n this modern age of technological advancements and cut-throat
Icompetition, highly-specialized educational facility with the latest
technological innovations has emerged as a matter of paramount
importance. The Indian educational system has metamorphosed with the
passage of time. The Diploma courses in India have evolved gradually
and have embraced modern technological innovations. These courses
vary from short to long terms. They have gained quite the popularity
owing to the fact that these courses don’t involve too many formalities.
Usually, they don’t have an entrance test, and they have liberal eligibility
criteria as compared to regular degree courses.
The leading educational institutions offering diploma courses are
employing the latest research focused and career oriented teaching
procedures. These degrees provide many conveniences to the students
due to which they attract more students for additional education, who not
only want to enhance their career, but also want to get educated for their
personal interest and gaining more knowledge. Additionally, these
courses also train individuals to become expert professionals so that they
can meet today’s industrial needs. Sometimes degree courses fail to
provide the practical skills required to thrive in the industry; here diploma
courses play an essential part in providing skilled workforce to industries.
Diploma courses also provide the advantage of cost efficiency. Since
India is an economically developing country, many individuals from
economically weaker sections cannot afford full-time degree courses.
Diploma courses being comparatively cheaper than degree courses
provide students of economically backward sections the scope of
studying and offer them the chance to achieve the status and aspirations
they seek.
Diploma education is providing talented individuals an opportunity to
showcase their skills and prove their worth in this highly competitive
world. The implementation of modern technology and advanced research
procedures is enhancing diploma education in India. With more
specialized methods being implemented in diploma education, it is
gradually proceeding towards further innovation, growth, and
empowerment.

anjay Ghodawat Polytechnic was established in the year 2012 at Atigre, Maharashtra by the
SChairman of Sanjay Ghodawat Group, Sanjay Ghodawat. In the year 2009, with the vision to be
the driving force behind young India's employability and entrepreneurial spirit, the Sanjay
Ghodawat Institute was already established with Engineering and Management Colleges. The
imminent need of skilled employability further provided the impetus to commence the Sanjay
Ghodawat Polytechnic with the necessary go ahead from Maharashtra State Board Technical Education
(MSBTE) and the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE, Mumbai).
Exceptional Educational and Infrastructural Facilities
Sanjay Ghodawat Polytechnic provides extraordinary educational and infrastructural facilities to the
students. The institute has an intake of 420 students for the First Year. It offers specialization in
Mechanical, Civil, Computer Science, Electronics & Telecommunication, and Electrical. It offers state

ith so many myths about
Wthe usefulness of
qualifications and the drive
to get a ‘piece of paper’, the question
still remains as, “Is a diploma worth
it?” Whenever we decide to take a new
path, it can be a little daunting trying to
figure out where to head with your
education. Naturally, we want to get
the most out of any education efforts so
that we can enter the workforce
headstrong, and be job-ready. There are
certain facts about diplomas which
explain just how much value they have
in the modern workplace.
When students are wondering whether
it is worth getting a diploma, they need
to become familiar with the Indian
diploma courses and the institutes
offering diploma courses. A designed
diploma curriculum plays an important
factor in developing the skill-sets of an
individual and is a value addition to
one’s qualification. In general, diploma
courses are short term courses which
vary from six months to eighteen
months and mainly focus on a
particular industry and a desired skill
set.
Here are the reasons why diploma
courses are more valuable than we
think.
Real-Life Skills that Make Students
Job Ready
Mainly, diploma courses are practical
based. Diploma education gives the
opportunity to understand the skills
one needs while allowing them to put
these skills into practice. This will
enable them to jump straight into the
workforce with all the necessary
knowledge and capabilities.
High Return on Investment
Diploma courses provide students with
a faster path way to complete a
qualification and enter the workforce.
A diploma qualification will help
students in successfully entering the
workforce. It will help them in earning
a better award rate in faster time and
less financial investment than a
university degree.
Accelerated Career Pathway
Beginning with a diploma helps you to
accelerate your journey of the
qualification ladder while you work.
Students can shorten the time it takes
to complete a Bachelor or Postgraduate
qualification.
The Best Choice for Cost-Effective
Education
Diploma has proven itself to be a more
flexible, accessible and adaptable
platform for educating and skilling
Indian education than university
education. Importantly, given the rising
cost of formal education, diploma
courses are also a more cost-effective
training option for businesses and
individuals. The cost of diploma varies
with the institute.
Diploma Can Be Completed in
Significantly Less Time
University degrees require minimum of
3 years for full time degree while
maximum period for completing
diploma is 3 years, and most diplomas
can be completed within a year. The
amount of time you spend on education
will be lessened, allowing you to enter
the workforce and reap the benefits
sooner. So diploma is the best option
for the students who don’t want to
invest too much time for study.
Greater and Fairer Accessibility
Generally, universities do look for
specific exam scores for accepting into
their courses. There are so many exams
in India to take an admission for
degree. Scores of these exams are
important for students who want to
pursue a degree course; on other hand,
diploma courses are less reliant on
these scores, giving a better chance of
being accepted into the course of your
choice.
Better Pass Rates
The student pass rate for diploma
courses is more than university
courses. In general, most of the degree
courses have a theory based syllabus,
while diploma is practical based. As a
result, the passing rate of diploma
students is more than that of degree
students.
More Experience
Experience is the one thing which is of
utmost importance in any industry.
Diploma holders are exposed to an
industry earlier than the degree
holders. As a result, they get extra
experience than degree holders.
Because of the experience, they have a
scope of better payment and better
growth opportunities in industries.
Improved Self Esteem
The most important thing about a
diploma that makes students stand a
little bit straighter and taller is that it
boosts their self-esteem and
confidence. There’s an extra sense of
accomplishment when you complete
your diploma. You have accomplished
something that no one can ever take
away from you. One can lose the
physical degree certificate and may
move on from the job that your
diploma helped you attain, but they
will never lose the skillsets that they
have. Even when tough times fall, they
know they have what it takes to start
something and finish it successfully,
and that is priceless.
