Client Project Pro- Forma
Sophie Husteden
Mind Maps/Brainstorms I have to make a series of posters
based around Halloween.
Witch ideaFor the witch in skyline idea, I was thinking that I would have a
silhouette of a witch on a broomstick going across the sky, or moon. Or
I would have a cartoon witch. I would have to make it out of shapes
from scratch, since I could get into trouble with copyright if I have a
cartoon too similar to other ones. To stop this I could roughly sketch a
couple ideas for the witch then try to create them in Photoshop. The
colour scheme would be oranges, purples and blacks.
Evaluation of idea
I like this idea because it is what would typically be seen
for Halloween things. Also it would be relatively easy to
create. It would also match what the client wants
because it is themed on Halloween, however it does not
show any pumpkins or apples. I would be capable of
creating this poster idea in the time constraints as it is
relatively easy. I also have all the resources that I would
need, as I have Photoshop both at college and at home,
and if I need to sketch some ideas then I have paper and
pencils available.
Mock up
Scary apple/pumpkinFor the scary pumpkin idea I was thinking that there would be a big pumpkin
with a scary face on it, this would be the main part of the image. To make
this I would either have to buy a real pumpkin and carve it so that it would
look good enough for the poster, or I would create one on Photoshop out of
shapes. The scary apple idea is quite similar to the pumpkin one but with an
apple instead or a pumpkin. I would similarly either have to cut an apple to
look scary or create a fake one, it would probably be easier to just make one
in Photoshop as apples are quite small to carve on. The colour schemes
would be orange, black and red.
I like this idea because it is what would typically be seen for
Halloween things. Also it would be relatively easy to create.
It would also match what the client wants because it is
themed on Halloween, however it does not show any
pumpkins or apples. I would be capable of creating this
poster idea in the time constraints as it is relatively easy. I
also have all the resources that I would need, as I have
Photoshop both at college and at home, and if I need to
sketch some ideas then I have paper and pencils available.
Evaluation of idea
Mock up
Pumpkin patch style poster/Cartoon
pumpkin poster
For this I was thinking to have a poster in a style that is similar to other posters
for pumpkin patches, these can be anything but it contains mainly pumpkins. I
was considering having a poster with a cartoon pumpkin, this would not be
scary. It would contain lots of autumnal colours, so the scheme would be
oranges, browns and yellows. I think that the poster would be more minimal
styled and contain less writing as I think that posters should be quite short and
will capture someone's attention quickly. The cartoon pumpkin poster is
similar to the idea for the pumpkin patch ones but there will be cartoon
pumpkins.
I like that this idea is quite simple and has a lot of potential, also there is a lot
of space for the writing to be put onto the page. This style of poster would
match the brief from the client, as it would both put all the information
necessary and shows the pumpkins. I would be capable of making this style of
poster, even though it may be more difficult than the other styles as it has
more elements needed for the page. I will be able to create this style of poster
in the time deadline. I have all the resources needed to create this type of
poster, since all I need is Photoshop which I have both at college and at home.
Evaluation of idea
Mock up
Apple balloons
This poster idea is that I want to have some apples as hot air balloons, this
would be quite creative and would stand out to the viewer quickly. There
would be a blue sky and some hot air apple balloons going across, this would
go with the apple part of the festival. I would create this by taking pictures of
a real apple, then I will change the hue of it in Photoshop so that it there are
different coloured ones, I would want these colours to be red, green, yellow
and blue. There would also be people floating in the baskets of the hot air
balloons, this would help show that they were hot air balloons.
I like that this idea is the most creative and different, this will help it to
interest the viewers and capture their attention. It would match the clients
brief because it shows the apples, also there will be space for all the
information that is needed to be put onto the poster. This poster idea is
more difficult to create than the rest of them because it is more creative,
however I believe that I will be able to create this poster in the time
deadline. I have most of the resources I need to create this, except I will need
to buy an apple, also I will have to hire a camera out to be able to take
photos of the apple.
Evaluation of idea
Mock up
Black cat poster
For this poster I would have a big black cat wrapping around the
bottom of the page, this would leave space for the text at the top
part of the page. The colour scheme for this would be black,
green and orange. I would make this by creating a cat shape using
shapes.
