The Clinical Visit course for Medical Lab Technology students is designed to offer a
comprehensive understanding of clinical laboratories. The course is organized into three units,
providing knowledge about the healthcare system, regulations, clinical lab techniques, roles
of lab technologists, and the significance of lab reports. Each unit is enriched with case studies
to support practical, experiential learning and foster critical thinking. The course aims to
prepare students to effectively function in a clinical lab setting, promoting professional
development and competency in medical lab technology.
B. COURSE OBJECTIVES:
1. Identify the role and types of clinical labs, common lab equipment, and responsibilities of lab
technologists.
2. Comprehend the significance of regulations, standards, basic lab techniques, and the importance
of a well-structured lab report in healthcare.
3. Demonstrate proper application of learned knowledge, including lab safety protocols, sample
handling, and embodying the role of a lab technologist.
4. Analyze various case studies to understand the impact of lab techniques on disease diagnosis, lab
technologists' actions on patient care, and error handling in lab processes.
5. Critically assess various situations, such as those involving lab safety, standards, errors in sample
handling or lab result interpretation, and ethical dilemmas surrounding controversial lab results.
