Dear Reader,
Wish you a very warm welcome.
“There is nothing in this earth more to be prized than true
friendship”.
It is said that in order to judge a person, always see
his/her friends, you’ll find their exact character. A friend
is the most important asset to everyone. Everyone needs a
true friend.
Nowadays many people are being cheated upon in the
name of friendship. Today I would like to highlight a few
characteristics of your true friend – Accepts you, is
dependable, trustworthy, honest, always listens to you,
would be there for you, gives you space, always keep in
touch, does not gossip about you, would be happy for you,
and will always be supportive. In short,
“A true friend is one who upon seeing a fault gives you
advice and who defends you in your absence.”
So those who have these characteristics among your
friends, kindly believe them and do not hurt or cheat
them.
For all our subscribers who are obviously my friends,
Don’t be sad
Don’t be mad.
You’re my friend right to the end,
Won’t break your heart,
We’ll never apart.
Our friendship is a gift
You’ll never wonder if,
I’ll always be there
I really… really care!
Happy Friendship Day!

The Model 3 still has plenty of pickup, effortlessly
jumping from zero to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds in
the upgraded version, which gets a stunning 310
miles on a charge. It’s nimble, comfortable, and has
tight steering that’ll keep you grinning. The seats
embrace you in a gentle hug that feels a bit more
geared for road trip than racetrack. It’s the Model S
on a diet, making up in practicality what it loses in
extravagance. The fact that this car still looks, drives,
and feels like a Tesla—at a starting price of
$35,000—shows how far the Silicon Valley
automaker has come. It’s still an expensive vehicle
for many of Tesla’s biggest fans, and compelling
options packages will drag a lot of stretch spenders
into uncomfortable territory. But at current battery
prices, Tesla is setting a new standard for value in an
electric car—which of course was Musk’s plan all
along.
The minute you approach the Model 3, you realize
you’re in for a new sort of car experience. The
auto’s elegant, flush door handles swivel into your
palm with the light press of a thumb. The ethereal
swoop of metal feels surprisingly solid. The car
doesn’t have a key, or a key fob. Instead it syncs to
your phone through a Bluetooth connection and will
automatically unlock as you approach. The backup
in case your phone dies or you need to hand it off to
a valet is a thin key card that you can keep in your
wallet. Swipe it on the car’s B pillar to unlock it, and
place it on the center console to turn the
car on. Tesla is getting better at building cars. Unlike
early versions of the Model S and X, the Model 3 is
built to be a daily driver, with plenty of cup holders,
door pockets, and console storage. The materials of
the arm rests and doors feel ready for abuse. And the
stitched synthetic material used for the premium
seats is different than leather, but not inferior.

The Zhiyun Crane 3-axis gimbal is designed for
mirrorless cameras as well as compact DSLRs, and it has
a maximum payload of nearly 1.8 Kgs. So, if you’re
looking forward to attach one of your long zoom lenses,
this is not really the gimbal you should be going for.
Excluding the battery, the gimbal unit weighs just 950
grams. That being said, the Crane V2 boasts an advanced
slip-ring technology on all the three axes of the gimbal,
thereby providing users with unlimited 360°x3 rotation
control and free angle choices for any gripping gestures
or camera placements depending on the way you intend
to shoot. The Crane features a unique dovetail slot
design that allows for balance adjustments with high
precision, for faster and convenient mounting. The
gimbal now has a large control panel with a four-way
joystick for tilting, panning and rotating the gimbal. In
addition to this, you have the camera/power button,
mode button and the shifter switch, which can be used
along with a USB cable that you additionally purchase,
in order to zoom in and out. Zhiyun Assistant is a
smartphone application that’s available for both
iOS and Android devices.