Entering the workforce can be difficult,
but with the right qualifications,
students will be able to easily find a job
and utilize their skills. In many cases, a
diploma is the best answer: it comes at
a fraction of the cost, time and effort,
and often better sets students up for
their new career. T R

n this age of mass production when everything must be
Iplanned and designed, design has become the most
powerful tool with which man shapes his tools and
environments (and, by extension, society and himself)”
(Victor Papanekin ‘Design for the Real World’ 2nd ed.
‘Preface’).
Design is human-centered, in that, it essentially reflects
human needs and wants, as well as the central ideas and
artistic, cultural perceptions of the time. The designer, with
empathy, is expected to accommodate aesthetic, economic,
technological, and commercial constraints and arrive at an
appropriate synthesis - in a cumulative process of problem
solving, goal orienting, questioning of assumptions,
conceptual thinking, planning, decision making and
creation. Design as an activity involves a wide spectrum of
professions in which architecture, interiors, products,
services, and visual communications, all take part, with the
overarching intention of enhancing the quality of life while
transforming societies.
Visual communication design can truly function both as a
product and an activity. It is the activity of planning,
conceiving, envisaging, and creating visual
communications, the implementation of which is via
industrial means, and generative of broad-casting particular
messages to specific audiences. This is done so as to elicit a
response that is inevitably related to the feelings,
knowledge, attitudes, and the behavior of audiences as
members of a society. A piece of communication design is
an ‘object’ created by that activity.
Communication design is art, craft, technology and social
science as well. It is an art because it grapples with forms
and calls for acute awareness of and sensitivity to the visual
vocabulary of places and peoples. It is a social science for
the very simple reason that it is always aimed at people, and
disciplines such as anthropology, sociology, and psychology
have much to offer to the creation of effective and
appropriate communications. It is a craft because the
technology that is deployed requires comprehension that
cannot rely exclusively on the automated systems that
actualize it. It is a technology because it is always produced
via means of industry. Communication design is a sensitive,
intellectual and pragmatic discipline, which engages many
strata of human activity: sensitivity to the visual domain,
awareness of culture, analytical power, sensitivity to
difference, flexibility of the mind, lucidity of judgment,
technical grasp, and interpersonal skills. In contemporary
society, where information is a central, vital commodity, the
importance of visual communication design is only limited
by the quality of the designers that a society produces.
Given the preeminence of visual vocabulary in our cultures
in general, and the escalating quantum of visual information
in particular, visual communication designers can make
meaningful contributions to the effectiveness, clarity,
aesthetic, and economic viability of the rapidly expanding
flow of information. From print, publications, layout and
cover design, packaging, to visual identity design, digital
design, branding languages, poster, illustration, advertising
design, to way-finding and environmental graphics - visual
communication designers can enable this information flow

and contribute remarkably to the quality of our societies and our
lives.
In a somewhat recent development, social marketing has furthered the
traditional domain of communication design. While there have been
communicators with good intentions for years aplenty, communications aiming
to address social problems were generally conceived with a great deal of naivety
– producing ideas with little or no change heralding impact. However, over time,
there has been a gradual adoption and adaptation of the experiences of commercial
advertising, and that has been effectively put in the service of the public good via
socially aware communications.
All societies develop, evolve and transform within a permanent flow of information
exchange. The urban environment, the public transportation system and the mass media
ecology are vital sources of information that both express and build culture in myriad
ways. For eg. Advertising seeds cultural models of behavior and appearance, and in
turn promotes lifestyles, choices and cultural values. As can be seen, design as a
profession has great responsibilities. The aim of communication design is to affect the
behavior, knowledge and attitudes of people - something that occurs after the
communication takes place. Visual communication design, variously reflects how social
roles get defined, how cultural consensus is built, and how a cultural language is
constructed within a society.

FORTHE21 CENTURYSTUDENT
Exams have been around for centuries now, so have
study tactics and advice; in spite of students
considering them as necessary devil. Although
latest research shows that the conventional ways and
wisdom about how to learn are being disapproved.
Education is evolving faster than it has ever before. With
this, there is a need to change the ways in which the
students learn. While learning and remembering facts and
working over piles of notes and books may still be
necessary to score high marks, it is, in fact, creative
thinking and a deeper understanding of conceptions that
assures lasting long-term success and growth. To make the
process of preparing for examinations not only more
effective, but also more pleasant and less stressful, here are
some tips that every 21st-century learner can adapt or
follow.
Mindset is everything
Before attempting to study, you need to make sure you are
in the right mindset. It is important that you study for the
right reasons. Learning is a joint venture between
development and success, and not a hostile takeover or war.
Make sure your intent to study is sorted. You need to ask
yourself why you want to learn; is it to get an ‘A’ or is it to
get admitted to your dream university.

Editor’s Choice
Many people look at studying as a compulsory task, not a
pleasure or a prospect to learn. Although being this is
reasonable, but scientists have found that how you approach
something and mindset matters almost as much as what you
do. Mindset is the key factor when it comes to smart study.
Although grades and money are essential, if they are your
sole intention to learn something, it will keep you from
enjoying your studies, and probably also keep you from
learning.
Attaching an extrinsic reward to any activity significantly
reduces the intrinsic joy of the activity. Your performance at
a particular task can seriously suffer if you focus on the
results of an activity instead of the process. Think positively
when you study; and remind yourself of your skills and
aptitudes. Always aim at making yourself better at your
work.
Pace Yourself, Brace Yourself
Watch your breath; it helps you calm your mind before you
sit down to study. Spending a few minutes focusing on your
breath can work wonders in helping you unruffle your mind,
and cultivate your attention. Various studies have shown
that working on your breath and mind enhances your focus
and concentration. Distractions are inevitable; one can only
be fully attentive when you have no thoughts, and this can
help you achieve your goal. When there is a distraction, a
person becomes frustrated and impatient; this is avoidable.
Set a timer for yourself about 20 or 25 minutes, and each
time you find yourself distracted, try to notice when it has
taken place. Then take a few more breaths and get back to
work. Practicing mindfulness regularly will eventually
allow you to have fewer distractions and will help manage
performance anxiety. Being in the right mind, calm, and
composed during the exam season allows you to focus on
the work at hand.
