2. BBC
• Due to our documentary being shown on
BBC3, we will therefore broadcast our radio
trailer on a BBC radio station. However,
research must be done to determine which
BBC radio station to use.
3. BBC Radio 1
• Main target audience age is 15-29
years.
• Specialises in modern and popular
music and chart hits throughout the
day.
• Also plays other genres of music after
7pm, including electronic music, indie,
and rock, as well as interviews.
Why should we use this radio channel?
Many young people listen to this radio channel and it is based
mostly on the interests of young people. Therefore, as our target
audience is also young people, this would be an appropriate radio
station to use.
4. BBC Radio 2
• Is the most popular radio station in the
UK
• 82% of listeners are over 35.
• Plays music as well as broadcasters
discussing topics.
• Uses a large number of different
presenters who make the radio
programme interesting.
Why should we use this radio channel?
This radio station is the most popular channel in the UK and
therefore if our radio trailer appeared on it, it would be
heard by a lot of people, as well as issues such as feminism
sometimes being discussed, therefore may interest those
who are interested in this. However, these people may not
necessarily be our target audience and therefore it wouldn’t
be appropriate to broadcast on this channel as it may not
interest those listening as much.
5. BBC Radio 3
Why should we use this radio channel?
Although this radio station would allow us to reach many
different cultures, this radio station may not appeal
specifically to our target audience’s age range or interests,
therefore may not be an appropriate station to use.
• Centres around classical music, opera,
jazz, world music, drama, culture and
the arts.
• It also is the world’s most significant
commissioner of new music.
• Through it’s New Generation Arts
scheme, it promotes young people of
all generations.
6. Decisions on Radio Channel
After researching into different radio stations
that we could use to broadcast our radio trailer,
we have decided to use BBC Radio 1, as many
young people listen to this and so would be a
direct link to our target audience, who may be
interested in our topic.
7. BBC Radio 4
Why should we use this radio channel?
Although this radio station focuses on important issues (such
as meninism and feminism) and therefore our topic would fit
in well in this respect, there would be a limited number of our
target audience listening, and therefore it would be less
appropriate for this to be shown in the documentary.
Broadcasts a range of spoken word
programmes, such as the news,
drama, comedy, science and history.
It is the second most popular
domestic radio station in the UK.
Also plays some popular and classical
music and plays a limited amount of
sports reviews.