With the help of this app, you’ll be able to easily pair
your Zhiyun Crane with the help of Bluetooth, thereby
letting you completely control the gimbal, without even
having to actually touch it. Once you open up the app,
you will be taken to the dashbard that showcases your
gimbal’s battery percentage. Here, you’ll be able
to calibrate, control and adjust the stabilizer settings. The
Zhiyun Crane packs 32-bit x 3 high-speed MCUs that
boasts a processing speed of up to 4000 MHz on its
independent built-in Inertial Measurement Unit, so
we’ve no doubts regarding the potential performance
levels of this gimbal stabilizer. Zhiyun has managed to
pack in as many features as they possibly could with the
Crane V2. Being compact and lighter compared to
several other gimbals on the market, the Zhiyun Crane
will even be suitable for the hardest shots in the tightest
spots. The gimbal is also capable of handling extreme
weather conditions, as its operating temperature ranges
from -10°C to 45°C.

In the simplest of its contexts, 5G refers to
the 5th Generation of the cellular technology.
Starting in the 1980s with 1G, our cellular
networks went through multiple evolution
stages to become what we see and use today.
Whenever there was a significant upgrade in
the cellular technology, carriers marked the
upgrade with a different generation. When ‘2G’
or the ‘second generation’ of cellular technology
was launched, it marked the adoption of the
digital system over the pre-existing analog
system. It also added mobile data in the form of
GPRS and EDGE.
1. Speed: 5G will bring a huge speed boost to
our data connectivity. The theoretical max
speed of 5G will be around 100 Gbps while
the minimum speed will be around 10 Gbps.
2. Latency: Latency refers to the delay occurring
between a user’s input and the execution of
his command. In terms of data transfer it can
be understood as the time it takes a packet of
data to travel from one point to another.
3. Capacity: Since the 5G will be utilizing a part
of the spectrum with high frequencies, its
data carrying capacity will be exponentially
higher. Add that to the fact that high-band
spectrum is still unused; we are looking at a
huge improvement in the data carrying
capacity.
4. Targeted Delivery of Data: The higher
frequency of the spectrum will allow 5G to
use “beam forming”. A technique in which
data is sent to required recipients in the form
of concentrated beams. This will allow the 5G
compatible antennas to direct higher data
throughput to places where it is required the
most.
5G! : Everything You Need To Know
Hathway: Impossible, but affordable Internet plans
Hathway isn’t as widespread as Airtel or BSNL,
but it does offer some pretty decent plans. One
of the most interesting things about Hathway is
that the plans are quarterly. So you play for
three months in one go. Like Airtel, Hathway’s
plans can change a lot depending on where you
are. One of the more interesting plans we
noticed was for around Rs 2,999 for three
months.
In Chennai, you can get about 150Mbps till
1000GB, after which the speeds will drop to
5Mbps. In Mumbai, you’ll get 50Mbps speeds
till 100GB, afterwhich the speeds will drop to
2Mbps. In Delhi you can choose between two
options for the same price. You can either get
50Mbps speeds with a FUP of 200GB and
2Mbps speeds post that, or you can get 10Mbps
with no FUP.
Facebook is reportedly working on a video chat device
similar to Amazon's Echo Show, which could be debuted
at next year's F8 developer conference. According to
Bloomberg, Facebook's video chat device will be the first
major hardware product from Building 8 lab. Facebook
announced Building 8 last year as an incubator for
developing new hardware and is being led by Regina
Dugan, a former Google executive and Director of
DARPA. The device is said to feature a laptop-sized
touchscreen display and may be a whole new product
category. The video chat device is aimed to be used in
the living room and is tipped to feature a display
measuring between 13 and 15 inches diagonally. It may
sport a wide-angle camera lens, array of speakers and
microphones powered by artificial intelligence for
improved performance. "The large screen and smart
camera technology could help far flung people feel like
they’re in the same room, which aligns with Chief
Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg's mission of
bringing Facebook users closer together," notes
Bloomberg.
