6. Dear Reader,
Wish you a very warm welcome.
On account of 26th
issue I would like to
narrate you a small story.
A 24 year old boy seeing out from the
train’s window shouted… “Dad, look the
trees are going behind!” Dad smiled and a
young couple sitting nearby, looked at the
24 year old’s childish behavior with pity,
suddenly he again exclaimed… “Dad, look
the clouds are running with us!”
The couple couldn’t resist and said to the
old man… “Why don’t you take your son to
a good doctor?” The old man smiled and
said… “I did and we are just coming from
the hospital, my son was blind from birth,
he just got his eyes today.”
Every single person on the planet has a
story. Don’t judge people before you truly
know them! The truth might surprise you.
I wish you all the very best for your future
dreams and goals.

The Frog
A frog is at the bottom of a 30 meter well. Each day he summons enough
energy for one 3 meter leap up the well (his hind legs are exactly 3 meters up).
Exhausted, he then hangs there for the rest of the day. At night, while he is
asleep, he slips 2 meters backwards. How many days does it take him to escape
from the well?
What comes once in a minute,
twice in a moment but never in
a thousand years?
The more you take, the more you
leave behind. What are they?
What belongs to you, but others
use it more than you?
You answer though I never ask
questions. What am I?
What is so fragile that you can
break it by saying its name?
The more there is, the less you
see. What is it? Questions, What
am I?

12. A True Love Tale
A boy named Qais was born to an Arab
Chieftain, Shah Amri. Astrologers predicted that
Qais would be wandering in wilderness at the
age of 12 and would be known for the
romantic saga of his life. Shah Amri produced
various types of amulets, talisman and charms
and offered prayers for Qasis. But nothing
would change the predicted destiny. As Qais
grew up, he was sent to Damuseus for
education at the religious school.
The time for the prediction to come true had
come. Qais was enchanted by Laila at her first
sight and remained absorbed in her thoughts.
All his friends and parents tried to divert his
mind and asked to concentrate on studies, but
he wouldn’t listen.
The love of Qais had a magnetic effect upon
Laila, and the Laila – Qais love tale reached the
ears of the Najd chieftain. In order to protect
his honour, he confronted his daughter to the
four walls of his house.
With Laila out of his sight, Qais lost self –
control and he wandered in the woods of Najd
like an insane person. Laila too grew frail in the
absence of Qais. Her parents failed to prevail
upon her and she found it beyond her to
control herself.
Qais had become abnormally obsessed with the
love of Laila, so people began to call him
Majnoon – the obsessed man, and he is known
by this name till today.
Majnoon has become the symbol, the synonym,
and the living embodiment of profound love.
One day Majnoon passed without knowing the
palace of the Najd chieftain sighting and
crying. “Ah Laila, Oh Laila!” Laila was, at that
moment, talking to her father. She kept him
busy with something else and ran to the
window opening on the street Majnoon was
passing by. All of a sudden he looked up and
fell unconscious as he had a glimpse of his love
Laila. After a while, when he recovered his
consciousness, Laila consoled him, “My beloved
Qais, Keep heart for a while, and don’t be
impatient. I belong to you and I am inseparable
from you.”
Laila was consoling Majnoon but as she herself
fell unconscious and fell down from the
window with a loud thud. This made Majnoon
unconscious again. She was picked up by her
father and confined to the inner sanctum of his
palace. His men drove away Majnoon to
wilderness and left him there.
After some time Shah Amari visited the Najd
Chieftain and asked for the hand of his
daughter Laila for his son Majnoon. Laila’s
father told Shah Amari apologetically that his
son was mad and he would not marry his
daughter to him. Shah Amari beseeched him to
see Majnoon and personally find out if he was
really mad. “He is of course obsessed with his
love Laila, but he isn’t mad,” said the Shah.
13. Shah Amari then went out in search of his son.
Majnoon lay unrobbed under a tree. When the
Shah took him, he asked, “Who? Laila! My
Laila!” Shah Amari pleaded with his son that if
he is promised to behave normally in the
presence of Laila’s father, he would be married
to Laila. Majnoon agreed.
A well made – up and richly attired Majnoon
was taken to the palace of Najd chieftain who
agreed to wed his daughter to him. In the
meanwhile a dog entered the drawing room
and it was introduced by the Najd chieftain as
the pet of Laila. Majnoon immediately lifted the
dog into his arms and kissed him passionately.
Laila’s father was incensed at the scene and told
Shah Amari that his son was definitely mad,
otherwise he would never kissed the dog.
The news of the Najd chieftain going back on
his word to give his daughter in marriage to
Majnoon spread throughout the town. This
enraged another chieftain Naufeel who laid
siege of his place and arrested him. Laila’s
father pleaded with his captor, “Had you been
the father of Laila, would you have giver her to
mad boy in marriage? If yes, I will abide by
your orders”. Naufeel immediately released the
Najd chieftain. Laila was denied to her lover
who wandered in the jungles crying, “Laila! My
Laila!”
Laila was married to Bakht, son of Ameer Salim.
On the honeymoon night Bakht threw his arms
around his bride to embrace her. She slapped
Bakht on his face and said, “Majnoon alone
could be my husband, you must not touch me”.
Bakht was enraged and divorced Laila. As she
got divorce, she left for the Najd jungle in
search for her lover. She found him, and both of
them lay unconscious in passionate embrace.
Laila’s mother reached them right in time and
took unconscious Laila home on her camel’s
back. On regaining consciousness Laila became
aware of the situation. She could not bear to be
once again separated from her lover, and she
died of the shock.
The news of Laila’s death reached the ears of
Majnoon and he too died instantaneously. The
people of Najd who had earlier refused to
recognize Majnoon were shocked to hear of his
death. They went in search for his hid dead
body, discovered it and brought it to the town.
The funeral procession of the two lovers was
taken out jointly.
Laila and Majnoon had become martyrs at the
altar of customs and tradition of their society.
They could not be united in life depending on
social sanction which was denied to them but
they were united in death as it was within the
reach of their heart.
The dead bodies of Laila and Majnoon were laid
side by side in one grave and the hands which
had failed in the sacred duty of showering
flowers on the loving couple were obliged to
sprinkle dust and bury them. The lips which
had refused to bless them now opened in sigh
and sobs. But the love – saga of Laila – Majnoon
shall live forever and ever.
“Love lives forever and ever…”

