• The Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) is a 21-item, self-report
rating inventory that measures characteristic attitudes and
symptoms of depression. The BDI was first introduced in
1961, and it has been revised several times
• Beck et al. (1988) reported high internal consistency
reliability of the instrument among both psychiatric and
non psychiatric populations. The authors also reported
that the BDI closely parallels the changes in both patient
self-report and clinicians' ratings of depression