The device is currently in the prototype phase is already
being tested in people's homes. It is also tipped to run a
version of Google's Android operating system. Facebook
is also said to be developing a 360-degree camera for
the device and testing a feature that would allow the
primary camera to automatically scan for people and
lock onto them. Apart from this video device, Facebook
is also said to be working on a standalone smart
speaker to compete with Amazon Echo and Google
Home. The company is said to be hiring engineers from
Apple to build a voice assistant similar to Siri. The voice
assistant will run on both these devices and the
standalone speaker could retail for as low as $100
(approximately Rs 6,500). However, people familiar
with the matter believe that Facebook could abandon its
smart speaker, since the segment has been popularized
by Amazon.

When Jobs was fired from Apple, he was quoted stating “I didn’t see
I then, but it turned out that getting fired from Apple was the best

RiyadhRiyadh is the capital of Saudi Arabia and the
main financial hub. It is the largest city of Saudi
Arabia with an area of about 1,798 sq. km. and
is situated on a desert plateau in the country’s
centre. The city’s name is derived from the
plural of Arabic rawdah, meaning gardens or
meadows, so named for a natural fertility
provided by its location at the juncture of
Wadis Hanifah and Al – Batha. Few of the
world’s cities have transformed as rapidly as
Riyadh which grew from a small, fortified
desert village in the 17th
century into a modern
metropolis of several million in habitants in the
20th
century.
The city of Riyadh is located approximately
1,950 ft (600 m) above sea level in Najd – a
region largely dominated by a rocky plateau
landscape in the center of the Arabian
Peninsula.
Riyadh’s climate is characterized by extreme
heat in the summer, with average temperatures
reaching above 100°F (40°C) and coolness in
winter, reaching below 50°F (10°C), though
there is a large difference between daytime and
night time temperatures.
The form and structure of the city has been
reinforced by a number of large – scale
construction projects undertaken in the latter
half of the 20th
century and in the early 21st
century.
A few amazing facts about Saudi Arabia:
 Saudi Arabia is the 13th
largest country in
the world and largest in the Middle East
with an area of about 83,000 sq miles
(2,149,690 sq. km.) equal to size of Western
Europe and ¼th the size of US.
 The Saudi’s King’s official title is “Custodian
of the Two Holy Mosques”. King Salman bin
Abdul Aziz is the present king since January
2015.
 The world’s largest tower Kingdom Tower is
to be inaugurated in 2019 in Jeddah which
will be at a height of 3,280 ft (1 km) and
will dwarf the Burj Khalifa in Dubai by 600
ft (183 m).
 Saudi Arabia is the world’s largest peninsula
and the largest country without a river.
 Riyadh’s camel market is one of the largest
in the world and sells about 100 camels per
day.
 Similar to Western damage settlements, the
Arab World has the tradition of diyya, or
blood – money payments, which come from
the Holy Quran as a more humane
alternative to settling eye – for – an – eye
disputes. Foreigners who plan to drive in
Arab countries, such as Saudi Arabia, are
encouraged to purchase to purchase
coverage for potential blood – money claims
as part of their regular auto insurance.
 Arabs call coffee gahwa, a word that later
became Arabic for ‘that which prevents
sleep’. The first coffee shops were probably
those which opened in Makkah around the
mid – 15th
to 16th
century.
 Saudi Arabia remains an absolute monarchy
and has the last significant monarchy in the
world. The country has been ruled by the Al
Saud family since its inception as a nation
on September 23, 1932.
 According to Forbes magazine, Saudi
Arabia’s former king (Late) Abdullah bin
Abdul Aziz was the 8th
most powerful
person in the world and world’s most
powerful Muslim.
 The King’s Cup, which pits up to 2,000
participants racing across a 19 km track, is
an epic camel race which takes place
annually during the Al – Jenandriyah
National Festival in Saudi Arabia.
 Saudi Arabian cities experienced an
extraordinary boom in property prices
between 2003 and 2008. In Makkah land
values close to the Grand Mosque reached
US $2,00,000 per sq. m. at the peak of the
boom – perhaps the most expensive real
estate in the world and rivaling land prices
in Tokyo in the early 1990s.
