2. Production techniques research
• Research potential production techniques you might want to use or
feel would be most appropriate – these can be related to camera,
editing, story, sound, etc
• You should look at a minimum of 3 related products in your research.
• You should collect clips/still images/how to guides/etc that might
help you. When watching scenes from films, etc you could also ask
potential target audience what they think.
• You may need to add extra slides!
• With each technique you should assess whether you can use it or
how you might employ or why you may want to disregard it
completely
• Always think about your investigations links to your intentions and
production!
3. Product 1
I could recreate this shot easily because there are plenty of similar locations in my
local area . A negative is the lighting will be hard to get right
5. Product 3
• The use of props in this
scene is an element I want
to use in my music video (
not specifically the throne
but the aspect of props)
• The camera angle low to
high with the main
character, Kendrick Lamar
in this case, center screen
6. Genre and artist breakdown
• Think about the conventions of music video and which of these you
feel are the most appropriate for you video and why
• Think about the genre characteristics for your chosen artist – how do
you plan to employ these?
• Which techniques and styles do you think fans of your chosen genre
prefer? What should you expect to see in that type of music video?
• Use the following slides to show your ideas and explain these using
good illustrative examples – this is where your research and
explorations should start. Remember to consider the aspects we
looked at in class [and the academic things from Goodwin, etc].
7. Conventions
• conventions within music video’s change depending on the type of
music (genre) some basic codes and conventions are;
• The performance
• Narrative
• The camera
• Editing techniques
• Sound effects
8. Genre Characteristics
• The narrative in most grime music video is realism. Most grime
videos are reflective of their grind and show scenes that people all
over the country can relate to.
• Urban areas are predominantly used to show struggle and help
connect the artist to the demographic of young people who live a
similar life that the artist has “come up” from
9. Chosen approach/justification
• I've gone for a realism style of music video to accompany the grime
genre as it synonymous with the underground scene since the rise of
London artists, such as skepta, JME and giggs in the early 2000’s
• This style involved heavily urbanised areas usually large groups of
young people wearing designer clothes such as Canada goose and
stone island
10. Experiments
Camera/Editing/Audio Experiments
This is for you to evidence the filming and editing tests we did.
Be prepared to add extra slides.
You can add more experiments as you do them as the project progresses.
11. Experiment 1 - Process
My first experiments were blurry and not in focus because
the light was too dim
13. Experiment 2 - Process
This shows how my experiments weren't
successful however I used these to make my
final product better learning from my
mistakes
14. Reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you include in your final
product? What about this process has been notable [positive and
negative]?
• My experiments showed me what not to do and I learned how to use
the equipment better
• Necessity to check weather conditions to avoid disaster
