Production plan
1.
2.
3. o My work plan shows what tasks I am doing, the timescale of when I aim to complete
them and the milestones of when I do complete them. I have colour coded the three
units so that I can see easily what unit the task is part of and when I have completed
the whole unit. I have also coloured the timescale yellow so that I can clearly see what
I am suppose to do during that time, and I will add milestones as I go along to show
what work I have completed.
o I have chosen my launch date as 8th march because this is when I will have finished
filming and editing my film to the best of my ability in the given timescale from when
I first start.
o I have chosen to release it in march because it is after the winter holidays so most
people will be at home and back to work. There is also no seasonal or local events at
this time so people will be around to watch my film. Technically March is in Spring,
however it is the in between whether of rain and sun, so my film would like well to
this time of the year because this is the kind of whether that I will be filming in and I
would like it to be similar weather for when I release it.
4. Type What you will
use.
Why have you chosen this? How will you use it?
Equipment Canon 700D
camera
So that I can film my shots for my
film and it is a good quality camera
that I know how to use.
The majority of my shots will be still shots, so
I will be keeping the camera still and maybe
use a tripod for the shots that show the
scenery. For other shots, like close ups, I will
be holding the camera so that I can get as
close as I need to the subject.
Equipment Velbon Tripod So that the camera is still when filming
certain scenes. I want the majority of my
scenes to be still shots to help give off a
certain style of filming. Also it is good
quality tripod that I have used before.
I will use the tripod when filming more
or the establishing shots so that it
shows the settings better without the
camera being shaky.
Equipment Rode
Microphone
that attaches
to the camera.
So that I can record the one part of
dialogue I have in my film and it is also a
good quality microphone.
I will use the microphone by attaching it to
the camera so that the sound matched up
with the film.
Equipment 16GB Sandisk SD
Card
Because it holds all the footage I have
filmed and holds up to 16GB so I have
enough storage for all the shots.
I will use it to hold my footage from filming
until I put it on either a USB stick or my
computer for editing.
Equipment Advent SD Card
Reader
Because it is a good quality card reader
and I have used it before so I know it
works well.
I will upload my footage from filming onto
the computer ready for editing by using the
card reader.
Equipment 16GB Sandisk USB
Stick
It is good USB stick that will be able to
hold all my footage.
I will store my footage in case I don’t have
enough room on the SD card.
Equipment Computer Because it is a good quality computer
with enough storage on it to hold all my
footage and it also has all the software
that I need already downloaded on it.
I will use it to upload my footage and edit my
film together.
Equipment Headphones They are good quality headphones that I
have used before.
I will use them to listen to the backing tracks
and narration to my film when editing and
finishing my film.
Type What you will use. Why have you chosen
this?
How will you use it?
Equipment Recording equipment So that I can record my
own backing tracks for
each of my characters (if I
am able to) and the
narration that will be used
for over the top of the
footage.
If I am making my own backing tracks, I
will use the recording equipment to record
three different instruments separately for
each character and then another for when
they come together at the end. However,
if I don’t have enough time I will find
royalty free backing tracks that will suit
each character.
Software Adobe Premier Pro Because it is a reliable
software engine that I can
use for editing my film
together.
I will use it by doing all the necessary
things I need to do to make my film work
and maybe add other effects or audio to
make it a bit more interesting to watch.
Software Adobe Audition or Audacity Because I can use it to edit
my audio backing tracks
together.
Because I have never used it before, I will
follow a tutorial first before using it so that
I have done it right.
Software Adobe Photoshop Because I will need to
make a studio logo to go
with my film.
I have used Photoshop many times, so I
feel comfortable with the basic however
to make my logo more interesting, I may
follow a tutorial on how to do more
interesting things.
Software Adobe Indesign Have chosen this because I
have used it before so I
know how to use it.
I will use it to help me make my
permission slips for my actors and
actresses under the age of 18.
Assets Studio title logo So that the audience can
see who made the film.
I will use it to show that I made my film
and that the audience see it either before
or after my film plays.
Assets Musical score (Bensound) So that if I don’t manage to
make my own backing
tracks, I will find royalty
free backing tracks to use
instead.
I will listen to all the audios on the website
that I can use for free and with no
copyright problems, if I don’t have enough
time to make my own backing tracks.
5. o For my cast and crew I will need one actor to play the role
of ‘Luke’. I will be using my brother for this part because
he is around the same age as the character and he would
be easy to get hold of for filming any time. I also chose him
because the audience won’t know him and his character
would be portrayed better.
o I will also need two actresses to play the roles of ‘Mia’ and
‘Charlie’. For this, I have chosen my neighbour and my
friend, again because they are easy to get hold of and
again, because not many people in the audience would
know them so their characters would be portrayed better.
o I may need some crew members to help with holding
equipment or being extras in the background and I will
also need someone who can drive so that I can film in the
locations that are further away from where I live.
Actress for the
character of
‘Mia’.
Actor for the
character of ‘Luke’.
Actress for the
character of ‘Charlie’.