 Officially, Saudi women may not travel
abroad without the permission of their
husbands.
 Traditionally, non – Muslims could not be
buried within the borders of Saudi Arabia.
However, in 2012, the country eased burial
restrictions under certain circumstances.
 The Persian Gulf, as it is called on most
maps on the Middle East, is better known in
Saudi Arabia as the Arabian Gulf.
 Islam, the last of the world’s great religions
to get underway, originated in the Arabian
Peninsula in the 7th
century A.D. It is the
second largest religion in the world after
Christianity.
 Saudi Arabia is free from tax. Although a
small amount (2.5%) of the wealth is to be
paid by the Muslims as per Islamic Shariah
(Islamic Law).
 Apart from civil police force, it also has a
religious police force called the Mutaween
who monitor “Committee for the
Preservation of Virtue and for the
Prevention of Vice”.
 In 2011, King Abdullah announced that
women would be allowed to vote in 2015,
making Saudi Arabia the last nation on
Earth to allow women to vote.
 In 1985, Prince Sultan bin Salman became
the first Saudi, first Arab, and first Muslim to
travel in space when he rode aboard the U.S.
space Shuttle Discovery.
 King Abdul Aziz bin Rahman Al Saud or Ibn
Saud, father of the nation, crowned himself
as the king in 1932 after proclaiming
independence. Ibn Saud was granted a
knighthood in the Order of the Bath by
Queen Elizabeth of England in 1935.
Completed in 2002, The Kingdom Centre is the
3rd
tallest skyscraper in Saudi Arabia, with a
height of 302 meters and has 99 floors and is the
3rd
largest building in the world with a hole after
the Shanghai world Financial Center and Tuntex
Sky Tower. The tower covers an area of about
185,000 sq. m. (1,991,323 sq. ft.) and has 45
lifts/elevators. The total cost for the construction
of this tower was SAR 1.7 billion (US$ 453
million). The building has been called “the
necklace” of the city due to its unusual apex,
which features a circular – shaped opening. This
opening is called a “caternary arch” and is
common form seen in nature (Spider’s web).
The opening is often illuminated at night, in a
variety of colors. An observation deck at the top
of the Kingdom Centre lets you take a panoramic
view of the whole city. The Kingdom Center
houses the world’s tallest Masjid (Mosque), on
the 77th
floor. There is a special ladies – only
shopping area on the second floor called ‘The
Ladies Kingdom’.
Kingdom Tower
First to completion in May 2000 was the Al
Faisaliah Center, designed by architect Sir
Norman Foster and built by the Bin Laden
Construction company on behalf of HRH Prince
Bandar bin Saud bin Khaled. The tower was
Riyadh’s very first skyscraper, reaching a height
of 269 m (881 ft) – just taller than the UK’s
Canary Wharf. Owned by the King Faisal
Foundation, profits from the site are used to
underwrite philanthropic activities throughout
the world. Al Faisaliah, which has a square base
which tapers to a lantern at the summit, boasts a
5 – star 224 – bedroom hotel, 100 apartments
and 30 floors of office space. There are 44 floors
in total with 44 elevators. It’s most famous for its
enormous glass globe (24 m in diameter and
made of 655 glass panels) near the summit.
From this gallery on a clear day you can get the
most fantastic views of the capital and beyond.
The first 3 levels boast one of Riyadh’s most
popular shopping arcades with 180 stores –
including Harvey Nicholls and a selection of 25
fast food outlets on level three. Beneath the
ground level plaza is an enormous underground
room with the world’s largest single support
column – free concrete arch ceiling. This room is
used for hosting of prestigious wedding parties.
The building itself is clad in anodized aluminum
panels with large cantilevered sun shading
devices that minimize glare and allow the use of
non – reflective, energy efficient glass. And
inside, there is a 79 ft wide by 265 ft high
stained glass window by British artist Brian
Clarke which is the largest stained glass work
ever produced.

