2. The film-Target audience
(Demo/psychographics)
• Our target audience is young adults aged 15+. We have
decided that our certificate will be 15.
• We have chosen the certificate to be a 15 because there are
some scenes that are quite violent and if we were to continue
this film, the violence would rise. so therefore it won’t be
appropriate for children.
• We don’t want our thriller sequence to cause any
confusion, because we would expect the audience to have an
insight about thriller, but still have no knowledge about what
the film is going to be about.
• The sex of our audience will be male and female because
even though the protagonist is a female, the whole sub-genre
is crime and therefore males do prefer the gore and violence.

3. Existing films we have based our
thriller on
• Our chosen sub-genre is crime. We have decided
on this because in our media lessons we had been
studying a crime called ‘Se7en’ therefore knowing
more about it and taking some key ideas.
• ‘Se7en’ is the film we have mainly focused
on, which is where we got our idea of crime from.
4. Style and content that will appeal to
audience
• The style of our thriller is going to be complex but not confusing.
Because it’s a crime, we need it to have a lot going on, however
not to get confused with what the story is as some crime thrillers
sometimes make this happen, it just depends on the viewer and
whether they are used to working out films.
• Our thriller is going to need to have a dark atmosphere and a very
eerie feel to it to create the success of the film.
• In our thriller we will have contents that appeal to our target
audience. We will be having a dead body, blood and violence
which appeals to young adults because there is a huge range of
thrillers out today. There will be a girl in the opening sequence
which appeals both male and female. We want the sequence to
draw the audience in, which is why the dialogue is going to be
simple and short because we want lots of sound effects to show
more danger.
5. Enigma codes
• We have chosen to have a big mystery behind the
murderer because it creates questions in the
viewers mind as to who is producing these
murders.
• We have also chosen to have a mystery behind
the victim because this also creates questions as
to who the girl was, her lifestyle, her family etc.
However because it is the first murder that
happens in the film, it leaves even the murder a
mystery because more are going to occur, but
were not showing it as were only making a two
minute sequence.
6. Use Of Narrative
• A young girl and her mum walk back from a
party, when Wendy (her mum) walks off to find Lucia’s
phone, she leavesLuciavulnerable. Lucia is then
murdered. Wendy runs back to see Lucia dead. She
calls the police and D.C.I. SHAWturns up while
murderer (Michael) watches in shadows.
• We chose this narrative because it fits in with our sub-
genre and we felt it would be quite easy to replicate.
We felt the scene where the murder was standing
higher than everyone else (on the top of the
underpass)added to the atmosphere and mystery of it.
7. Use Of Mise-En-Scene
• Our films opening is set near a underpass at
night, as it is a eerie natural setting, and quite
a stereotypical setting.
• We will probably be usingmake-up, long
coats, trousers/skirts, waistcoat, leather
gloves, torches, keys, purse, handbags, badg
es and high heels.
8. Character Types
During our opening, character types that will be
used and that will be introduced, includes,
Hero
Elizabeth
Villain
Michael Princess
Lucia
Dispatcher
Wendy
9. Todorov’s Equilibrium
• We studied the stages of Todorov’s theory
of Equilibrium and placed the theory into
our opening.
• Equilibrium (Party) – Disequilibrium (Dead
Girl) – New Equilibrium (Police called +
Investigation)
10. Motivation
• Michael is an angry jealous ex, whom wants
revenge. Someone is trying to sabotage
Shaw’s investigation, and helps take the
suspicion away, placing it on Wendy.
• We brainstormed the killers motives and
came up with an ex-lover, this may be
overdone, but we felt it worked well.
