Life is like a mountain, hard to climb. But
once you get to the top the view is
beautiful…
Dear Reader,
Wish you a very warm welcome.
The 41st
issue of The MAGEX weekly has been
themed to the quality of generosity. Generosity in
general terms means goodness.
A generous individual will always respect the old
and show love and care for the young.
A generous individual will be kind hearted and
have mercy for the poor and help people
suffering from any kind of disability.
A generous person will not break the rules
anywhere he goes. A generous person will always
have the progress of his or her society and nation
rather than just filling their own desires and
selfish interests.
Generosity is not God – gifted. It is an attribute
that an individual develops with time. In most of
the cases, a family is responsible for making and
breaking a generous individual.
If we take a close look into the lives of successful
people, we will find one attribute as being
common among them that is generosity.
Generosity brings balance in the life as a result
people achieve unimaginable success. We may
find it difficult to be generous all the time, but at
the end generosity bears the fruits of peace,
success and happiness in our lives.
Thank you and all the very best!

A Generous Man
There was once a man who was very helpful, kindhearted, and generous…
He was a man who would help someone without asking for anything in return. He
loved giving, it was his nature.
One day, while walking into a
dusty road, he saw a purse, so he
picked it up and noticed that the
purse was empty.
Suddenly, a woman and a police
officer show up. They arrested
the man on suspicion of theft.
The woman asked the man,
where he hid the money.
He replied, “It was empty when I found it”.
The woman yelled at him, “Please give it back, it’s for my son’s school fees”.
The man noticed that the woman really felt sad, so he gave her all the money he had
on him.
He knew the woman was a single mother who was struggling.
The man said, “I didn’t take your money, but there is all I have, I hope it can help
you”.
The woman left, and the policeman held the man for further questioning…
The woman was relieved that she recovered her money but when she counted it,
she was shocked. Her money had doubled.
The man had given her twice the amount she had in her purse.
One day, while
she was on her
way to pay her
son’s school
fees, she noticed
a skinny, frail
man behind
her…
She thought that he may rob her, so she approached a policeman sanding nearby.
He was the same policeman, who she took along to inquire about her purse. The
woman told him about the man following her, but suddenly they saw that man
collapse.
They ran towards him and were shocked to realize it was the same man they
arrested a few days back for stealing the woman’s purse. He looked very weak, and
the woman was confused.
The policeman said to the woman, “He didn’t return your money; he gave you his
money that day. He wasn’t the thief but hearing about your son’s school fees, he felt
sad and gave you his money.”
They helped the man stand up. Then he said to the woman, “Please go ahead and pay
your son’s school fees, I saw you and followed you to be sure that no one steams
your son’s school fees”.
The woman was speechless…
“Do not judge by appearances; a rich heart may be
under a poor coat.”

rock) i, e, smoking rock. The Kaveri River flows in
a particular narrow gorge so narrow that it could
be easily leapt by a goat. Therefore, that place in
Hogenakkal is called Meka Dhattu (Goat`s leap).
The parisal is a round basket like boats, which
are availed by the visitors to feel the thrill of

Kalrayan Hills having tourist attraction like Megam Falls
and Periyar Falls Gomukhi Dam at the Kalrayan foot
hills. The Kalrayan Hills are a major range of hills situated
in the Eastern Ghats of the southern Indian state of Tamil
Nadu. Along with the Pachaimalai, Javadi, and Shevaroy
hills, they separate the Kaveri River basin to the south
from the Palar River basin to the north. The hills range in
height from 2000 feet to 3000 feet and extend over an
area of 1095 square kilometers. The hills straddle a
number of Tamil Nadu districts, extending northeast from
the Salem District. The range serves as a boundary
between the Salem and Villupuram districts. The
Kalrayans are divided into two sections — the northern
section, referred to as the Chinna ("little") Kalrayans, and
the southern section, called the Periya ("big") Kalrayans.
The Chinna Kalrayans average 2700 feet in height, while
the Periya Kalrayans average 4000 feet. The range as a
whole is fairly smooth, with soil well-suited for plant
growth. Scrub jungles reach up to 400 metres in altitude,
while deciduous forests can be found between above 800
metres. Sholas, a type of high-altitude stunted evergreen
forest, can be found growing on isolated plateaus. Though
the forest stand is growing, due to "habitat uniqueness,
human impacts and cultural tradition," conservation
efforts are needed.

