1. Presenting research findings
Before I started to make my film trailer I have done someresearch on the
genre I have chosen which is ‘Action’. The research I havedone is very helpful
towards the film trailer I will be making, this also helped me understand the
codes and conventions of an action film trailer, which will later on be usefulto
my own movie trailer. To find whatwas relevant or not I used conventions of
an action trailer and then compared it with another genre which was comedy.
All the research I have done will help me in some way to create my own film
trailer.
My main research method for my finding is secondary data as I have used the
internet for my research. The internet is a very reliable sourcethe gather the
information from and it can also be done very quickly. That is one of the main
reasons I haveused the internet over going to the library and gathering
information. FurthermoreI will be doing some primary research as I have
made a questionnaire to ask people my age group whatthey like/think about
movie trailers.
My research has all been posted on an online blog, which will allow me to look
it up whenever I need to look up a bit of research. Throughoutmy research I
have learnt I have learnt that further down the line you will need some
research information to help me.
Firstly, the genre I have chosen is Action, the locations shown in action trailers
for my specific sub-genrearekind of everywheredepends whatkind of action
movie it will be if it is a car type of action movie the location will tend to be
more towards racing tracks or motorways they can sometimes tend to be
shooting scenes. Action trailers havedifferent types of locations mostly it will
include driving, shooting and fighting. This is because this stuff of activities in
the movies brings the tension and that’s what makes it an action movie. The
locations I havesaid have been a main factor of action movies in the past
years.
Secondly, after spending a considerably amountof time watching action movie
trailers I havefound out that the majority of the action trailers tend to have
something down the line of Going after someonethat hurttheir family or
friend or could be looking for a family member, in this case the movie ‘Fastand
2. the Furious 6’ the narrative is that they are living happy after a bank heist they
have done after a unexpected person comes to the door and feeds him
information about one of his loved ones. In action movie trailers the rhythm
will mostly be a group of people having fun then the whole topic will change to
a fast paced music and shooting or very fastcars will be shown or even
someone running. In trailers they do not do it in chronologicalorder because
that will ruin the movie for the audience, trailers always do it in different clips
fromthe movie not to ruin the movie for the audience. They will normally end
the trailer in a dramatic way to grab the audience’s attention to go and watch
the movie.
Thirdly, the age rating on action movies tend to be from 12+or in somecases
15+. Therefor the target audience is aimed at anyone fromthe ages above 12+
as action movies are enjoyablefor everyoneabovethe age of 12 years, action
movies are aimed at both types of gender but in some cases the movie could
be aimed at the male gender as it could be moreof a men’s type of movie
which includes violence, guns, shooting. Because socialmedia is a very big part
of this society nowadays and action movies are mostly aimed at young adults
they are most likely to hear about them on the internet e.g. YouTube, twitter
or even Facebook. With the social media sites people can discuss the trailer the
most common one people useto interact with people is Facebook fan pages
were people express their feelings about the movie. Another way people can
express their view on the movie trailer could be on the YouTube comments;
the comments people say are mostly their opinions on what they could fix or
add to the movie.
Music and sound is a very important aspect in movie trailers, music and sound
is a key factor in horror trailers but they are still usefulin action trailers. The
music sets the mood of films and can make the audience’s tension build whilst
it is a nail biting moment. The music tends to go along what is going on in the
trailer e.g. if it is a car chasethe music will be fastpaced or if it is a scene
wherepeople are justsitting around drinking talking the music will be slow and
you will not tend to hear the music as much in the trailers.
3. I have done someprimary research;I put together a useful questionnaireand I
have handed it out to people that are fromthe age rangefrom12- 17 I have
asked that age group becauseit fits the age rating for my film trailer.
Finally I would say that all my research will help me create my film trailer. I
have discussed whatwas helpful; whenever I am stuck I could look back at my
research to help me which is a very good feature to have whilstdoing this
course.
