6. Dear Reader,
“Be the change you want to see in the world” –
Mahatma Gandhi
Wish you a very warm welcome.
Once a woman came to Gandhiji and asked him
to please tell her son to give up eating sugar.
Gandhiji asked the woman to bring the boy back
in a week. Exactly one week later the woman
returned, and Gandhi said to the boy.
“Please give up easting sugar.” The woman
thanked Mahatma and as she turned to go, asked
him why he had not said those words a week ago.
Gandhiji replied, “Because a week ago, I had not
given up eating sugar.”

7. How much do you earn?
A man came home from work late, tired and irritated, to find his 5 – year old son waiting for him at the door.
Son: “Daddy, may I ask you a question?”
Dad: “Yeah sure, what it is?” replied the man.
Son: “Daddy, how much do you make an hour?”
Dad: “That’s none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?” the man said angrily.
Son: “I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?”
Dad: “If you must know, I make Rs. 100 an hour.”
Son: “Oh! Daddy, may I please borrow Rs. 50.”
The father was furious, “If the only reason you asked that is you can
borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then
you march yourself straight to your room. The little boy quietly went
to his room and shut the door.
The man had calmed down, and started to think: Maybe there was
something he really needed to buy with that Rs. 50 as he never asks
money very often. The man went to the door of the little boy’s room
and opened the door, “Are you asleep, son?” He asked.
“No daddy, I’m awake,” replied the boy. “I’ve been thinking, maybe I
was too hard on you earlier” said the man. Here’s the Rs. 50 you asked
for.”
The little boy sat straight up, smiling. “Oh, thank you daddy!” He
yelled. Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled
up bills. The man saw that the boy already had money, started to get
angry again. The little boy slowly counted out his money, and then
looked up at his father. “Why do you want more money if you already
have some?” the father grumbled. “Because I didn’t have enough, but
now I do,” the little boy replied.
“Daddy, I have Rs. 100 now. Can I buy an hour of your time?
Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with
you.”
The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little son, and he
begged for his forgiveness.
A reminder to all of us working hard in life. We should not let time
slip through our fingers without having spent some time with those
who really matter to us, those close to our hearts… Be it for parents
towards children or Children towards their parents.

Amarnath yatra suspended
due to heavy rains
Amarnath yatra from the twin routes
of Pahalgam and Baltal was suspended
on Friday following heavy rainfall, just
a day after the annual yatra to the holy
shrine of Amarnath began, an official
said. “The yatra has been suspended
temporarily in view of the rains that
lashed the twin routes early in the
morning,” an official of the Shri
Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) told
PTI. He said the rains have rendered
the tracks slippery at some places. “The
pilgrims headed for base camps at
Baltal and Nunwan are requested to
check the status of the yatra with the
control room or helpline set up by the
SASB before starting off,” the official
said. Braving inclement weather, over
6,000 pilgrims on Thursday paid
obeisance amid tight security.

13. Arabian Camel
Camels’ humps are not used to store water. Even though
they come from hot climates, their humps store fat and
also help the rest of their bodies to stay cooler. When
needed, the fat will be converted to food or water.
The word ‘camel’ comes from an Arabic world: gamal.
This word is literally translated to mean beauty.
They need to stay hydrated in the desert, so it’s no
surprise that camels can drink as much as 40 gallons of
water at once.
During Second World War, German tank drivers would
drive their vehicles over camel droppings, thinking it
would bring them good luck.
Arabian camels are the ones which only have one hump.
In Arabian Culture, they are so iconic that there are more
than 160 words which mean ‘camel’.
Camels are very social, even though they might seem
extremely laid back and slow. In the wild they travel with
around 30 others when looking for food.
Camels will not damage their mouths if they eat thorny
twigs and other items which might cause injury to other
animals.
In Turkey, a camel wrestling event takes place every
January.
Ever wondered why a camel’s mouth seems to be split
into two? This helps them to graze and eat their food
more effectively.
A Camel’s nostrils are amazing. They retain water vapor
which can be returned to the body when necessary, but
they can also be closed if there is too much sand or wind
blowing.
