From these questionnaires I was able to find that most of my
audience was male and this shows me that I have more of a
male audience to appeal to when going off what they say in
the rest of the questionnaire. From the second question I am
able to tell that the majority of people prefer eerie films rather
or like them at least and this shows me that since I want my
short film to be eerie I have an audience to appeal to on this
one which is very good. The third question shows that the
majority of people do not want a complex plotline but more
action or eerie jump scares instead which I feel I can appeal to
them on.
In the first question on this page I was able to see in detailed response
what they thought of detailed plotlines and It is clear that some people felt
it didn’t matter if it was or wasn’t a complex plotline and some people felt
it did and it should be because its more interesting that way. In the next
question I asked if there should be jump scares in a horror film and all
answered with yes but there where some that answered with lots of them
and some that answered with a few which shows that I have a mixed
audience when it comes to jump scares in how many they want but I have
an audience that defiantly wants them. In this next question I asked if the
antagonist should be shown and the reason for this is because sometimes
the main villain is shown in horrors but sometimes its not so its down to
preference and so I feel this answer of more people wanting it to be
shown but a close people not wanting it shows the mix of preference.
The first question on this page shows that
people have mixed opinions on what short
films or my short film should focus on and the
majority of them want a mix of both so they
can enjoy both and I also feel that’s the better
option but some people wanted it to focus on
jump scares and not plot and some wanted
plot and jump scares. The final question was
should it be set in one place or multiple, the
reason that I ask this question is because
some people don’t like it when it moves to
different locations in short films they feel its
trying to fit to much in when there little time
and prefer it in one place where as some
people prefer it in multiple places rather then
seeing it one place. The responses again
where very mixed however the majority
wanted it in one place and since I intend to film
it in one place this does seem like my best bet.
 Viewing figures for horror/thriller short
films
1. The follower, rated 10 star on imdb has a
viewing figure of 300,000 from its initial
release which is a high number for a
short film thriller.
2. Sacrifice, which came out in 2014
viewing figure of 260,000 and is also a 10
star on imdb.
3. The passport, rated 10 star on imdb 15
minutes long mystery film that had a
viewing figure of 240,000.
4. Jonestown, short film rated a 9.8 stars on
imdb released in 2017 with a viewing
figure of 180,000.
5. Infirmity, came out in 2016 has a 9.8
stars on imdb and has a viewing figure of
160,000.
Observation : this shows me that there is a
large audience to appeal to in the thriller side
short films and ones with good story's can get
really good ratings overall.
Demographic
The demographic of the short film that I am
going for is thriller short films and the
demographic of short films for thrillers are a
audience that are interested in finding a thrill
in a good plot that they can relate to and be
in suspense. The demographic for horror are
looking for something dark and
Phycographic
The phycographic that I am going to be
going for is one that is mainly concerned
with the eerie type of movie and the this
would make them a phycographic that like
to be freaked out and I feel that this is a
good way to aim at because a lot of people
or wide range have this phycographic and
so aiming it at them would be in my opinion
a good choice.
 This article basically states about how they made a short film to put on iTunes
to sell and make some money the film in question is one called gone fishing
and essentially the film did quite well and sold a few copies made, in this
article he basically said that his selling figure is $369.89 and that is after he
has had 20% taken off it. It indicates that there is money to be made from
short films. A lot of money if your lucky even if you only sell a few copies but
the article goes on to say that after he got a company that works with iTunes
to push the short film but this lead to a further 50% reduction in what money
he made and by the end of all the money being taken the creator is left with
$147.95 after 6 months of selling and this is bad because it shows that
companies take something that you spent time and effort creating and take
70% of what you should have earned just for using there service. This article
shows that there are ways to get boosts on advertisements and the sales
figures to increase.
