Time is like a river. You cannot touch the
same water twice, because the flow that
has passed will never pass again. Enjoy
every moment of your life.
Dear Reader,
Wish you a very warm welcome.
A man who lived a long time ago believed that he
could read the future in the stars. He called
himself an Astrologer and spent his time at night
gazing at the sky. He was always busy worrying
about future and villagers often came to him,
hoping to know what their future holds. One
evening he was walking along the open road
outside the village. His eyes were fixed on the
stars. He thought he saw there that the end of the
world was at near. He lost in his thoughts about
the future. As he was looking at the stars, he kept
walking without looking down. Suddenly, he fell
into a ditch full of mud and water. He was
sinking in the muddy water, and madly trying to
claw at the slippery sides of the hole in his effort
to climb out. He was unable to crawl out and
fearing for his life, he started screaming for help.
His cries for help soon brought the villagers
running. As they pulled him out of the mud, one
of them said, “You pretend to read the future in
the stars, and yet you fail to see what is at your
feet! This may teach you to pay more attention to
what is right in front of you, and let the future
take care of itself.” “What use is it,” said another,
“to read the stars, when you can’t see what’s right
here on the earth?” We are constantly busy
thinking and worrying of our future rather than
enjoying our present. Think about it…
Thank you and all the very best!

Test your IQ…
If you solve this, you are a detective!
A man was found dead next to a 13 storey building. The police say it was a
suicide, but you say it was a homicide (someone killed him). To prove this, you
go to each floor on the building, open the window, and toss a penny out. You
do this to each floor until you reach the 13th floor, open the window, and toss
a penny out. How does this prove it wasn't a suicide?
 What has a head, a tail, is brown, and
has no legs?
 I have one, you have one. If you
remove the first letter, a bit remains.
If you remove the second, bit still
remains. After much trying, you
might be able to remove the third one
also, but it remains. It dies hard!
 Feed me and I live, yet give me a
drink and I die
 There were two men walking around
on a deserted island with no food or
water. One of the men got so hungry
that he killed and ate the other man.
No one discovered his secret and he
never told anyone. Who is the
murderer?
 There was a plane crash every single
person died. Who survived?
Did You Know???
The human mind can maintain
complete trust once for each

the same…

Put the glass down!!!
A Professor began his class by holding up a glass with some water in
it. He held it up for all to see and asked the students “How much do
you think this glass weighs?”
“50 gm… 100 gm… 125 gm…” the students answered. “I really
don’t know unless I weigh it,” said the professor, “but, my question is:
What would happen if I held it up like this for a few minutes?”
‘Nothing’, the students said. ‘OK what would happen if I held it up
like this for an hour?’ the professor asked.
‘Your arm would begin to ache’, said one of the students.
“You’re right, now what would happen if I held it for a day?”
“Your arm could go numb; you might have severe muscle stress and
paralysis and have to go to hospital for sure!” … said another student
and all the students laughed.
“Very good! But during all this, did the weight of the glass change?”
asked the Professor. “No” was the answer. “Then what caused the arm
ache and the muscle stress?” The students were puzzled.
“What should I do now to come out of pain?” asked professor again.
“Put the glass down!” said one of the students. “Exactly!” said the
professor. Life’s problems are something like this.
Hold it for a few minutes in your head and they seem OK. Think of
them for a long time and they begin to ache. Hold it even longer and
they begin to paralyze you. You will not be able to do anything.
It’s important to think of the challenges or problems in your life, but
‘Even more important’ is to ‘Put them down’ at the end of every day
before you go to sleep.
This way, you are not stressed, you wake up every day fresh and
strong and can handle any issue, any challenge that comes you way!

Whose mistake it was?
A boy was born to a couple after eleven years of marriage. They were a loving
couple and the boy was the apple of their eyes.
One morning, when the boy was around two years old, the husband saw a
medicine bottle open.
He was late for work so he asked the wife to cap the bottle and put it in the
cupboard.
The mother preoccupied in the kitchen, totally forgot the matter.
The boy saw the bottle playfully went to it and fascinated with its color, drank it
all.
It happened to be a poisonous medicine meant for adults in small dosages.
When the child collapsed, the mother hurried him to the hospital, where he died.
© The MAGEX Weekly
The mother was stunned; she was
terrified. How would she face her
husband?
When the distraught father came
to the hospital and saw the dead
child, he looked at his wife and
uttered just four words, “I love
you darling”.
The husband’s totally unexpected
reaction is proactive behavior.
The child is dead.
He can never be brought back to
life. There is no point in finding
© The MAGEX Weekly
fault with the mother.
Besides, if only he has taken time to put the bottle away, this would not have
happened. No point in attaching blame. She had also lost her only child.
What she needed at that moment was consolation and sympathy from the husband.
That is what he gave her.
Sometimes we spend time asking who is responsible or who’s to blame, whether in a
relationship, in a job or with the people we know and miss out on the warmth in
human relationships we could receive by giving each other support. After all, not
forgiving someone we love is the easiest thing to do?
“There is no love without forgiveness, and there is no
forgiveness without love”

