8. Dear Reader,
Wish you a very warm welcome.
A man who lived a long time ago believed that he
could read the future in the stars. He called
himself an Astrologer and spent his time at night
gazing at the sky. He was always busy worrying
about future and villagers often came to him,
hoping to know what their future holds. One
evening he was walking along the open road
outside the village. His eyes were fixed on the
stars. He thought he saw there that the end of the
world was at near. He lost in his thoughts about
the future. As he was looking at the stars, he kept
walking without looking down. Suddenly, he fell
into a ditch full of mud and water. He was
sinking in the muddy water, and madly trying to
claw at the slippery sides of the hole in his effort
to climb out. He was unable to crawl out and
fearing for his life, he started screaming for help.
His cries for help soon brought the villagers
running. As they pulled him out of the mud, one
of them said, “You pretend to read the future in
the stars, and yet you fail to see what is at your
feet! This may teach you to pay more attention to
what is right in front of you, and let the future
take care of itself.” “What use is it,” said another,
“to read the stars, when you can’t see what’s right
here on the earth?” We are constantly busy
thinking and worrying of our future rather than
enjoying our present. Think about it…
Thank you and all the very best!

12. Test your IQ…
If you solve this, you are a detective!
A man was found dead next to a 13 storey building. The police say it was a
suicide, but you say it was a homicide (someone killed him). To prove this, you
go to each floor on the building, open the window, and toss a penny out. You
do this to each floor until you reach the 13th floor, open the window, and toss
a penny out. How does this prove it wasn't a suicide?
What has a head, a tail, is brown, and
has no legs?
I have one, you have one. If you
remove the first letter, a bit remains.
If you remove the second, bit still
remains. After much trying, you
might be able to remove the third one
also, but it remains. It dies hard!
Feed me and I live, yet give me a
drink and I die
There were two men walking around
on a deserted island with no food or
water. One of the men got so hungry
that he killed and ate the other man.
No one discovered his secret and he
never told anyone. Who is the
murderer?
There was a plane crash every single
person died. Who survived?
Did You Know???
The human mind can maintain
complete trust once for each
person. Once broken, it’s never
the same…

21. Jagannath Temple
The Jagannath Temple in Puri is one of the 4
major pilgrimages of Hinduism, also known as
Char Dham. It is observed that the flag located at
the top of the temple dome always waves in
opposite direction of air flow. A Priest climbs over
the dome of the temple which stands as tall as 45
storey building and changes the flag every day
since 1800 years, if not done, the temple must be
shut for the next 18 years. The Sudarshan Chakra
on top of temple weighs a ton and is fixed in such
a way that is faces towards the viewer irrespect-
ive of the place it is being viewed. The Chakra
was brought all way up and installed on the
gopuram 2000 years ago. The temple is
constructed in such a way that the shadow of the
main dome of the temple cannot be observed at
any given time.
The prasadam is cooked in pots using firewood.
Exactly 7 pots are put on one top of another.
Surprisingly, the top most pot is cooked first
followed by the bottom pots in order. There is an
ocean near the temple. When you’re entering
the Simhadwaram (The main door) of the temple
you can clearly hear sound of the ocean, now
once you passed the Simhadwaram just take a
turn and walk back in the same direction you
came. You cannot hear the ocean until you come
out of the temple. The idols are changed every
year and the old idols of the deity’s are buried
on one another and it is said that they disintegrate
on their own.

24. Konark Sun Temple is the only UNESCO’s World
Heritage Site in Odisha. Built in 13th
century, a
heavy magnet was placed at the temple top and
every two stones of the temple are sandwiched by
iron plates. The idol was said to have been
floating in air due to the arrangement of
magnets. The Konark Sun Temple has two huge
lions on either side of the entrance. Each lion is
shown crushing an elephant. Beneath each
elephant lies the human body. Lion represents
pride and elephant represents money. Every day,
the sun’s rays would reach the Nata Mandir from
the coast and reflects from the diamond placed at
the center of the idol.
Konark Sun Temple
The Konark temple has 12 pair of wheels (24
wheels representing 24 hours) which are
uniquely designed and has scientific
significance. One can calculate the precise time
of the day by just looking at the shadow cast by
these 8 spokes signifying prahas (3 hour period).
King Narasimhadeva I, the great ruler of the
Ganga dynasty had built this temple, with the
help of 1200 artisans from 1243 – 1255 AD (12
years).
37. Rasgulla
Ingredients:
For chenna / paneer:
1 liter milk, full cream cow’s milk
2 tbsp lemon juice
1 cup water
For sugar syrup:
1½ cup sugar
8 cups water
Rasgulla is a syrupy dessert popular in the Indian
subcontinent and regions with South Asian
diaspora. It is made from ball shaped dumplings
of chhena (an Indian cottage cheese) and
semolina dough, cooked in light syrup made of
sugar. This is done until the syrup permeates the
dumplings. The dish originated in East India; in
the past the present-day states of Odisha and
West Bengal have variously claimed to be the
birthplace of the dish. In 2016, a committee
formed by the government of Odisha stated that
the sweet has its roots in Odisha. Rasagola, a
variation popular in Odisha, is offered to
Jagannath in the Jagannath temple, Puri on the
occasion of "Niladri Bije", the return ceremony of
the deities towards the end of Ratha Yatra inside
the temple.