Evaluation of idea
I like that this idea is quite simple, but will still show the
Halloween theme. Also the company used to own a black cat so it
would relate to them, and I could even have it based around that
cat. The idea matches what the client wanted as it is Halloween
themed, however it does not match the pumpkin and apple parts
of the brief. I would be capable of creating this idea in the time
limit, as I have all of the resources I need, Photoshop, and a cat.
Mock up
Outfit idea
The idea for this is to have two models dressed as a pumpkin and
an apple, they would be sat on a tree stump or in the forest. The
colour scheme for this idea would be red, green, orange and
black. Using live models will make the audience connect with the
poster more than if it was cartoons.
Evaluation of idea
I like that this idea involves live models which is different from
the rest of my ideas, it would catch peoples attention because
you don’t normally see people dressed as pumpkins or apples.
This idea works with the clients brief because it is Halloween
themed and shows pumpkins and apples. I probably would not
be able to create this idea because I would need to get the
costumes which would cost money that I would have to pay
towards it, and it’s not guaranteed that they would come in time
for the project.
Mock up
Final choices
My client wants 3 posters to be created so I can choose up to 3 of my ideas. I think
that I am going to use the cat poster idea, the pumpkin patch poster, and the apple
hot air balloon idea. I chose the cat idea because I preferred the idea over some of the
other ones I chose, however it will not include any pumpkins or apples as the client
would have preferred to have included. I have decided to do the pumpkin patch poster
idea to be the poster that has the most information on it, this is because there is more
space on the poster to include more writing than some of my other ideas as there are
less graphics included in it, also it will have pictures of pumpkins and apples like what
the client requested. Finally I chose the hot air balloon poster idea since it is more
experimental and will make people stop to look at it, also it includes apples.
Assessment of final ideas
Suitable for audience?
The final posters will be suitable for the audiences because they are both child friendly and
adult friendly.
Suitability for client?
They will be suitable for the client as they match the criteria of the brief, as they will all
match the theme of Halloween and be in the colour scheme that they specified.
Appeal of the work:
The work is going to appeal to people that have children that may want to take them to the
fest, or people that are fans of the place.
Timescales for production:
I will have 2 weeks for production, however I don’t think it will take that long for me to make
the posters.
Costs:
There are no costs for me to be able to make the posters, except the cost for Photoshop
however I already have that available at college and at home.
Personnel:
I will not need any personnel to make these posters, except my cat which I will need to take photos
of to be able to have an image to create a cat off of in the cat poster.
Assessment of final ideas
Legal and ethical issues:
One legal issue would be if I use copyrighted thing, this could be images, fonts, etc. Using
something that is copyrighted could mean that the company that I made my posters for
could have to pay a fee between $200 and $150,000, depending on how many times the
copy righted thing was used, the amount of damage caused and how much it would have
originally cost you to buy the rights to the thing. To make sure that I do not use anything
that is copyrighted I am not going to use any images off of the internet, unless it specifically
says that it is copyright free, I am going to take my own images if necessary. I am also
going to check if I can use the font by seeing if it is okay for commercial use.
Another similar issue is the use of free downloadable fonts from websites such as DaFont.
The fonts that are on those website are often free for personal use, but since the posters
would be used for advertising this company it would need to be free for business use. To
make sure that I only use fonts that are allowed for business I am going research each font
before I use it.
Research
Competition/Market research:
What wider market is your client part of? Undertake research in to that market. This could be in
the form of sales figures, audience figures, turnover, job roles, customer base, market share,
rules, regulations and codes of practice.
Since my client is a charity they do not have any business competition, however they do have
competition with other charities. This competition would mainly be for them to get more
costumers to their shop and more people that donate to them. One charity I found that would
be in competition with my client is ‘Scope’, they help people with disabilities, which is the same
as Brunswick. Scope would probably be Brunswick's main competition as they have a similar
task, and they are a bigger and well known charity, whereas Brunswick is smaller and more
known in the community.
I found two examples of some advertising posters from the completion that I previously wrote
about, Scope. The first poster is the yellow one, this has quite a simple layout and design, which
makes it easier for the audience to be able to see it for a shorter amount of time and still
understand it fully. The colour scheme for the poster is blue and yellow which stands out to the
viewer, and will catch their attention. The second poster is the blue one, this is more similar to
the posters that I will be making for my client as it is advertising an event. The style and layout of
this poster is similar to the yellow one as it is quite simple and easy to understand quickly.