The ancient name of Odisha was Kalinga which
was invaded and plundered by the Mauryan
King Ashoka (The only King who gave up war).
This region is also known as “Utkal” which is
mentioned in the Indian National Anthem also.
The foundation day of Odisha is 1st
April and is
celebrated as “Utkal Divas”.
Throughout the medieval and British period
Cuttack was the capital of Odisha. The capital
was changed from Cuttack to Bhubaneshwar in
1948.
The name of state was changed from Orissa to
Odisha and the name of its language from Oriya
to Odia, in 2011 as per 113th
amendment of
Constitution.
Odisha is very ancient and the oldest rocks
(from Mayurbhanj) date back to 3 billion years.
Over 62 distinct tribal groups live in Odisha,
each one with its own culture and traditions
different from the other.
Odisha became the first state in the country to
launch special drives to register migrant
laborers working in different states.
Odisha is the highest producer of hematite ore.
Odisha has 25% of Hematite ore in India.
Bhubaneshwar, the capital of the state, has
earned the name of Temple City of India
because it is home to as many as 600 grand
temples. It is the world’s only city with such a
large number of temples.
Dhanu Yatra of Bargarh is the largest open air
theatre in the world.
Odisha became the first linguistic state in India
which was formed in 1936. Later on, many
states were created based on this formula.
Odisha is a popular travel destination and the
state observes “India Surf Festival” which
combines surfing, yoga, and nature. The festival
is being organized at Ramchandi Beach, near
Puri in Odisha.
Chilika Lake
Chilika Lake is the largest salt (brackish) water coastal lagoon in Asia and the second largest
in the world having an area of 916 sq. km. (earlier it was 1,165 sq. km).
It is the largest wintering ground for migratory birds on the Indian subcontinent. The lake is a
home to a large number of threatened species of plants and animals.
The lagoon hosts over 160 species of birds in the peak migratory season. Birds from as far as
the Caspian Sea, Lake Baikal, Aral Sea and other remote parts of Russia, Kirghiz steppes of
Mongolia, Central and Southeast Asia, Ladakh and Himalayas come here.
In 1981, Chilika Lake was designated as the first Indian wetland of International importance

Jagannath Temple
The Jagannath Temple in Puri is one of the 4
major pilgrimages of Hinduism, also known as
Char Dham. It is observed that the flag located at
the top of the temple dome always waves in
opposite direction of air flow. A Priest climbs over
the dome of the temple which stands as tall as 45
storey building and changes the flag every day
since 1800 years, if not done, the temple must be
shut for the next 18 years. The Sudarshan Chakra
on top of temple weighs a ton and is fixed in such
a way that is faces towards the viewer irrespect-
ive of the place it is being viewed. The Chakra
was brought all way up and installed on the
gopuram 2000 years ago. The temple is
constructed in such a way that the shadow of the
main dome of the temple cannot be observed at
any given time.
The prasadam is cooked in pots using firewood.
Exactly 7 pots are put on one top of another.
Surprisingly, the top most pot is cooked first
followed by the bottom pots in order. There is an
ocean near the temple. When you’re entering
the Simhadwaram (The main door) of the temple
you can clearly hear sound of the ocean, now
once you passed the Simhadwaram just take a
turn and walk back in the same direction you
came. You cannot hear the ocean until you come
out of the temple. The idols are changed every
year and the old idols of the deity’s are buried
on one another and it is said that they disintegrate
on their own.
Chandipur Beach

Hira means Diamond. India’s pride, the Hirakud
Dam built across the Mahanadi, was the first
river valley project of independent India.
Measuring over a length of 26km, it is one of the
longest dams in the world.
Measuring over a length of 26km, it is one of the
longest dams in the world. Its photo is on the

Konark Sun Temple is the only UNESCO’s World
Heritage Site in Odisha. Built in 13th
century, a
heavy magnet was placed at the temple top and
every two stones of the temple are sandwiched by
iron plates. The idol was said to have been
floating in air due to the arrangement of
magnets. The Konark Sun Temple has two huge
lions on either side of the entrance. Each lion is
shown crushing an elephant. Beneath each
elephant lies the human body. Lion represents
pride and elephant represents money. Every day,
the sun’s rays would reach the Nata Mandir from
the coast and reflects from the diamond placed at
the center of the idol.
Konark Sun Temple
The Konark temple has 12 pair of wheels (24
wheels representing 24 hours) which are
uniquely designed and has scientific
significance. One can calculate the precise time
of the day by just looking at the shadow cast by
these 8 spokes signifying prahas (3 hour period).
King Narasimhadeva I, the great ruler of the
Ganga dynasty had built this temple, with the
help of 1200 artisans from 1243 – 1255 AD (12
years).