 Primary research summary
in my primary research I was able to create a
survey and get responses from the survey and this
in tern helped me to come up with the different
ways to take my project, it is clear from the survey
that they want there to be more of a story in the
short film and I intend to give this t my primary
audience by making sure that they can get some
type of story happening in the short film so that it
isn’t just plain and boring. The survey also showed
me that they wanted a relatable character which is
why my main protagonist is going to be an average
person, this way everyone will be able to relate to
them in some way. The survey also showed me that
they wanted eerie scenes and so I intend to add
these in to the best of my ability. The survey also
showed that they wanted a horror dynamic tone and
this tells me that my audience is are into dark toned
movies for short films which works well with the end
project that I want to create. The survey also
showed that the majority of people of want to see
an actual resolved ending so I feel that this can be
easily done with the plot point to my story so the
short film will actually have an ending in the end.
The majority of people from the survey actually
want there to be a morale to the story I feel I can
present that.
Secondary research summary
For primary research I looked closely at the viewing
figures for successful short films and the reason for
this is because I wanted to see how short films that
have done really well get for viewings and the
overall result showed me that they can range from
anywhere from 300,000 people all the way down to
100,000 which is a big audience for a short film in
one time and so I feel that this opens up many
possible doors to what can be done of course all
these short films had advertisements and places to
show that but what it did give me the ability to do is
which theses short films and see how they have
been put together and from then I was able to see
how I could make mine and the different shots I
could use which would be helpful and I think that
overall this part of secondary research turned out to
be very useful. On the second part of the research I
looked at the money that you can make from them
on this I wanted to go more realistic say selling 30
something copies of a film and I found an article
that walked me through that showed me what can
be made. Then I looked at the phycographic and
demographic and how it could link in to my work.
Demographic Phycographic Social status Gender
The demographic that I am
going for with this the
demographic is going to be a
mix between thriller and horror
the reason for this is because
these two demographics
normally fit together very well
and so I wanted to have them
like this for mine as my one will
be a mix between horror and
thriller.
The Phycographic that I m
going for is somebody that
is interested in the idea of
thrillers and horror movies
someone who is freaked out
easily by concepts that
have creepy aspics as this
is the type of phycographic
that are interested in the
plot to things and so I feel
this is a good place to aim
my project at.
I feel that the concept will
be relatable to the middle
class, the project will be
watchable by all but mainly
relatable to the middle
class. As such I feel it will
sway towards that general
audience just because of
the base and setting of the
project.
This will aim at the gender
for male and female excuse
its more plotline but it would
be more relatable to have it
aimed at mail as the main
character of this short film
will be a male.
 BBFC expected age rating
I feel that the age rating for this will be a 12 and the reason for this is because there will be no offensive material included in this at all
and will be a clean from any bad language as there will only be music and sound affect t in the movie which is a good way to ensure
that my work is done to these guidelines. It will not include any offensive material to do with gender or stereo types from race or culture.
there will be no violence in this film this means it cant get put up to a higher age rating as the age rating for it would be a 12is because
the story would be complicated an difficult to understand and I would only expect an adult or teenager to understand what the story
behind it and the Morales so it would be more of a adult film but it wouldn’t brake any of the BBFC age rating guidelines.
Appropriate content
I would not define sexual activity or nudity to be appropriate in this type of short film and that is why there will be nothing like that
included. Lots of bad language I would not expect in it at this time which is why there will be no explicit language included plus I couldn’t
anyway because there will be no dialogue in the movie as everything has to be visually shown. I would also consider violence
inappropriate for this film as in terms of physical bloody gore violence not necessarily violent acts within the short film.
Audience appeal
People have different tastes when it comes to films and my audience appeal is going to be aimed at people that are much more
interested in story and character development then people that cant sit through a story and are only interested in seeing action scenes
as there will be no action in this movie it will be just hopefully eeriness and spookiness.
 Research potential production techniques you might want to use
or feel would be most appropriate – these can be related to
camera, editing, story, sound, etc
 You should look at a minimum of 3 related products in your
research.
 You should collect clips/still images/how to guides/etc that might
help you. When watching scenes from films, etc you could also
ask potential target audience what they think.
 You will need to add extra slides!
