1. Finding a good job abroad is a process that takes much time and
effort, so you should prepare to face difficulties and be patient. It
makes sense to start looking for a job well in advance, as the job
market in Finland is relatively small, especially outside the capi-
tal area. If you are looking for long-term employment in Finland,
these tips are for you:

Make sure that your CV is created in European format (e.g.
Europass CV) and that it is up-to-date. It is good to have a
full CV version, with all your working experience and skills,
but remember to modify your CV for every job application:
keep it short and informative, without irrelevant information.
Create a profile in LinkedIn and keep it updated. It is also
possible to search for open positions on this site.
Register at online employment agencies and open positions
boards, e.g. Barona, Monster, Jobsteps etc. to receive email
notifications about open positions that will suit your skills
and experience.
Visit mol.fi. It is the official site of the Finnish Employment
and Economic Development Office, which provides a job
board that is updated almost daily. If you are staying in Fin-
land for a long time (e.g. due to family) and if you are en-
titled to social benefits in Finland, visit their office so that
they will add you to the database of unemployed jobseekers
after a short interview and offer you suitable positions if they
appear.
If you are unemployed in Finland, you might be entitled to
get some financial support while you are looking for a job.
Check www.kela.fi or visit their local office.

2. Tell everyone you are looking for a job:
you never know who can help you.
Unemployed in Finland
Join Facebook groups, e.g. Work in Finland, Helsinki Jobs
for Expats, or Jobs in Finland. Be active and check the up-
dates frequently, many people are actively searching for a
job!
Remember that most of the companies do not announce
their open positions on the job boards and have their own
“Open positions” pages. Visit the sites of the companies in
your industry.
Don’t forget about the hidden labour market! Sometimes the
vacancies are not announced at all, so it might be a good
idea to send out open applications to the companies you
would like to work for.
When applying for a job, do not underestimate the impor-
tance of the application letter; sometimes it can be more im-
portant than your CV!
