearby clippers, and reached forward to put it behind Dipper's ear. Which, at this point, had turned a deep red along with his face. Bill had looked at him and took his hand. He bowed slightly to place a soft kiss to it, then looked up at him with a grin. "I'll see you then. Pine Tree." he purred as he walked off and out of the store. Dipper had been awestruck and amazed at the kindness of the man. For the rest of the day, he couldn't stop fiddling with the flower tucked oh so gently behind his ear, and every time someone mentioned it being cute or nice, he couldn't help but ... It becomes more worrying as Indigo's revenue is declining as a result being unable to increase the amount of profit. They are still unable to cut expenses down enough to maintain a positive net income. Ratios The 8 ratios that are best used to evaluate indigo are current ratio, debt ratio, rate of return on owner's equity, price earnings, inventory turnover, interest coverage ratio, dividend payout ratio, and accounts receivables collection period. Current Ratio Current ratio indicates a company's ability to pay off short term liabilities. Starting at 2012, the current ratio of Indigo was 1.98, very close to the desired ratio of 2. However since 2015, the current ratio has declined by 0.09 to 1.89. This shows the company is not in as stable of a financial standpoint as 2012, due to a lower ability to pay off short term liabilities. However, when compared to the industrial and sector averages, 1.78 and 1.77 respectively, Indigo actually comes out as above average. This suggests that despite, a lowered ability to return short term liabilities, Indigo is still very capable at returning short term liabilities as a result of the nature of the industry and ... As an undergraduate, pledging Theta at Phi chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta has provided me with many opportunities to contribute to my community, especially through our philanthropy work for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). For 25 years, Kappa Alpha Theta and CASA have shared a common belief that every abused or neglected child should be loved, have a safe home, and have the opportunities to succeed. A CASA provides a voice for children during the juvenile court system. Personal Narrative: My Decision To Close The Tualatin Haggen I am incredibly disappointed in the decision to close the Tualatin Haggen which has been a part of the Tualatin community for many years. Our Haggen has been around for my entire life and I always feel at home when I go there; a feeling I believe I share with many of its other customers. I'm friends with many of the employees and am incredibly saddened to hear that almost all of them will have no place to work after the store closes. The people who work there are some of the kindest and hardest working people I have ever met and deserve to have a feeling of security knowing where their next paycheck is coming from. There will be an empty grocery store in the heart of our town causing our economy to suffer drastically. If the lease was up, a new company could buy the location and add a new store to our community, but, instead, the building will now sit there until the lease is up. Also, it is unfair to refuse to restock the store. It is unfair to the employees who might be out of a job weeks before you told them they would. I think that Jane could've stopped answering the questions before, but thankfully she decided to open up instead. Why is this therapy the best therapy for the disorder? This is the best therapy for depression because patients need to feel like they are safe and able to talk about their problems. In a closed environment, they will probably feel more comfortable opening up about what is on their mind. I think a lot of people with depression believe they are insignificant, or that no one cares about them, but having a person they can always rely on and talk to will definitely change their minds about that. Their therapist will also be able to give them advice about their situations, so they don't stay in their bad situations. With any other type of therapy, the patient would not have these types of opportunities to talk. How do you feel this type of therapy could be improved or more effective? I think this therapy could be more effective if the therapist already knew why they were talking to the patient. Perhaps they could have the patient fill out a questionnaire so the therapist has a better idea of what is going on in their lives. I think it would also be helpful if the therapist got to know the patient before they asked them about their problems. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. The Opening Chapter Of Fahrenheit 451 The significance of the opening chapter or intro was to set up a tone and style of the author. The first chapter shows how the story may not be as happy and calm as it may seem. It talks about how cruel the world is and how houses are being burned down because of having books in your home. It was also made to attract the attention of the reader showing that this is different from a fairy tale . This also shows the authors style of imagery because Ray Bradbury is constantly giving extra details making the story a paradox itself because he writes in a way where the story is written as if someone was describing their dream, except the story is opposite from a dream. Consider the following key points as well as how to best communicate the content that is necessary for the requested presentation. Please With Threes A lesson I teach early in my presentation skills workshops, and that I learned in school and in Toastmasters clubs, is to "please with threes". Otherwise called the rule of threes, this means that you create a presentation using a speech structure that consists of three main components: an opening, a body, and a closing. Doctors Joseph and Jo Blase, a husband and wife duo who both teach educational leadership at the University of Georgia, author Handbook of Instructional Leadership: How Really Good Principals Promote Teaching and Learning; thereby, adding to an already expansive collection of scholarly articles coauthored by them on the subject of educational leadership. In this book, the Blases accomplish two tasks: outlining how principals should apply instructional leadership skills while performing their job, and how principals should maintain positive relationships with their teachers while still effectively leading. To accomplish these tasks, the authors divide up the book into brief chapters that each deal with either an attribute of instructional leadership or a method for maintaining positive principal–teacher relations. As the authors themselves state, the book effectively examines "what successful instructional leaders do to enhance teaching and learning and the effects that their behaviors have on teacher's performance and well–being" (xiii). To organize their research, the Blases first divide