Wesley Johnsona aUniversity of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg, MS, USA; bUniversity of Alabama at Birmingham, Birmingham, AL, USA (Received 6 February 2013; accepted 8 June 2013) Since the United States began using incarceration as its cornerstone of punishment for those who transgress the law, this method of discipline has been fraught with problems. One of the most ubiquitous problems found within correctional institutions are the conditions inmates are forced to live in particularly, when penal facilities are overcrowded. These conditions have led to extensive litigation, compelling the judicial system to change. Although overall conditions have improved, a perpetually increasing inmate population continues to plague correctional systems as costs continue to rise. As state budgets have become strained during the economic downturns, many states’ officials view less punitive measures as possible solutions to the excessive costs of administering punishment and overcrowded inmate populations. Due to facility overcrowding, several states have actually been placed under federal court order to reduce their inmate population in order to protect inmates’ constitutional rights. Although this has resulted in a change of policies to help alleviate prison overcrowding, there is little evidence these are anything more than short-term fixes to a problem with no end in sight. The concept of punishment is typically connected to or associated with the law, and usually follows as a consequence of non-compliance with those directives. As such, the means by which a society administers punishment is often thoroughly scrutinized to insure fairness and efficiency in obtaining justice. Incarceration has been the dominant form of punishment in American society for serious crimes (Ross, 2010; Verro, 2010). In fact, some would argue that incarceration has been overused to such a degree that it constitutes an inefficient use of resources. In recent years, many states have become fiscally strained as the practice of mass incarceration has come under increased criticism (Ekland-Olson, Barrick, & Cohen, 1983; Harris, 1991; Lucken, 2011; Nagel 1977). Clinical psychology has had to develop new ways to treat these patients as previous strategies were not as beneficial as they could be. Over the last 50 years there has been a dramatic rise in divorce; the highest it has ever been in the U.S. Divorce affects all types of marriages, whether it a heterosexual couples, blended couples, and even homosexual couples. “This marks a shift away from the ideal of the companion marriage popularized in the early 1920’s to self-aspiration, enhanced freedom, and egalitarian relationships” (Castelloe, 2011). Since the 1960’s the rate of divorce and separation has risen because of the fact that “society has become more inclusive and women more financially independent, resulting in increased tension in marriages between individualization and what psychoanalyst Erik Erickson described as “generativity,” a concern for the welfare of others” (Castelloe, 2011). 3 Population Most Affected Not one race, ethnicity, culture. High Conflict Financially Unstable Children of Divorce Divorce is not exactly privy to one specific culture or ethnicity; many people of all races become separated or divorced. Since 1970, the rate of divorce, at 72%, has declined to 59% (Friedman, n.d.). Jeffrey Drew conducted a study in 2009 on couples who argued about finances. He concluded that couples who argued about finances more than once a week were more than 30% likely to get divorced than couples who argue about it only a few times a month. “According to Drew, couples who disagree about money less than once per month run a 30-40% increase in the risk of divorce” (Divorce Source, 1996). The rate of divorce ultimately increases as the arguments become more often, several times a week, daily; the risk increases 125% to 160% (Divorce Source, 1996). Program code examples (known also as worked examples) play a crucial role in learning how to program. Instructors use examples extensively to demonstrate the semantics of the programming language being taught and to highlight the fundamental coding patterns. Programming textbooks allocate considerable space to present and explain code examples. To make the process of studying code examples more interactive, CS education researchers developed a range of tools to engage students in the study of code examples. These tools include codecasts (codemotion,codecast,elicasts), interactive example explorers (WebEx, PCEX), and tutoring systems (DeepTutor). An important component in all types of worked examples is code explanations associated with specific code lines or code chunks of an example. The explanations connect examples with general programming knowledge explaining the role and function of code fragments or their behavior. In textbooks, these explanations are usually presented as comments in the code or as explanations on the margins. The example explorer tools allow students to examine these explanations interactively. Tutoring systems, which engage students in explaining the code, use these model explanations to check student responses and provide scaffolding. In all these cases, to make a worked example re-usable beyond its presentation in a lecture, the explanations have to be authored by instructors or domain experts i.e., produced and integrated into a specific system. As the experience of the last 10 years demonstrated, these explanations are hard to obtain. Those already collected are usually “locked” in a specific example-focused system and can’t be reused. The purpose of this working group is to support broader re-used of worked examples augmented with explanations. Our current plan is to develop а standard approach to represent explained examples. This approach will enable an example created for any of the existing systems to be explored in a standard format and imported into any other example-focused system. We plan to follow a successful experience of the PEML working group focused on re-using programming exercises.

I need to have by Tuesday around 11:00 a.m. Central Time Scenario You have been asked to be the project manager for the development of an information technology (IT) project. The system to be developed will allow a large company to coordinate and maintain records of the professional development of its employees. The company has over 30,000 employees who are located in four sites: Florida, Colorado, Illinois, and Texas. The system needs to allow employees to locate and schedule professional development activities that are relevant to their positions. Sophisticated search capabilities are required, and the ability to add scheduled events to the employees’ calendars is desired. The system needs to support social networking to allow employees to determine who is attending conferences and events. This will promote fostering relationships and ensure coverage of conferences that are considered of high importance. Once an activity has been completed, employees will use the system to submit the documentation. The system should support notifications to management personnel whenever their direct reports have submitted documentation. The system should also notify employees if their deadline to complete professional- development requirements is approaching and is not yet satisfied. There are several types of architectural views. For the given scenario, develop 2 architectural views. There must be enough detail for the design to be handed off to an implementation team.