eastern Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas. The
pass is traversed by the Leh-Manali Highway.
The pass is closed half a year and each season
road crews use GPS to find the road and dig it out
again. However, massive and deadly landslides
continue, giving the pass its name, which
translates to ground of corpses. Situated about 53
km from Manali, it connects Kullu valley with
Lahaul and Spiti which in turn provide access to
Leh. It’s only open from May to November and is
so dangerous the Government of India is building
an 8.8km tunnel as an alternative. Known for its
scenic beauty, Rohtang Pass holds strategic
importance for India. It’s the gateway to Keylong
in the landlocked Lahaul Valley from Manali in

for adventure activities in Himachal Pradesh.

lies on the western bank of the Beas River. It
is 8500 feet above mean sea level. Solang is
not just about adventure activities. Its lush

19. Jogini Falls is a waterfall with a stream
running down to join the river Beas in the
Kullu Valley below. It is sacred to the village
goddess Jogini & is therefore a place of female
power, known as a Shakti Peeth. One can
enjoy an energizing dip under these cascading
falls while admiring the towering snow clad
mountains all around. Below the falls there is
a small shrine and below that is a Main Shrine
(small temple). Villagers go to Jogini Devi to
make offerings & to ask for her intercession.
As it is such a peaceful, even soporific, sacred
place, villagers also go there occasionally to
sleep. Special occasions are marked by the
cooking of food & the performance of rituals.

Indian subcontinent.

20. A lot of trekkers do the Bhrigu Lake trek to get to
the famous lake. While the Bhrigu Lake is
definitely worth getting to, this is only one of the
reasons for you to do this trek. It is the meadows
on the Bhrigu Lake trek that are a real treat. I am
not sure you understand why trekking on them is
such a big thing. So let me take a moment to
explain. If you want to see high altitude alpine
meadows in India, chances are that you would
have to trek for at least 2-3 days before you can
step onto one. This is because most alpine
meadows start at around 11,000 feet, when you
have just crossed the tree line. This requires 2-3
days of hard trekking to reach. That’s why most
people in India go gaga over Europe and
Switzerland though such meadows are right here
in our backyard. On most high altitude treks in
India you’ll stumble upon meadows from a thick
forest, usually of oak. The sudden change in views
is startling and beautiful. While most of these
meadows are a delight to behold, some are more
special than others. The ones on the Bhrigu lake
trek are among these. The special meadows stretch
far and wide, undulating, almost like an endless
carpet. You’ll find horses galloping and sheep
grazing. You can walk barefoot feeling the dew
under your feet. Everywhere you see it is lush
green against the deepest blue sky. But what will
take your breath away is the view. Sitting on the
grassy knolls you are surrounded by snow
peaks that stretch to the horizon. You are sitting in
your own garden in the sky.
Bhrigu Lake
21. Manali is the gateway to Rohtang pass beyond
which lie the twin valley of Lahaul and Spiti. In
winter the mountain slopes are snow clad and
they turn into perfect skiing slopes. This point is
one of the main attractions for tourists coming
to Manali. The Rohtang pass is 51 KM north
of Manali and it is located on Manali Keylong
Highway at an altitude of 4111 meters
(13,400ft). This pass opens for tourist from
April end to October end of the year. The
permission to travel on this highway is given by
Indian army after they clear the snow and
inspect the road for its fitness and safety for
movement of person and the vehicles. The same
road connects to Leh Ladakh (State of Jammu &
Kashmir) from Manali (state of Himachal
Pradesh).
Sonapani Glacier and a small lake (Dashahr) are
located opposite and left to Rohtang
respectively. If snow show is what interests you,
while you are in Manali, it's advisable to hire a
taxi that'll take you on the Rohtang Route
to Snow Point. It is not a fixed point and the spot
closest to Manali with ample snow is usually
designated as the snow point. Once you are
here, you can indulge in fun-filled activities like
building your very own snowman, pounding
your friends with snowballs or climbing around
in snow shoes. The best time to indulge in a
snowy affair is during winters.