Overall, the advertising posters used for Scope are quite effective as they are easy to
understand, and use bright eye catching colours that will draw attention of viewers.
Audience/Customer research:
I asked my client what they target audience is and they said that it can be anyone and that they did not have a specific
audience, so I decided to try and work out what it likely to be.
The age of the target audience would probably be older, this is as they are a gardening centre and people aged 30 upwards
are more likely to garden, as they may have more spare time, especially if the person is retired which happens when
someone is older. To check that this assumption was correct I checked the media pack for a gardening event for the ‘BBC
Gardeners world’. The average age for the visitors of that event was 50, this shows that I was correct in that mainly older
people will be the target audience for the client and event.
The gender for the target audience would be either male or female, this is due to gardening not being for a specific gender.
However when looking at the media pack for the BBC gardening event it said that the majority of people were female, with
73% of them being that. So after seeing that I chose to change it so that the target audience can be either male or female,
but aimed slightly more towards females.
The geodemographics for the target audience is people in and around York, this is because it is quite a small charity that is
based in Bishopthorpe York. Since it is quite small the target audience is people that live near them, as people are not likely
to make large journeys to them.
For the psychographics of the target audience it is going to be mainly aimed towards people that have a interest in gardening
and horticulture. This is because they are a gardening centre along side being a charity, meaning that they want to appeal to
people that want to support a local charity by buying gardening
paraphernalia.
The socio-economic status of the target audience is likely to be people in
the social grades A, B, C1 and C2, this is because the audience is wanted to
be able to buy products from them or to make donations towards them.
This means that they need to be able to afford to do these things.
Content research:
I did some secondary research on my client, this included looking on their website,
they have a section dedicated to the company values and missions. The missions
section says that they want to ‘enable people with learning difficulties to enrich
their lives through, developing relationships and building communities.’ this
explains in a small paragraph about what they want to do. This paragraph shows
that they are a company that actually want to help the people with learning
difficulties that they have, as well as showing that they have a good core mission.
The values section of the page is set out as a bullet pointed list, with there being 10
all together. They range from ones that show that they care about the people with
learning difficulties that go there, ‘to actively care about the people we work with’,
to ones that show the business side of the company, ‘To make best possible use of
funds and ensure value of money.’, there seem to be more about the caring for
people than the business ones, this shows that they overall focus more on the
people they work with than the money.
I could find two existing posters that my client has used for some events in the past.
They are both advertising posters used to advertise events that they were holding,
one being Pumple fest (the same one I'm making posters for) and the other for
Spring fest. The posters both seem quite simple.
I did some primary research by meeting with my client in person and asking them
who their target audience is and on the company in general. They said that they aim
their events towards families, this is due to them wanting the events to be
something families can do with their children. As for the company they said that
they mainly focus on the people with learning difficulties because that is what the
company was founded on, and that they help them through putting them in a
community like setting.
Content research:
This should take the form of secondary research (exiting products from your client and the competition and wider
market) and also some primary research (asking potential audience, your client and your market,) to help you
formalise the content of your project.
A charity that is in competition with my client is Scope. I found two of their
advertising posters, however they are not advertising for a certain event but
more the company overall. Both of the posters are quite hard hitting
compared to the ones that my client uses. They are hard hitting because they
both show quite shocking things. Such as one of the posters says ‘We’ve seen
your funny looks. Here are some of ours.’ this is accompanied by some
pictures of children with disabilities pulling faces, I would say that this poster
is quite shocking because it describes the images as funny looks, which is
something that has been used to be mean towards people with disabilities.
The second poster is also quite shocking on it it says ‘Disabled toilets? It’s not
me that’s taking the piss’, this is referring to when people use the disabled
toilets when they do not have a disability. This statement
is accompanied with an image of a man in a wheelchair
which shows the point that they were making more.
The posters that my client uses tend to be less shocking,
this could be because their events are also for children.
Treatment
I am going to be making three advertising posters for my client, Brunswick organic nursery. These
posters are going to be themed around Halloween as the event that they will be advertising is
going to be Halloween themed. The posters are going to include information about the event,
such as the time that it is going to be open, the location, some of the activities that will be done
there, etc. The posters are all going to be bright and colorful, as this will catch peoples attention
and make them more likely to read what they are about. I am going to use autumnal colors,
which tend to be quite warm toned, this will make the posters look more inviting and warm than
if I used cool toned colors.
