century AD, beginning with the stupa in
the current cave 5
• Have inscriptions in Brahmi and
Devanagari script
• In the 10th-11th century AD, the Vajrayana
sect, established cave 10 with their
deities Akshosabhya and
Mahachandroshana
• Shiva and Ganpatya worshipping started
during Silahara rule
• Cave 14 has deities of Nath Pantha
• Cave 19 has Shivlinga in it and Hindu
scriptures on its ceiling
• Cave 29 was used by Nath Pantha and

• Kanakadurg is part of Fatehgad fort located

• Built to protect Suvarnadurg along with
Fatehgad and Gove
• Kanakadurg, built on ahuge rock and these
are rocks steps to ascend the fort
• Only the walls and bridge joining
Kanakadurg are remained till now

ST. ANNE’S CHURCH
• Built during the era of Maratha-Peshwa by the
Portuguese engineers came for repair works of
the Suvarnadurg fort
• Previously known as, Firangi Church
• St. Ann was mother of Mary, mother to Lord
Jesus. Hence the church was named after her
• Worship place for Catholic people

10. KADYAVARIL GANAPATI

• Kadyavarcha Ganapati = Ganapati on
cliff
• This temple was originally constructed
using wooden pillars
• renovated between 1768 and 1780
• Ujwya Sondecha Ganpati (Marathi:
right-trunked Ganpati).
• The idol is also said to be a Jagrut
Daiwat (Marathi: live deity)
• The temple has a stone staircase on
the right to reach the top of the temple
(the Kalas)
• As per the fables, this temple was at
the seashore in the ancient days.