 With each technique you should assess whether you can use it or
how you might employ or why you may want to disregard it
completely
Batman v superman dawn of
justice
This film is one that I chose to be similar to because of the
tone this film takes with its camera movement and how
each seen fits really well in with one another, it uses so
many different techniques to present itself and is mainly
set with a dark tone and I feel that it is important to try and
do this style with my film because if I was able to pull off
what Zack Snyder could then visually it would look
amazing. This film is very dark toned and it uses these
dark tones to set every scene stand out visuals on this
movie is how it uses the weather, mainly always at night
and rarely in the day, it uses rain to make sad scenes and
also great combat scenes, there are few action scenes in
this movie it focuses more on dialogue and story which is
what I personally prefer from a film. The posters and
trailers of the film show various different scenes within it
and when it does this it provides people with the different
type of content that will be included in the movie and from
this they appeal to target audience. The very film itself
appeals to the target audience of fans because its based
of the graphic novel of the dark knight returns which fans
love and the batman in this is portrayed perfectly from the
novel as well as the fight scene between batman and
superman, as a batman fan it was amazing to watch and
enjoy and definitely delivered fan service despite what
critics say but given they haven't read the comics or know
the fanbase they cant exactly judge on correct merits a lot
of the reviews don’t even explain why its bad one said
“because its to dark” since when does that make a film
bad that’s just personal preference.
This film poster uses the use of the colour blue a lot and
goes for a very retro style of font as it is based of a book full
of 80s trivia. The poster features the main character on the
front climbing up towards the egg in the background I see
this as imagery of him in the film climbing his way up to the
main egg and winning the challenge. The egg is built into
the clouds this poster represent the movie well because of
the symbolism around it. The ready player one trailer uses
the same type of retro theme using 80s style while packed
with 80s music like take on me and jump which have a
remixed sound to them so it really fits into the trailer
amazingly well. The film itself uses lots of 80s trivia in the
virtual world the story is of a guy called wade watts who
was named that because it sounded like a superhero and
he is obsessed with creator of the oasis (virtual world) who
is James Halliday and in order to find the egg he learnt
everything about him that he could. The film contains
references to different games and movies and one movie
that has a lot of references is that he drives the DeLorean
from back to the future as his car choice and it plays the
back to the future music a lot within this film. The tone of
the film is mainly happy and jolly even thought depressing
things are happening this is contradicting the tone but for
once it works really well. Things from this title that I would
take into my own are the fact that it has a blue colour
scheme which represent safety I would like to include that
as my main colour scheme at the end of it, although mine
will be a horror thriller I want to add in this type of tone as it
brightens the mood of the film a bit which is always nice.
Insidious is a horror/ thriller film that is
renowned for its music, the music uses a very
loud sinister sound which I feel is the best way
to describe it and I feel that the overall layout of
the film is amazingly done having scenes that
all link together at the end and in the next film
this type of structure is both chronological and
non chronological and I feel for a film like this to
have this is a really nice touch as it brings
something new to the horror franchise taking a
massive focus on story rather then just bad
things happening to people including great
actors for the scenes and making a soundtrack
that is extremely memorable. These films are re
watchable and great to watch each time which
is something you cant say for many horror films,
and if you watch one then you have to watch
them all because they link together so well.
Because they give the villain in the second one
a backstory it has so much more impact when it
starts attacking the main characters and then
that links back to the first one scene by scene,
things I would take from this and put into my
own work a soundtrack just like it for the eerie
scenes.
EXPERIMENTS
Camera/Editing/Audio Experiments
Be prepared to add extra slides
 For the filming me and my group got together and thought
about what we could make with the camera and we decided
to have a main character walk up the stairs and turn to a
corridor, when he looked through the corridor he sees
himself walking by the corridor and he would be confused
and then walk and look about only to see more of him
walking, this would be the end. The point was not to make a
compelling story more to just play with the camera and get
sued to the feel of it. We created a shot list for what we
wanted on a piece of paper and also a story board. To start
with we opened up wit a panning shot of the room we filmed
this 3 times to try and get the best one each time adjusting
and fixing the settings so there was less blur to the camera
then we followed the camera around with a tracking shot of
Connor wiffem walking from down the stairs to up the stairs.