I am going to create a backgrounds for my poster these will have cartoon pumpkins and apples
that will be quite detailed, having a background that has lots of detail on it will make people look
closer at the poster as they will want to see what it is. The writing on the posters is going to be
brightly colored as this will make it stand out to the viewers. I am also going to change some of
the words from the text’s color, this will highlight it and show the viewer that that is the most
important part of the text, and will draw their attention to those words. The font that I use is
going to be easy to read but still has a nice design, this is because I want the viewers to be able to
read what the posters say but I still want it to look aesthetically pleasing. All three of the posters
are going to have different themes and different graphic elements, this will make it so that they
do not all look the same, also as they will all be differently styled it will mean that there will be
posters for any of the viewers with different style tastes. I am also going to be making one of my
posters look somewhat abstract, as this will intrigue the viewers and will make them want to go
to the event.
Treatment (Mock ups)
Treatment (Moodboard)
Timescales:
Date Task to do What to do?

partial manipulation of shapes and
rotascoping a real picture of cat.
Start to put together the poster
Thursday 16th May
1-2 lessons (3 hours)
Finish off the cat poster Finish putting together the cat
poster using the pumpkin patch
one as a reference. Decide on the
layout of the poster, and how the
words are going to be set up.
Friday 17th May
1-2 lessons (3 hours)
Create the apple hot air
balloons poster
Create a apple cartoon, using an
image of real apple. Make a basket
for the hot air balloon, yet again
using a real image. Decide the
layout, and what is going to be in
the background.
Timescales:
I have not been given a deadline from my client, since the event that I made the posters for is in
October. However my deadline for college was that everything had to be handed in for the 8th of
June, this meant that I have 5 weeks overall for the project, it was split so I would have 2 weeks for
pre production, 2 weeks for production and 1 week for evaluation. But I decided to have an extra
week for preproduction and take 1 week off of production, since I could get the posters finished in a
week easily. Also I chose to have the 2nd week of production to be the spare week, as it meant that
if I did not have the posters finished in the week I gave myself it meant I had the time left over, and I
could get the feedback in this week.
My client is quite easy to get a hold of, as I could just go in or ask my mother as she works there.
Also I have the emails of the people in charge of the company. To get feedback I am going to do so
in the spare week that is in between production and evaluation that I left open for preproduction
work, doing so will give them a week to give me feedback before I start my evaluation.

Idea development pro forma

  • 1. Client Project Pro- Forma Sophie Husteden
  • 2. Mind Maps/Brainstorms I have to make a series of posters based around Halloween.
  • 3. Witch ideaFor the witch in skyline idea, I was thinking that I would have a silhouette of a witch on a broomstick going across the sky, or moon. Or I would have a cartoon witch. I would have to make it out of shapes from scratch, since I could get into trouble with copyright if I have a cartoon too similar to other ones. To stop this I could roughly sketch a couple ideas for the witch then try to create them in Photoshop. The colour scheme would be oranges, purples and blacks. Evaluation of idea I like this idea because it is what would typically be seen for Halloween things. Also it would be relatively easy to create. It would also match what the client wants because it is themed on Halloween, however it does not show any pumpkins or apples. I would be capable of creating this poster idea in the time constraints as it is relatively easy. I also have all the resources that I would need, as I have Photoshop both at college and at home, and if I need to sketch some ideas then I have paper and pencils available.
