Learn how to craft an engaging opening film sequence
1. This question helps me
as it shows that the
majority of the people
who voted chose the
title to be at the end,
closely followed by at
the beginning. No one
voted for the title to be
in the middle of the
opening sequence. This
could be because it
makes it unclear as to
when the opening
sequence ends or
people may not
remember the title as
well if its amongst lots of
other things as it doesn’t
make as much as a
statement.
2. Most people thought
the action genre was
their favourite genre,
followed by coming of
age being the second
best and horror the
worst, meaning my
opening sequence is
most likely going to
include action
elements.
3. Here we see that the high angle shots and a close up shots are
favourites for making someone look vulnerable. I may use both of
these in my opening sequence or possibly combine the two to try and
make my character look especially vulnerable.
4. Most peoples favourite
film out of the three is
21 jump street followed
by Superbad, however
no ones favourite was
easy A. This is because
21 Jump street is more
of an action
blockbuster and most
likely had more
distribution from its
producers.
5. This question was
important because It lets
me know what films I
should take my inspiration
from. Many of these films
contain lots of humor so I
may consider using this in
my opening sequence. This
element entices audiences.
A lot of these films also
have memorable opening
sequences. For example
Superbad’s is unique and
unforgettable. I am aiming
to create an opening
sequence that would be a
highlight of a film.
6. This question has
mixed responses.
Some said they
would like narrative
hints whilst others
disagree. All
opening sequences
reveal a different
amount of the
narrative so this
may be why there is
a mixed response. I
will aim to give the
audience some
hints to the story to
keep them
intrigued.