24. Great Himalayan National Park (GHNP) was
declared a UNESCO World Heritage on 23 June
2014. Confirmed sighting of rare and elusive
‘serow’ made in GHNP, in the month of May.
GHNP provides sanctuary for 4 globally
threatened mammals (Snow Leopard, Serow,
Himalayan Tahr, Musk Deer), 3 globally
threatened birds (Western tragopan, koklas,
cheer pheasants) and a large number o medicinal
plants. GHNP is home to 209 bird species, which
attract birdwatchers from across the globe. These
include the endangered western tragopan and 4
other pheasant species. GHNP is a part of the
Himalaya hotspot – one of Conservation
International’s 34 biodiversity hotspots. 832
plants species, representing 128 families and 427
genera, have been recorded in GHNP.
The rocks of the Great Himalayan range were
emplaced in their current locations 19 to 21
million years ago. A little over half of GHNP lies
above 4,000m. The upper part of GHNP’s forest
zone holds the world’s largest known population
of the western tragopan. GHNP’s thick forests of
3 major types – Ban, Mohru and Kharsu –
contribute to the continuity of the regional
hydrologic cycle and help maintain water quality
for tens of millions of people on the Indian plains.
The park’s high altitudes, above 3,500m, are
home to the bharal (blue sheep). 10% of the
world’s known plant species can be found in
GHNP. GHNP is home to 34 – 47 medicinal
plants categorized as threatened in Himachal
Pradesh.

25. With its quaint roadside stalls and street-market
stretches, shopping is one of the most enjoyable
things to do in Manali. From beautifully-woven
shawls to local handicrafts, Manali offers
numerous unique souvenirs at relatively cheaper
prices. If you’ve had your fill of exploring the
emerald-green valleys and snow-clad peaks all
around, then head to these markets to take home
some of Manali’s bric-a-brac. Manali is a
favorite tourist destination for north Indians
wanting to get a slice of the Himalayas, and this
is why travelers from around the region head
there during the summers.
Shopping in Manali is well documented by
travelers who go there; you can get some
amazing souvenirs, and Tibetan items here.
Surrounded by astounding hills, the beauty of
Manali is not easily explained unless you actually
experience it. Tourists from within India and
abroad come here every year to enjoy the
summer months, and some even go further up to
trek the beautiful Himalayan region. Most of the
items you find here are at a reasonable rate;
however some artifacts can be expensive, but you
can always do some bargaining.

26. A small walk in the Manali Nature Park will
bring tourists a step closer towards nature.
Encircled by large groves of Deodar trees, the
wildlife reserve is set on the bank of river Beas
and is a pristine nature park. Don't forget to
carry binoculars on a short trip to Manali
National Park as this is the place where tourists
can spot Himachal's state bird, Manual Pheasant.
The nature park attracts a large number of
tourists from across the world. The park can be
easily distinguished from a distant place, just
because of its tall cedar and deodar trees. The
Manali Nature Park is flanked by many snow-
capped mountains. If tourists think that in
Manali Nature Park they will find some wild
weird animals, then this is just a misconception.
Here, you can catch only spot only small birds
and mammals. Like the other animal reserves in
Himachal Pradesh, Manali Nature Park is a dense
land dotted with Deodar, Kail, Horse chestnut,
Walnut and Maple trees which add to its beauty.
A cluster of trees reaches the sky and forms a
dark canopy which seems like silhouettes of
mountains from a distance. Sunrays passing
through the giant trees lit up the green pastures
instantly. Like the other animal reserves in
