3. Mood Boards: Colour reasoning
.
As you can see from my images above the main colours I hope to use are red, white and
yellow/gold. Firstly these colours are associated with Liverpool, especially the colour red,
hence the club’s nickname, ‘The Reds’. Also the colour red gives connotations of passion, and
Liverpool fans are globally well renowned for their dedicated passion to the club. I want to
use a fairly darker shade of red but not too dark as in my opinion a bright red doesn’t look
aesthetically pleasing and when I was doing my research, the only Liverpool fanzine I saw
used a really bright red colour and in my opinion it made it look far less professional and
almost as if it was made on paint. The colour yellow also has positive connotations and can be
associated with happiness and optimism, generally most Liverpool fans are very optimistic
and as they are a big club with a rich history there are high expectations, so the yellow/gold is
not only a colour associated with the club but it’s connotations match the fans general
outlook on life.. Not only does it give connotations of what I have discussed but it also is quite
a bright which stand out and could be appealing. Also the colour white is on the mood board
as it is usually the secondary colour on a Liverpool kit if it isn’t the yellow/gold. This colour will
be good to use to balance out the brighter colours and make it look more neutral looking.
5. Mood Boards: Font choices
First off all I wanted to choose fonts that were bold and stood out, I Initially looked at some basic serif/sans serif fonts
that stood out, I wanted fairly big bold fonts to really emphasize the word ‘Liverpool’ and to make it stand out.
However after looking at the fonts, although I liked them I realised they would be more suitable as the headlines over
the DPS article, and a different style font could look better as the whole fanzine title. Although it could also be a good
idea to try stick with the same style font throughout. One other font I looked at was the ‘Heavy Metal Blight’ font. This
appealed to me due its name as the Liverpool manager refers to their style of play as ‘heavy metal’ . Although the
name appealed to me the font itself was too distorted and did not look that good so it is unlikely I will use that.
Another distorted font I looked into was called ‘storm’ I liked the style of this as it had the speed lines on the letters,
this would symbolise Liverpool well as they are famous for their quick counter attacks and particularly fast wingers.
7. Mood Boards: Images
.
For my images the most common theme is clearly the amount of red, I have already explained why that will be used a lot
for me and why it will be a good choice of colour. The graphic on image 1 is the most aesthetically pleasing for me as the
colours it uses are not just a bright red and yellow but two shades of a darker red which look great, also the colour they
use for the Liverbird looks really good and is not a typical image of it. If I add a logo to my fanzine this is the type of logo I
would like. I also like the more gold style then the bright yellow which Is a colour I would like to use throughout my own
fanzine. Images 2 and 3 are there to reference the Liverbird just they are two different colours. I would like to use the
liverbird as a logo for the fanzine. Images 4 and 7 are iconic images associated with the club, and for image 4 I like that
shade of red and it is similar to what I would want to use for my actual product. Image 6 is a really nice graphic and I
would like to try something similar to put along side one of my articles. Image 12 represents Hillsborough and I would like
to dedicate one of my articles to it. Image 13 shows the iconic Shankly gates and I would like these to be the background
for my front cover, I will use my own images for this.
