8. Dear Reader,
Do you want a fresh start for the New Year? Do
you want a clean slate? Making a fresh start often
means practicing forgiveness. Without
forgiveness, you will have more difficulty moving
on and getting the benefits from New Year’s
resolutions.
You may need to ‘mend fences’ with people close
to you by forgiving them for something that has
happened in a relationship. You may need to
apologize and to ask forgiveness for your own
actions and/or behaviors. You may also need to
forgive yourself for perceived or real short-
comings.
Self forgiveness is the hardest part of forgiveness.
Most of us find it easier to forgive others than to
forgive one’s self. The elders teach that there are
many steps to forgiveness: expressing true
remorse, making a comprehensive apology, re-
establishing relationships and moving to a new
phase of relationship.
They also believe that you don’t just forgive and
forget. The past can’t be undone. To truly forgive,
you have to remember and then be ready to re-
live the emotions of the situation. Healing takes
time, empathy and understanding.

12. Test Your IQ…
Guess, Why?
A man who lived on the top floor of a twenty story building had to go up and
down daily for work, and of course, for food and the other necessities. On most
days he could only ride the elevator to the fifteenth story, and he would have to
walk the rest of the way. When it rained, however, he could ride all the way up
to the twentieth story. Why?
Which ring is square?
No matter how much rain comes
down on it it won't get any wetter.
What is it?
You hear it speak, for it has a hard
tongue. But it cannot breathe, for it
has not a lung. What is it?
If you have me, you want to share
me. If you share me, you haven't got
me. What am I?
What is always slow to come, but
never actually happens?
There were 5 children in a room. Iris
drew a picture, Barry played video
games, Andrew played chess, and
Trina read a book. What is the fifth
child, Mindy, doing?

19. Rohtang Pass (or Rohtam Pass) is a high mountain
pass at an elevation of 3,979 m (13,054 ft) above
the sea level, located on the eastern Pir Panjal
Range of the Himalayas. The pass is traversed by
the Leh-Manali Highway. The pass is closed half a
year and each season road crews use GPS to find
the road and dig it out again. However, massive
and deadly landslides continue, giving the pass its
name, which translates to ground of corpses.
Situated about 53 km from Manali, it connects
Kullu valley with Lahaul and Spiti which in turn
provide access to Leh. It’s only open from May to
November and is so dangerous the Government
of India is building an 8.8km tunnel as an
alternative. Known for its scenic
beauty, Rohtang Pass holds strategic importance
for India.
It’s the gateway to Keylong in the
landlocked Lahaul Valley from Manali in the
state's Kullu district. If you are in this beautiful
hill station, the famous stretch of Rohtang Pass in
Manali promises a breathtaking view of the
magnificent snow-capped mountains. A must
visit for travellers, is thronged by tourists all
through summer. It is at an elevation of 3,978 m
and remains closed in winters. The best time to
visit the place is from June to October when the
pass remains open for motor vehicles although
trekkers can cross it earlier. An entry point for
Pangi, Leh Valley and Lahaul Spiti, it is known for
its unpredictable snowfalls and wind velocity.
The view of the brilliant white snow covered pass
is a visual treat in itself.

20. Solang Valley, locally known as Solang Nullah,
is renowned as the preferred location for
adventure activities in Himachal Pradesh. For
those who love the rush of adrenaline; there is
no place better than Solang in Kullu Valley to
indulge in parachuting, paragliding, skating
and zorbing. Solang Valley derives its name
from a village called Solang and Nullah means
water streams from mountains. Located 16 km
from Manali in north India, it lies on the
western bank of the Beas River. It is 8500 feet
above mean sea level. Solang is not just about
adventure activities. Its lush greenery, apple
orchards, snowcapped peaks and lakes attracts
lakhs of visitors from India and abroad every
year. A beautiful drive, scenic views of cascading
mountains and the gently flowing Beas River will
make this experience a way bit more special. A
must visit attraction on your Manali trip, Solang
Valley gives you stunning views of the snow-
capped peaks and beautiful glaciers. If you are in
the mood for adventure, indulge in some skiing,
paragliding or exciting ATB rides. If you are here
during winter, you can go for the intense 300 m
ski lift or other smaller lifts and jumps. There are
a bundle of surprises in store for kids as well.
From zorbing to horse riding, the kids are in for a
gala time. You can pack in a big picnic basket and
find the perfect picnic spot for a wonderful
evening. There are innumerable shops selling

