Multiplexing combines multiple analog or digital signals for transmission through a single communication line. It allows different types of data like photos, videos, and tweets to be sent over a single network line. There are three main types of multiplexing: frequency division multiplexing, time division multiplexing, and wavelength division multiplexing. De-multiplexing is the process of separating the individual signals at the receiving end by examining socket information and passing data to the correct application.

6. Frequency Division Multiplexing
FDM assigns a discrete carrier frequency to each data stream and then
combines many modulated carrier frequencies for transmission. (it is done
repeatedly)
For example, television transmitters use FDM to broadcast several channels
at once.

7. Time Division Multiplexing
Time Division Multiplexing combines data streams by assigning each stream
a different time slot in a set. TDM repeatedly transmits a fixed sequence of
time slots over a single transmission channel.