In the early hours of January 14, 1902, the
garrison inside the Masmak Fortress slept as the
forces of Abdul Aziz bin Abdul Rahman bin
Faisal Al Saud gathered and prepared for attack.
Taking the fortress by surprise, Abdul Aziz
captured the fort and took control of Riyadh, his
ancestral home after having lived in exile in
Kuwait. From this fortress, Abdul Aziz Al Saud
conquered and united the different kingdoms
and provinces that make up the modern
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The clay and mud-
brick fort was built around 1865 by the prince
of Riyadh Abdul Rahman ibn Sulaiman ibn
Dabaan under the reign of Mohammed ibn
Abdullah ibn Rasheed (1289–1315 AH), the
ruler of Ha’il to the north, who had wrested
control of the city from the rival clan of Al Saud.
It was used by King Abdul Aziz from 1902 to
1938 until a new palace was constructed.
The Saudi government made a series of
renovations in the 1980s as part of an effort to
restore and maintain artifacts important to Saudi
history. Visitors enter the fort from an open
plaza and through a palm tree gate that is 12
high by about 9 ft wide. The door features an
opening, called al-Khokha that is just big
enough for one person to pass at a time, a
defensive measure. Inside, the fort houses a
collection of historical artifacts, including guns
used in the assault along with a working well.
Like with any important building the fort houses
a small mosque for its occupants. The fort is
situated near busy streets, surrounded by a
bustling market or suq with shops selling
everything from clothes, jewelry; gold, tailored
suits, souvenirs, and a tasty treat simply called
Corn in a Cup. No visit to Masmak is complete
without a stroll through this wonderful market.

Riyadh is a city of particular significance in
history and politics for the Kingdom of Saudi
Arabia. The Riyadh Development authority is
undertaking massive feats of engineering of
unprecedented proportions to develop the city
infrastructure and public amenities. The Red
Palace was the previous residence of the King of
Saudi Arabia, which after use by several
government departments became the focus of an
international competition to rejuvenate the
building and grounds. This competition was
won by Tropman & Tropman architects of
Sydney, Australia with a fabulous design that
incorporated a modern museum building in to
the grounds that is connected by a stunning
glass atrium. The head of design, Tasman Storey
worked previously at Mirvac Design (HPA
Architects) and brings vast experience to the
international team.
Tropman & Tropman architects are no stranger
to working in Saudi Arabia and have a profound
understanding as to the sensibilities and customs
of the proud Arabic culture. A brand identity
was required for the palace so they had to start
with an audit of all Saudi government buildings
and established an opportunity for where the
brand could be positioned in the minds of the
people of Riyadh and the cities tourists.

TRUE
FRIENDSHIP
A voyaging ship was wrecked during a storm at sea and only two of the men on it were able to
swim to a small, desert like island. The two survivors have been good friends, not knowing
what else to do, agree that they had no other way but to pray God. However, to find out whose
prayer was more powerful, they divided the territory between them and stay on opposite sides
of the island.
The first thing they prayed was food. The next morning, the first man saw a fruit – bearing tree
on his side of the land, and he was able to eat its fruit. The other man’s parcel of land remained
barren. After a week, the first man was lonely and he decided to pray for a wife. The next day,
another ship was wrecked, and the only survivor was a woman who swam to his side of the
land. On the other side of the island, there was nothing.
Soon the first man prayed for house, clothes, more food. The next day, like magic, all of these
were given to him. However, the second man still had nothing. Finally the first man prayed for
a ship, so that he and his wife could leave the island. In the morning he found a ship docked at
his side of the island. He considered the other man unworthy to receive God’s blessings since
none of his prayers had been answered.
As the ship was about to leave, the first man heard a voice from heaven booming, “Why are
you leaving your companion on the island?”
“My blessings are mine alone since I was the one who prayed for them,” the first man replied.
“His prayers were all unanswered and so he does not deserve anything”.
“You are mistaken!” the voice rebuked him. “He had only one prayer, which I answered. If not
for that, you would not have received any of my blessings”.