And then a zoom in shot of Connors face followed by a
medium shot of the door, this was an interesting process to
complete and it took time. We used a tripod for a lot of shots
and hand held for a few and we rented out the camera for a
couple of hours to get the footage but we only filmed for a
round about 30 minutes of having the camera as we spent
the other hour and 30 minutes completing the planning.
 What elements of your experiments will you include in your final
product?
 The different shot types in my experiments I practiced doing them and
including a variety but the main focus was making sure that all of the
shot types linked together well and looked good and nothing was to
much or to hard so it didn’t corollate very well. I will use the exact
same equipment in my work, a tripod and a camera with a spare
battery and Sd card, however the story will be very different the way it
is set up will also be very different and the actors that take part in the
film will also be very different in the final project.
 For the editing I used adobe premier to put all of the footage
together when putting it together I created different folders
one for audio and one for footage as well spare footage and
discard footage just in case I need to go back and get
something I got rid of for some reason. I then moved
everything into the editing software and began to edit the
footage cutting out bits I don’t need shortening it down, then
adding affects to it. I used the cut tool a lot and also the
effect tool to change the position of certain images and turn
it around rotating it to make it look more strange just having
a playa round with it. I then added in the audio when
everything was up to scratch. I added the audio in going
through the video and picking out the parts where a door
slams or there are footsteps making sure all the sound
affects are correct and on the right spot by zooming into the
footage and making sure everything was exact by the
second it came on, this took some movement and messing
about but eventually I got everything timed and then all I
needed to do was add in the music track over it and then it
was fully complete.
 What elements of your experiments will you include in your final
product?
 I would organise it exactly the same In how I did the experiment
and then I would make sure that the audio was recorded the
same way and added into it the exact same as it was before.
Would add in the audio the same way I would however change up
the tools and make it more proficient to the task. I would use the
zoom in affect.
 For the audio I needed to book out an audio device. I used
this audio device to record different sounds. The first sound
that I recorded was footsteps and to do this I recorded
someone stamping there foot as they walked and then I
followed them with this audio device and from there we wen
outside collecting different sounds from outside an example of
this collecting the sound of the wind. We also got the sound of
cars even though there wouldn’t be any cars in the video but
we thought to get a variety of different sounds so there was a
lot to choose from, we also got a audio recordings of door
opening and closing and this I feel worked well with the
overall complete experiment. I then used garage band to
create a music track to follow through the experiments.
 What elements of your experiments will you include in your final
product?
 I will do the exact same thing that I did throughout this project for
my project, I feel that it is important to collect my own sound
affects and use them using the audio equipment. I feel this
experiment was very helpful for practice for the project. In my final
project I am going to use garage band to create my music, it is
disappointing that I can only use certain instruments but I'm sure
that I will be able to use more on it, but I'm sure I can create a
decent enough track to short film.
 List all the potential constraints that might affect or limit your production, you should
consider issues from each of these categories:
 Time/Personnel/Cost/Technical/Location/Organisational
 Time will limit what I can do as of now I have 3 weeks to complete the project and in
this time I will struggle to get the pre production, production reflection, production and
also the evaluation done within the next 3 weeks its really not much time as well as
weather conditions on the dates of productions preventing me from getting in to college
I will find it difficult to do such a big project in such little time. The people I am relying on
will also cause me large constraint as if they cant make it to filming it can have a
massive impact on my already limited timing so relying on people may prove difficult.
The technical side of things such as computers on programs not working or my save
files been corrupted can slow me down a great deal and set me behind setting
constraints on my production. The place I want to film my short film I might be able to
get to on the day or may not be allowed to film there which could ruin the initial plan of
filming the short film and set me behind if that where to happen so I will have check
before I film it. If I am not organised in making sure I have all the equipment and I don’t
organise the cast and crew my short film could also fall flat which I really don’t want to
happen.