their information into the broad categories of "Part I: The Art of Science of Instructional Leadership" and "Part II: How Supervisor's Behaviors– Positive and Negative– Affect Teachers." The deep book review will be split into different sections, one where I will dump a bunch of information about the storyline on the reader, another where I will rant about what makes this book deep but not good, and, finally, another about the author. Throughout the book, The Fifth Season changes from Syenite to Damaya to, finally, a character referred to as 'you' (as you might expect, all chapters written from you's perspective are written in second person). As the book moves on, switching from character to character, similarities between Syenite and Damaya start to appear, until, chapter seventeen, when it is revealed Damaya is just a young Syenite. How Groups Can Develop And Function Systemically Introduction At first glance, one would assume that this book would be like other books that were designed to repair work group issues either overly opinionated or disassociated with real world relevance's. Creating effective teams was anything like the books I have read in the past, as a matter of fact, the first six chapters was awe–inspiring and thought–provoking. Chapter two described different ways wherein larger organization could potentially aid groups to become more successful, whereas Chapter three discusses how groups can develop and function systemically, while Chapter four visibly frameworks the characteristics of productive teams; Chapter five and six diplomatically define the characteristics of effective members and effective leaders, respectively. The structure of this novel is important to conveying his message. It can be said that the format of this book is related to how Katharina Blum herself lives her life. The possible reason that this story is set in this police report format is that Heinrich Böll wants the reader to know the facts since all the facts come together in the end. The story uses flashbacks so the reader knows what is happening somewhere else at the same time. It could be said that the reader is finding out all this information in the same order as the police investigation. It seems that the information is scattered and, just like the police, the reader has to try and piece together the puzzle. However, this is all done for the reader in the end. This is another example of how the 'puddle' metaphor is used. The information scattered means that the channel is always changing course. The tone of this story, and even the text itself says that this is a police report, but the use of short and long chapters could possibly suggest something different. In the short chapters there are little 'bursts' of action, whilst in the longer chapters it goes into far more detail. This is like a newspaper in a way, the headlines with the 'bursts' of action, and the pages the story is continued on go into more detail, however, this reasoning is probably incorrect since the author is trying ... He described it as, "looking oddly newer than it had fifteen years before". Saying it seemed more sedate then he remembered, more perpendicular and strait–laced, the windows seemingly more narrow and shinier woodwork, seeming as though a coat of varnish had covered everything for preservation. (Chapter 1, page 1) What is this an example of? This is an example of imagery. Why? Gene is describing the school in depth and immense detail, almost taking you to the school as you read. 2. I believe that Gene jouncing the limb was an impulsive act. As he stepped forward, his knees bent, causing him to jounce the limb accidentally. Examine the dialogue and events that occurred just before the fall: Finny climbed up the old tree, Gene right behind. Just before the fall, Finny asked Gene to jump with him, side–by–side. He said, "Come out a little way, and then we'll jump side–by–side." As Gene stepped forward, the branch jounced, and Finny fell. (Chapter 4, pages 51–52.) 4. What does Gene say to Finny about sports? That he is trying to be an assistant crew manager. (Chapter 6, page 76.) What does Finny have to say about it? He asks him, "What do you want to manage a crew for? What do you want to manage for? What's that got to do with sports?" He then goes on to say, "Listen, pal, if I can't play sports, you're going to play them for me." (Chapter 6, pages 76–77.)

Summary Of ' Salinger 's ' My Strengths ' Chapter 1 Left Side Journal My strengths in doing this journal is that I really analyzed every sentence and I jotted down in question form every change I saw in Salinger's style of writing and the story's plot in general. I feel that my questions are also a strength in which I cover some broad aspects and also story specific questions. At this point, I struggled with writing a literary analysis about how this chapter relates to my life or life because it is only the first chapter and there are still many confusing points that are left unanswered. In the next text, I was more mindful of Holden's character development and sees how he grows as a person or try to find out more about his personality because he did not give a good impression from the first line of the book. I don't feel sympathetic for Holden when he says he got kicked out of school. I don't feel this way because he seems like he doesn't even care and what's the point of feeling sympathetic for someone if they don't even care about their own problems? From class discussion, I learned that he is in some type of psych ward and this might explain why he transitions from subject to subject randomly because maybe he has some type of mental illness. Even as Alex moves from place to place, the settings match up. At the beginning of chapter seven of part three, Alex is once again sitting in the Korova Milkbar with three other friends. At this point, the story seems to come full circle and creates a sense of Déjà vu since the setting of the first page was the same place. Burgess begins to incorporate a sense of change in the last chapter when Alex explains "the heighth of fashion, which in those days was these very wide trousers and a very loose black shiny leather like jerkin over an open–necked shirt with a scarf tucked in" (Burgess 201). Skinner shows us how easily operant conditioning can be done. He believed that you have a better outcome if you study observable behavior instead of studying mental events. Skinner's work focused on operant conditioning. People and animals were the subjects of his studies. They were subjected to gears or buttons and scheduled reinforcement. The experiment in this chapter deals with a box of rats he receives from one of his colleagues. He wanted to see if he could use those rats to see if he could train them using positive reinforcement. He found that irregularly rewarded behavior was the hardest to eradicate. He was then able to explain why we do dumb things even when we are not consistently rewarded.
