2. • Created an annual auditing process for the purpose of evaluating performance, and compliance with DOH regulations. The
audit intercepted significant potential violations in 2016 & 2018, saving SCOL tens of thousands of dollars in fines and
preventing a shift from long-standing inspection excellence.
• Established a Pay Grade Structure by position and skill level, based on market research, including progressive pay
increases, descriptive grades/levels, basic qualifying criteria for each grade, and evaluative creative based on merit. This
tool enabled SCOL to keep up with NYS’s increasing minimum wage and therefore remain competitive in the marketplace.
• Developed and implemented research-based Self-Evaluations and Employee-Evaluations of managers’ leadership
competencies. Managers reported identifying strengths and weaknesses and began setting personal goals. Within 6
months, lacking competencies began to improve, and one manager was re-assigned to a different role because SCOL
identified a lack of leadership skills despite additional training.
• Designed and executed SCOL first ever Non-Smoking Policy in February 2014 by which the organization and its campus
became a Smoke Free. This policy resulted in three employees quitting or reducing their smoking habits in the first two
years. In addition, SCOL resident families expressed approval at this health-conscious decision and SCOL had another
marketing highlight. Employee breaks were reduced to NY’s mandatory lunch and break every four hours.
• Developed a Strengths Based Employee Evaluation in 2015, the first of its kind for SCOL, to harness and emphasize
employees’ positive attributes and encourage individual coaching and engagement and improved retention rates. This tool
became useful with three challenging employees within its first year of application, giving them opportunity to improve
performance and behaviors. It also served as a teaching tool for the newly assigned team managers.