  • 8. Dear Reader, Wish you a very warm welcome. A man who lived a long time ago believed that he could read the future in the stars. He called himself an Astrologer and spent his time at night gazing at the sky. He was always busy worrying about future and villagers often came to him, hoping to know what their future holds. One evening he was walking along the open road outside the village. His eyes were fixed on the stars. He thought he saw there that the end of the world was at near. He lost in his thoughts about the future. As he was looking at the stars, he kept walking without looking down. Suddenly, he fell into a ditch full of mud and water. He was sinking in the muddy water, and madly trying to claw at the slippery sides of the hole in his effort to climb out. He was unable to crawl out and fearing for his life, he started screaming for help. His cries for help soon brought the villagers running. As they pulled him out of the mud, one of them said, “You pretend to read the future in the stars, and yet you fail to see what is at your feet! This may teach you to pay more attention to what is right in front of you, and let the future take care of itself.” “What use is it,” said another, “to read the stars, when you can’t see what’s right here on the earth?” We are constantly busy thinking and worrying of our future rather than enjoying our present. Think about it… Thank you and all the very best! Shoaib Makki T.J. • 12. Test your IQ… If you solve this, you are a detective! A man was found dead next to a 13 storey building. The police say it was a suicide, but you say it was a homicide (someone killed him). To prove this, you go to each floor on the building, open the window, and toss a penny out. You do this to each floor until you reach the 13th floor, open the window, and toss a penny out. How does this prove it wasn't a suicide?  What has a head, a tail, is brown, and has no legs?  I have one, you have one. If you remove the first letter, a bit remains. If you remove the second, bit still remains. After much trying, you might be able to remove the third one also, but it remains. It dies hard!  Feed me and I live, yet give me a drink and I die  There were two men walking around on a deserted island with no food or water. One of the men got so hungry that he killed and ate the other man. No one discovered his secret and he never told anyone. Who is the murderer?  There was a plane crash every single person died. Who survived? Did You Know??? The human mind can maintain complete trust once for each person. Once broken, it’s never the same… Answers for last week: The President/Teapot/Watchdog/School Bus/Because they have scales/Your Shoes Mail us your answers at themagexweekly@gmail.com … Answers will be declared next week, Stay tuned!
  • 13. Put the glass down!!! A Professor began his class by holding up a glass with some water in it. He held it up for all to see and asked the students “How much do you think this glass weighs?” “50 gm… 100 gm… 125 gm…” the students answered. “I really don’t know unless I weigh it,” said the professor, “but, my question is: What would happen if I held it up like this for a few minutes?” ‘Nothing’, the students said. ‘OK what would happen if I held it up like this for an hour?’ the professor asked. ‘Your arm would begin to ache’, said one of the students. “You’re right, now what would happen if I held it for a day?” “Your arm could go numb; you might have severe muscle stress and paralysis and have to go to hospital for sure!” … said another student and all the students laughed. “Very good! But during all this, did the weight of the glass change?” asked the Professor. “No” was the answer. “Then what caused the arm ache and the muscle stress?” The students were puzzled. “What should I do now to come out of pain?” asked professor again. “Put the glass down!” said one of the students. “Exactly!” said the professor. Life’s problems are something like this. Hold it for a few minutes in your head and they seem OK. Think of them for a long time and they begin to ache. Hold it even longer and they begin to paralyze you. You will not be able to do anything. It’s important to think of the challenges or problems in your life, but ‘Even more important’ is to ‘Put them down’ at the end of every day before you go to sleep. This way, you are not stressed, you wake up every day fresh and strong and can handle any issue, any challenge that comes you way! © The MAGEX Weekly
  • 14. Did you know? 23 – feet giant Estuarine Crocodile in Odisha has been crowned the world’s largest. World’s highest electrified track (7.45m height) for running Double Stack Container DSC goods train is situated in Odisha in Jakhapura – Daitiri section. © The MAGEX Weekly