If you visit Abu Dhabi, you’ll be able to pick up a camel
milkshake – made with real camel milk which has more
Vitamin C and iron than cows’ milk.
A Camel might appear to have thick fur, but its coat
reflects the sun. This makes it ideal in the hot desert, and
the camels don’t get too hot.
They can run as fast as 40 mph (64.3738 km/hr)
Camels have 3 eyelids. Two of the eyelids have lashes and
the third eyelid comes from the corner of the eye. The
eyes are protected by a double row of long curly
eyelashes which help keep out the sand and dust. Thick
bushy eyebrows shield the eyes from desert sun.
17. This story relates every engineering student's
life. There is a girl named Mickey who is
always over enthusiastic, talkative, friendly,
short tempered and annoying some times. As
normal student she always dreamt that her
college must be like opening doors of heaven,
but after joining in college she understood the
reality is always opposite to dream zone.
During initial stage it was very tough for her
to adjust but later on she learned how to
adjust. Even though she is friendly, she could
not find her true friends. After one year she
found her true friend Mosuri, Mickey shares
everything with her. Mosuri main aim of life is
to eat ,sleep and once in a blue moon studies.
Mickey and Mosuri though they became senior
students in college behave like kids but at the
same time they know how to be professional
too. Mickey every time tortures Mosuri with
her questions which are 80%logical
20%nonsense. Mosuri always encouraged her
to do big; in fact Mosuri wanted Mickey to
make a satellite too.
Though it's funny for others but she really
meant it .As the days passed by they reached
final year, Mickey always asked Mosuri what
did she achieve within these four years?
Mosuri tried her best to answer but in vein.
Campus drive started Mickey always wanted to
get selected in any company along with
Mosuri, unfortunately it didn't happen. Mickey
was very disappointed, but congratulated
Mosuri for getting selected. They were
constantly in contact with each other after
college also. Mickey became successful
entrepreneur within few years. Soon
Convocation day has arrived that day is
unforgettable in Mickey's life, as Mosuri
answered Mickey's question what she has
achieved and she stood as a role model for
many. True friendship is very rare, once you
find it they will be your back bone till rest of
their lives. From this story we can learn that
college life gives opportunity for students to
gain experience more than knowledge, bundle
of memories and also wonderful friends. So
each and every student must utilize their
college life in appropriate way and must wait
for fruitful future.

21. Capital Gate Tower
Capital Gate is an iconic leaning skyscraper
located in Abu Dhabi adjacent to the Abu Dhabi
National Exhibition Centre.
At 160 m (520 ft) and 35 stories, it is one of the
tallest buildings in the city and leans at an
astounding 18 degrees to the west, four times
than the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
In June 2010, the Guinness Book of World
Records certified Capital Gate as the “World’s
furthest leaning man – made tower”.
It is the first building in the world to use a pre –
cambered core with a built – in lean of 350
millimeters that has been engineered to
straighten as it grows (addition of upper floors).
490 piles were driven 20 – 30 metres
underground to support the structure and
counter stresses. The piles, which were initially in
compression during construction to support the
lower floors of the building, are now in tension as
the stresses caused by the overhang have been
applied.
The vertical and horizontal cross – sections of the
tower are all unique.
There is an asymmetric shape – no two rooms are
the same. Every one of the 12,500 panes of glass
on the facade is a different size, although each
panel is triangular.
Floor plates change shape and orientation to
create the distinctive “overhang” moving from
“curved triangular” to “curved rectangular”,
while increasing in overall size and migrating
From the east to west as they progress up the
tower.
Capital Gate is one of the few buildings in the
world that use a diagrid structure; it also features
two diagrid systems, an external diagrid defining
the tower’s shape and an internal diagrid linked
to the central core by eight unique pin – jointed
structural members.
All 8,250 steed diagrid members are different
thicknesses, length and orientation.
Capital Gate houses Abu Dhabi’s first Hyatt Hotel,
the five – star Hyatt Capital Gate, as well as
approximately 15,000 square meters of office
space.
The people of Abu Dhabi feel a sense of honor in
Capital Gate. They are confident Capital Gate’s
aesthetic splendor and technical achievement
will generate admiration and discussions around
the world for years.