Chera Dynasty
The Chera Dynasty was also
known as Keral Putra because
of its control over the state of
Kerala and to a lesser extent,
parts of Tamil Nadu in South
India. Along with the Ay
Kingdom in the south and the
Ezhimala kingdom in the north,
they formed the ruling
kingdoms of Kerala in the early
Sangam Age. Together with the
Cholas and the Pandyas, they
were one of the three major
kingdoms of Tamilakalam, the territory of the Tamils. It is evident that there were a few
noteworthy rulers in this dynasty like Cheran Senguttavan (mentioned in epics of Silapathigaram),
Neduncheralathan and Uthiyan Cheralathan .
The Chela dynasty started off in Tamil Nadu and
the town off Karur was their capital. Within no
time they expanded and captured the neighboring
state of Kerala crossing the Perar (Periyar) River.
Perumchottu Utiyan Cheralatan, a contemporary
of the great Chola, King Karikalan was the first
Chera ruler. He committed suicide after a
humiliating defeat at the hands of the Chola ruler
in the battle of Venni.
© The MAGEX Weekly
His son, Imayavaramban Nedum Cheralatan, another important Chera ruler, succeeded him.
During his long 58 years rule, he consolidated the Chera dynasty and extended its frontiers. He
inflicted a crushing defeat on his sworn enemies.
The greatest Chera King was Kadalpirakottiya Vel Kelu Kuttuvan, who is identified with the
mythical hero of the Silappadigaram (The Jewelled Anklet). Silappadigaram is one of the three
great Tamil epics of the Sangam Age. the great Tamil poet, Paranar, refers to his military exploits
including his famous victory at Mogur Mannan and Kongar.
The last known Chera ruler, Cheraman
Perumal converted to Islam and built
the first masjid (mosque) in India,
Cheraman Juma Masjid (right).
The Cheras had a well equipped army
which consisted of infantry, cavalry,
elephants and chariots. It was tradition
that the Chera rulers emerged
victorious in a battle to wear the anklets
made out of the crowns of the defeated
rulers.
The Dravidian style of architecture is the
characteristic South Indian style and is
mainly found in the Southern Indian
states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala,
Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The
Dravidian architecture may be mainly
seen through the temples; which were of
the various shapes such as square, rectangle, octagonal, star – shaped etc made from stones. They
were constructed by sandstone, steatite or granite.
Many Chera rulers were glorified in the ancient Sangam literature works. The most famous ruler of
the Chera dynasty was Cheran Senguttavan, who was the hero in one of the great tamil epics,
Silappathigaram. Few other collections of Tamil literature like Kalithogai, Pathitrupattu and
Ettuthogai mentions the bravery and valor of the Chera rulers. Mahabharata mentions that Chera
found the famous Kurukshetra war and that they were on the side of Pandavas. Hinduism was the
most prominent religion in the Chera dynasty.
The Cheras faded out of history by the 8th
century AD.

Storyline: Happy-go-lucky Sulochana (fondly known as
Sulu), a suburban Mumbai housewife, lives with her
husband, Ashok, a sales manager in a traditional
company that sells uniforms, and their 11-year-old son,
Pranav. Sulu keeps herself entertained through the day,
which includes listening to her favorite radio station and
taking part in every possible contest. Sulu breezes
through life with a fun and candid never-say-never
attitude. On a day like any other, Sulu ends up winning a
pressure cooker through a radio contest that she has
taken part in. Little does she know that her trip to the
radio station is about to change her life. In an unexpected
turn of events, she lands a job of an RJ (radio jockey). She
is no ordinary RJ for she is made to anchor a night show,
which involves chatting with peculiars, strangers and
lonely souls. A husband in constant battle at a mid-level
job, a precocious child who is up to something
alarmingly strange in school, and a woman who
unpredictably stumbles into the world of radio . Seasoned
with music, humour and quirk, Tumhari Sulu witnesses
the everyday grit of a housewife, a marriage put to test
and a world that struggles to see the beauty of a so-called
'simple, ordinary life'. From the team of Neerja, comes a
charming slice-of-life family feature, which will warm
the cockles of your heart.