“Tell me,” the first man asked, “What did he pray for that I should owe him anything?”
“He prayed that all your prayers be answered.”
“A true friend is one who thinks you are a good egg even if you are
half – cracked”

It’s nimble, comfortable, and has tight steering that’ll keep you grinning. The seats embrace you in a gentle hug that feels a bit more geared for road trip than racetrack. It’s the Model S on a diet, making up in practicality what it loses in extravagance. The fact that this car still looks, drives, and feels like a Tesla—at a starting price of $35,000—shows how far the Silicon Valley automaker has come. It’s still an expensive vehicle for many of Tesla’s biggest fans, and compelling options packages will drag a lot of stretch spenders into uncomfortable territory. But at current battery prices, Tesla is setting a new standard for value in an electric car—which of course was Musk’s plan all along. The minute you approach the Model 3, you realize you’re in for a new sort of car experience. The auto’s elegant, flush door handles swivel into your palm with the light press of a thumb. The ethereal swoop of metal feels surprisingly solid. The car doesn’t have a key, or a key fob. Instead it syncs to your phone through a Bluetooth connection and will automatically unlock as you approach. The backup in case your phone dies or you need to hand it off to a valet is a thin key card that you can keep in your wallet. Swipe it on the car’s B pillar to unlock it, and place it on the center console to turn the car on. Tesla is getting better at building cars. Unlike early versions of the Model S and X, the Model 3 is built to be a daily driver, with plenty of cup holders, door pockets, and console storage. The materials of the arm rests and doors feel ready for abuse. And the stitched synthetic material used for the premium seats is different than leather, but not inferior. Starting in the 1980s with 1G, our cellular networks went through multiple evolution stages to become what we see and use today. Whenever there was a significant upgrade in the cellular technology, carriers marked the upgrade with a different generation. When ‘2G’ or the ‘second generation’ of cellular technology was launched, it marked the adoption of the digital system over the pre-existing analog system. It also added mobile data in the form of GPRS and EDGE. 1. Speed: 5G will bring a huge speed boost to our data connectivity. The theoretical max speed of 5G will be around 100 Gbps while the minimum speed will be around 10 Gbps. 2. Latency: Latency refers to the delay occurring between a user’s input and the execution of his command. In terms of data transfer it can be understood as the time it takes a packet of data to travel from one point to another. 3. Capacity: Since the 5G will be utilizing a part of the spectrum with high frequencies, its data carrying capacity will be exponentially higher. Add that to the fact that high-band spectrum is still unused; we are looking at a huge improvement in the data carrying capacity. 4. Targeted Delivery of Data: The higher frequency of the spectrum will allow 5G to use “beam forming”. A technique in which data is sent to required recipients in the form of concentrated beams. This will allow the 5G compatible antennas to direct higher data throughput to places where it is required the most. 5G! : Everything You Need To Know

One of the most interesting things about Hathway is that the plans are quarterly. So you play for three months in one go. Like Airtel, Hathway’s plans can change a lot depending on where you are. One of the more interesting plans we noticed was for around Rs 2,999 for three months. In Chennai, you can get about 150Mbps till 1000GB, after which the speeds will drop to 5Mbps. In Mumbai, you’ll get 50Mbps speeds till 100GB, afterwhich the speeds will drop to 2Mbps. In Delhi you can choose between two options for the same price. You can either get 50Mbps speeds with a FUP of 200GB and 2Mbps speeds post that, or you can get 10Mbps with no FUP.