Stressing out during your exam will make you forget what
you have learned. To avoid this you need to take a moment
and stop working---take a deep breath. 3-5 deep breaths
should do the trick. It will help you calm yourself and
increase your focus.
Mix the New with the Old
“Old is gold”, with a slight integration of old studying
methods with new, they can work wonders. As technology
and ways of learning advance, there is a need for a constant
upgrade in study strategies as well. For instance, using an
iPad to keep notes or watching a YouTube video to better
understand a concept is fine, but it’s crucial to remember
that some old-school strategies, like written practice, are
timeless. Nothing can beat a paper and pencil when it
comes to learning. Another way you should definitely
follow is flashcards and quizzing yourself. They help you
recollect and eventually remember during the exam.
Learning by Way of Technology
Our everyday life is surrounded by technology. To go
through the day, you need to be tech savvy. Due to the great
level of advancements in technology, it has taken over
everything, including the classrooms. Recent studies show
that integration of technology into the student’s life can
benefit a great deal. Technology helps build up greater
networks with people, growing content further than ever
before, and allows you to create new ideas.
Technology brings student closer to their dreams and helps
prepare them for their future careers. It provides the
opportunity to students to improve the communication with
their classmates and instructors by promoting collaboration.
Further, it helps student access up to date information easily
and quickly. Applying new technology like VR to a
traditional classroom set up, can boost the learning
experience and create new prospects.
Old ways together with new strategies can surely help you
excel in your exam, succeed in life, and help you become a
smart learner. When you study, rather than the quest to
achieve good grades or admission to college, engage in the
process of learning itself. Follow your breath, it is only
through breathing that you will be able to return to the
present moment, which will activate your body’s calming
response. This will allow you to think more clearly and
rationally. Use technology; it empowers you to be more
creative, connected, and to explore new opportunities. Try
blending these ways in your schedule while studying and
remember to work on your mindset; it will help build up
your attention and filter out distractions. Good luck! T R

Introduction
The real and practical experiences received by the people
with help of games, sports, arts, literary, culture, etc are
known as co-curricular activities earlier known as Extra-
curricular Activities. To a greater extent, the theoretical
knowledge gets strengthened and supplemented with
relevant co-curricular activities related to the content taught
in the classroom. Academic aspects of personality are solely
accomplished by classroom, while aesthetic development,
character building, spiritual growth, physical growth, moral
values, creativity, etc. are supported by co-curricular
activities. The execution of academic contents like
frankness and clarity in language, creativity and innovation,
and overall personality development is supported by co-
curricular activities. It helps to develop co-ordination,
adjustment, speech fluency, extempore expressions, etc.
among students both at the college as well as in the society.
Role of Co-curricular Activities in Student’s Life
Besides academics, co-curricular and extra co-curricular
activities play instrumental role in shaping and making
overall growth and development of human mind. No doubt,
one should primarily focus on academic activities to learn
and excel the scholarly qualities. However, it is extra co-
curricular activities like sports, games, art and culture, etc
that provide a good platform for a child/student to outshine
his/her latent potentials to compete with the challenges that
come on his/her way. In fact, it enables the
children/students to enter into the unopened doors of their
lives and become wise enough to go on the ways of the
world. The co-curricular activities such as their
participation in group activities like debates, quizzes, group
discussion, essay completions, brain storming sessions,
their interaction with peer groups, etc. make them learn
practically and enter into the real life challenges and
overcome them by their knowledge and competence. The
co-curricular activities facilitate in the multi-facets
development of various domains of mind and personality
such as intellectual development, emotional development,
social development, moral development and aesthetic
development. Creativity, enthusiasm, energetic, and positive
thinking are some of the important outcomes of the
personality development achieved by co-curricular
activities.
Acquisition of knowledge is not limited to what are in
books and other sources of literature. Rather knowledge is
based on what one learns through the experiences of one’s
real life. There are many human beings suffering from
many problems which are more psychological than
physical. Contentment in life rests on the mental
satisfaction that varies from person to person and society to
society. A great Indian poet Kabeer had knowledge in
himself yet he needed interaction with such a mentor who
can enlighten him. Therefore he went to seek the shelter of
his guru Ramanand. The world knows well who Kabeer is
today.
Importance and Benefits of Co-curricular Activities
• It brings healthy competition amongst the students.
• The overall career of student shines and the leadership
qualities grows in the students.
• It empowers and helps the students to express themselves
freely.
• These activities help the students not only to be wise but
also be fit and energetic in their lives. It also inculcates the
values to respect other’s view and feeling.
• The student gets exposure to organize activity, to develop
skills, to co-operate and co-ordinate in different situations.
It also provides ample opportunity for self-identification
and self-assessment in different situations and
circumstances.
• It provides sufficient skill how to behave and manage the
situation when they are in contact with organizers, fellow
participants, teachers, and people outside the school

during cultural activity.
• It develops a sense of belongingness and it becomes very
important in decision making situations
• It enhances the interest in the academics.
Role of Academic Institutions in Organising
Co-curricular Activities
If an institution does not promote the extra-curricular and
Co-curricular activities in proper direction, students might
probably go into a situation where they will find chaos with
no fruitful outcome. Therefore, the extra-curricular and
Co-curricular activities should not only be promoted by the
institution but suitable mentors should be provided for the
same. From level of school to the university, the teachers
have great role to enrich their student in all respect through
Co-curricular activities. Although the role of teachers in the
overall personality development of student is almost
unlimited even some of them are listed below:
• The institute/university must plan the different activities to
be carried out systematically throughout the year without
much disturbance of academic.
• The concerned faculty member should provide sufficient
opportunity to their students to perform Co-curricular
activities without any stress.
• The institute should introduce some innovative
programmes and encourage the students to effectively
participate.
Conclusion
The academic institutions in their curriculum provide the
co-curricular activities for development of the right brain.
