3. Mind Maps/Brainstorms
• Idea 1 would be to redesign the front of the shop, as I
was told by the people who work there it would be a
good idea to come up with a concept for a new front to
shop, because that is the first thing which attract
customers and if it dull they will be lowering the amount
of customers which they will get, and also I will have to
grab their attention straight away maybe by using bright
vibrant colours and designs which represent what they
make. Also by changing the front it would effect the
type of audience which come in because I make it so
that both the younger and older generation are
intrigued and want to find out more. And with the front
of the store needing changing I could go through many
different experiments when it came to the theme
because I could go down the route of the historic eras
which bakery was a key factor in for example in Egypt or
the romans, this would give me so many ideas and
designs to make which would completely change the
entire the store and peoples opinions on it. As well the
final thing about making the front of the store would be
that it isn't regularly changed because they wouldn't
need to, and I could change it so that it would be viable
all year round.
4. Mind Maps/Brainstorms
• Idea 2 would have to be to redesign their website as all
though it is kept up to date it still have things which
could be improved ever so slightly, also with the website
I could give my own input to the theme of the bakery
because I could go down the more pre-historic look or
more modern which would work with the younger
generation and the other one would appeal to both I
think. Also with the website I could use pictures which
they could also use for their social media because they
are at the moment quite dull and could be changed
drastically, as they don’t keep to the theme of what they
offer to their customers which is unlike most companies.
As well by remaking the website it will test my skills as I
am not very good at websites which look very nice and I
know by making myself to make one it will give me skills
for the future. Also I would need to think of the user
friendly aspects because if the struggle to use it they are
less likely to want to look at what they have to offer, and
also as the younger generation are more tech savvy I
think that they don’t have the largest audience on the
internet because there population is quite old. So to
make sure that I keep the attention I will need to make
it visually appealing to everyone so they continue to
look through the website.
5. Mind Maps/Brainstorms
• Idea 3 I want to try and make a poster because they
could be plastered around the entirety of York which
would increase their attraction to the store significantly
as they don’t have posters because they do more work
instore and would prefer people to find out about the
store through other people. Also by making them a
poster from scratch I will be able to make something
which I like and would like my client to like, and also the
poster could just scratch the surface of what they have
to offer, which leaves a lot to be determined and found
out. Also by designing a poster for them to potentially
use I would be able to come up with many different
designs as I would have a better opinion on which one
would work the best as they have never had a poster for
their bakery. Also like I said with both the website and
the front cover to the store I will have different ideas
based around the different themes as I could make
them the same as each other or I could make a variety
of different ones but I would try and make the website
and front cover work well with the poster as I wouldn't
want to have one look out of place.
6. Idea Evaluation
Which of your ideas do you want to develop further? Explain why you think that is
the right idea to take forward.
I would like to develop the idea of the front of the store further because there are
hundreds of combinations which I could make because I don’t think I could make
something which will work to everyone interests so I will not be able to make
everyone happy. And also with the front of the store I could completely change
everything that they have made because they don’t change it, as well I think that It
will be a lot more interesting in comparison to making a website or a poster because it
will be something which I have never done before as I do more media side and
graphics design. But although this is the one which I want to develop i think that the
second thing which would be fun to develop would have to be the website as there is
a lot of depth which I can go through in comparison to a poster as there are many
different pages and a lot of text throughout it.
7. Developed Idea 1
For the colour scheme for the shop I will
be going for a very natural look because
I wanted to get some browns and dark
reds because It will match the autumn
feel to it because I have looked in their
shop and website for a their colour
theme and wanted to keep it with the
same style because I wanted to stay
with the same colours. At the same time
as using quite dull colours I might use
some accents of really bright and
vibrant colours as this will change to
whole theme of their store. One colour
which I wanted to use would have to be
green /blue because I really like the
theme of Celtic and the main colour
would be green. For the front of their
shop a colour which I want to get rid of
will be Earth yellow as I really don’t like
it because it is very dull and boring, and
also it doesn’t really work with any of
the colours which I wanted to use.
This is my favorite of all of the
colour schemes because it is
the most out there, because as
well as sticking with the
browns for the bread it has
some bright colours which will
completely change the feel to
the shop as they have very
minimal colour.
