Personality and Values
Summary:
Personality is the sum total of ways in which an individual reacts to and interacts with others is called
personality of a person. When we talk about the personality we don’t means a person has charm, a
positive towards life or a smiling face. It is all about the ways of interaction and reaction in any situation.
It is the combination of both hereditary and environmental factors.
Myers-Briggs type indicator (MBTI) is the most widely used personality assessment instrument in the
world. Personality is assessed by asking 100 questions about the reaction in some particular situations.
Basically it is a test that taps four characteristics and classifies people into 1-16 personality types. On the
result individuals are classified in the following categories:
 Extraverted (E) they are outgoing and sociable versus Introverted (I) they are quite and shy.
 Sensing (S) they are perfect and ordered verses Intuitive (N) they are unconscious.
 Thinking (T) they use reasons and logics versus feelings (F) they are emotional and have values.
 Judging (J) they preferred to be structured and ordered verses Perceiving (P) they are flexible.
Big five personality model is a personality assessment model that taps five basic dimensions encompass
most of the significance variation in human personality. These dimensions are as follows:
 Extraversion is a personality dimension describing someone who is sociable and assertive.
 Agreeableness is a personality dimension that describes someone who is good natured and trusting.
 Conscientiousness is personality dimension it describes someone who is responsible and organized.
 Emotional stability is a personality dimension that describes someone as calm, secure and nervous.
 Openness to experience is a personality dimension that describes someone as sensitive and curiosity.
