This document discusses the effectiveness of several photos for a hip hop genre magazine. It analyzes each photo based on factors like posing, facial expression, angle, attire and how well it represents the serious tone of hip hop. Some photos are deemed highly suitable due to depicting serious looks that fit the genre through poses and clothing, while others could be improved by changing the outfit or adjusting the lighting in post-production. An engaging smile and eye contact in one photo makes the subject inviting and draws the reader in.
2. This image is quite good because of the angle and
the way Sean is looking. I like this photo because of
the type of shot this is. This is a mid shot which
shows his waist up. The arms crossed shows a
serious look which signifies the type of genre my
magazine is based on. Also the clothes he is wearing
are acceptable as well because most artists in the hip
hop genre wear dark clothes and Sean's coat is black
which is suitable. However the lighting is quite bright
which is the opposite to this and may confuse
people with what the genre is. However I can use
Photoshop to adapt this and make the lighting
darker.
3. This photo is effective because it is a different style
shot. This photo is a full shot. This shows a full shot
of Tommy. This is good because it shows off what he
is wearing, however he is in business wear at the
moment, but if it is taken again he could wear a
tracksuit which would suit the genre more. Also the
way he is looking down is good because it shows off
his emotions and how he is feeling. Because he is
looking down it shows he is unhappy, this could
invite readers in because there could be a meaning
behind this.
4. This photo is a different angle and looks really
good. I like this photo because he looks quite
serious in it and the angle looks really effective.
The low camera angle shot looks good because
the camera is below the eye line of Liam and
makes him look big and dominant. This links to
my chosen genre because hip-hop is more serious
and this photo looks like it fits into this genre.
Also this photo is good because of the facial
expression that Liam is showing. He looks quite
serious which is good. Also he is looking directly
into the camera which shows he is engaging
himself with the audience.
5. This photo is a medium close up. This is effective
because it draws the readers attention towards the
cover. This is good because it looks like he is
engaging with the audience which will draw
people towards the front cover. Also a close up
shows the models emotions, this is done to show
how they are feeling. This is good because it is
used a lot in hip-hop magazines. However if the
model on the front is looking too serious the
consumers may feel uncomfortable and not like
the magazine. This image is in-between. So
therefore it is not too serious and the consumer
will not feel offended.
6. This photo shows a slightly low shot. This is good
because it is not really low which looks like it is
taken of the floor, it is good because it is just
lower that his eye line. Also because Shea is
looking at the camera it shows he is interacting
with the audience. Also the clothing is suitable
because it is plain and the colour is dark which is
relevant to the hip-hop genre. However the coat
doesn’t look as good as if he was wearing a t-shirt
and a jacket. This could make the image better
because you can see what he is wearing and what
hip-hop artists wear.
7. This image is good because it can be put onto the double
page spread or the contents page. I also like this image
because of the costume. This is because it represents the
hip hop genre, which I am targeting my magazine
towards. Also, I can crop the background out so it looks
like he's on his own and will look effective because of the
way he is posing. This image is quite laid back which I also
like as well. This is because he is sitting down which shows
that he is relaxed and calm which is good. Also, he has a
smile on his face which is interesting and makes the
reader think what is he smiling at. He is also giving direct
eye contact which is good. This shows that he is engaging
with the reader which is good because it draws people to
the magazine more.