22. 1. Ferrari World
The largest indoor theme in the world, equal to
size of 7 football fields in ‘head to toe’ Ferrari
World, is located in Abu Dhabi – the capital of the
United Arab Emirates. Formula Rossa is the
world’s fastest roller coaster with the same G
force one would feel in driving an F1 car and
braking at maximum speed. There are 663 jelly
palms surrounding the two coasters. Each palm
produces 4 pounds of fruit. The total aluminum
used in the roof area of 200,000 sq. m. is enough
to cover 16,750 Ferraris, or if laid the roof flat
one could place 20,100 Ferrari’s side by side and
end to end. If Ferrari World Abu Dhabi was
turned upright, it would be the tallest man made
structure in the world at over 300 floors! The
Ferrari logo on the roof, the largest ever created,
measures an incredible 65 m in length and covers
an area of 3,000 sq. m. which could fit easily
7 basketball courts. The volume of concrete in
Hoover Dam could fit inside Ferrari World Abu
Dhabi. Ferrari World Abu Dhabi has the largest
space frame structure built with a total of
approximately 172,000 members and 43,100
nodes. Ferrari World Abu Dhabi needed 12,370
tons of steel to create its structure; the Eiffel
Tower only needed 7,000 tons. The gross
footprint of the plaza level is equivalent to
approximately 15 American Football fields.
100,000 cu. m. of concrete were used to pour the
slabs of Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, which is
10,000 cu. m. more than what was used for
Wembley Stadium in London. A football field
needs 8,400 sq. m. of grass coverage, to cover the
area around the roller coasters at Ferrari World
Abu Dhabi, approx. 39,000 sq. m. of ground
cover was used which equals nearly 4.5 times.
23. 2. Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi
Slated for a 2018 opening on Yas Island, the 1.65
million-square-foot Warner Bros. World Abu
Dhabi will offer 29 as-yet-unannounced
attractions across five themed lands, all featuring
Warner Bros. animated franchises, including DC
Comics, Hanna-Barbera, and Looney Tunes.
Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi will join Ferrari
World Abu Dhabi in the Yas Island development,
which also includes the Yas Waterworld water
park, a Formula 1 track, concert area, golf course,
beach, and marina. Yas Island also will be the
home of SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, which was
recently announced for a planned 2022 opening.
Miral is developing the project, in conjunction
with Warner Bros. Consumer Products and DC
Entertainment, with creative design by a US-
based design firm you've probably heard of if
you've read this site for any
length of time, but that I've not yet been cleared
to reveal. When it opens next year, Warner Bros.
World Abu Dhabi will become the sixth theme
park in the United Arab Emirates, following
Ferrari World, IMG Worlds of Adventure,
Motiongate Dubai, Bollywood Parks Dubai, and
Legoland Dubai. Dubai Parks and Resorts, which
operates Motiongate, Bollywood Parks and
Legoland, has announced Six Flags Dubai for a
2019 opening, and IMG Worlds has announced a
second gate for its resort, as well. With SeaWorld
planned for 2022, that would give the UAE nine
theme parks across three resorts (Yas Island, IMG
Worlds, and Dubai Parks and Resorts), in an area
about the same as that between Universal
Orlando and Legoland Florida.
24. 3. Sheikh Zayed Bridge
Sheikh Zayed Bridge is an arch bridge in Abu
Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Named after the
country's principal architect and former
president Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the
842-metre-long (2,762 ft) bridge is said to be the
most intricate bridge ever constructed. Its curved
design arches evoke undulating sand dunes of the
desert. In addition to its striking architecture the
bridge is notable for its spectacular lighting which
was designed by Dutchman Rogier van der Heide.
More than 200 automated lights are programmed
to weave thirteen artistic scenarios along the
length of the bridge to complement and enhance
the flow of the bridge spine. The bridge is the third
traffic route connecting the mainland to the island
of Abu Dhabi and the new main gateway over the
Maqtah channel.