The video chat device is aimed to be used in the living room and is tipped to feature a display measuring between 13 and 15 inches diagonally. It may sport a wide-angle camera lens, array of speakers and microphones powered by artificial intelligence for improved performance. "The large screen and smart camera technology could help far flung people feel like they’re in the same room, which aligns with Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg's mission of bringing Facebook users closer together," notes Bloomberg. The device is currently in the prototype phase is already being tested in people's homes. It is also tipped to run a version of Google's Android operating system. Facebook is also said to be developing a 360-degree camera for the device and testing a feature that would allow the primary camera to automatically scan for people and lock onto them. Apart from this video device, Facebook is also said to be working on a standalone smart speaker to compete with Amazon Echo and Google Home. The company is said to be hiring engineers from Apple to build a voice assistant similar to Siri. The voice assistant will run on both these devices and the standalone speaker could retail for as low as $100 (approximately Rs 6,500). However, people familiar with the matter believe that Facebook could abandon its smart speaker, since the segment has been popularized by Amazon. • 20. RiyadhRiyadh is the capital of Saudi Arabia and the main financial hub. It is the largest city of Saudi Arabia with an area of about 1,798 sq. km. and is situated on a desert plateau in the country’s centre. The city’s name is derived from the plural of Arabic rawdah, meaning gardens or meadows, so named for a natural fertility provided by its location at the juncture of Wadis Hanifah and Al – Batha. Few of the world’s cities have transformed as rapidly as Riyadh which grew from a small, fortified desert village in the 17th century into a modern metropolis of several million in habitants in the 20th century. The city of Riyadh is located approximately 1,950 ft (600 m) above sea level in Najd – a region largely dominated by a rocky plateau landscape in the center of the Arabian Peninsula. Riyadh’s climate is characterized by extreme heat in the summer, with average temperatures reaching above 100°F (40°C) and coolness in winter, reaching below 50°F (10°C), though there is a large difference between daytime and night time temperatures. The form and structure of the city has been reinforced by a number of large – scale construction projects undertaken in the latter half of the 20th century and in the early 21st century. A few amazing facts about Saudi Arabia:  Saudi Arabia is the 13th largest country in the world and largest in the Middle East with an area of about 83,000 sq miles (2,149,690 sq. km.) equal to size of Western Europe and ¼th the size of US.  The Saudi’s King’s official title is “Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques”. King Salman bin Abdul Aziz is the present king since January 2015.  The world’s largest tower Kingdom Tower is to be inaugurated in 2019 in Jeddah which will be at a height of 3,280 ft (1 km) and will dwarf the Burj Khalifa in Dubai by 600 ft (183 m).  Saudi Arabia is the world’s largest peninsula and the largest country without a river.  Riyadh’s camel market is one of the largest in the world and sells about 100 camels per day.  Similar to Western damage settlements, the Arab World has the tradition of diyya, or blood – money payments, which come from the Holy Quran as a more humane alternative to settling eye – for – an – eye disputes. Foreigners who plan to drive in Arab countries, such as Saudi Arabia, are encouraged to purchase to purchase coverage for potential blood – money claims as part of their regular auto insurance.

First to completion in May 2000 was the Al Faisaliah Center, designed by architect Sir Norman Foster and built by the Bin Laden Construction company on behalf of HRH Prince Bandar bin Saud bin Khaled. The tower was Riyadh’s very first skyscraper, reaching a height of 269 m (881 ft) – just taller than the UK’s Canary Wharf. Owned by the King Faisal Foundation, profits from the site are used to underwrite philanthropic activities throughout the world. Al Faisaliah, which has a square base which tapers to a lantern at the summit, boasts a 5 – star 224 – bedroom hotel, 100 apartments and 30 floors of office space. There are 44 floors in total with 44 elevators. It’s most famous for its enormous glass globe (24 m in diameter and made of 655 glass panels) near the summit. From this gallery on a clear day you can get the most fantastic views of the capital and beyond. The first 3 levels boast one of Riyadh’s most popular shopping arcades with 180 stores – including Harvey Nicholls and a selection of 25 fast food outlets on level three. Beneath the ground level plaza is an enormous underground room with the world’s largest single support column – free concrete arch ceiling. This room is used for hosting of prestigious wedding parties. The building itself is clad in anodized aluminum panels with large cantilevered sun shading devices that minimize glare and allow the use of non – reflective, energy efficient glass. And inside, there is a 79 ft wide by 265 ft high stained glass window by British artist Brian Clarke which is the largest stained glass work ever produced. Al Faisaliah Tower