These facilitate skills of listening, language, fine and gross
motor activity, discipline and expression, patience and
leadership; all the while reaching the inner core of all that is
fine about the human being. The virtues hidden in the inner
cores of students can be explored with the help of co-
curricular activities. It also helps the students being in the
expression and active manifestation of their noble
tendencies like, humility, continence, service, generosity,
benevolence, ethics, moral, etc. It is also helpful for the
natural reflections of basic instincts that found the basis of
evolution of character of human being. The students can
make worth use of their immense potential and available
opportunities and resources only with the active
participation in the co-curricular and extra-curricular
activities.

Flipped Classrooms:Revolutionizing Education Innovatively
Technological advancements have drastically
affected our lives in many different ways.
Our day-to-day activities have been made
easier and complicated tasks can be performed easily
and in a jiffy. Different sectors like education,
transport, and healthcare, have received a major
facelift with the implementation of digital
technologies.
The education sector has undergone massive changes
thanks to these technological developments. Latest
digital technologies are gradually making their way
into the education sector. Most of the schools and
colleges are these days utilizing and implementing
modern technologies to provide students the best
possible educational experience. Teachers aim at
clarifying the students' doubts and queries properly
and innovatively along with providing them a lasting
experience. With the passage of time, educational
technology has evolved drastically and has
introduced groundbreaking changes in this sector.
Flipped classrooms have emerged as an indispensible
part of this flourishing ed-tech industry. It is an
innovative concept in education which utilizes IT and
advanced technology in education, introducing
innovation and interaction into the field. In this
approach, the in-class time in educational institutions
is used for clearing doubts and queries of students,
and for assessing and meeting the needs of individual
students. Students are provided with course materials
for studying outside the classroom. These materials
may include pre-recorded video sessions, reading
assignments, power point presentations, or research
assignments. During the class, teachers help students
work through course materials both individually and
in groups, and contribute in enhancing the learning
process.
Flipped learning enhances education and helps in
taking it to the next level. It brings a tremendous
change in traditional education. Flipped classrooms
provide students the direct access to knowledge and
also assist teachers in performing as better coaches
and mentors. But, it also comes with a mixed bag of advantages and
disadvantages.
The Advantages of Flipped Classrooms
L ’earning at One s Own Pace
Flipped learning provides students the option of studying and
completing their projects and assignments whenever and wherever
they want (provided they submit the assignments on time).
In-depth Study and Analysis of the Subject
Flipped learning provides students the scope to research, study, and
conduct thorough analysis of the subject. With the help of flipped
technologies, students can delve deeper into the learning material.
Teachers can offer advanced learning materials to students who want
more challenging sessions.

there are issues related to technology and internet
connectivity, problems with proper implementation
of flipped classrooms may also emerge.
Problems with Organization
Implementing flipped classrooms for the first time
will require a lot of management and organizing.
Teachers will have to introduce an entirely new and
different concept of flipped classes to the students.
This process may take some time as the students
have to transition from a more passive form of
learning to an active form of learning.
Lack of Motivation
Students should always be motivated to complete
their homework, study properly, and be prepared for
the class. If they don t, they would be easily’
distracted by other things. Teachers should provide
the basic and necessary knowledge to the students in
the classroom. Otherwise, it will be difficult for the
students to delve deeper into the subject matter by
using flipped learning tools. Teachers should
motivate the students to complete their assignments
and homework; otherwise the implementation of
flipped classrooms will be useless.
Flipped Classrooms are not for Every Student
Flipped classroom is an innovative and unique
concept in the field of education. It shifts from the
track of traditional education system and introduces
modern and interactive teaching–learning techniques.
Flipped classrooms require a lot of self-discipline.
Many students may be accustomed to the traditional
teaching–learning procedure, and may find it difficult
to cope with flipped classroom techniques.
Flipped classrooms come along with a mixed bag of
advantages and disadvantages. The question still
stays, whether its advantages will outweigh its
disadvantages? For using flipped classes to their
advantage, teachers and parents will have to
cooperate and motivate the students to study and do a
lot of work by themselves at home. Parents should
support and cooperate with the students, and help
them in properly utilizing flipped learning tools.
They should try to solve their child's doubts and
queries related to their studies.
Flipped classroom is a major step towards an
educational revolution. Though this method may not
be that successful in elementary school, but can be
efficiently utilized for college and university level
education. If utilized resourcefully, flipped learning
can help students to delve deeper into learning
materials and assist them where needed.
Better Preparation for Teachers and Students
Teachers can use flipped learning tools to improve the
teaching–learning process. Students can use these tools to properly
complete their homework and other related assignments. Moreover,
flipped learning tools assist teachers in tracking students progress’
and viewing their results. It helps the teachers in assessing the
strengths and weaknesses of students, so that they can take
necessary steps accordingly for the improvement of the students.
Furthermore, it helps teachers to identify errors in thinking or
concept application.
Recycling and Reusing Lectures
Flipped learning tools provide the option of reusing the prepared
lectures and sessions. Students can reuse the lecture sessions as per
their convenience. Moreover, teachers can prepare digital lectures
which can be reused for the next year.
The Advantage of Transparency
Flipped classes also provide the advantage of transparency. Parents
can take a look at their children’s video lectures as per their
convenience. In case children don’t understand a concept, parents
can take help of flipped learning tools to explain and help them.
The Disadvantages of Flipped Classrooms
Issues Related to Technology
Flipped classes depend on proper internet access and connectivity. If

schemes and saving fissures can be his platform to show his talent. For this field, a new section of diploma in
finance management has opened and is being widely chosen by students.
• Diploma in Risk and Insurance management - When businesses are expanding globally, a horde of
opportunities is springing up, requiring this field to be covered more by risk management techniques such as
insurance. The current insurance market yearning at 77000 crore is expected to stir up at 17% per announce
companies. Many big businesses have joined hands with insurance companies to provide material for financial
risk. A great demand has surged up for trained and skilled professionals who can access this field. This owes to
be the key reason why the course of diploma in risk and insurance management is gaining popularity.