2. research sf 2017 [autosaved]

  • 2. From these questionnaires I was able to find that most of my audience was male and this shows me that I have more of a male audience to appeal to when going off what they say in the rest of the questionnaire. From the second question I am able to tell that the majority of people prefer eerie films rather or like them at least and this shows me that since I want my short film to be eerie I have an audience to appeal to on this one which is very good. The third question shows that the majority of people do not want a complex plotline but more action or eerie jump scares instead which I feel I can appeal to them on.
  • 3. In the first question on this page I was able to see in detailed response what they thought of detailed plotlines and It is clear that some people felt it didn’t matter if it was or wasn’t a complex plotline and some people felt it did and it should be because its more interesting that way. In the next question I asked if there should be jump scares in a horror film and all answered with yes but there where some that answered with lots of them and some that answered with a few which shows that I have a mixed audience when it comes to jump scares in how many they want but I have an audience that defiantly wants them. In this next question I asked if the antagonist should be shown and the reason for this is because sometimes the main villain is shown in horrors but sometimes its not so its down to preference and so I feel this answer of more people wanting it to be shown but a close people not wanting it shows the mix of preference.
  • 4. The first question on this page shows that people have mixed opinions on what short films or my short film should focus on and the majority of them want a mix of both so they can enjoy both and I also feel that’s the better option but some people wanted it to focus on jump scares and not plot and some wanted plot and jump scares. The final question was should it be set in one place or multiple, the reason that I ask this question is because some people don’t like it when it moves to different locations in short films they feel its trying to fit to much in when there little time and prefer it in one place where as some people prefer it in multiple places rather then seeing it one place. The responses again where very mixed however the majority wanted it in one place and since I intend to film it in one place this does seem like my best bet.
  • 5.  Viewing figures for horror/thriller short films 1. The follower, rated 10 star on imdb has a viewing figure of 300,000 from its initial release which is a high number for a short film thriller. 2. Sacrifice, which came out in 2014 viewing figure of 260,000 and is also a 10 star on imdb. 3. The passport, rated 10 star on imdb 15 minutes long mystery film that had a viewing figure of 240,000. 4. Jonestown, short film rated a 9.8 stars on imdb released in 2017 with a viewing figure of 180,000. 5. Infirmity, came out in 2016 has a 9.8 stars on imdb and has a viewing figure of 160,000. Observation : this shows me that there is a large audience to appeal to in the thriller side short films and ones with good story's can get really good ratings overall. Demographic The demographic of the short film that I am going for is thriller short films and the demographic of short films for thrillers are a audience that are interested in finding a thrill in a good plot that they can relate to and be in suspense. The demographic for horror are looking for something dark and Phycographic The phycographic that I am going to be going for is one that is mainly concerned with the eerie type of movie and the this would make them a phycographic that like to be freaked out and I feel that this is a good way to aim at because a lot of people or wide range have this phycographic and so aiming it at them would be in my opinion a good choice.
  • 6.  This article basically states about how they made a short film to put on iTunes to sell and make some money the film in question is one called gone fishing and essentially the film did quite well and sold a few copies made, in this article he basically said that his selling figure is $369.89 and that is after he has had 20% taken off it. It indicates that there is money to be made from short films. A lot of money if your lucky even if you only sell a few copies but the article goes on to say that after he got a company that works with iTunes to push the short film but this lead to a further 50% reduction in what money he made and by the end of all the money being taken the creator is left with $147.95 after 6 months of selling and this is bad because it shows that companies take something that you spent time and effort creating and take 70% of what you should have earned just for using there service. This article shows that there are ways to get boosts on advertisements and the sales figures to increase.