  • 5. Scary apple/pumpkinFor the scary pumpkin idea I was thinking that there would be a big pumpkin with a scary face on it, this would be the main part of the image. To make this I would either have to buy a real pumpkin and carve it so that it would look good enough for the poster, or I would create one on Photoshop out of shapes. The scary apple idea is quite similar to the pumpkin one but with an apple instead or a pumpkin. I would similarly either have to cut an apple to look scary or create a fake one, it would probably be easier to just make one in Photoshop as apples are quite small to carve on. The colour schemes would be orange, black and red. I like this idea because it is what would typically be seen for Halloween things. Evaluation of idea
  • 7. Pumpkin patch style poster/Cartoon pumpkin poster For this I was thinking to have a poster in a style that is similar to other posters for pumpkin patches, these can be anything but it contains mainly pumpkins. I was considering having a poster with a cartoon pumpkin, this would not be scary. It would contain lots of autumnal colours, so the scheme would be oranges, browns and yellows. I think that the poster would be more minimal styled and contain less writing as I think that posters should be quite short and will capture someone's attention quickly. The cartoon pumpkin poster is similar to the idea for the pumpkin patch ones but there will be cartoon pumpkins. I like that this idea is quite simple and has a lot of potential, also there is a lot of space for the writing to be put onto the page. This style of poster would match the brief from the client, as it would both put all the information necessary and shows the pumpkins. I would be capable of making this style of poster, even though it may be more difficult than the other styles as it has more elements needed for the page. I will be able to create this style of poster in the time deadline. I have all the resources needed to create this type of poster, since all I need is Photoshop which I have both at college and at home. Evaluation of idea
  • 9. Apple balloons This poster idea is that I want to have some apples as hot air balloons, this would be quite creative and would stand out to the viewer quickly. There would be a blue sky and some hot air apple balloons going across, this would go with the apple part of the festival. I would create this by taking pictures of a real apple, then I will change the hue of it in Photoshop so that it there are different coloured ones, I would want these colours to be red, green, yellow and blue. There would also be people floating in the baskets of the hot air balloons, this would help show that they were hot air balloons. I like that this idea is the most creative and different, this will help it to interest the viewers and capture their attention. It would match the clients brief because it shows the apples, also there will be space for all the information that is needed to be put onto the poster. This poster idea is more difficult to create than the rest of them because it is more creative, however I believe that I will be able to create this poster in the time deadline. I have most of the resources I need to create this, except I will need to buy an apple, also I will have to hire a camera out to be able to take photos of the apple. Evaluation of idea
  • 11. Black cat poster For this poster I would have a big black cat wrapping around the bottom of the page, this would leave space for the text at the top part of the page. The colour scheme for this would be black, green and orange. I would make this by creating a cat shape using shapes. Evaluation of idea I like that this idea is quite simple, but will still show the Halloween theme. Also the company used to own a black cat so it would relate to them, and I could even have it based around that cat. The idea matches what the client wanted as it is Halloween themed, however it does not match the pumpkin and apple parts of the brief. I would be capable of creating this idea in the time limit, as I have all of the resources I need, Photoshop, and a cat.
  • 13. Outfit idea The idea for this is to have two models dressed as a pumpkin and an apple, they would be sat on a tree stump or in the forest. The colour scheme for this idea would be red, green, orange and black. Using live models will make the audience connect with the poster more than if it was cartoons. Evaluation of idea I like that this idea involves live models which is different from the rest of my ideas, it would catch peoples attention because you don’t normally see people dressed as pumpkins or apples. This idea works with the clients brief because it is Halloween themed and shows pumpkins and apples. I probably would not be able to create this idea because I would need to get the costumes which would cost money that I would have to pay towards it, and it’s not guaranteed that they would come in time for the project.
  • 15. Final choices My client wants 3 posters to be created so I can choose up to 3 of my ideas. I think that I am going to use the cat poster idea, the pumpkin patch poster, and the apple hot air balloon idea. I chose the cat idea because I preferred the idea over some of the other ones I chose, however it will not include any pumpkins or apples as the client would have preferred to have included. I have decided to do the pumpkin patch poster idea to be the poster that has the most information on it, this is because there is more space on the poster to include more writing than some of my other ideas as there are less graphics included in it, also it will have pictures of pumpkins and apples like what the client requested. Finally I chose the hot air balloon poster idea since it is more experimental and will make people stop to look at it, also it includes apples.
  • 16. Assessment of final ideas Suitable for audience? The final posters will be suitable for the audiences because they are both child friendly and adult friendly. Suitability for client? They will be suitable for the client as they match the criteria of the brief, as they will all match the theme of Halloween and be in the colour scheme that they specified. Appeal of the work: The work is going to appeal to people that have children that may want to take them to the fest, or people that are fans of the place. Timescales for production: I will have 2 weeks for production, however I don’t think it will take that long for me to make the posters. Costs: There are no costs for me to be able to make the posters, except the cost for Photoshop however I already have that available at college and at home. Personnel: I will not need any personnel to make these posters, except my cat which I will need to take photos of to be able to have an image to create a cat off of in the cat poster.