Expansion of Idea and Unprecedented Challenges
Accounting back from days of independence in the late 1940s, India was having a total of 53 polytechnic
institutes which had acceptance rate of 4000 students. But now ushering a new era in 2018, we have a more than
800 government and private polytechnic institutes which accept and intakes more than 600,000 students yearly.
However there are many challenges to this expanding idea due to new technology phase and lack of addressors
for the same.
A)High Technology in Utilization of Engineering Skills
Everywhere high technology is pacing up the ace of students whether applied theoretically or practically.
However, installment of required techs involves a huge amount of expenditure which is to be managed by college
trust. This results in increase in college fees and course, expensing at the cost of financially suffering students.
Nevertheless, if new technology implementation is denied, then it results in the loss of students as it affects their
learning culture.
B)Training and Assessment of Teachers
The Research and Development Team at Faculty board sometimes fails to be updated. Appraisals and trainings at
which teachers are patronized tend to be satisfactory but delivering excellent performance every time while
teaching the students is something one needs to focus upon. A lack of attention in this field has started to question
the quality of education being imparted to students. Another curriculum of exchanging faculties sometimes proves
out to be not so consoling as there a is difference in student-teacher management at colleges.
A Dawn to Face Diploma Challenges
Various methods of improvisation have emerged to tackle the mentioned issues which to a great extent have
colonized the effects on students as well as teachers. An increase in amount of funding by government for
installation of upgraded resources lies as a measure to break the financial constraints on students. More insights
for fighting challenges in this endeavor include increased support for instructors and teachers in a pedagogical
way. However, in some institutes it has proved out that students designing their own program and policies is also
an effective way to tackle gaps between management and students body. In this changing era of dynamic
development, every institute aims to be the best for each of its students through its courses. Students can also reap
the same by being passionate. In other words, one can quote the spirit of Anthony D’ j Angelo for any learner.
“Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow”. T R

  • 4. Editorial n this modern age of technological advancements and cut-throat Icompetition, highly-specialized educational facility with the latest technological innovations has emerged as a matter of paramount importance. The Indian educational system has metamorphosed with the passage of time. The Diploma courses in India have evolved gradually and have embraced modern technological innovations. These courses vary from short to long terms. They have gained quite the popularity owing to the fact that these courses don’t involve too many formalities. Usually, they don’t have an entrance test, and they have liberal eligibility criteria as compared to regular degree courses. The leading educational institutions offering diploma courses are employing the latest research focused and career oriented teaching procedures. These degrees provide many conveniences to the students due to which they attract more students for additional education, who not only want to enhance their career, but also want to get educated for their personal interest and gaining more knowledge. Additionally, these courses also train individuals to become expert professionals so that they can meet today’s industrial needs. Sometimes degree courses fail to provide the practical skills required to thrive in the industry; here diploma courses play an essential part in providing skilled workforce to industries. Diploma courses also provide the advantage of cost efficiency. Since India is an economically developing country, many individuals from economically weaker sections cannot afford full-time degree courses. Diploma courses being comparatively cheaper than degree courses provide students of economically backward sections the scope of studying and offer them the chance to achieve the status and aspirations they seek. Diploma education is providing talented individuals an opportunity to showcase their skills and prove their worth in this highly competitive world. The implementation of modern technology and advanced research procedures is enhancing diploma education in India. With more specialized methods being implemented in diploma education, it is gradually proceeding towards further innovation, growth, and empowerment. ‘‘ T R Diploma Degrees: Forging the Path towards Innovation, Empowerment, and Excellence Ananda Kamal Das

  • 19. ith so many myths about Wthe usefulness of qualifications and the drive to get a ‘piece of paper’, the question still remains as, “Is a diploma worth it?” Whenever we decide to take a new path, it can be a little daunting trying to figure out where to head with your education. Naturally, we want to get the most out of any education efforts so that we can enter the workforce headstrong, and be job-ready. There are certain facts about diplomas which explain just how much value they have in the modern workplace. When students are wondering whether it is worth getting a diploma, they need to become familiar with the Indian diploma courses and the institutes offering diploma courses. A designed diploma curriculum plays an important factor in developing the skill-sets of an individual and is a value addition to one’s qualification. In general, diploma courses are short term courses which vary from six months to eighteen months and mainly focus on a particular industry and a desired skill set. Here are the reasons why diploma courses are more valuable than we think. Real-Life Skills that Make Students Job Ready Mainly, diploma courses are practical based. Diploma education gives the opportunity to understand the skills one needs while allowing them to put these skills into practice. This will enable them to jump straight into the workforce with all the necessary knowledge and capabilities. High Return on Investment Diploma courses provide students with a faster path way to complete a qualification and enter the workforce. A diploma qualification will help students in successfully entering the workforce. It will help them in earning a better award rate in faster time and less financial investment than a university degree. Accelerated Career Pathway Beginning with a diploma helps you to accelerate your journey of the qualification ladder while you work. Students can shorten the time it takes to complete a Bachelor or Postgraduate qualification. The Best Choice for Cost-Effective Education Diploma has proven itself to be a more flexible, accessible and adaptable platform for educating and skilling Indian education than university education. Importantly, given the rising cost of formal education, diploma courses are also a more cost-effective training option for businesses and individuals. The cost of diploma varies with the institute. Diploma Can Be Completed in Significantly Less Time University degrees require minimum of 3 years for full time degree while maximum period for completing diploma is 3 years, and most diplomas can be completed within a year. The amount of time you spend on education will be lessened, allowing you to enter the workforce and reap the benefits sooner. So diploma is the best option for the students who don’t want to invest too much time for study. Greater and Fairer Accessibility Generally, universities do look for specific exam scores for accepting into their courses. There are so many exams in India to take an admission for degree. Scores of these exams are important for students who want to pursue a degree course; on other hand, diploma courses are less reliant on these scores, giving a better chance of being accepted into the course of your choice. Better Pass Rates The student pass rate for diploma courses is more than university courses. In general, most of the degree courses have a theory based syllabus, while diploma is practical based. As a result, the passing rate of diploma students is more than that of