5. Structure: Past simple tense
Affirmative: Subject + past simple verb (- ed )or irregular
verbs
Example: I liked Somchai. / She went to school
yesterday.
He was hungry. / They were late.
Negative: Subject + didn't (did not) + the infinitive without
to
Example: I liked Somchai. = I didn’t like him.
I went to school. = l didn’t go school yesterday.
Subject + was/were + not + comp lime
Example: I was hungry. = I wasn’t/ was not hungry.
They were late. =They weren’t/ were not late.
Question: (question word) + did + subject + simple form
Examples: Did you go school? / Why did you like
Somchai? / Were you late?
Usage
6. The past simple tense can be used for most past actions;
1. Actions that happened over time or habits.
Example: I often visited this park.
2. Actions that happened in the past.
Examples: He saw this movie yesterday.

29. Direction: Work in pair. Decide with your partner if
he/she wants to be A who went the concert or B who
didn’t go to the concert. If you are A, you have to ask B
questions for his/her excuses for not going to the
concert. If you are B, you have to ask A questions for
going to the concert, who did he/she see, and what
he/she did at the concert. Start to ask questions when
you hear the music, ask as many people as you can
until the music is stopped.
For example:
A: Why didn’t you come to the concert last
night?
B: I didn’t come to the concert last night
because I was sick.
Did you go to the concert? Who did you
see? What did you do?
A: I saw Body Slam concert at Sir kit Hall.
I danced and sang all along the concert. I
enjoyed it a lot.