  • 17. Assessment of final ideas Legal and ethical issues: One legal issue would be if I use copyrighted thing, this could be images, fonts, etc. Using something that is copyrighted could mean that the company that I made my posters for could have to pay a fee between $200 and $150,000, depending on how many times the copy righted thing was used, the amount of damage caused and how much it would have originally cost you to buy the rights to the thing. To make sure that I do not use anything that is copyrighted I am not going to use any images off of the internet, unless it specifically says that it is copyright free, I am going to take my own images if necessary. I am also going to check if I can use the font by seeing if it is okay for commercial use. Another similar issue is the use of free downloadable fonts from websites such as DaFont. The fonts that are on those website are often free for personal use, but since the posters would be used for advertising this company it would need to be free for business use. To make sure that I only use fonts that are allowed for business I am going research each font before I use it.
  • 19. Competition/Market research: What wider market is your client part of? Undertake research in to that market. This could be in the form of sales figures, audience figures, turnover, job roles, customer base, market share, rules, regulations and codes of practice. Since my client is a charity they do not have any business competition, however they do have competition with other charities. This competition would mainly be for them to get more costumers to their shop and more people that donate to them. One charity I found that would be in competition with my client is ‘Scope’, they help people with disabilities, which is the same as Brunswick. Scope would probably be Brunswick's main competition as they have a similar task, and they are a bigger and well known charity, whereas Brunswick is smaller and more known in the community. I found two examples of some advertising posters from the completion that I previously wrote about, Scope. The first poster is the yellow one, this has quite a simple layout and design, which makes it easier for the audience to be able to see it for a shorter amount of time and still understand it fully. The colour scheme for the poster is blue and yellow which stands out to the viewer, and will catch their attention. The second poster is the blue one, this is more similar to the posters that I will be making for my client as it is advertising an event. The style and layout of this poster is similar to the yellow one as it is quite simple and easy to understand quickly. Overall, the advertising posters used for Scope are quite effective as they are easy to understand, and use bright eye catching colours that will draw attention of viewers.
  • 20. Audience/Customer research: I asked my client what they target audience is and they said that it can be anyone and that they did not have a specific audience, so I decided to try and work out what it likely to be. The age of the target audience would probably be older, this is as they are a gardening centre and people aged 30 upwards are more likely to garden, as they may have more spare time, especially if the person is retired which happens when someone is older. To check that this assumption was correct I checked the media pack for a gardening event for the ‘BBC Gardeners world’. The average age for the visitors of that event was 50, this shows that I was correct in that mainly older people will be the target audience for the client and event. The gender for the target audience would be either male or female, this is due to gardening not being for a specific gender. However when looking at the media pack for the BBC gardening event it said that the majority of people were female, with 73% of them being that. So after seeing that I chose to change it so that the target audience can be either male or female, but aimed slightly more towards females. The geodemographics for the target audience is people in and around York, this is because it is quite a small charity that is based in Bishopthorpe York. Since it is quite small the target audience is people that live near them, as people are not likely to make large journeys to them. For the psychographics of the target audience it is going to be mainly aimed towards people that have a interest in gardening and horticulture. This is because they are a gardening centre along side being a charity, meaning that they want to appeal to people that want to support a local charity by buying gardening paraphernalia. The socio-economic status of the target audience is likely to be people in the social grades A, B, C1 and C2, this is because the audience is wanted to be able to buy products from them or to make donations towards them. This means that they need to be able to afford to do these things.
  • 21. Content research: I did some secondary research on my client, this included looking on their website, they have a section dedicated to the company values and missions. The missions section says that they want to ‘enable people with learning difficulties to enrich their lives through, developing relationships and building communities.’ this explains in a small paragraph about what they want to do. This paragraph shows that they are a company that actually want to help the people with learning difficulties that they have, as well as showing that they have a good core mission. The values section of the page is set out as a bullet pointed list, with there being 10 all together. They range from ones that show that they care about the people with learning difficulties that go there, ‘to actively care about the people we work with’, to ones that show the business side of the company, ‘To make best possible use of funds and ensure value of money.’, there seem to be more about the caring for people than the business ones, this shows that they overall focus more on the people they work with than the money. I could find two existing posters that my client has used for some events in the past. They are both advertising posters used to advertise events that they were holding, one being Pumple fest (the same one I'm making posters for) and the other for Spring fest. The posters both seem quite simple. I did some primary research by meeting with my client in person and asking them who their target audience is and on the company in general. They said that they aim their events towards families, this is due to them wanting the events to be something families can do with their children. As for the company they said that they mainly focus on the people with learning difficulties because that is what the company was founded on, and that they help them through putting them in a community like setting.
