3. Advantages of sourcing images this way:
You have a reliable source of where the images are from and will most likely
have evidence of who the photographer is and where the images were taken,
rather than having a few different sources from online. When sourcing images
through books you’ll tend to get multiple options of the same photographer, with
the same theme you’re looking for, in one go with a guarantee that the images
will be by the same photographer rather than getting multiple options and
sources from online not knowing if it will be by the same photographer.
Disadvantages of sourcing images this way:
The internet is a faster way of searching for an image quickly. If you are wanting
to look up a photographer without having to go searching in a library or
bookstore it is a faster way of sourcing images. As well as the fact the
photographer, and/ or their images, may be obscure and from a different era so
you might not be able to find books with their images in them, at least not a lot
of them at one time so looking them up online might be easier because there is
more chance of finding someone who has found all of them and put them onto
one website.
5. Advantages of sourcing images this way:
It’s a fast way to look up photographs, whether or not you are wanting to look up
someone or something specific. You are more likely to come up with a range of
different imagery from said photographer(s) that you weren’t intentionally
looking for to begin with. Looking up images online also allows you to act
quickly rather than searching for physical copies of the sources you are looking
for, there’s much more time saved from looking up an image online to going out
to find it.
Disadvantages of sourcing images this way:
The sources to which you find may not be reliable. There is a good chance that
you will find an image and there will be a description on the artist but there isn’t
a confirmation to who the artist is. The photographer descripted for the image
might not be the right one. And there is not guarantee to whose images are
whose when doing a Google Image search because it’ll show recommended or
similar images to said photographer or photo that you’re looking for.
8. Advantages of sourcing images this way:
Sources photos through stock images is a good way to get high quality images
of what you’re looking for at a large quantity. There will also be of a variety that
is from all over the world looking at different types of angles and places taken
professionally.
Disadvantages of sourcing images this way:
The disadvantages of sourcing photographs through stock images is that there
can be copyright issue. Without purchasing these images there can be
problems with ownership. If you were to present these or use them without the
photographer knowing you could be fined for using them with out purchasing or
permission.
10. Advantages of sourcing images this way:
When taking, and using, your own images you have full ownership on them.
Depending on what you are taking photographs as well, logos or images of
someone else's property or design, will mean that you are less likely to be fined
or accused for copyright issues. You will also have freedom to how you want
your images to look like as well. If you’re wanting a specific look or location of
an image and can’t find it online you will have a unique image and tailored to
what you are looking for.
Disadvantages of sourcing images this way:
If you’re not a professional photographer you still might not be able to get the
images you are wanting to achieve. Especially if you don’t have a professional
camera and are taking them on your phone they could come out grainy and/ or
blurred.
16. Advantages of different resolutions:
The advantages of different resolutions is that knowing what resolution you are
keeping your images depending on size or style, e.g. web or photo, helps you
know what images work and what images work depending on their quality.
Changing an image to different resolutions helps give the creator the image
quality that they’re wanting, whether that be clearer or more pixelated.
Disadvantages of different resolutions:
The disadvantages of having different resolutions is that it can limit the image
choice that you are wanting to use depending on what resolution you are
working with. Using a resolution of 300 dpi for print shows the image(s) in clear,
high quality. However, the same image can come out pixelated and unclear with
72 dpi for print. So different resolutions can show poorer quality based on which
one is used for different images and purposes.
18. Explain the changes you made to the image and explain why you made
those changes:
The changes that I had made to the image was firstly by warping the image
(Edit> Transformation> Warp) to alter the images perception to look distorted
and strange for the viewer to see. When warped the edges of the image had
been taken away so I changed the scale (Edit> Transformation> Scale) so that
there was no white space. Too add more emphasis on the colours in the image
I adjusted the Brightness/ Contrast as well as the Hue/ Saturation to show the
brighter colours more vibrantly and the darker tones in the image to be even
darker. Following this I continued to experiment on the image with different
filters and went with ‘Dust & Stretches’ Filter> Noise> Dust & Stretches) to give
more of a painted effect to the image.