  • 7.  Primary research summary in my primary research I was able to create a survey and get responses from the survey and this in tern helped me to come up with the different ways to take my project, it is clear from the survey that they want there to be more of a story in the short film and I intend to give this t my primary audience by making sure that they can get some type of story happening in the short film so that it isn’t just plain and boring. The survey also showed me that they wanted a relatable character which is why my main protagonist is going to be an average person, this way everyone will be able to relate to them in some way. The survey also showed me that they wanted eerie scenes and so I intend to add these in to the best of my ability. The survey also showed that they wanted a horror dynamic tone and this tells me that my audience is are into dark toned movies for short films which works well with the end project that I want to create. The survey also showed that the majority of people of want to see an actual resolved ending so I feel that this can be easily done with the plot point to my story so the short film will actually have an ending in the end. The majority of people from the survey actually want there to be a morale to the story I feel I can present that. Secondary research summary For primary research I looked closely at the viewing figures for successful short films and the reason for this is because I wanted to see how short films that have done really well get for viewings and the overall result showed me that they can range from anywhere from 300,000 people all the way down to 100,000 which is a big audience for a short film in one time and so I feel that this opens up many possible doors to what can be done of course all these short films had advertisements and places to show that but what it did give me the ability to do is which theses short films and see how they have been put together and from then I was able to see how I could make mine and the different shots I could use which would be helpful and I think that overall this part of secondary research turned out to be very useful. On the second part of the research I looked at the money that you can make from them on this I wanted to go more realistic say selling 30 something copies of a film and I found an article that walked me through that showed me what can be made. Then I looked at the phycographic and demographic and how it could link in to my work.
  • 8. Demographic Phycographic Social status Gender The demographic that I am going for with this the demographic is going to be a mix between thriller and horror the reason for this is because these two demographics normally fit together very well and so I wanted to have them like this for mine as my one will be a mix between horror and thriller. The Phycographic that I m going for is somebody that is interested in the idea of thrillers and horror movies someone who is freaked out easily by concepts that have creepy aspics as this is the type of phycographic that are interested in the plot to things and so I feel this is a good place to aim my project at. I feel that the concept will be relatable to the middle class, the project will be watchable by all but mainly relatable to the middle class. As such I feel it will sway towards that general audience just because of the base and setting of the project. This will aim at the gender for male and female excuse its more plotline but it would be more relatable to have it aimed at mail as the main character of this short film will be a male.
  • 9.  BBFC expected age rating I feel that the age rating for this will be a 12 and the reason for this is because there will be no offensive material included in this at all and will be a clean from any bad language as there will only be music and sound affect t in the movie which is a good way to ensure that my work is done to these guidelines. It will not include any offensive material to do with gender or stereo types from race or culture. there will be no violence in this film this means it cant get put up to a higher age rating as the age rating for it would be a 12is because the story would be complicated an difficult to understand and I would only expect an adult or teenager to understand what the story behind it and the Morales so it would be more of a adult film but it wouldn’t brake any of the BBFC age rating guidelines. Appropriate content I would not define sexual activity or nudity to be appropriate in this type of short film and that is why there will be nothing like that included. Lots of bad language I would not expect in it at this time which is why there will be no explicit language included plus I couldn’t anyway because there will be no dialogue in the movie as everything has to be visually shown. I would also consider violence inappropriate for this film as in terms of physical bloody gore violence not necessarily violent acts within the short film. Audience appeal People have different tastes when it comes to films and my audience appeal is going to be aimed at people that are much more interested in story and character development then people that cant sit through a story and are only interested in seeing action scenes as there will be no action in this movie it will be just hopefully eeriness and spookiness.
  • 10.  Research potential production techniques you might want to use or feel would be most appropriate – these can be related to camera, editing, story, sound, etc  You should look at a minimum of 3 related products in your research.  You should collect clips/still images/how to guides/etc that might help you. When watching scenes from films, etc you could also ask potential target audience what they think.  You will need to add extra slides!  With each technique you should assess whether you can use it or how you might employ or why you may want to disregard it completely
  • 11. Batman v superman dawn of justice This film is one that I chose to be similar to because of the tone this film takes with its camera movement and how each seen fits really well in with one another, it uses so many different techniques to present itself and is mainly set with a dark tone and I feel that it is important to try and do this style with my film because if I was able to pull off what Zack Snyder could then visually it would look amazing. This film is very dark toned and it uses these dark tones to set every scene stand out visuals on this movie is how it uses the weather, mainly always at night and rarely in the day, it uses rain to make sad scenes and also great combat scenes, there are few action scenes in this movie it focuses more on dialogue and story which is what I personally prefer from a film. The posters and trailers of the film show various different scenes within it and when it does this it provides people with the different type of content that will be included in the movie and from this they appeal to target audience. The very film itself appeals to the target audience of fans because its based of the graphic novel of the dark knight returns which fans love and the batman in this is portrayed perfectly from the novel as well as the fight scene between batman and superman, as a batman fan it was amazing to watch and enjoy and definitely delivered fan service despite what critics say but given they haven't read the comics or know the fanbase they cant exactly judge on correct merits a lot of the reviews don’t even explain why its bad one said “because its to dark” since when does that make a film bad that’s just personal preference.