The bridge was designed by architect Zaha
Hadid as the grandeur landmark for the UAE's
capital city. In addition to its striking architecture
the bridge is notable for its spectacular lighting
which was designed by Dutchman Rogier van der
Heide. More than 200 automated lights are
programmed to weave thirteen artistic scenarios
along the length of the bridge to complement and
enhance the flow of the bridge spine. The Sheikh
Zayed Bridge was officially opened on 25th
November 2010 by Sheikh Khalifa, the President
of the United Arab Emirates. It had cost more than
€300 million to build.
25. 4. Qasr al Hosn
Abu Dhabi’s symbolic birthplace, Qasr al Hosn is
the emirate’s first permanent structure, which
was home to the emirate’s ruling Al Nahyan
family. A permanent, free-to-enter exhibition at
the Qasr al Hosn Centre tells the story of Abu
Dhabi and its people through the city’s oldest
building. Fascinating oral testimonies and
historic photographs bring this important
monument to life. Contemporary Emirati voices
reflect on Abu Dhabi’s history and
transformation and Qasr al Hosn’s key role as a
vibrant symbol of Emirati heritage, culture and
tradition. Qasr al Hosn began life in the 1760s
as a coral and sea stone watchtower, with a
commanding position overlooking the sea, later
transformed into an impenetrable fort. Due to
the shells’ reflective effect, the fort’s walls would
sparkle in the sun offering a welcome coastal
navigational tool for the region’s merchants.
Mangrove was chosen to make the flooring and
roof structure due to its natural strength and
durability. During the exploration and discovery
of oil between 1939 and the 1950s, Qasr al
Hosn went through a period of expansion and
an iconic palace enclosed the initial fort. The
Father of the Nation, the late Sheikh Zayed Bin
Sultan Al Nahyan, ordered a large scale
renovation of Qasr al Hosn, transforming it from
ruler’s residence into a museum and repository
of collections relating to Abu Dhabi and the
Gulf. Now, Qasr al Hosn is going through a new
phase. Earlier this decade, it was discovered that
the white render on the fort’s walls was causing
corrosive moisture to be trapped on the original
coral stone bricks. A project is underway to
reveal the original brickwork and allow the
structure to breathe.
26. 5. Yas Island
The first Abu Dhabi Grand Prix held at the Yas
Marina Circuit had a 5:00 pm start time, the first
time in F1 history that a race was held in the
dark. The Circuit is not only equipped to hold
events at night, but the track can also be
sectioned into two tracks to run two races
simultaneously. The Yas Marina Circuit is one of
the most technologically-advanced racing
circuits in the world. It was also the most
expensive to build, with an estimated
construction cost of US$1 billion. The track is
5.55 kilometres (3.45 miles) long, with 21 turns.
The average lap time is 1 minute and 40
seconds. Top speeds can reach 317 km/hr with
average speeds of 198 km/hr.
The Circuit was designed with four main
acceleration periods including a 1173 meter
acceleration, which is the longest of any F1 track
in the world. The pit lane exits cross under the
circuit so part of the pit lane is below ground.
Drivers have over 70 garages in two pit
buildings, making it a superior circuit for
drivers. The Yas Marina Circuit can hold up to
50,000 spectators. There are four grandstands in
total, and each is covered and shaded to protect
race fans from the desert sun. This is the only
covered seating F1 circuit, which helps to make
it one of the best facilities in the world for
spectators.
29. 8. Etihad Towers
Etihad Towers is a complex of buildings with 5
towers in Abu Dhabi, the capital city of the
United Arab Emirates.
The towers are located opposite the Emirates
Palace hotel and feature offices, apartments and
a hotel.
The estimation cost for the construction is 2.5
billion dihrams.
The towers were used as a filming location for
the 2015 film Fast and Furious 7 where Vin
Diesel and Paul Walker steal a Lykan HyperSport
and drive it through 3 of the towers.
Jumeirah at Etihad Towers quality Italina linen
inventory includes 82 km of table linen and 35
km of linen Napkins including 96,000 pieces of
cutlery; 56,000 pieces of glassware; and
165,000 porcelain items.
Colleagues in the lobby lounge walk on average
8 km a day.
Quest restaurant is the highest restaurant in Abu
Dhabi and Rays Bar is also the highest bar in
Abu Dhabi.
