6. Skimming
Skimming is a reading technique that enables you to:
1- Read more quickly
2- Decide if the text is interesting and whether you should read it in
more detail.
3- When you use the skimming technique, you don’t need to read the
whole text word for word. You should use as many clues as possible to
give you some background information. There might be pictures
related to the topic or an eye catching title.
4- Look for keywords while thinking about any clues you’ve found
about the subject.
8. Scanning
1- You can use the scanning technique to search for specific pieces of
information like looking up a phone number, reading through small
newspaper adds, browsing television scheduals, timetables, lists,
catalogues or web pages.
2- Scanning is also useful when you don’t have time to read every
word. This comes in handy during exams when time is limited.