  • 12. This film poster uses the use of the colour blue a lot and goes for a very retro style of font as it is based of a book full of 80s trivia. The poster features the main character on the front climbing up towards the egg in the background I see this as imagery of him in the film climbing his way up to the main egg and winning the challenge. The egg is built into the clouds this poster represent the movie well because of the symbolism around it. The ready player one trailer uses the same type of retro theme using 80s style while packed with 80s music like take on me and jump which have a remixed sound to them so it really fits into the trailer amazingly well. The film itself uses lots of 80s trivia in the virtual world the story is of a guy called wade watts who was named that because it sounded like a superhero and he is obsessed with creator of the oasis (virtual world) who is James Halliday and in order to find the egg he learnt everything about him that he could. The film contains references to different games and movies and one movie that has a lot of references is that he drives the DeLorean from back to the future as his car choice and it plays the back to the future music a lot within this film. The tone of the film is mainly happy and jolly even thought depressing things are happening this is contradicting the tone but for once it works really well. Things from this title that I would take into my own are the fact that it has a blue colour scheme which represent safety I would like to include that as my main colour scheme at the end of it, although mine will be a horror thriller I want to add in this type of tone as it brightens the mood of the film a bit which is always nice.
  • 13. Insidious is a horror/ thriller film that is renowned for its music, the music uses a very loud sinister sound which I feel is the best way to describe it and I feel that the overall layout of the film is amazingly done having scenes that all link together at the end and in the next film this type of structure is both chronological and non chronological and I feel for a film like this to have this is a really nice touch as it brings something new to the horror franchise taking a massive focus on story rather then just bad things happening to people including great actors for the scenes and making a soundtrack that is extremely memorable. These films are re watchable and great to watch each time which is something you cant say for many horror films, and if you watch one then you have to watch them all because they link together so well. Because they give the villain in the second one a backstory it has so much more impact when it starts attacking the main characters and then that links back to the first one scene by scene, things I would take from this and put into my own work a soundtrack just like it for the eerie scenes.
  • 15.  For the filming me and my group got together and thought about what we could make with the camera and we decided to have a main character walk up the stairs and turn to a corridor, when he looked through the corridor he sees himself walking by the corridor and he would be confused and then walk and look about only to see more of him walking, this would be the end. The point was not to make a compelling story more to just play with the camera and get sued to the feel of it. We created a shot list for what we wanted on a piece of paper and also a story board. To start with we opened up wit a panning shot of the room we filmed this 3 times to try and get the best one each time adjusting and fixing the settings so there was less blur to the camera then we followed the camera around with a tracking shot of Connor wiffem walking from down the stairs to up the stairs. And then a zoom in shot of Connors face followed by a medium shot of the door, this was an interesting process to complete and it took time. We used a tripod for a lot of shots and hand held for a few and we rented out the camera for a couple of hours to get the footage but we only filmed for a round about 30 minutes of having the camera as we spent the other hour and 30 minutes completing the planning.
  • 16.  What elements of your experiments will you include in your final product?  The different shot types in my experiments I practiced doing them and including a variety but the main focus was making sure that all of the shot types linked together well and looked good and nothing was to much or to hard so it didn’t corollate very well. I will use the exact same equipment in my work, a tripod and a camera with a spare battery and Sd card, however the story will be very different the way it is set up will also be very different and the actors that take part in the film will also be very different in the final project.