Jumeirah at Etihad Towers has its own signature
“Coffee Spice” which was created especially for
the Abu Dhabi property by Germany’s Michelin
– starred chef Alfons Schuhbeck. It goes
especially well with the hotel’s “Caelccino”,
which is a quality cappuccino made with
camel’s milk.
One of Jumeirah at Etihad Towers’ most popular
offerings is its signature Gourmet Fashion
Cupcakes, which come in a range of decandent
Flavors, are available in the Hotel Lobby Lounge
and feature various designs of edible handbags
and the latest fashion trends.
Photographic art works of Abu Dhabi in the 50s
and 60s that are featured in Jumeirah at Etihad
Towers’ guest rooms are from His Highness
Sheikh Suroor bin Mohammed Al Nahyan’s own
private art collection and provide a local Emirati
a historically connecting touch.
Nahaam restaurant was given its name from the
local Arabic name for the professional singer
and leader on traditional Emirati pearling boats.
The Nahaan was assigned to keep the divers
entertained and was the most important sailor
after “Nokhada” or captain.
The marble featured in both the Lobby elevator
and Conference Centre elevator areas is actually
an extreme rare array of Petrified Forest from
the Seychelles.
Jumeirah at Etihad Towers sparkles like a
jewellery box with its Oculus installation in the
expansion pre – function area of the conference
centre which weighs 12 tons of handcrafted
crystal and glass and features 140 sq. m. of flat
glass, more than 250,000 crystal components
and 12,800 artistically hand – blown glass
components.
12 bespoke Czech – made chandeliers are
featured at the property featuring a total of
100,932 pieces of crystal trimmings.
33. Date Palm Tree
The Date palm tree is one among the oldest trees
in the world. The Date Palm tree was cultivated
in the 5th
century BC in Egypt and Mesopotamia.
It has been cultivated in the Middle East for more
than 10,000 years.
The Date Palm tree is found in the Middle East,
the Canary Islands, South Africa, India and
California.
The botanical name for the Date Palm Tree is
Phoenix dactylifera. It belongs to the Palm
family. The Date Palm Tree is a tall and
evergreen tree that has no branches.
The Tree grows to about 23 m in height. The
trunk of the tree is surrounded by marks of old
leaf bases.
The tree trunk ends with a crown of leaves. Each
leaf is about 5 m in length and has a strong
midrib, with narrow pinnate leaflets on either
side of the midrib.
Floral bunches are found between the tree and
the leaf base. They are long and hang down from
the top of the Palm Tree.
The date fruit is a drupe and has only one seed.
The portion surrounding the seed is soft pulpy
and is edible.
Unripe dates are green in color, as they mature
they become a reddish brown or dark brown in
color.
Dates can be classified as soft, semi – soft, dry
dates. Chewy, dry dates stay for a longer time
Without getting spoiled when compared to other
date varieties. Dates can be frozen for a long
time.
(Health advantages of dates have been
mentioned in Issue #20)
Uses of Date Palm trees:
In North Africa, Ghana and India the sap from
the Date Palm Tree is collected and used during
the conversion of sugar, alcoholic drink, and
molasses.
Date Pulp is processed into many forms such as
syrup and spreads as well as in biscuits, bread
puddings, sweets and other ddishes.
The trunk of the Date Palm Tree is used to make
poles, beams, rafters, pillars, jetties and light foot

35. Mandi
Ingredients:
1 kg Chicken , with bones
1 Onion , finely chopped
1 Tomato
5 Green Chillies
1 tablespoon Ginger garlic paste
3 Bay leaves (tej patta)
For Smoking
1 teaspoon Ghee
A large piece of charcoal
5 Cardamom (Pods /Seeds)
5 Cloves
2 inch Cinnamon Stick
1 teaspoon Whole Black Pepper Corns
1/4 cup Olive Oil
2 tablespoons Butter , softened
Salt , to taste
4 cups Basmati rice
8 cups Water
Mandi is a traditional dish from Yemen and Saudi Arabia of meat, rice, and spices. It is also eaten in
some gulf nations. It is now very popular in other areas of the Arabian Peninsula, and it is also
common in Egypt and Levant and Turkey. It is also popular among the Hadhrami people in
the Malabar region of Kerala, Bhatkal or Al Nawayah City of Karnataka, as well as Barkas and areas
around Hyderabad, India.