  • 16. Whose mistake it was? A boy was born to a couple after eleven years of marriage. They were a loving couple and the boy was the apple of their eyes. One morning, when the boy was around two years old, the husband saw a medicine bottle open. He was late for work so he asked the wife to cap the bottle and put it in the cupboard. The mother preoccupied in the kitchen, totally forgot the matter. The boy saw the bottle playfully went to it and fascinated with its color, drank it all. It happened to be a poisonous medicine meant for adults in small dosages. When the child collapsed, the mother hurried him to the hospital, where he died. © The MAGEX Weekly
  • 17. The mother was stunned; she was terrified. How would she face her husband? When the distraught father came to the hospital and saw the dead child, he looked at his wife and uttered just four words, “I love you darling”. The husband’s totally unexpected reaction is proactive behavior. The child is dead. He can never be brought back to life. There is no point in finding © The MAGEX Weekly fault with the mother. Besides, if only he has taken time to put the bottle away, this would not have happened. No point in attaching blame. She had also lost her only child. What she needed at that moment was consolation and sympathy from the husband. That is what he gave her. Sometimes we spend time asking who is responsible or who’s to blame, whether in a relationship, in a job or with the people we know and miss out on the warmth in human relationships we could receive by giving each other support. After all, not forgiving someone we love is the easiest thing to do? “There is no love without forgiveness, and there is no forgiveness without love”
  • 19. © The MAGEX Weekly The ancient name of Odisha was Kalinga which was invaded and plundered by the Mauryan King Ashoka (The only King who gave up war). This region is also known as “Utkal” which is mentioned in the Indian National Anthem also. The foundation day of Odisha is 1st April and is celebrated as “Utkal Divas”. Throughout the medieval and British period Cuttack was the capital of Odisha. The capital was changed from Cuttack to Bhubaneshwar in 1948. The name of state was changed from Orissa to Odisha and the name of its language from Oriya to Odia, in 2011 as per 113th amendment of Constitution. Odisha is very ancient and the oldest rocks (from Mayurbhanj) date back to 3 billion years. Over 62 distinct tribal groups live in Odisha, each one with its own culture and traditions different from the other. Odisha became the first state in the country to launch special drives to register migrant laborers working in different states. Odisha is the highest producer of hematite ore. Odisha has 25% of Hematite ore in India. Bhubaneshwar, the capital of the state, has earned the name of Temple City of India because it is home to as many as 600 grand temples. It is the world’s only city with such a large number of temples. Dhanu Yatra of Bargarh is the largest open air theatre in the world. Odisha became the first linguistic state in India which was formed in 1936. Later on, many states were created based on this formula. Odisha is a popular travel destination and the state observes “India Surf Festival” which combines surfing, yoga, and nature. The festival is being organized at Ramchandi Beach, near Puri in Odisha.

In 1981, Chilika Lake was designated as the first Indian wetland of International importance under the Ramsar Convention. © The MAGEX Weekly
  • 21. Jagannath Temple The Jagannath Temple in Puri is one of the 4 major pilgrimages of Hinduism, also known as Char Dham. It is observed that the flag located at the top of the temple dome always waves in opposite direction of air flow. A Priest climbs over the dome of the temple which stands as tall as 45 storey building and changes the flag every day since 1800 years, if not done, the temple must be shut for the next 18 years. The Sudarshan Chakra on top of temple weighs a ton and is fixed in such a way that is faces towards the viewer irrespect- ive of the place it is being viewed. The Chakra was brought all way up and installed on the gopuram 2000 years ago. The temple is constructed in such a way that the shadow of the main dome of the temple cannot be observed at any given time. The prasadam is cooked in pots using firewood. Exactly 7 pots are put on one top of another. Surprisingly, the top most pot is cooked first followed by the bottom pots in order. There is an ocean near the temple. When you’re entering the Simhadwaram (The main door) of the temple you can clearly hear sound of the ocean, now once you passed the Simhadwaram just take a turn and walk back in the same direction you came. You cannot hear the ocean until you come out of the temple. The idols are changed every year and the old idols of the deity’s are buried on one another and it is said that they disintegrate on their own.

The idol was said to have been floating in air due to the arrangement of magnets. The Konark Sun Temple has two huge lions on either side of the entrance. Each lion is shown crushing an elephant. Beneath each elephant lies the human body. Lion represents pride and elephant represents money. Every day, the sun’s rays would reach the Nata Mandir from the coast and reflects from the diamond placed at the center of the idol. Konark Sun Temple The Konark temple has 12 pair of wheels (24 wheels representing 24 hours) which are uniquely designed and has scientific significance. One can calculate the precise time of the day by just looking at the shadow cast by these 8 spokes signifying prahas (3 hour period). King Narasimhadeva I, the great ruler of the Ganga dynasty had built this temple, with the help of 1200 artisans from 1243 – 1255 AD (12 years).