degree students. More Experience Experience is the one thing which is of utmost importance in any industry. Diploma holders are exposed to an industry earlier than the degree holders. As a result, they get extra experience than degree holders. Because of the experience, they have a scope of better payment and better growth opportunities in industries. Improved Self Esteem The most important thing about a diploma that makes students stand a little bit straighter and taller is that it boosts their self-esteem and confidence. There’s an extra sense of accomplishment when you complete your diploma. You have accomplished something that no one can ever take away from you. One can lose the physical degree certificate and may move on from the job that your diploma helped you attain, but they will never lose the skillsets that they have. Even when tough times fall, they know they have what it takes to start something and finish it successfully, and that is priceless. Entering the workforce can be difficult, but with the right qualifications, students will be able to easily find a job and utilize their skills. In many cases, a diploma is the best answer: it comes at a fraction of the cost, time and effort, and often better sets students up for their new career. T R Education. Innovation. • 20. n this age of mass production when everything must be Iplanned and designed, design has become the most powerful tool with which man shapes his tools and environments (and, by extension, society and himself)” (Victor Papanekin ‘Design for the Real World’ 2nd ed. ‘Preface’). Design is human-centered, in that, it essentially reflects human needs and wants, as well as the central ideas and artistic, cultural perceptions of the time. The designer, with empathy, is expected to accommodate aesthetic, economic, technological, and commercial constraints and arrive at an appropriate synthesis - in a cumulative process of problem solving, goal orienting, questioning of assumptions, conceptual thinking, planning, decision making and creation. Design as an activity involves a wide spectrum of professions in which architecture, interiors, products, services, and visual communications, all take part, with the overarching intention of enhancing the quality of life while transforming societies. Visual communication design can truly function both as a product and an activity. It is the activity of planning, conceiving, envisaging, and creating visual communications, the implementation of which is via industrial means, and generative of broad-casting particular messages to specific audiences. This is done so as to elicit a response that is inevitably related to the feelings, knowledge, attitudes, and the behavior of audiences as members of a society. A piece of communication design is an ‘object’ created by that activity. Communication design is art, craft, technology and social science as well. It is an art because it grapples with forms and calls for acute awareness of and sensitivity to the visual vocabulary of places and peoples. It is a social science for the very simple reason that it is always aimed at people, and disciplines such as anthropology, sociology, and psychology have much to offer to the creation of effective and appropriate communications. It is a craft because the technology that is deployed requires comprehension that cannot rely exclusively on the automated systems that actualize it. It is a technology because it is always produced via means of industry. Communication design is a sensitive, intellectual and pragmatic discipline, which engages many strata of human activity: sensitivity to the visual domain, awareness of culture, analytical power, sensitivity to difference, flexibility of the mind, lucidity of judgment, technical grasp, and interpersonal skills. In contemporary society, where information is a central, vital commodity, the importance of visual communication design is only limited by the quality of the designers that a society produces. Given the preeminence of visual vocabulary in our cultures in general, and the escalating quantum of visual information in particular, visual communication designers can make meaningful contributions to the effectiveness, clarity, aesthetic, and economic viability of the rapidly expanding flow of information. From print, publications, layout and cover design, packaging, to visual identity design, digital design, branding languages, poster, illustration, advertising design, to way-finding and environmental graphics - visual communication designers can enable this information flow 18 Education. While there have been communicators with good intentions for years aplenty, communications aiming to address social problems were generally conceived with a great deal of naivety – producing ideas with little or no change heralding impact. However, over time, there has been a gradual adoption and adaptation of the experiences of commercial advertising, and that has been effectively put in the service of the public good via socially aware communications. All societies develop, evolve and transform within a permanent flow of information exchange. The urban environment, the public transportation system and the mass media ecology are vital sources of information that both express and build culture in myriad ways. For eg. Advertising seeds cultural models of behavior and appearance, and in turn promotes lifestyles, choices and cultural values. As can be seen, design as a profession has great responsibilities. The aim of communication design is to affect the behavior, knowledge and attitudes of people - something that occurs after the communication takes place. Visual communication design, variously reflects how social roles get defined, how cultural consensus is built, and how a cultural language is constructed within a society. • 24. THESMARTERWAYSTO StudyST FORTHE21 CENTURYSTUDENT Exams have been around for centuries now, so have study tactics and advice; in spite of students considering them as necessary devil. Although latest research shows that the conventional ways and wisdom about how to learn are being disapproved. Education is evolving faster than it has ever before. With this, there is a need to change the ways in which the students learn. While learning and remembering facts and working over piles of notes and books may still be necessary to score high marks, it is, in fact, creative thinking and a deeper understanding of conceptions that assures lasting long-term success and growth. To make the process of preparing for examinations not only more effective, but also more pleasant and less stressful, here are some tips that every 21st-century learner can adapt or follow. Mindset is everything Before attempting to study, you need to make sure you are in the right mindset. It is important that you study for the right reasons. Learning is a joint venture between development and success, and not a hostile takeover or war. Make sure your intent to study is sorted. You need to ask yourself why you want to learn; is it to get an ‘A’ or is it to get admitted to your dream university. 22 Education. Innovation. Success NOWLEDGEREVIEW T H E NOWLEDGEREVIEWMAY | 2018