  • 17.  For the editing I used adobe premier to put all of the footage together when putting it together I created different folders one for audio and one for footage as well spare footage and discard footage just in case I need to go back and get something I got rid of for some reason. I then moved everything into the editing software and began to edit the footage cutting out bits I don’t need shortening it down, then adding affects to it. I used the cut tool a lot and also the effect tool to change the position of certain images and turn it around rotating it to make it look more strange just having a playa round with it. I then added in the audio when everything was up to scratch. I added the audio in going through the video and picking out the parts where a door slams or there are footsteps making sure all the sound affects are correct and on the right spot by zooming into the footage and making sure everything was exact by the second it came on, this took some movement and messing about but eventually I got everything timed and then all I needed to do was add in the music track over it and then it was fully complete.
  • 18.  What elements of your experiments will you include in your final product?  I would organise it exactly the same In how I did the experiment and then I would make sure that the audio was recorded the same way and added into it the exact same as it was before. Would add in the audio the same way I would however change up the tools and make it more proficient to the task. I would use the zoom in affect.
  • 19.  For the audio I needed to book out an audio device. I used this audio device to record different sounds. The first sound that I recorded was footsteps and to do this I recorded someone stamping there foot as they walked and then I followed them with this audio device and from there we wen outside collecting different sounds from outside an example of this collecting the sound of the wind. We also got the sound of cars even though there wouldn’t be any cars in the video but we thought to get a variety of different sounds so there was a lot to choose from, we also got a audio recordings of door opening and closing and this I feel worked well with the overall complete experiment. I then used garage band to create a music track to follow through the experiments.
  • 20.  What elements of your experiments will you include in your final product?  I will do the exact same thing that I did throughout this project for my project, I feel that it is important to collect my own sound affects and use them using the audio equipment. I feel this experiment was very helpful for practice for the project. In my final project I am going to use garage band to create my music, it is disappointing that I can only use certain instruments but I'm sure that I will be able to use more on it, but I'm sure I can create a decent enough track to short film.
  • 21.  List all the potential constraints that might affect or limit your production, you should consider issues from each of these categories:  Time/Personnel/Cost/Technical/Location/Organisational  Time will limit what I can do as of now I have 3 weeks to complete the project and in this time I will struggle to get the pre production, production reflection, production and also the evaluation done within the next 3 weeks its really not much time as well as weather conditions on the dates of productions preventing me from getting in to college I will find it difficult to do such a big project in such little time. The people I am relying on will also cause me large constraint as if they cant make it to filming it can have a massive impact on my already limited timing so relying on people may prove difficult. The technical side of things such as computers on programs not working or my save files been corrupted can slow me down a great deal and set me behind setting constraints on my production. The place I want to film my short film I might be able to get to on the day or may not be allowed to film there which could ruin the initial plan of filming the short film and set me behind if that where to happen so I will have check before I film it. If I am not organised in making sure I have all the equipment and I don’t organise the cast and crew my short film could also fall flat which I really don’t want to happen.

Editor's Notes

  1. You MUST conduct a questionnaire/survey/interview or a combination of all three. Summarise this and add in any other primary research you feel is appropriate
  2. Research viewing figures, sales figures, demographic and psychographic info. Look up article, features or stories related to your potential audience
  3. Research viewing figures, sales figures, demographic and psychographic info. Look up article, features or stories related to your potential audience
  4. For this you should summarise your primary and secondary research, through this you should then be able to produce an audience outline that you intend to target. For this you could also produce an audience profile.

  6. Given your idea generation and your audience research, what sort of content would you define as the appropriate. Consider issues of taste, certification [BBFC might be a good starting point for this], etc. Look at what you’d like to include and what you are allowed to include
  7. Research potential production techniques you might want to use or feel would be most appropriate – these can be related to camera, editing, story, sound, etc You should look at a minimum of 3 related products in your research. You should collect clips/still images/how to guides/etc that might help you. When watching scenes from films, etc you could also ask potential target audience what they think. You will need to add extra slides! With each technique you should assess whether you can use it or how you might employ or why you may want to disregard it completely
  8. Discuss the tools and processes used in your experiments – use screenshots to illustrate your process
