2. Whatdoyou
likeaboutthe
trailer?
This chart shows that most people said that they liked the soundtrack, pace and the end shot.
These are all key things when creating a trailer for a thriller film because they are what the
audience will take notice of the most, especially the end shot as this is what they will
remember the most as it is the last thing they see. Therefore, I think that in terms of audience
feedback, my trailer is successful in the key areas.
3. Whatdoyou
NOTlikeabout
thetrailer?
This chart shows the thing the audience disliked the most was the lighting. This is understandable as low key
lighting would have been more effective but I had to use high key and natural lighting for extraneous reasons
such as actor availability. The soundtrack was also the most liked aspect of the trailer so this data slightly
contradicts itself. On the whole, it tends to be the conventional things that I challenged that the audience pay
attention to the most and according to this and the previous chart, the audience have mixed reviews on my
choices.
4. What would you
changeabout the
trailer?
Would have more dialogue
Have more short duration shots
Have chase scene at night
Have more flashbacks and perhaps put an effect on them
to make it clear that they are flashbacks
These are some of the things that the audience said that
they would change. It is mainly the things they said they
disliked and each of these things are things that the
audience would recognise as conventional to thriller trailers
which suggests that the audience are perhaps uncomfortable
with something slightly different. These things would have
all added more tension to my trailer which would be
important so each of these suggestions are fair and would
improve my trailer in terms of the intended effect.
5. Doesthetrailer
makethegenre
andnarrative
clear? The majority felt like the narrative and genre were clear. I could understand
the narrative not being clear as I found it difficult to choose shots that could
indicate the narrative without giving too much away. I think that this is a
common problem with crime thrillers because it is so important to not give
the audience to much information otherwise they will work it out straight
away. Also, I chose a quite complex narrative so it would take a lot of
attention to detail and a sophisticated thought process to understand it.
6. Arethecharacters
represented in an
appealing way?
Approximately 90% of the audience felt as though the characters were
appealing and those that filled in the questionnaire with me said that it was
because Chris was represented in a slightly unclear way and they were
unsure what his role was. This was almost my intention as I wanted the
audience to question who he was and why he was there but I tried to
represent him as the ‘false villain’ which was obviously not clear to
everyone that has seen my trailer.