8. Developed Idea 1
For the fonts for all of the products which I hope to make I want to
use two main fonts as with the existing company there are loads of
fonts which they have used which I think is a little excessive and
could simply go with one or two. For the fonts I wanted a mix
between serif and san-serif because I wanted to use a serif title for
each of the things and then have the san-serif underneath it
because It will really contrast it. Out of these fonts which I have
chosen to use I think that I like Morris Roman the best because it
links with the theme of Celtic and pre-historic because I wanted it
all to link with the bread, because with this font they are very
peculiar and out of the ordinary which will help for it to stand out,
and then the other font which I wanted to use for the san-serif
would have to be TS Gaunt because it is very simplistic and also I
feel like this one will not need to stand out and it could be used on
everything which I am hopefully going to make for them.
I leaning away from this font because I don't think
that It will fit with the theme of the bakery, and also
I don’t really like all of the little smudges which
have been added because it may be quite difficult
to read, which would be a problem for the older
generation.
9. Developed Idea 1
For the main part of my client project I will try and redesign the
front of the store via Photoshop, but to do so I will have to try
and get photos of the store when there are no reflections
because it will be easier to super impose. Although it wont look
super realistic as long as I have tried to make an effort in it to try
and change there whole theme I think that it will show that
progression which I have made and this will be a new skill which
I will have learnt. I want to change the front of the bakery
because I was told that they where going to re-paint in the
coming weeks and I felt like I could give them my own look on a
rebranded version of their shop, because this could persuade
them to use my design. For the theme I will be going for a very
Celtic/roman style because it links back to the bread. In
Photoshop I will need to look up tutorials to find out how to
super impose the different design because this is something that
I have neve done before which Is good thing to learn, I still want
it to look realistic. When I change it i will be using a colour
scheme of my choice to change what they have, also I will be
changing the font as they have loads of different fonts scattered
around which is strange because you would only expect them to
have either 1 or 2 which is the normal amount.
10. Developed idea 1
This is an experiment on how I can do the
overlay and this is what it could somewhat look
like, I found out to do this by the you tuber
TutorVidCom, this is the link :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjVHM0PCx
hE.
This was helpful as I had no clue how to do this
specific style, but I still want to try and make it
look realistic as at the moment it looks terrible
and could be improved massively which is
something I will strive to achieve in the next
coming weeks.
11. Developed Idea 2
This is a mockup for a rebranded logo
for their company, as this is one thing
which I wanted to change because
with there original it is very plain and
simple with no colour what so ever, so
I wanted to make sure if I did it again I
could add my own perspective on it.
For this one which I have quickly made
I think that it is very nice as I have
stuck with leaf/corn theme which Is
something I made sure I had done,
because I didn’t want to make it really
abstract because people may not like it
which Is the main reason they have
their own logo. The last about this logo
I have made would be that I changed
the font up a little and I will try and use
this exact font in nearly everything
that I rebrand, because they initially
had loads of different fonts which Isn't
good because it just gets cluttered.
I don’t really like their logo because it has
nothing to it, and it doesn’t pop out to the
audience but they may have wanted to keep
it simple because of the type of audience
which they have, but I don’t think this gives
them a reason to have such a simple and
personally boring logo. There is also
something about the font which I don’t like
because I know it is suppose to be eye
catching as it is bold, but I don’t think that it
should be layed out like that and also you
should keep it the same size through out. The
final tweak which I want to make to this
design would have to be the little piece of
corn on the top as there main part of it
because it’s the same as the text and there
no colour, and also it is just plain and bland,
which wouldn't intrigue a larger audience
because the new generation want something
which pops out at you and grabs your
attention straight away.
For this design this one is the most
out there and is completely different
in comparison to the other two, I
chose to do this experiment because I
wanted to have a look at the different
possibilities there could be without
having a logo, also I with this one I
experimented on the wording
because I don’t know which one I
want to emphasize because as you
can see I have one which has “Haxby”
in large letters and the “Bakehouse”
in small letters, but then I reversed in
the second one because I haven't
asked my client what they would
prefer, so if I where to make this I
would make sure that I talk to them
before creating something like this.
12. Developed Idea 2
For this section of my development Idea I have continued on making different experiments,
the reason behind making more would have to be that I wanted to look at different styles of
design, and wanted to look through all of them at a latter stage. The two written designs are
very similar to their current design because it is very plain and boring, as I don’t have
anything eye catching for the audience and also it is plain black and nothing vibrant which
the public would enjoy as the younger generation are intrigued but at the same time as they
have quite an older generation they are bothered about the coloring and want something
which is quite bold, and gets straights to the point which my one which I have made will be
aimed more towards them.