  • 8. Dear Reader, Wish you a very warm welcome. The 41st issue of The MAGEX weekly has been themed to the quality of generosity. Generosity in general terms means goodness. A generous individual will always respect the old and show love and care for the young. A generous individual will be kind hearted and have mercy for the poor and help people suffering from any kind of disability. A generous person will not break the rules anywhere he goes. A generous person will always have the progress of his or her society and nation rather than just filling their own desires and selfish interests. Generosity is not God – gifted. It is an attribute that an individual develops with time. In most of the cases, a family is responsible for making and breaking a generous individual. If we take a close look into the lives of successful people, we will find one attribute as being common among them that is generosity. Generosity brings balance in the life as a result people achieve unimaginable success. We may find it difficult to be generous all the time, but at the end generosity bears the fruits of peace, success and happiness in our lives. Thank you and all the very best! Shoaib Makki T.J. • 16. A Generous Man There was once a man who was very helpful, kindhearted, and generous… He was a man who would help someone without asking for anything in return. He loved giving, it was his nature. One day, while walking into a dusty road, he saw a purse, so he picked it up and noticed that the purse was empty. Suddenly, a woman and a police officer show up. They arrested the man on suspicion of theft. The woman asked the man, where he hid the money. He replied, “It was empty when I found it”. The woman yelled at him, “Please give it back, it’s for my son’s school fees”. The man noticed that the woman really felt sad, so he gave her all the money he had on him. He knew the woman was a single mother who was struggling. The man said, “I didn’t take your money, but there is all I have, I hope it can help you”. The woman left, and the policeman held the man for further questioning… The woman was relieved that she recovered her money but when she counted it, she was shocked. Her money had doubled. The man had given her twice the amount she had in her purse.
  • 17. One day, while she was on her way to pay her son’s school fees, she noticed a skinny, frail man behind her… She thought that he may rob her, so she approached a policeman sanding nearby. He was the same policeman, who she took along to inquire about her purse. The woman told him about the man following her, but suddenly they saw that man collapse. They ran towards him and were shocked to realize it was the same man they arrested a few days back for stealing the woman’s purse. He looked very weak, and the woman was confused. The policeman said to the woman, “He didn’t return your money; he gave you his money that day. He wasn’t the thief but hearing about your son’s school fees, he felt sad and gave you his money.” They helped the man stand up. Then he said to the woman, “Please go ahead and pay your son’s school fees, I saw you and followed you to be sure that no one steams your son’s school fees”. The woman was speechless… “Do not judge by appearances; a rich heart may be under a poor coat.”

  • 32. Chera Dynasty The Chera Dynasty was also known as Keral Putra because of its control over the state of Kerala and to a lesser extent, parts of Tamil Nadu in South India. Along with the Ay Kingdom in the south and the Ezhimala kingdom in the north, they formed the ruling kingdoms of Kerala in the early Sangam Age. Together with the Cholas and the Pandyas, they were one of the three major kingdoms of Tamilakalam, the territory of the Tamils. It is evident that there were a few noteworthy rulers in this dynasty like Cheran Senguttavan (mentioned in epics of Silapathigaram), Neduncheralathan and Uthiyan Cheralathan . The Chela dynasty started off in Tamil Nadu and the town off Karur was their capital. Within no time they expanded and captured the neighboring state of Kerala crossing the Perar (Periyar) River. Perumchottu Utiyan Cheralatan, a contemporary of the great Chola, King Karikalan was the first Chera ruler. He committed suicide after a humiliating defeat at the hands of the Chola ruler in the battle of Venni. © The MAGEX Weekly His son, Imayavaramban Nedum Cheralatan, another important Chera ruler, succeeded him. During his long 58 years rule, he consolidated the Chera dynasty and extended its frontiers. He inflicted a crushing defeat on his sworn enemies. The greatest Chera King was Kadalpirakottiya Vel Kelu Kuttuvan, who is identified with the mythical hero of the Silappadigaram (The Jewelled Anklet). Silappadigaram is one of the three great Tamil epics of the Sangam Age. the great Tamil poet, Paranar, refers to his military exploits including his famous victory at Mogur Mannan and Kongar.
  • 33. The last known Chera ruler, Cheraman Perumal converted to Islam and built the first masjid (mosque) in India, Cheraman Juma Masjid (right). The Cheras had a well equipped army which consisted of infantry, cavalry, elephants and chariots. It was tradition that the Chera rulers emerged victorious in a battle to wear the anklets made out of the crowns of the defeated rulers. The Dravidian style of architecture is the characteristic South Indian style and is mainly found in the Southern Indian states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The Dravidian architecture may be mainly seen through the temples; which were of the various shapes such as square, rectangle, octagonal, star – shaped etc made from stones. They were constructed by sandstone, steatite or granite. Many Chera rulers were glorified in the ancient Sangam literature works. The most famous ruler of the Chera dynasty was Cheran Senguttavan, who was the hero in one of the great tamil epics, Silappathigaram. Few other collections of Tamil literature like Kalithogai, Pathitrupattu and Ettuthogai mentions the bravery and valor of the Chera rulers. Mahabharata mentions that Chera found the famous Kurukshetra war and that they were on the side of Pandavas. Hinduism was the most prominent religion in the Chera dynasty. The Cheras faded out of history by the 8th century AD. © The MAGEX Weekly