6. o I have made a permission slip because two of my actors
are under 18 so I will need their parents/guardians
permission for them to take part in making my film.
o To make my permission slip, I used Adobe InDesign as I
have used it before so I know how to use it, and it is an
easier way of making documents like this.
o In my permission slip I included details where the film
will be uploaded to online, and that I will need to take
their child to locations that I will be using for some
scenes. For this I also included tick boxes so that I can
easily see if they agree to different sections.
o At the end, I included a line for the parent/guardian to
sign and their child so that I have got both agreements.
7. Possible issues Actions if issues become apparent
Equipment becomes damaged/broken. I will use a backup camera/tripod that I will have near me when filming.
Depending on the location, they will either be in my car near to the location, or at
my house.
Wrong weather for filming I will film the scenes where the weather is appropriate and come back to the
others later, so I am still getting some work done. Or use an indoor set which can
also be used for the scene.
Actors/actresses become ill I will use backup actors/actresses that are free at that time that will still suit the
characters’ personalities.
Locations are unavailable/unable to get to I will have backup locations that are similar to the first location choice and have
a backup way of getting to the location (another car/person to drive) if needed.
Computer breaks/stops working whilst editing Use backup computer that will be in my classroom or at home when I'm editing.
Run out of storage on SD card I will empty the SD card before going out to film to ensure I have maximum
storage, but I will bring another SD card that will also be empty just in case I do
run out of storage.
8. o For my film, I won’t need to spend any money on props, costumes or renting sets
because all my characters costumes, I will be able to find clothes that I already have to
use, or borrow other people’s/my actors’ clothes so that they fit with the personality of
the characters.
o With props, I won’t need to buy any, because most of the objects I will be using are
objects that most people will have. For the scenes in the lab, I will use the test tubes
and science equipment that Is already there, with the permission of the teacher whose
room it is.
o I don’t need to rent any places because all my settings that I need are either at mine or
my friends house or in places that wouldn’t need to be rented (beaches, neighbourhood
roads).
o If when I come to filming I find that I need a prop that I will need to buy, I will buy it,
however these won’t cost much because they are small things.
o I will pay for the fuel to whomever is driving the cast, crew and I to the locations I am
filming.
9. What Who owns it? Legal impact Any impact on use?
Your filmed footage I own the footage I will be
filming.
I will copyright my footage so
that other people cannot use
it, unless they ask, for in the
future.
I have asked permission from my actors that are
under 18 and I will be making a permission slip
for them and their parents to sign so I have it on
paper that they are allowed. In the letter I will
include where I will be filming the particular
scenes the actor will be in and ask them to put
down their parents'’ number in case we need to
contact them if the is an emergency.
Studio title logo
sequence
I will design my own
studio title logo.
I will also copyright this so
that people cannot use it.
I will not need permission for this as I am
making it, so it wont have any impact on use.
Sound effects/musical
score
If I choose to record my
own backing tracks, the
audio will be mine.
However, I may find
royalty free music if I don’t
have time.
For my own audio, I won’t
need permission. For audio
that I find, I will use royalty
free music so I also don’t need
to ask permission to use it.
As it is royalty free music or my own audio, there
will not be any impact of the use.
10. What What is the impact on your film? Legal impact
Your certificate would you rate
your short film?
The rating for my film will be a PG so I
cannot include any gore, violence or
swearing.
The BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) are in
charge of the age certificates in the UK. We must adhere
to the certificates so that younger children, or people
that don’t like gory or scary films, are pre-warned about
the contents of the film so that it doesn’t scare them.
Content considerations My film won’t contain any content that
will effect anyone because it doesn't
involve any gore, violence or swearing.
There will not be any legal impact because I will be
sticking to the restrictions of having the age certificate
as PG
Your trailer is going to be shown
online
‘Short of the week’ have guidelines for
submitting a film. The films need to be
less that 40minutes (preferably 10), they
prefer films that haven’t been uploaded to
other websites, films that are free for
audiences and films that have the rights
and releases for them to feature them.
My film will be within the ideal time limit, and I won’t
have uploaded it to any other websites. My film won’t
have any adverts so the audience won’t have to pay to
watch and I am using royalty free music so I wont have
any copyright problems when sending it in.
11. o If I do get any legal or ethical issues, I will first take down my film from both ‘Short
of the Week’s’ website and the Ringwood School’s ‘YouTube’ channel so that I have
taken on board the complaint straight away and will not cause any more problems.
o For example, if there is a problem with one of my scenes, I will reshoot that
particular scene and the same will go if there is any problems with audio.
o After that, I will then re-upload the film back onto the websites, hopefully without
any more issues.
12. o When I presented my pitch to the panel, I was advised that I need to make the storyline
a bit clearer in the fact that there are three characters that are linked and help one
character influence his ideas about how to crack his scientific theory.
o I was told that I need to make sure that it is clear in the film that the character are
effecting one another by either focusing on the specific scene in which they are linked, or
show the link at the end of the film.
o To take this information on board, I have decided that I will focus on the specific scenes
in which they are linked and may include some extreme close up/close up shots of the
actions that will be taking place.
o Another idea would be that I can show the links at the end of the film in a sort of ‘flash
back’ style so that the film is a bit confusing at the start, but then comes together at the
end and makes more sense to the audience. With this idea, it will also keep the audience
intrigued and want to watch the whole film so that they find out the meaning of
everything at the end.