  • 26. Many people look at studying as a compulsory task, not a pleasure or a prospect to learn. Although being this is reasonable, but scientists have found that how you approach something and mindset matters almost as much as what you do. Mindset is the key factor when it comes to smart study. Although grades and money are essential, if they are your sole intention to learn something, it will keep you from enjoying your studies, and probably also keep you from learning. Attaching an extrinsic reward to any activity significantly reduces the intrinsic joy of the activity. Your performance at a particular task can seriously suffer if you focus on the results of an activity instead of the process. Think positively when you study; and remind yourself of your skills and aptitudes. Always aim at making yourself better at your work. Pace Yourself, Brace Yourself Watch your breath; it helps you calm your mind before you sit down to study. Spending a few minutes focusing on your breath can work wonders in helping you unruffle your mind, and cultivate your attention. Various studies have shown that working on your breath and mind enhances your focus and concentration. Distractions are inevitable; one can only be fully attentive when you have no thoughts, and this can help you achieve your goal. When there is a distraction, a person becomes frustrated and impatient; this is avoidable. Set a timer for yourself about 20 or 25 minutes, and each time you find yourself distracted, try to notice when it has taken place. Then take a few more breaths and get back to work. Practicing mindfulness regularly will eventually allow you to have fewer distractions and will help manage performance anxiety. Being in the right mind, calm, and composed during the exam season allows you to focus on the work at hand. Stressing out during your exam will make you forget what you have learned. To avoid this you need to take a moment and stop working---take a deep breath. 3-5 deep breaths should do the trick. It will help you calm yourself and increase your focus. Mix the New with the Old “Old is gold”, with a slight integration of old studying methods with new, they can work wonders. As technology and ways of learning advance, there is a need for a constant upgrade in study strategies as well. For instance, using an iPad to keep notes or watching a YouTube video to better understand a concept is fine, but it’s crucial to remember that some old-school strategies, like written practice, are timeless. Nothing can beat a paper and pencil when it comes to learning. Another way you should definitely follow is flashcards and quizzing yourself. They help you recollect and eventually remember during the exam. Learning by Way of Technology Our everyday life is surrounded by technology. To go through the day, you need to be tech savvy. Due to the great level of advancements in technology, it has taken over everything, including the classrooms. Recent studies show that integration of technology into the student’s life can benefit a great deal. Technology helps build up greater networks with people, growing content further than ever before, and allows you to create new ideas. Technology brings student closer to their dreams and helps prepare them for their future careers. It provides the opportunity to students to improve the communication with their classmates and instructors by promoting collaboration. Further, it helps student access up to date information easily and quickly. Applying new technology like VR to a traditional classroom set up, can boost the learning experience and create new prospects. Old ways together with new strategies can surely help you excel in your exam, succeed in life, and help you become a smart learner. When you study, rather than the quest to achieve good grades or admission to college, engage in the process of learning itself. Follow your breath, it is only through breathing that you will be able to return to the present moment, which will activate your body’s calming response. This will allow you to think more clearly and rationally. Use technology; it empowers you to be more creative, connected, and to explore new opportunities. Try blending these ways in your schedule while studying and remember to work on your mindset; it will help build up your attention and filter out distractions. Good luck! T R 24 Education. • 28. Introduction The real and practical experiences received by the people with help of games, sports, arts, literary, culture, etc are known as co-curricular activities earlier known as Extra- curricular Activities. To a greater extent, the theoretical knowledge gets strengthened and supplemented with relevant co-curricular activities related to the content taught in the classroom. Academic aspects of personality are solely accomplished by classroom, while aesthetic development, character building, spiritual growth, physical growth, moral values, creativity, etc. are supported by co-curricular activities. The execution of academic contents like frankness and clarity in language, creativity and innovation, and overall personality development is supported by co- curricular activities. It helps to develop co-ordination, adjustment, speech fluency, extempore expressions, etc. among students both at the college as well as in the society. Role of Co-curricular Activities in Student’s Life Besides academics, co-curricular and extra co-curricular activities play instrumental role in shaping and making overall growth and development of human mind. No doubt, one should primarily focus on academic activities to learn and excel the scholarly qualities. However, it is extra co- curricular activities like sports, games, art and culture, etc that provide a good platform for a child/student to outshine his/her latent potentials to compete with the challenges that come on his/her way. In fact, it enables the children/students to enter into the unopened doors of their lives and become wise enough to go on the ways of the world. The co-curricular activities such as their participation in group activities like debates, quizzes, group discussion, essay completions, brain storming sessions, their interaction with peer groups, etc. make them learn practically and enter into the real life challenges and overcome them by their knowledge and competence. The co-curricular activities facilitate in the multi-facets development of various domains of mind and personality such as intellectual development, emotional development, social development, moral development and aesthetic development. Creativity, enthusiasm, energetic, and positive thinking are some of the important outcomes of the personality development achieved by co-curricular activities. Acquisition of knowledge is not limited to what are in books and other sources of literature. Rather knowledge is based on what one learns through the experiences of one’s real life. There are many human beings suffering from many problems which are more psychological than physical. Contentment in life rests on the mental satisfaction that varies from person to person and society to society. A great Indian poet Kabeer had knowledge in himself yet he needed interaction with such a mentor who can enlighten him. Therefore he went to seek the shelter of his guru Ramanand. The world knows well who Kabeer is today. Importance and Benefits of Co-curricular Activities • It brings healthy competition amongst the students. • The overall career of student shines and the leadership qualities grows in the students. • It empowers and helps the students to express themselves freely. • These activities help the students not only to be wise but also be fit and energetic in their lives. It also inculcates the values to respect other’s view and feeling. • The student gets exposure to organize activity, to develop skills, to co-operate and co-ordinate in different situations. It also provides ample opportunity for self-identification and self-assessment in different situations and circumstances. • It provides sufficient skill how to behave and manage the situation when they are in contact with organizers, fellow participants, teachers, and people outside the school 26 Education. • 29. during cultural activity. • It develops a sense of belongingness and it becomes very important in decision making situations • It enhances the interest in the academics. Role of Academic Institutions in Organising Co-curricular Activities If an institution does not promote the extra-curricular and Co-curricular activities in proper direction, students might probably go into a situation where they will find chaos with no fruitful outcome. Therefore, the extra-curricular and Co-curricular activities should not only be promoted by the institution but suitable mentors should be provided for the same. From level of school to the university, the teachers have great role to enrich their student in all respect through Co-curricular activities. Although the role of teachers in the overall personality development of student is almost unlimited even some of them are listed below: • The institute/university must plan the different activities to be carried out systematically throughout the year without much disturbance of academic. • The concerned faculty member should provide sufficient opportunity to their students to perform Co-curricular activities without any stress. • The institute should introduce some innovative programmes and encourage the students to effectively participate. Conclusion The academic institutions in their curriculum provide the co-curricular activities for