  • 25. In the early hours of January 14, 1902, the garrison inside the Masmak Fortress slept as the forces of Abdul Aziz bin Abdul Rahman bin Faisal Al Saud gathered and prepared for attack. Taking the fortress by surprise, Abdul Aziz captured the fort and took control of Riyadh, his ancestral home after having lived in exile in Kuwait. From this fortress, Abdul Aziz Al Saud conquered and united the different kingdoms and provinces that make up the modern Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The clay and mud- brick fort was built around 1865 by the prince of Riyadh Abdul Rahman ibn Sulaiman ibn Dabaan under the reign of Mohammed ibn Abdullah ibn Rasheed (1289–1315 AH), the ruler of Ha’il to the north, who had wrested control of the city from the rival clan of Al Saud. It was used by King Abdul Aziz from 1902 to 1938 until a new palace was constructed. The Saudi government made a series of renovations in the 1980s as part of an effort to restore and maintain artifacts important to Saudi history. Visitors enter the fort from an open plaza and through a palm tree gate that is 12 high by about 9 ft wide. The door features an opening, called al-Khokha that is just big enough for one person to pass at a time, a defensive measure. Inside, the fort houses a collection of historical artifacts, including guns used in the assault along with a working well. Like with any important building the fort houses a small mosque for its occupants. The fort is situated near busy streets, surrounded by a bustling market or suq with shops selling everything from clothes, jewelry; gold, tailored suits, souvenirs, and a tasty treat simply called Corn in a Cup. No visit to Masmak is complete without a stroll through this wonderful market. Masmak Fort

The Riyadh Development authority is undertaking massive feats of engineering of unprecedented proportions to develop the city infrastructure and public amenities. The Red Palace was the previous residence of the King of Saudi Arabia, which after use by several government departments became the focus of an international competition to rejuvenate the building and grounds. This competition was won by Tropman & Tropman architects of Sydney, Australia with a fabulous design that incorporated a modern museum building in to the grounds that is connected by a stunning glass atrium. The head of design, Tasman Storey worked previously at Mirvac Design (HPA Architects) and brings vast experience to the international team. Tropman & Tropman architects are no stranger to working in Saudi Arabia and have a profound understanding as to the sensibilities and customs of the proud Arabic culture. A brand identity was required for the palace so they had to start with an audit of all Saudi government buildings and established an opportunity for where the brand could be positioned in the minds of the people of Riyadh and the cities tourists. The two survivors have been good friends, not knowing what else to do, agree that they had no other way but to pray God. However, to find out whose prayer was more powerful, they divided the territory between them and stay on opposite sides of the island. The first thing they prayed was food. The next morning, the first man saw a fruit – bearing tree on his side of the land, and he was able to eat its fruit. The other man’s parcel of land remained barren. After a week, the first man was lonely and he decided to pray for a wife. The next day, another ship was wrecked, and the only survivor was a woman who swam to his side of the land. On the other side of the island, there was nothing. Soon the first man prayed for house, clothes, more food. The next day, like magic, all of these were given to him. However, the second man still had nothing. Finally the first man prayed for a ship, so that he and his wife could leave the island. In the morning he found a ship docked at his side of the island. He considered the other man unworthy to receive God’s blessings since none of his prayers had been answered. As the ship was about to leave, the first man heard a voice from heaven booming, “Why are you leaving your companion on the island?” “My blessings are mine alone since I was the one who prayed for them,” the first man replied. “His prayers were all unanswered and so he does not deserve anything”. “You are mistaken!” the voice rebuked him. “He had only one prayer, which I answered. If not for that, you would not have received any of my blessings”. “Tell me,” the first man asked, “What did he pray for that I should owe him anything?” “He prayed that all your prayers be answered.” “A true friend is one who thinks you are a good egg even if you are half – cracked” Happy Friendship Day