36. Procedure (Mandi):
To begin making the Arabian Chicken Mandi recipe, firstly we will prepare the Mandi spice
powder. Grind all the ingredients given ‘For Mandi spice powder’ in a mixer grinder to a fine
powder and set it aside. Next, blend tomato and green chillies and set it aside.
Add 2 tablespoons of melted butter and 2 tablespoons of Mandi spice powder and some salt in a
small mixing bowl. Wash and soak basmati rice for atleast 20 minutes.
Heat a large saucepan and add oil. Add finely chopped onion and sauté till translucent. Add in the
ginger paste and garlic paste and sauté till the raw smell evaporates.
Add bay leaves, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves and black pepper and mix everything well. Once it
is done, add the tomato-green chilli puree and mix well.
When the oil starts to separate, add the chicken and mix. Add 8 cups of water and 2 tablespoon of
Mandi spice powder and stir. Mix, cover and let it cook for about 15 minutes. After 15 minutes,
turn off the heat.
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees centigrade. Remove the chicken on to a baking tray and brush
with butter and spice powder mixture that we have mixed and kept aside earlier.
Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until the skin of the chicken turns to a nice golden brown colour.
Heat olive oil in a large pan and fry the rice in it stirring constantly for about 10 to 15 minutes. In
the meantime, bring the chicken stock to a boil.
Add the rice to the chicken stock. Now slide a large piece of aluminium foil on top of the saucepan
and then cover it with the lid. Cook the rice on medium low flame for about 10 minutes.
Remove the lid and check if there is any trace of water left. If water is left, then cover and cook for
another 3 to 5 minutes. Now stir the rice with a fork so that it doesn’t clog together. Take 3
tablespoons of ghee or oil in a small bowl and place it in the middle of the rice.
Heat a piece of charcoal and put it in that bowl. Immediately slide the aluminium foil and secure
with lid. Open it only at the time of serving, as it gives a nice smokey flavor to the rice. To serve,
spread rice onto a large serving tray and place a piece of baked chicken on the top.
Serve Arabian Chicken Mandi with Raw Mango raita or any other raita of your choice.

37. Mechoui
Ingredients:
1 whole bone-in leg of lamb or shoulder
4 tablespoons soft unsalted butter (use if
desired)
3 or 4 cloves garlic, pressed
2 teaspoons salt, or to taste
1 teaspoon pepper, or to taste
1 teaspoon cumin
1/2 teaspoon saffron threads, crushed
1/4 teaspoon turmeric
1 tablespoon olive oil
Salt
Cumin
In the cuisine of Northern Africa, Méchoui is a
whole sheep or a lamb spit-roasted on a
barbecue. The word comes from the Arabic
word šawa, which means "grilled, roasted". This
dish is very popular in North Africa.
In Morocco and Algeria, the term méchoui "refers
to the method of cooking a lamb or a sheep
cooked whole on the spit". In Tunisia, however, it
applies to any piece of meat or fish grilled with
embers.
Traditionally, méchoui is served with cumin and
salt, either on a plate or in a decorative serving
dish. The diners sprinkle salt and cumin to taste
on the lamb before eating.
38. Procedure (Mechoui):
Trim excess fat from the leg of lamb or shoulder, and make a dozen or more cuts deep into the meat
with the tip of a sharp knife.
Combine the butter with the garlic, salt, pepper, cumin, saffron, turmeric and olive oil. Spread the
mixture over the entire leg or shoulder of lamb, working some butter into the incisions made with
the knife.
Place the lamb in a roasting pan, and proceed with one of the roasting methods below.
Traditional Roasting Method: 3 to 4 Hours
When short on time, this method also works very well, but the meat won't be quite as tender as the
above method. The lamb will, however, have more of a crisp crust, which some Moroccans find
desirable.
