3. 1. HISTORY OF EAST GODAVARI DISTRICT
 It was reorganised in 1859 and was bifurcated into Godavari and Krishna districts.
During British rule, Rajahmundry was the headquarters of Godavari District, which was
further bifurcated into East Godavari and West Godavari districts in 1925.
 When the Godavari district was divided, Kakinada became the headquarters of East
Godavari and Eluru became headquarters of West Godavari.
 After the fall of the Mauryan Empire, the district was under the Satavahanas until the
3rd century under the famous poet king Haala.
 The “Godavari district” was formed with its headquarters at Rajamundry later the
district was divided into two East Godavari and West Godavari at its headquarters at
Eluru but the district headquarters of East Godavari was shifted from Rajamundry to
Kakinada.On 4 April 2022 the East Godavari again divided in two Kakinada and East
Godavari,Kakinada remains the district headquarters of Kakinada district and again the
district headquarters was shifted to Rajamundry.

GODAVARI DISTRICT
 According to the 2011 census east godavari has a population
of 5,154,296.
 This gives it a ranking of 19th in india (out of a total of 640
districts) and 1st in the state.
 Its population growth rate over the decade 2001-2011 was
5.1%.
 East godavari has a sex ratio of 1005 females over every 1000
males, and literacy rate of 71.35%.

 CULTURAL TOURISM
1. Kakinada Beach Festival
The center of attraction during the 4 day event will be the actors and guests from telugu film industry. The horticulture
from kadiyam adds more color to the festival
2. KONASEEMA FESTIVAL
Konaseema utsav is celebrated in a grand manner at muramalla village, polavaram mandal. Thousands of people
participate in the fest. The utsav showcases the beauty and culture of this area.
3.MANYAM JATARA
It is a 3 day fair which reflects the customs, tradition and culture of tribal community. Food items and different varieties of
bamboo products would be exhibited during the festival.
4. PERURU
It is a small village located near amalapuram in East godavari. It’s filled with huge mansions which are quiet old and
heritage houses.
5. PANDAVA METTA
A hillock nearer to peddapuram, small town in this district. This hillock tells us about the period of pandavas

11. 1.Coringa wildlife Sanctuary
 Coringa is located in the near kakinada eastgodavari Andhrapradesh india.
 It is the third largest stretch of mangrove forests in India with 24 mangrove tree species and more
than 120 bird species.
 It also stabilizes the coastline, reducing erosion from storm surges, currents, waves, and tides.
 It is located between 16°-30’ to 17°-00’ N latitudes and 82°-14’ to 82°-23’E longitudes.
 This wildlife sanctuary is spread across 235 square kilometres(58,200 acres). There are wide wooden
bridges built through the dense forest lands that allow you to walk through the forest looking at
Flora and Fauna.
 Coringa is one the tourist place in kakinada and the mangrove are very helpful to city by protecting
from cyclones and hevay winds., this is the 3nd largest mangrove forest in india.
 The Coringa Wildlife Sanctuary is open during timings 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM every day, and takes up
about 3-4 hours to explore, so it is suggested that visitors reach early. It costs INR 20 for adults and
INR 10 for children to enter this sanctuary. Boating per person cost INR 90.

13. 2.ANNAVARAM SRI SATYANARAYANA SWAMY
TEMPLE
 Annavaram is a temple town on the banks of the Pampa River. It is located in near tuni from 18kms.
 The village has the temple of Veera Venkata Satyanarayana, a form of Vishnu on the Ratnagiri Hill.
 Anna translates to food in Telugu, the local language and the place was known for distribution of food,
which might have given the settlement its name as Annavaram.
 This temple was constructed in the Dravidian style in the year of 1891 by Raja Ramanarayana, the then
zamindar of Gorsa and Kirlampudi estates. It is said that the Lord came into his dream and ordered the
temple construction. He traced the idol on the hill, worshipped it and installed it at the present spot.
Subsequently the temple was reconstructed during 1933-34 and during 2011-2012. According to
history, Sri Krishnadevaraya of Vijayanagara used the secret underground passages in the hills to attack
the enemy during his invasion of Kalinga. Alluri Seetharama Raju used the secret quarters in these hill
ranges, when he rebelled against the British Rule.

14. 3.THALUPULAMMA THALLI LOVA AND
BEACHES IN KAKINADA
 Sri thalupulamma Ammavari Temple is located at lova village
in tuni.
 It is located on a Hillock between Darakonda and
theegakonda.
 One can find quite a rush on sundays, tuesdays, thursdays,
special bond with this temple as they believe strongly that
goddess thalupulamma ammavaru will protect them from
Accidents, Dangers, and will also help in earnings profits.
 Uppada beach, pedduru beach, Ntr beach are there. Indias
first Glass Bridge in kakinada.

15. 4.ANTARVEDI BEACH AND TEMPLE
 Godavari river has two arms at the end where it meets bay of bengal at yenar and antarvedi.
 Antarvedi was named in honour of the Lord as Narasimhashetra. Antarvedi surroundings in
beach and light house is also there.
 Lord sri Lakshinarasimha swamy temple, located opposite vasishta godavari, the second
varanasi by the grace of the Lord.
 There will be fair during january Or february (Bhishma Ekadashi day) when narasimha swamy
kalyanam is celebrated.

16. 5.PAPIKONDALU TRIP
 Papi hills are a set of three hills which from a beautiful gorge on the godavari river spread across
east and west godavari districts.
 The original name for this hill range was PAPIDI KONDALU.
 The boat journey takes about 8 hours to visit papihills.
 Papikonda national park, perantala palli, pattisam, kolluru Bamboo Huts these all are in places to
visit in between this trip.

17. 6.DRAKSHARAMAM TEMPLE
 Draksharama is one of the five pancharama kshetras that are sacred to the hindu God siva
 Bhimeswara swamy refers to Lord siva in this temple and Manikyamba devi temple is in that
Bhimeswara swamy temple primises.
 Bheemeswara swami temple is a big temple which was renovated by eastern chalukyas.
Temple has a pushkarini called”Sapta Godavari” Where sapta rishis brought waters from
seven different rivers to create it.

25. Conclusion
 I only visited top 10 tourist places but so many places are there. You try To cover all
the places in East godavari district.
 Konaseema is looking like Kerala. So if you visit east godavari district it is
compulsory to visit konaseema also
 East godavari is also known as rice bowl of Andhra Pradesh.
 Yanam is not in east godavari district but union territory there are many tourist
places in yanam. So i suggest you to visit Yanam when ever you visit East Godavari