Something which I haven't experimented with would have to be that I haven't done any
designs which include san-serif because I wanted to have serif as the main font for all of the
designs, but I think If I did ones with san-serif I could go down a whole different route and
find out things which work better with this style of font in comparison to the other. Also I had
to get rid of many fonts as they were not very legible at all.
For this design I have gone for the very
plain look by getting rid of the logo as I felt
like I need to show my ideas without it,
also even though I think that these
contrast with the shop I don’t think that
they will get the same kind of attraction
which they already have because it is quite
boring and could need improvement
13. Assessment of final ideas
Suitability for audience:. Do you think your audience will engage with your ideas?
I do think that my audience will engage with my ideas because they will want something new
from this bakery as they haven't really seen much over the last couple years, also I think that I
will get a larger audience as I will mainly try and focus it towards the older generation I will
include things which may interest the younger generation as that is not their main priority for
the shop.
Suitability for client: Does your idea fulfil the brief your client gave you?
I did not receive a brief from my client as they didn't know what they wanted, but they gave
hints at something which I could, this being the front of the shop and a sandwich menu.
Which was very plain and I think that my ideas will fulfil what they have hinted at because
they don’t know what I am going to make for them.
Timescales: Is your project practical and manageable in the time you have?
In my own opinion I think that my time it manageable because I don’t really have much to do
outside of college besides collect images of the shop and then once I have done that I wont
have to go back there until the last week or so as I will want their feedback for my evaluation,
as I need their personal opinion on my work whether or not they like it or dislike it.
14. Production Schedule:
Week/Day Monday Wednesday Thursday
Week 1 On the first day of production I
will try and gather the
information which I need to
create the poster/shop, as I will
need a copy of what to write
down. For example I will be
getting the types of food which
they have to offer and also the
pricing, location and address.
On the second day I will try and get a
camera so that I can go and collect
photos, to use for the rebranding of
the shop and also to put images into
the poster. But during college I will
start the process of designing the
layout of the poster.
For the final day of the first week I am going to finish
of the layout of the poster, because I will need to get
the design made before I enter the photos, also as I
wont complete fully by that day I will continue to
think about it, and finally I will write the production
diary for the week. I need the production diary to
show what I have done throughout the whole week
which will help with my final grade.
Week 2 For the second week I will start
by nearly completing the poster
of, but I will have many
different drafts of the poster
before I completely finish it and
find the right one for my
project.
On the next day I will start drafting
up a menu for the bakery, because I
will need to make sure that I finish It
by either this week or the next week.
In the menu I will be using the
information which I got from the first
week, also by making different drafts
I will get my best piece of work.
For the 3rd day I will try and get some feedback on the
work which I will have done for both the poster and
the menu, the reason why I want to this will be
because it will give me information on what I could
improve and what is good about it, also I will make
my production diary for the entire week. Finally I will
continue to make designs for my menu and use some
of the images I have taken.
Week 3 For the start of the second to
last week I will try and
completely finish off my menu
designs so that I can continue
on to rebranding the front of
the shop. Also I will work to the
feedback on the menu as I want
to get a good grade for my
production.
I will start my Front of shop designs
on the 7th day as this will be the most
time consuming process of the entire
production as I think that It will be
very complicated to make it look the
way I want because I think that it will
look quite cartoony which I don’t
really want, as I need the client to
understand what I am trying to make
for them.
On the 8th day I will be still making the shop but I will
be trying lots of different things and also I might get
feedback on what they think I could make and how to
do those to the best of my ability.
Also outside of college on this day I might try and
show my work to my client to ask them for their
personal feedback on my work and see what they like
and dislike as I will need to contact my client.
Week 4 I will try and finish my front of
the shop because I want to start
evaluation early, once I have
finished the shop then I will go
back through my feedback and
change it so that I have
something which I am proud of.
I will try and start my evaluation if I
haven't finished my production as I
want to have as much time as
possible on my evaluation as I want
to get a distinction for this and my
production as I got a merit
previously.
For the final day I will go through of my production
work so far and see if I am proud of my work and I
want this to be something I pass onto my client, then
once I have done this I will continue with my
evaluation so that I have enough time to finish it.
