17. Academic History
I studied media studies for my GSCE in year nine and ten. When
studying that subject in high school I didn’t have big passion for it. The
teachings and the technology wasn’t advanced enough. A lot of it was
print based and exploring the tabloids of the papers. Through this we
looked at the print terminology. However I consider English literature to
be huge advantage when I was studying. In this subject we looked at
films and books. Analysing different characters and motives. As well as
specific shots in the film. Whilst this didn’t have relation to the subject it
would be something we would point out for fun in lesson. Whilst I
stopped studying it in year 9. I did have my IT lessons. A lot of it was
computer science and whilst it didn’t hold my interest as there wasn’t
much to do with editing. It did teach me how to operate basic softwares
such as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. I also took drama for my GCSE.
I believed that I wanted to be an actor one day. When I realised I wasn’t
comfortable with it and I didn’t have much enjoyment. I moved to
media studies. It was analysing the characters in English literature and
Drama that I had developed a passion for this.
18. Current Study
Since I have been at college I have learned a variety of different skills.
This includes learning many different skills from softwares that I
hadn’t even used before college. The main one being Adobe
Photoshop. With this software I have applied many different skills
and learnt so many different tools since using it. Another software
which I have gained confidence using since being at college is Adobe
Premiere pro. This is a software that I will use when I am doing any of
my video editing. College has helped me prep for university
massively. Through tasks like work experience or studying our chosen
career path. We were able to apply what we knew from that and
researching into the universities that we want to go into. From
studying at college it has helped me take my direction behind the
camera. Before college I was unsure but since I’ve been there. I have
been reassured that my path of becoming a director one day is the
right one. Also since i have been at college I have discovered my
passion for making movie posters. Something I do online as a hobby
and hope to take further down into my career.
19. The Future
My dream job when I am older is to become a director or a
cinematography. I think it is still very early days. If I was to achieve this I
can’t see myself achieving this until I am of older age and I have worked
hard for it. For my hobby creating film posters is another thing that
interests me. The creative design that I take great care in the same way
as I do for my film making. University will help me with my future job
and aspirations because they have the advanced equipment. Also at the
uni I’m looking at (ST John’s) they have a 96% rate of there student s
finding a media based job once they leave. This is means that there is a
many doors open for me to take. I also have other contacts. Through
family. I have family friend who has wrote a few screen plays himself
that have reached America. We have talked and he has offered many
useful tips. Forming a close bond like this could lead to us sharing
projects and improving my skills with not just filmmaking but also
scriptwriting. I have many aspiration and it depends on what contact or
recognition I will get along the way to open that door.
20. Outside College
I have of different social networks that I use to upload any of my work
onto. This includes instagram, reddit, twitter, and quite recently I have
started using YouTube to test out my camera skills. This is the same
channel that my work from college will be uploaded to. I have also
started to take commissions for the work that i am making. It’s currently
free but once I start getting more people will be getting charged for a
price. As well as this I have set up a Redbubble account. I still need to
upload items that I need to design but once I have I’ll be putting prices
on my products. Photoshop and Premiere pro are the two softwares
that I use the most when it comes to the work that I upload. I feel like
through doing stuff like this it will make me a better candidate for a
media course at university. Through this I promoting my skills to the
general public and will be getting paid whilst do it. However I am also
looking a part time job on the side but this won’t have an impact on my
university course. As the job I’ll get won’t be media related unless I get
lucky.
21. Conclusion
The main reason I want to go to university is to extended my knowledge
of media. I think I have a lot to give but still a lot more to learn. I have
had an open day and through looking at the equipment and the
resources. I know that it is the right place to be. I still think that there is
a lot more to be learned. I will have a part time job whilst studying at
this university so that I will be able to pay off my debt when it comes to
the end of my three years. In order for it to work I will have to find
multiples jobs that will be able to pay off the acceptable fee and will
have to look at a university that has a close accommodation to where I
live. It also means that I will only be going to university for just a few
days and not five. In short I want to extend my education further
because I consider that It will be beneficial. It will also help me
transition between my education and my work life.
22. Introduction
I want to go university because I want to gain the extra qualifications
that will look good on my CV. Without a doubt I am aiming for a good
grade and I think there is still a lot not only to learn at university but to
also experience. My passion for media became more apparent once I
was at college and I would take great enjoyment in carrying that further.
In terms of what I want to do on a career aspect. I’m not too sure. I
know for sure that it will regard something in the media industry. I enjoy
many forms of media from editing to designing to film making. I think
it’s just a matter of finding out which one I enjoy studying the most and
stick wit that path. Currently I'm enjoying many different things but
because there is so many they aren’t developing to learning new things.
Just improving. I also enjoy the writing side of it. I have recently been
writing my own script. So a profession of script writer or script editor is
another particular interest of mine.
