The document analyzes and compares the contents pages of six issues of the music magazine Vibe. It finds that they all follow typical magazine layout conventions, featuring a dominant main image of an artist making direct address to the audience. Five of the six images feature male artists, reflecting the magazine's target male demographic. Elements like clothing, facial expressions, and logo placement vary across the pages but consistently reflect the magazine's brand and different representations of the R&B genre it covers. The layout remains similar with small variations in image size and crop to suit the style of each featured artist.

2. All of the following Contents pages are from the music magazine Vibe. They
have been designed in a particular way to attract fans of the R&B genre.
Through carrying out an investigation of them and by comparing them to each
other, it is possible to identify shared features within them and to establish
repeated patterns.
The six contents pages all feature most of the typical magazine contents page
conventions. We see expected general and layout conventions, such as the
main image that dominates the contents page and text surrounded around it.
We can also see a colour scheme that matches the style of the magazine.
In addition to this, we see other repeated patterns. Each of the contents pages
feature just one main image. However five out of six of these feature a artist
and one feature a important person, the president. They can be found doing a
pose while making direct address to the audience. This is the same in most
music magazines to indicate the style and genre of the magazine. It is a
interesting and clever way of attracting the magazine’s target audience, as the
main artist is probably likely to have have done something recent or be a
popular artist.
Most of the content pages that I have chosen are based on males, this is
because my style of my magazine will be aimed at a male audience. Three
content pages feature a male artist wearing a suit. This reflects how dominate
this genre is.
We can see many similar mise-en-scene elements presented in each content
pages. Like I have mentioned before, in half of my contents pages we can see
artists wearing a suit. However for the rest of the contents pages we can see
artists wearing different clothes. This can show that this genre can be seen in
many different ways. The artists also make different expressions on their faces
in each contents page. kanye West is making a serious face while barack
Obama is smiling. this can also reflect that this magaine can be seen in
different ways.
On half of the contents pages, we can see a a big letter V, at the top of the
page. This can reflect the magazine name Vibe. It also matches the colour
scheme of the background because it is a similar colour. On the other contents
pages we can see the name Vibe in a small logo located at the top left. It is

3. normally on top of the text on that page, however on one magazine featuring
Hip-Hop artist Eminem, we can see the text located on the opposite side of the
logo. This could show he is loyal, simply because of the fact that he won the
‘Best Rapper Alive Tournament’ which was hosted by Vibe.
Layout is mainly the same across all of the Magazine contents pages. The
placement of the arists are similar. However we can see different shots in
different magazines. We can see a long shot of Bruno Mars in one magazine
and a medium shot of Kanye West in another. I believe this is done so that the
main image reflects the style of the magazine.
