2. The Artist
There's many different elements of a music video that are an
important part of its success
To start with, the artist who sings the song's popularity plays a very
big part as it will add to the excitement of anticipation of waiting to
see the music video.
The bigger the artist, the more attention the music video will attract
from critics, fans, and fellow artists in the industry.
Saying this, if the single and music video features any more artists
there will be even more attraction and success as there's another
group of fans and critics who will be wanting to see the music video.
The popularity of the artist goes hand in hand with the popularity of
the song. If the song went straight to number 1 then there will be a
bigger demand and a higher level of excitement for the music video,
rather than if it was sat at the bottom of the top 40.
3. Production and Narrative
The editing, production and quality of the video are all things that
would make a music video more interesting. If better transitions are
used with a higher quality camera and editing software, the video will
be more enticing and captivating to watch – making the video more
successful.
The creativity and narrative of the video also constitute a massive
part in the success of a music video. Watching a music video seems
pointless if there is no story behind it, it is very rare that a music video
is filled with a live performance today because artists and their
production companies are aware a narrative will attract more viewers.
The narrative should be strong and easy to understand, it should also
be slightly relatable so the audience enjoy it more, raising its
success. If a narrative tugs at the heart-strings or is exceptionally
striking or memorable, people will want to share it, raising the views.
This is what makes a video go viral, which leads me to one of the
most important factors in the success of a music video... promotion.
4. Promotion
Promotion plays a major part in the success of any
product, not just music videos. A music video can be
promoted in many ways, through magazine posters, word
of mouth, TV advertisements, TV appearances, interviews,
and performances, but one of the biggest promotion
platforms is online social media.
Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Websites and Youtube are
incredible platforms for artists to share their music videos
and build the excitement up for them before their release.
For example, Taylor swift released snippets and images
from her 'Bad Blood' video everyday before it came out,
and this made fans more and more excited, attracting and
enticing more and more people to watch her music video
before it even came out. Social media is also something
almost everyone has access to, making it the ultimate
platform for promotion.
5. These are all factors that constitute to the
success of a music video, whether its massively,
or just slightly, they all play a part in making one
successful.