growling stomachs. After an action packed

23. A lot of trekkers do the Bhrigu Lake trek to get to
the famous lake. While the Bhrigu Lake is
definitely worth getting to, this is only one of the
reasons for you to do this trek. It is the meadows
on the Bhrigu Lake trek that are a real treat. I am
not sure you understand why trekking on them is
such a big thing. So let me take a moment to
explain. If you want to see high altitude alpine
meadows in India, chances are that you would
have to trek for at least 2-3 days before you can
step onto one. This is because most alpine
meadows start at around 11,000 feet, when you
have just crossed the tree line. This requires 2-3
days of hard trekking to reach. That’s why most
people in India go gaga over Europe and
Switzerland though such meadows are right here
in our backyard. On most high altitude treks in
India you’ll stumble upon meadows from a thick
forest, usually of oak. The sudden change in views
is startling and beautiful. While most of these
meadows are a delight to behold, some are more
special than others. The ones on the Bhrigu lake
trek are among these. The special meadows stretch
far and wide, undulating, almost like an endless
carpet. You’ll find horses galloping and sheep
grazing. You can walk barefoot feeling the dew
under your feet. Everywhere you see it is lush
green against the deepest blue sky. But what will
take your breath away is the view. Sitting on the
grassy knolls you are surrounded by snow
peaks that stretch to the horizon. You are sitting in
your own garden in the sky.

24. Manali is the gateway to Rohtang pass beyond
which lie the twin valley of Lahaul and Spiti. In
winter the mountain slopes are snow clad and
they turn into perfect skiing slopes. This point is
one of the main attractions for tourists coming
to Manali. The Rohtang pass is 51 KM north
of Manali and it is located on Manali Keylong
Highway at an altitude of 4111 meters
(13,400ft). This pass opens for tourist from April
end to October end of the year. The permission to
travel on this highway is given by Indian army
after they clear the snow and inspect the road for
its fitness and safety for movement of person and
the vehicles. The same road connects to Leh
Ladakh (State of Jammu &
Kashmir) from Manali (state of Himachal
Pradesh). Sonapani Glacier and a small lake
(Dashahr) are located opposite and left to
Rohtang respectively. If snow show is what
interests you, while you are in Manali, it's
advisable to hire a taxi that'll take you on the
Rohtang Route to Snow Point. It is not a fixed
point and the spot closest to Manali with ample
snow is usually designated as the snow point.
Once you are here, you can indulge in fun-filled
activities like building your very own snowman,
pounding your friends with snowballs or
climbing around in snow shoes. The best time to
indulge in a snowy affair is during winters.

27. With its quaint roadside stalls and street-market
stretches, shopping is one of the most enjoyable
things to do in Manali. From beautifully-woven
shawls to local handicrafts, Manali offers
numerous unique souvenirs at relatively cheaper
prices. If you’ve had your fill of exploring the
emerald-green valleys and snow-clad peaks all
around, then head to these markets to take home
some of Manali’s bric-a-brac. Manali is a
favorite tourist destination for north Indians
wanting to get a slice of the Himalayas, and this
is why travelers from around the region head
there during the summers.
Shopping in Manali is well documented by
travelers who go there; you can get some
amazing souvenirs, and Tibetan items here.
Surrounded by astounding hills, the beauty of
Manali is not easily explained unless you
actually experience it. Tourists from
within India and abroad come here every year to
enjoy the summer months, and some even go
further up to trek the beautiful Himalayan
region. Most of the items you find here are at a
reasonable rate; however some artifacts can be
expensive, but you can always do some
bargaining.
Manali Bazaar
28. A small walk in the Manali Nature Park will
bring tourists a step closer towards nature.
Encircled by large groves of Deodar trees, the
wildlife reserve is set on the bank of river Beas
and is a pristine nature park. Don't forget to
carry binoculars on a short trip to Manali
National Park as this is the place where tourists
can spot Himachal's state bird, Manual
Pheasant. The nature park attracts a large
number of tourists from across the world. The
park can be easily distinguished from a distant
place, just because of its tall cedar and deodar
trees. The Manali Nature Park is flanked by
many snow-capped mountains.
Here, you can catch only spot only small birds
and mammals. Like the other animal reserves in
Himachal Pradesh, Manali Nature Park is a
dense land dotted with Deodar, Kail, Horse
chestnut, Walnut and Maple trees which add to
its beauty. A cluster of trees reaches the sky and
forms a dark canopy which seems like
silhouettes of mountains from a distance.
Sunrays passing through the giant trees lit up
the green pastures instantly. A cluster of trees
