2. Background Information
• Genre – Drama
• Subgenre - Social realism
• Exploring domestic violence in young couple
• Characters – One male, one female
• Moral – Trying to make younger people aware
of domestic violence as usually people assume
it only applies to older/married couples.
• Non-narrative story, all a recollection of events
3. The whole film is a
RECOLLECTION of events there
is no clear beginning, middle,
end structure
5. Key Scene 1
(Recollection of events)
Lewis asks Imogen out and they begin seeing
each other
Mise en scene
We need to highlight the fact that they’re very
happy to have a bigger impact when the truth
is revealed later
6. Key Scene 2
(Recollection of events)
Next few frames and screens we build on the
happiness but include a few hints that everything
may not be as it seems
Middle shots, long shots during the first few scenes
let the audience know they’re just looking from
the outside as the film progresses the shots will
become more up close and personal
7. Key Scene 3
last few shots and frames will slowly build up on
how abusive the relationship has become and
shows the reality of the domestic abuse.
The voice over will still be narrating in a positive
light on the relationship to show the audience
how naïve Imogen is
We will be using close-ups a lot during these last
few frames to emphasise the brutality of what
is going on during the relationship
8. Key Features
• Voiceover
• Contrasting Images as to what the voice is
saying
• Twist at the end when audience see the
violence in contrast to what the girl is saying
9. Filming
We are going to film in colour however we
will be expirimenting with black and white
effect after we have filmed as we feel it may
make it more obvious that it is a recollection
of events rather than the present, it will also
add a “sad” affect to the film
10. END SCENE
we'll have her sitting talking to a psychiatrist
showing her in the present time , this will only
be a few shots because we don’t want to
focus on this
11. Selling Points
1. Why will the film be a hit?
We feel that our short film will be a success as it tackles a genre so many can
unfortunately relate with. Whether it be through going through domestic abuse
their selves, or somehow else feeling fear within a relationship, it is something we
feel can be relatable to many people.
2. Why did you chose this storyline?
We felt by choosing to create a short film fitting into the ‘social realism’ genre we
could create something fresh and original whilst keeping a strong storyline
throughout the film. The ‘social realism’ genre appealed to us more than any other
as basing our short film around an issue which unfortunately happens in day to day
life would appeal to a wide range of people and felt we could do this to the best of
our ability with the resources we have in order to create the film.
3. What makes it different/ stand out?
We hope our short film will be substantially different to others previously produced as it
tackles such a sad and controversial issue, something we hope to do well.