Heat an oven to 475 F (240 C). Add 1/2 cup of water to the pan, and roast the lamb, uncovered, for
20 minutes.
Reduce the oven temperature to 325 F (160 C) and continue roasting the lamb, basting occasionally,
for 2 1/2 to 3 hours, or until the meat is tender, the juices run clear and the lamb has a dark, crisp
crust.
Transfer the lamb to a platter and allow it to rest for 10 minutes before serving. If desired, the juices
can be poured over and around the lamb. Serve dishes of salt and cumin on the side for dipping.
Fast Roasting Method: 1 to 2 Hours
Heat an oven to 475 F (240 C). Wrap the exposed lower leg of the lamb in foil to prevent burning.
Add 1/2 cup of water and a few tablespoons of olive oil to the pan, and roast the lamb, uncovered,
for 1 to 2 hours, basting frequently, until the lamb is well browned and the juices run clear when a
knife is inserted deep into the meat.
If the meat has browned before the juices are clear, cover the meat with a loose foil to prevent
further darkening.
Transfer the lamb to a platter and allow it to rest for at least 10 minutes before serving. If desired,
the juices can be poured over and around the lamb. Serve dishes of salt and cumin on the side for
dipping.
Plan to serve mechoui for a special family dinner or when entertaining. For a colorful presentation,
garnish the platter with an assortment of salads or roasted or grilled vegetables or make mini
brochettes by threading cubes of cured meat, cheese and olives on toothpicks and inserting them
into the roast as a garnish.

40. Oral Hygiene and General Health
In the ancient days, oral hygiene was not
considered a factor in one’s overall general
health, but today, science has proven there is a
strong link between the two.
A poor oral hygiene regimen can be a bacterial
breeding ground and when oral hygiene is
neglected or ignored it will eventually cause
periodontal disease. Bacterium associated with
periodontitis can enter the bloodstream via
bleeding gums which is what links the two
together.
Here are a few diseases directly linked to poor
oral hygiene:
Heart Disease: Bacteria in the bloodstream can
travel to the heart and lead to a heart attack.
Endocarditis – Bacteria may find its way to the
inner linings of the heart and valves which in
turn, create growth pockets of bacteria. These
pockets cause inflammation and infection of
the inner linings of the heart.
Stroke: There are a number of reasons why a
stroke may occur – one of them is the
narrowing of the artery walls and anther is
blood clots. It is believed that oral bacteria
may be a contributing factor to the arteries
narrowing as well as blood clots easily
forming because of the body’s negative
response to the bacteria in the bloodstream.
Inflammation: Inflammed gums and bleeding
may cause systemic inflammation.
Rheumatoid Arthritis: It is known that
periodontal disease will worsen the pain
already suffered by those inflicted with this
auto immune disorder.
Lung condition: Those already suffering from
COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary
Disease) and pneumonia may have their
condition worsened due to an increase of
bacteria in their lungs.
Diabetes: 95% of Adults with diabetes also
have periodontal disease and 1/3 have such
advanced disease that has lead to tooth loss.
Premature Birth: Nearly 13% of babies are
born prematurely according to the March of
Dimes due to the medical problems including
breathing issues and infections of the mother.
Always wear a smile; because your smile is a reason for many
others to smile…
41. Natural Ways to whiten your teeth
Everyone wants to have a great smile which is
why good oral hygiene is important! Having poor
oral hygiene can lead to a variety of dental and
medical problems in the future such as gum
disease, infection, bone loss, heart disease, strokes
and much more (as mentioned previous page).
Here is a list of 10 Natural Dental Hygiene steps
you can take to promote great oral Hygiene.
Proper Brushing: One of the easiest steps to do
to help your teeth keep clean. When brushing
your teeth, position the bristles at an angle of
45 degrees near the gum line. Try to brush at
least twice a day.
Flossing: Flossing gets rid of food and bacteria
that could harden into plague, which makes
your teeth, look dull and darker.
Oil Pulling: This technique is popular in
Ayurvedic medicine. Swish a tablespoon of oil
around in your mouth for up to 20 minutes to
“pull out” bacteria. A recent study found that
using coconut oil could prevent tooth decay,
but there’s no science to support it leaving a
sparkle.