development of the right brain. These facilitate skills of listening, language, fine and gross motor activity, discipline and expression, patience and leadership; all the while reaching the inner core of all that is fine about the human being. The virtues hidden in the inner cores of students can be explored with the help of co- curricular activities. It also helps the students being in the expression and active manifestation of their noble tendencies like, humility, continence, service, generosity, benevolence, ethics, moral, etc. It is also helpful for the natural reflections of basic instincts that found the basis of evolution of character of human being. The students can make worth use of their immense potential and available opportunities and resources only with the active participation in the co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. Prof S. • 33. there are issues related to technology and internet connectivity, problems with proper implementation of flipped classrooms may also emerge. Problems with Organization Implementing flipped classrooms for the first time will require a lot of management and organizing. Teachers will have to introduce an entirely new and different concept of flipped classes to the students. This process may take some time as the students have to transition from a more passive form of learning to an active form of learning. Lack of Motivation Students should always be motivated to complete their homework, study properly, and be prepared for the class. If they don t, they would be easily’ distracted by other things. Teachers should provide the basic and necessary knowledge to the students in the classroom. Otherwise, it will be difficult for the students to delve deeper into the subject matter by using flipped learning tools. Teachers should motivate the students to complete their assignments and homework; otherwise the implementation of flipped classrooms will be useless. Flipped Classrooms are not for Every Student Flipped classroom is an innovative and unique concept in the field of education. It shifts from the track of traditional education system and introduces modern and interactive teaching–learning techniques. Flipped classrooms require a lot of self-discipline. Many students may be accustomed to the traditional teaching–learning procedure, and may find it difficult to cope with flipped classroom techniques. Flipped classrooms come along with a mixed bag of advantages and disadvantages. The question still stays, whether its advantages will outweigh its disadvantages? For using flipped classes to their advantage, teachers and parents will have to cooperate and motivate the students to study and do a lot of work by themselves at home. Parents should support and cooperate with the students, and help them in properly utilizing flipped learning tools. They should try to solve their child's doubts and queries related to their studies. Flipped classroom is a major step towards an educational revolution. Though this method may not be that successful in elementary school, but can be efficiently utilized for college and university level education. If utilized resourcefully, flipped learning can help students to delve deeper into learning materials and assist them where needed. Better Preparation for Teachers and Students Teachers can use flipped learning tools to improve the teaching–learning process. Students can use these tools to properly complete their homework and other related assignments. Moreover, flipped learning tools assist teachers in tracking students progress’ and viewing their results. It helps the teachers in assessing the strengths and weaknesses of students, so that they can take necessary steps accordingly for the improvement of the students. Furthermore, it helps teachers to identify errors in thinking or concept application. Recycling and Reusing Lectures Flipped learning tools provide the option of reusing the prepared lectures and sessions. Students can reuse the lecture sessions as per their convenience. Moreover, teachers can prepare digital lectures which can be reused for the next year. The Advantage of Transparency Flipped classes also provide the advantage of transparency. Parents can take a look at their children’s video lectures as per their convenience. In case children don’t understand a concept, parents can take help of flipped learning tools to explain and help them. The Disadvantages of Flipped Classrooms Issues Related to Technology Flipped classes depend on proper internet access and connectivity. If Technological Revolution T R Education. Innovation. Capable individuals who can turn their talent into stream of managerial benefit for the company can outrage their potential by pursuing diploma in this field. • Financial Planner- Having adequate communication skill and interpersonal tricks with financial knowledge can beneficiate a student to see his career as a financial planner. Molding a company's budget plans, investment schemes and saving fissures can be his platform to show his talent. For this field, a new section of diploma in finance management has opened and is being widely chosen by students. • Diploma in Risk and Insurance management - When businesses are expanding globally, a horde of opportunities is springing up, requiring this field to be covered more by risk management techniques such as insurance. The current insurance market yearning at 77000 crore is expected to stir up at 17% per announce companies. Many big businesses have joined hands with insurance companies to provide material for financial risk. A great demand has surged up for trained and skilled professionals who can access this field. This owes to be the key reason why the course of diploma in risk and insurance management is gaining popularity. Expansion of Idea and Unprecedented Challenges Accounting back from days of independence in the late 1940s, India was having a total of 53 polytechnic institutes which had acceptance rate of 4000 students. But now ushering a new era in 2018, we have a more than 800 government and private polytechnic institutes which accept and intakes more than 600,000 students yearly. However there are many challenges to this expanding idea due to new technology phase and lack of addressors for the same. A)High Technology in Utilization of Engineering Skills Everywhere high technology is pacing up the ace of students whether applied theoretically or practically. However, installment of required techs involves a huge amount of expenditure which is to be managed by college trust. This results in increase in college fees and course, expensing at the cost of financially suffering students. Nevertheless, if new technology implementation is denied, then it results in the loss of students as it affects their learning culture. B)Training and Assessment of Teachers The Research and Development Team at Faculty board sometimes fails to be updated. Appraisals and trainings at which teachers are patronized tend to be satisfactory but delivering excellent performance every time while teaching the students is something one needs to focus upon. A lack of attention in this field has started to question the quality of education being imparted to students. Another curriculum of exchanging faculties sometimes proves out to be not so consoling as there a is difference in student-teacher management at colleges. A Dawn to Face Diploma Challenges Various methods of improvisation have emerged to tackle the mentioned issues which to a great extent have colonized the effects on students as well as teachers. An increase in amount of funding by government for installation of upgraded resources lies as a measure to break the financial constraints on students. More insights for fighting challenges in this endeavor include increased support for instructors and teachers in a pedagogical way. However, in some institutes it has proved out that students designing their own program and policies is also an effective way to tackle gaps between management and students body. In this changing era of dynamic development, every institute aims to be the best for each of its students through its courses. Students can also reap the same by being passionate. In other words, one can quote the spirit of Anthony D’ j Angelo for any learner. “Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow”. T R 38 Education. Innovation.
