1. Evaluation Question 7
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to
your full product
2.
3. masthead
I believe that I have highly improved my use of the masthead. One way is through the font, the first font was
too simple as it used the stereotypical college typeface with a white outline while the final product uses a bold
italic san serif font, which has been edited using the liquify tool to create a more original typeface an adding a
multi coloured outline to create the colour scheme. Both have a tagline to the top of the logo however in the
prelimarey task I used a boring basic ‘best magazine’ while the final product used a more inspirational ‘voice
of the generation’ tagline which also follows the magazines style guide, making the magazine more original
and noticeable.
4. Front cover image
The preliminary product image
was taken on an iPhone in broad
daylight and was the best image
out of 7 taken while the final
product image is one of 200
images taken in front of a white
background using a Cannon DSLR
and and professional lights, I
learnt that taking images for for a
magazine isn't something to be
rushes and need to be planed and
taken with more professional
environments and equipment. I
also chose my subject more
carefully as I believe he’s more
photogenic and correct for the
magazine.
5. footer
For the footer on the preliminary task, I decided to go basic and provide a website for the
magazine, this was moved to the contents page for the final image as I decided to add
another story to the page. I also used the a more interesting colour scheme and font as the
font is more noticeable to the audience as it’s larger and more colourful then the basic red in
the preliminary task. It also has the price and barcode which I moved above in the final
product to allow more space in the footer.
6. stories
In my preliminary task, the stories weren't very interesting and were very generic and stereotypical which wouldn't
of caught an audience while in the final image, I chose to include more quotes, exclusives and artists that would
cause more of my target audience to be more interested and informed than the preliminary task. Finally I followed
the magazines style guide in the final image which is more unique and interesting to the audience and pops out on
magazine stalls while the preliminary task looks very generic and boring compared to the final image.