  • 22. Content research: This should take the form of secondary research (exiting products from your client and the competition and wider market) and also some primary research (asking potential audience, your client and your market,) to help you formalise the content of your project. A charity that is in competition with my client is Scope. I found two of their advertising posters, however they are not advertising for a certain event but more the company overall. Both of the posters are quite hard hitting compared to the ones that my client uses. They are hard hitting because they both show quite shocking things. Such as one of the posters says ‘We’ve seen your funny looks. Here are some of ours.’ this is accompanied by some pictures of children with disabilities pulling faces, I would say that this poster is quite shocking because it describes the images as funny looks, which is something that has been used to be mean towards people with disabilities. The second poster is also quite shocking on it it says ‘Disabled toilets? It’s not me that’s taking the piss’, this is referring to when people use the disabled toilets when they do not have a disability. This statement is accompanied with an image of a man in a wheelchair which shows the point that they were making more. The posters that my client uses tend to be less shocking, this could be because their events are also for children.
  • 23. Treatment I am going to be making three advertising posters for my client, Brunswick organic nursery. These posters are going to be themed around Halloween as the event that they will be advertising is going to be Halloween themed. The posters are going to include information about the event, such as the time that it is going to be open, the location, some of the activities that will be done there, etc. The posters are all going to be bright and colorful, as this will catch peoples attention and make them more likely to read what they are about. I am going to use autumnal colors, which tend to be quite warm toned, this will make the posters look more inviting and warm than if I used cool toned colors. I am going to create a backgrounds for my poster these will have cartoon pumpkins and apples that will be quite detailed, having a background that has lots of detail on it will make people look closer at the poster as they will want to see what it is. The writing on the posters is going to be brightly colored as this will make it stand out to the viewers. I am also going to change some of the words from the text’s color, this will highlight it and show the viewer that that is the most important part of the text, and will draw their attention to those words. The font that I use is going to be easy to read but still has a nice design, this is because I want the viewers to be able to read what the posters say but I still want it to look aesthetically pleasing. All three of the posters are going to have different themes and different graphic elements, this will make it so that they do not all look the same, also as they will all be differently styled it will mean that there will be posters for any of the viewers with different style tastes. I am also going to be making one of my posters look somewhat abstract, as this will intrigue the viewers and will make them want to go to the event.
  • 26. Timescales: Date Task to do What to do? Monday 14th May 1-2 lessons (3 hours) Create backgrounds for some of my posters Create apples and pumpkins out of shapes, then put them in a design to finish the background Monday 14th May 3-4 lessons (3 hours) Make the first poster, this will be the pumpkin patch one Do so by creating a boarder using shapes. Set out the writing and decide how it will all be laid out. Wednesday 15th May 2nd lesson (1 hour and a half) Start the next poster, which is the cat one Create the cat cartoon through partial manipulation of shapes and rotascoping a real picture of cat. Start to put together the poster Thursday 16th May 1-2 lessons (3 hours) Finish off the cat poster Finish putting together the cat poster using the pumpkin patch one as a reference. Decide on the layout of the poster, and how the words are going to be set up. Friday 17th May 1-2 lessons (3 hours) Create the apple hot air balloons poster Create a apple cartoon, using an image of real apple. Make a basket for the hot air balloon, yet again using a real image. Decide the layout, and what is going to be in the background.
  • 27. Timescales: I have not been given a deadline from my client, since the event that I made the posters for is in October. However my deadline for college was that everything had to be handed in for the 8th of June, this meant that I have 5 weeks overall for the project, it was split so I would have 2 weeks for pre production, 2 weeks for production and 1 week for evaluation. But I decided to have an extra week for preproduction and take 1 week off of production, since I could get the posters finished in a week easily. Also I chose to have the 2nd week of production to be the spare week, as it meant that if I did not have the posters finished in the week I gave myself it meant I had the time left over, and I could get the feedback in this week. My client is quite easy to get a hold of, as I could just go in or ask my mother as she works there. Also I have the emails of the people in charge of the company. To get feedback I am going to do so in the spare week that is in between production and evaluation that I left open for preproduction work, doing so will give them a week to give me feedback before I start my evaluation.