Baking Soda: Studies show that brushing
products that have baking soda will work on
surface stains over time.
Apples and Pineapples: Malic acid in apples
boosts saliva to wash away acids. Toothpastes
with bromelain, a compound in pineapple,
help whiten the teeth.
Hydrogen peroxide: It’s the bleaching agent
found in most home whitening kits. It actually
changes tooth’s color. The American Dental
Association says swishing will probably
irritate your gums before it whitens your
teeth.
Avoid Tobacco: This will be a big favor to your
teeth. One, it will save you from oral cancer
and periodontal complications. Also it will
save you from the countless ill effects caused
by the agents used to mask the smell of
tobacco.
Limit Sodas, Coffee and Alcohol: Although
beverages contain a high level of
phosphorous, which is a necessary mineral for
a healthy mouth, too much phosphorous can
deplete the body’s level of calcium. This causes
dental hygiene problems such as tooth decay
and gum disease.
Calcium and Vitamins: It is better to drink
milk, fortified orange juice and to eat yoghurt,
broccoli, cheese, and other dairy products.
Copper, zinc, iodine, iron and potassium are
also required for maintaining healthy dental
hygiene.
Clean the Tongue: Clean the surface of your
tongue daily. By using a professional tongue
cleaner you remove countless bacteria that
otherwise live, particularly on the rougher top
surface of your tongue.
Life is short; Smile while you still have teeth!

47. A Quick re-cap
Akhil Mahaveer the estranged kid in his class
finds Sindhu the new comer to be his savior.
Sindhoori amidst been warned by her classmates
to be careful with Akhil as his entire family was a
madcap, learns the circumstances of Akhil and
tries to mingle with him and make friendship to
reduce his burden.
Akhil's invite:
Somehow he managed to send his grandfather
quick that afternoon and took his lunch to play-
ground where Sindhu's has been waiting for him.
"Sorry for being late. It was very tiring to send
nana off stating reasons. He's so sharp that I have
tried lots to bluff him. But at the end he wins"
with no break he stood there asking for excuse.
"I completely understand Akhil. I don't want you
to regret anymore. Please don't do that."
This reply from her was so relieving for him.
She got his lunch box and tasted his food. She
asked him to do the same.
"Akhil, your mother has a promising culinary
skill. I must commend her in person" she said.
"Then I think you must appreciate my grandma"
he replied. "Grandma? Seriously?"
"Yes. I have seen my mom cooking rarely.... like
once or twice in a week"
"Why so? Is she working?"
"Yes. A so called professional women"
"That's interesting. You're lucky that you still have
your granny with you. I lost her when I was 3"
"Well at least I have them with me. They have
been my support system. They've seen my
extremes. Infact only they have seen them"
"Why not you’re Parents?" Sindhu purposely
questioned this as she wanted to scrutinize this
even more. The information so far from him was
already known to her. She wanted to know about
his parents as the entire class blames them for his
miseries.
"Parents? For name sake. You better come to my
home one day and you will know the situation
there." he said in a low voice.
Sindhoori was actually waiting for this moment.
But she didn't express her intention.
"If so, ok. I'll definitely visit your house. Now try
fryms from my Tiffin. Even my mother cooks well"
she opened her lunch box and kept in front of
him.

48. Thirukkural translation in English
A is the first of the alphabet;
God is the primary force of the world.
What is the use of all your learning,
if you can’t surrender yourself at the feet of God?
Those who surrender themselves at feet of the one,
who resides in the flower – like hearts of all, will live long and well.
Those who surrender at the feet of the one,
who doesn’t have any wants or hates, will never have any hassles anywhere.
Fate, which impacts those in the darkness of ignorance,
will not impede those who hail the true glory of God.
Those who follow the true moral path of the one,
who has doused the desires of the five senses, will last long.
Except for those who surrender at the feet of God,
the ocean of morality, others will struggle to cross the ocean of desire.
The head that doesn’t bow to God, is similar
to the organs that don’t have the right senses.
Those who surrender at the feet of God,
will cross the great ocean of life; others won’t.
